This was written in 1972 well before he was a big rock star. He had to tour constantly before he made it big, and his insights and emotion came from actual experience. Seger is one of the best rock singers ever and an amazing songwriter. Keep on the Seger train!
Bob used to have REALLY long hair, hence the "woman or man" comments. Thanks for reacting to this tune; I believe it is absolutely one of his best......
I’ve met Mr Seger several times. I’m nobody to him. He wouldn’t remember. Just a bartender, years ago, in a huge club he played at. I just want to say, I’ve met a lot stars. Most, maybe, were aloof. Some few were obnoxious. Mr. Seger was kind, generous, kept up with his people, seen to their needs. Even his roadies. He never boarded his bus until the work was done. Soft spoken, easy going, a gentleman. A smile for his roadies riding the mechanical bull after closing.
Your mention of the sax was very intuitive... Dark..smokey..lonely..mysterious..and even sexy... Moaning..reaching..wailing..screeching... I think all his words were wrapped up in that saxophone... Thanks for the reaction...one of my favorite artists..and at 71 I've heard my fair share... 🌿🌿🌿
It's like he's looking through a photo album of his life on the road, and he's pointing at different pictures. "Here I am on the road again", "There I am up on the stage", "There I go playing the star again", "There I go, turn the page".
Great reaction, you nailed it. Like a lot of performers and groups back when he wrote this, spent weeks and months on the road in a bus going from town to town to play. All they saw was the bus, hotel rooms and the stage and ot all just becomes a blur after a while. I've read some interviews and musicians talk about the travel and at times the only way they knew what town they were in was to look at the cover of the phone book in the hotel. A lot of people take the line "strung out" as to coming down from drug usage when actually its just you are burned out from all the travel. Being a long haired person innthe early 70's automatically made people think hippie drug addict and without facial hair people would question whether your a man or a woman. The sax does help set the mood for the song and Bob does a great job of telling the story of grinding it out.
Bob Seger is one of my absolute favorite artists. My favorite song is "Roll Me Away." Everyone who knows me, knows to shush up when Roll Me Away cones on because I crank that song up.
Told ya, some things are worth waiting for. Glad you did this tune about touring, like Jackson Browne, Stories of the road are always great tunes. Thanks again.
You can really hear the loneliness of life of a rock star on the road. It used to be a very typical cliche to say “Is that a woman or man” every time an older “establishment” person saw a man with long hair.
Bob Seger is a great rock singer, songwriter & musician known for his raspy powerful voice. He wrote & recorded songs that dealt with love, women & blue-collar themes. "Turn The Page" is my favorite song by him. Love the sax solo. He has so many great songs especially in the 70's-80's such as "Old Time Rock & Roll", "Against The Wind", "Ramblin' Gamblin' Man", "Mainstreet", "Still The Same", "Hollywood Nights", "You'll Accomp'ny Me", "Roll Me Away", "Shakedown", "We've Got Tonight" etc.
Asked about being a "Roadie" in the 70's for a few legendary Rock Bands...."It was the hardest work I ever did having the time of my life, Do it again all over in a heartbeat"
Great reaction and much better on the editing! My old lady eyes appreciate you fixing the zooming in and out stuff that I mentioned in a past reaction. Keep up the great work!
Isn’t it funny that back in the 70s if you had long hair and weren’t all crazy alpha the crazy alpha dudes called you a woman. Now you say “ok, maybe I AM a woman, actually” and the same dudes, older now, all shout “NO YOU’RE A MAN.” Lol
The atonal sax notes towards the end are different, I'll give him that. Unfortunately it's not something I want to listen to. And the song overall is boooorrrriinng.

And now Bob Seger is an icon in the music industry!
Pretty cool how they used the Live: Bullet version for the Greatest Hits. As it should be.

Not just Bob. My whole generation heard that. From our parents as well. Thanks for pointing that out to others.
@@stonehobson2487 Factoid, man! I used to have long brown hair, but alas, it is slowly disappearing, LOL! I'm74...
@@stonehobson2487heck I even got it from some fellow students in high school.
This is the live version. It is better than the studio version. Awesome song, vocals and sax.

Awesome! It's nice to hear that someone I just figured was a cool guy is, in fact, a cool guy. ❤️✌️

The late, great Alto Reed on sax. (Born Thomas Neal Cartmell). 1948-2020..

Bob is a story teller.
One of the greatest most relatable
Ahhh, Bob Seger, one of the sexiest voices ever!! I love his music!
I never get tired of hearing this and I really did like your commentary at the end. Glad you got to check this out.
Told ya, some things are worth waiting for. Glad you did this tune about touring, like Jackson Browne, Stories of the road are always great tunes. Thanks again.
Peter Buck of REM said if you wrote one they should kick you out of the union lol, for a different perspective. No one’s right, just found it funny.
METALLICA did a cover, find the OFFICIAL!
Metallica did a fine job, but can't beat the original, although the live version is better than the studio version..
@@brenthenderson3983 I agree but let's not forget the Jon English version. That's the first version of this song I heard.

CLASSIC ! ❤❤❤
My first concert in the 80’s. Paid for by change ($15). Life changing!
Bob Seeger is another great storyteller like Paul Simon and Billy Joel and Jackson Browne. Love to listen to him.
American Icon for sure!!! So many great songs. I mean like 20 radio hits plus more!!!!
So many memories his songs bring back.

Fantastic reaction and eloquent description of the lyrics...as usual! Thanks!!
a dark and indelible rock song. found on the album "live bullet" recorded at cobo hall in detroit
Asked about being a "Roadie" in the 70's for a few legendary Rock Bands...."It was the hardest work I ever did having the time of my life, Do it again all over in a heartbeat"
This is a live cut, amazing!
He is talking about having long hair at the time about the cliches
Great reaction and much better on the editing! My old lady eyes appreciate you fixing the zooming in and out stuff that I mentioned in a past reaction. Keep up the great work!
Great song, don't read into this too much...just enjoy the song for what it is !!!
Hey many of us enjoy the breakdown of the lyrics and he pays homage to the music and vocals as well. Best reactor in town IMO.
You are a deep thinker.. You really get into the lyrics and give an intelligent and heartfelt reaction. Wish there were more like you on UA-cam.
I've always said Bob Seger should be his own genre. Check out Roll Me Away next. You'll love it.
Great reaction. Seger is the BEST!!! check out Roll Me Away. Sung with power & passion!
I was blessed to have seen him n band Live Bullet in Lexington KY I was in grade school my mom n aunt took all us girls. Awesome Memories❤
You need to check out more Bob Seger. He can really reach that high raspy sound. This was one of his most mellow songs.

You'll be recommended to check out the Metallica version. Do so; you won't regret it.

Metallica did a great cover of this song
Alto Reed on sax, stage name, no relation to me.
