the original is fantastic, and was a huge hit. it is certainly worth checking out.
U can find the original on youtube
@@mrpurgefury yes. this live version is very popular with reacters. but a listen to the album track is also a MUST.

The original is similar but well worth a listen; just hear that his voice hadn't lost the power he had when almost 50 years younger. It's such a magical and haunting sounding song up there with the best.
I don't think you young people realize how powerful our music at that time was I am glad you are able to listen now
Gary was 22 years old when Procol Harum first did this song in 1967, and had a good voice then. He was 61 in this performance and was in great voice. Gary took care of the pipes as he aged. This is the best performance of this masterpiece that will ever be done. Gary may be gone now, but he will always live on through his music.
I'm not 60 yet.... and I'm beginning to realize why people are so amazed when an older person nails it like this... range.. less... volume.. less... sigh. course, I'm not near his caliber, but still, saddened by the loss of what I did have.
This one left you speechless!!!
He passed 2/22/2022 and was 22 when he wrote this.
You didn’t pause the video…says it all. It’s an epic piece of art.
Now and then, I wonder what the planet would be like, without British music and artists.....
Indeed
AN AWFUL PLACE IT WOULD HAVE BEEN AN AWFUL PLACE WITHOUT THEM!
Desolate, no doubt. Music is exactly what we all need. Now more than ever. I find it kind of ironic the music which really helped us survive the turmoil of the ‘60’s and ‘70’s has come to the surface again, because it was that good. Times may change but people are people. Epic music and this takes me back to how grand it was live. Thanks, Polo!!
Gary Brooker, the lead singer, unfortunately passed away last year. This song is originally from the 60's by this band. It's so wonderful to hear it fully fleshed out with the orchestra.
I didn't know that...How Sad , and What a Great Loss.1😪
I had somehow missed the death of Gary Brooker. Every time one of the musicians from my youth, passes, a part of me hurts. And Cancer. I know all too much about the horrors of that disease, of which I am lucky to be surviving. RIP Gary!
Keith Reid, who wrote the lyrics to the song, just passed away a week ago.
Think it was cancer that got him
I've only heard the original version. They did an amazing job with this one!
I loved how you never said a word and never interrupted the entire video. This song has caught you the same way it it did us back in 1967.
I am new to your page and will definitely be staying. I am a 77 year old and have cancer. I cannot donate because my money has to go to staying alive but I love your reactions . You actually listen to the lyrics and make intelligent comments.
Praying for you now!
I love how a older man can show young people this is how you sing
Conquistador is phenomenal by this artist. Enjoy.
The original...with no orchestra...is magic in its own right. Definitely worth a listen.
💯💯👍👍
The original just does not really compare, it is bare in comparison. This version has so much more to enjoy.
Definitely!👍
Once heard never forgotten, a masterpiece! 😉
The original in absolutely gorgeous.
Ahhh. The darkened school gym and your first slow dance with the captain of the football team. Magical
Ahhhh yes…it was
John Lennon upon hearing this on a recording in his limo had the driver ride around London for hours just listening to the song over and over. I love great poetic lyric and this song feels important and deep but, I still have no idea what it means but, I couldn’t care less.
I was 12 years old when this song released, 1967. It shook me then and continues to do so, today. I think the organ piece is one of the most beautiful pieces ever written. It never fails to give me gooseflesh! There is nothing like the sound of the Hammond Organ. The lead singer, Gary Brooker, was 22 years old when this song released and was 61 at the time of this video.
He passed away in 2022. His voice was one-of-a-kind and instantly recognizable. Rest In Peace, Gary.
R.I.P. Gary Brooker..
Words fail…. Simply outstanding! I’ve listened to this thousands of times and it never gets old. It brings shivers. Amazing
This era of music was just magical!
💯 agree
Agree and didn’t know how lucky we were to be living with good music and good radio! 😊
It can never happen again, because it has already been done.
and most of us had no idea that what we heard would stand the test of time in such a magificent way
Agree as well it was magical. Brings me back to the times of my youth. Music today will not ever compare to these and many other Artists . We had the Best Music and the Best of times. 67 here
Great song from my childhood!!! RIP Gary
Well done Polo
Good on you for not stopping the song every minute to do a commentary. It's weird how i like watching other people listening to great classics for the first time. Peace ✌️
Ok. I’m going to say it, and hope it isn’t racist. I’m an old white woman. All my favorite reaction content creators are young black folks. You kids have one thing in common. The organ plays, and the smile is always contagious.
I;m 76 this song was part of my youth, even to this day i know every word, its just awesome
You know it’s great when you just watch it straight through without comment, just letting it move you. Such a great performance.
I was feeling this song with. I love your feedback while listening to songs, but, I was with you, just letting thus one just play til the end. A whole vibe.
Fantastic performance. No autotune. No fancy costumes. Just pure talent by all involved. Love it
Thank you for not stopping. This is the first time I’ve seen this version and you’ve found a group well worth listening to. Great job ❤️
I agree. Thanks for not ruining one of the most beautiful songs ever done by pausing!!!!!!
