I got a work editing for a big company using Filmora (got really lucky) and it worked for a few months then they started asking for more complex stuff and changed directly to AE+Premiere. I felt like Neo learning kung fu from a cartridge. That shot is so complex omg. No regrets tho, now I control the matrix

One thing I must say, is that I used filmora in the beginning. It was fun and easy but over time I started to go to Premiere pro. Glad I did. The Transition into Premiere Pro wasn't as bad as I thought, I had fun with filmora... its good to start with in my mind.

Vegas is like that first girl you fall inlove with, she was sweet and simple when i was a beginner. sure she had alot of imperfection