I couldn't agree more
His voice was still so powerful. So perfect.
And , in witch age they'r created this Legend Song .
His last official Concert Performance of this glory Song .
RIP , another great human gave it's best for us ... keep it deep inside when you'r listen to
This was an anthem of my youth.
Gary Brooker is timeless. RIP GARY. You will be missed.
This is one of the most perfect songs ever written are performed. Check out the original with just the band and orchestra and you'll see what I'm talkin about. Beautiful song with a beautiful voice singing it.
Yup my era had the best music !!!!
Kinda wish we could go back and take you all there !!!!!!! 😘
Beyond goosebumps for a song I've loved for years. Orchestra is amazing
And you show it such respect
Procol Harum originally released this in 1967. The song Conquistador is also done at this concert and I think you would enjoy that also. Great band !!
Conquistador is such a great song 🎵!
I was 17 when they original came out. Have been a fan ever since. Damn I'm old😁😁😁😁😁😁
This song would be part of the soundtrack for very party you went to in '67. Every time I hear it.... flashbacks.
I was about 16 (1976) when I first heard Procol Harem's music. This was an absolutely beautiful presentation. The dream of many Bands is to play with a full orchestra, this was so lovely 🥰🙏
The first time I saw this performance on UA-cam I knew that this version was a rare piece of magic. Lightning in a bottle, and the definitive version.
I always thought Gary had one of the best vocal voices in rock and as he got older it only got better. Glad you listened to it uninterrupted, it would have broken the magic spell. For a 55 year old song, it still stands the test of time...RIP Gary, we really miss you....
An Epic song 🎵 Released in 1967 I was born in 1972 and I love this song. Gary Brooker had an amazing voice.
I was born in 59. Loved this song as a young boy growing up! Brings back great childhood memories!!!!
Same year I was born.
I love that your taste in music is so diverse. One or two genre people are so tediously uninteresting. There is so much great music to experience & absorb that it’s a shame to limit oneself. Kudos to you Polo. ♥️🕊️🙏
You epitomize the true meaning of diversity. 👏
Agreed. Nothing wrong if someone likes only one genre of music, but a lot of credit to those with a broad range of tastes. Makes them more interesting as a bonus.
The moment this song came on the radio while driving towards the New Jersey shore back in 1967 I was compelled to pull over and just listen... spellbound. It effects me almost the same way but this time, 56 years later , a life time of memories come rushing back . It's profound and only music past and present can produce these emotions .
My husband and I just had a lovely evening listing to your songs and commentary. We just went from one to another. Listening to music of our times, now heard thru new ears with you. Thank you. It was delightful. We are 70 years old.. We grew up with many of the artists.
Connie and Vince
Once in a great while, things are perfect. This is one of those moments. Also wik, the Danish Symphony is apparently amazing. Also also wik, Pole I don't think you've ever been this quiet through a song.
He never said a word
Such a beautiful song
My man was feeling it. Didn't even pause once.
One of my all time favorites, the best of the 60s. Gary is still the best, he has kept his incredible voice
I grew up in the 60s listening to this being played at home on a portable record player. An immortal time for music. It will never be repeated.
Never? oh no please 😢
@@jodyjackson5475 Never.
Absolutely gorgeous version of a beautiful song.
That is a timeless piece love it RIP
A favorite my whole life. This is the best performance in my opinion. His voice, the band, the orchestra all sound amazing. Just beautifully done
This Masterpiece was born 56 years ago and I've been privileged to have it through my lifetime!!!💕💕🎵🎼🎶🎸🥁🎹🎤🎙🎧
Me too born in 67.
1960👍
I think we have been extremely fortunate to experience so many amazing artists along with their brilliant music 🙏
. 1952 here!!! Been some magical music along the way!!!🎵🎼🎶🎤🎹🎸🥁🔥💜🤘🤘
@@marcieharreld28612-19-1951 here! High school graduation 1969.
Whiter Shade of Pale was a mega hit during the summer of love, 1967. The original song did not have the orchestra but it's a magnificent song.
How well I remember!
I was in high school when this sing came out. I still go into a trance when I hear it. I love it. Thank you for playing it. 🇨🇦 🍁
“And although my eyes were open, they might just as well been closed” ❤️
Summer of ‘67
The summer of love,I was 13 and this was everywhere, along with other fantastic songs.
What a decade that was.
Gary Brooker on vocals,superb.
Yet ANOTHER great British band.
I was 13 that summer and it was so spectacular ... Chillzzzz every time I hear this ❤
Simply one of the finest live performances every captured
Can't believe how time flies...my mum used to play this when I was little. Now she's gone, Gary's gone... least we've still got his music 😢
Great song man. RIP Gary. If you enjoyed this bro, you will need to check out "The Moody Blues - Nights in White Satin". There is an incredible version with full orchestra.
A masterpiece! Appreciated the reverence you displayed for beautiful music.
Where have all the poets gone? This is my all time fave.
That was my favourite song growing up (1966) and John Lennons favourite song❤️
I've never seen this live and with such a high production. Awesome!
Moody Blues - Nights in white satin
I remember hearing this song in 1967 when I was 15. Great song.
One of the greatest songs made... Glad you enjoyed it.
Thank you Polo, I listen to this almost every day!!!! The original is Fire also. This rendition
Is absolutely MAGICAL!! ❤️❤️
I envy seeing people enjoying this song for the first time as I Still remember my utter amazement when I first heard its as a 15 year old school boy in 1967,Since then I have followed the band and have all their music to enjoy to this day..I have been privileged to see them live 8 times (5 with orchestra) and was devastated when Gary passed away just over a year ago.
Vincent died without recognition and impoverished,
I would love to see him wrap his mind around the love we have for his work now.
A Salty Dog and Conquistador same show is a must see
Still gives me goosebumps when i hear this song. My teen years flash before me.
RIP Gary 😢
Nice introduction from Bach Orchestrial Suite #3 and this song and vocal! Such a memory from way back🤎💕
I'll never tire hearing this: beautiful.
Chills. The kind of music that moves you subconsciously..
Heard this song hundreds of times...STILL GREAT!!!
A beautiful magical masterpiece.
I always love to watch the reactions of the different viewers. In my opinion is this a piece which connects heaven and earth. There are so many viewers who do not feel this extraordinary wonderful piece of music. They stop several times in in middle and talk and talk and talk.
That shows me that they are not really able to feel the music. You was able to feel. I appreciate that.
Thanks
Thank you, POLO! That was wonderful...just wonderful. ❤
I forgot how much I liked this song. I haven’t heard it in forever. Great version.
Watching you enough I knew this song would take you on a musical journey.
Love that Oboe!
They are oboe heavy in most their compositions, that’s alright by me👍
Best Song Ever Written
Rock in peace Gary Brooker!
This song always makes me want to cry 😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢
Thanks for reminding me just how incredible humans can be when they come together. This gave my goosebumps goosebumps
I still cherish my Procol Harum lp's......one of my favourite 70 bands.❤❤❤
Saw PROCOL HAREM at SANTA MONICA CIVIC AUDITORIUM IN 1970.❤❤❤❤👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
This song is in a great film and soundtrack "THE COMMITMENTS" 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼❤
Sitting here, at My age, WATCHING YOU, WATCHING MY YOUTH...What a crazy situation, Who Would have thought this back then?! However, this is NOT about the music but about YOU. You have ALWAYS been SO respectful. Others talk & query, guess & wonder about what is happening right in front of them. YOU, However, listen. Your questions, compliments etc., come AFTER the presentation. It's why I like You SO much. Keep on. and I will keep on sharing You. ❤
K.d.lang singing Crying is another timeless experience.
I'VE HEARD THIS A 100 TIMES, IT'S STILL SO VERY BEAUTIFUL, THANK YOU POLO.....HOPE YOU ARE FEELING BETTER.....
One of the most beautiful songs EVER 🖤
I was about 10 years old growing up in Italy when this song came out and blew my mind the first time I heard it, even if I did not understand the words, did not speak English then, the music did it, especially the organ part. One has to go back in that time to understand how beautiful, new and original the sound was, it has lived in me for all these years and every time I hear it my soul soars to new heights.I suggest you listen to the original track, it will blow your mind.
BEAUTIFUL memories of my young days, people, where people got along with each other more.
🇨🇦 1967 baby !
British Rock !
This has always been my favorite song, and this is my favorite performance of it!
What a powerful voice!
I remember hearing the cover done by Annie Lennox a lot around 95 or 96. But the original is mindblowing.
BTW, Lennox has a very interesting voice too.
This was one of my
Moms favorite songs. She passed in 2022. This brings tears to my eyes
The power in Gary Brooker's voice. OMG!!
What a delicious and nuanced encounter to be out in the fresh air on the meadow in a park listening to Gary Brooker's stronger voice enhanced with the Orchestra framed by that tremendous striped tent appearing as the imagined time of King Arthur. A mystical and magical moment in time not easily forgotten.
I've watched this performance dozens of times, and it never ever fails to overwhelm me to the point of tears. I don't know how else to describe it except that it just makes me feel so much, something has to give lol. Great recommendation and wonderful reaction!
When this song was released in 1967, it was usually played as the last song of the party and we danced with our boyfriends.
Best reaction ever to one of the greatest songs ever. Those lyrics are DEEP, very deep.
New subscriber here...
You said it magical. That one word perfectly describes this performance. I’d heard and loved the original probably hundreds of time before coming across this. An already great song elevated to higher level. Thanks for sharing.
In the beginning you hear Bach or Bach type music from which this tune took its inspiration. Lovely! Procol Harum had a hit with this in the 60’s.
yes , there is a video interview where brooker describes how he wrote the music . he said , he was thinking of Bachs air on the g string and played a few notes of that and then forgot what the next notes were ,so he started to make it up as he went . he said he tried to keep it a sort of air on g string " thingy" ( his words) and on that same day or close to the same day a letter came from his writing partner Kieth with the lyrics .
Kieth said he was a fan of salvador dali and wanted to write lyrics that would express the visuals of a Dali painting , hence the rather odd but fascinating lyrics .
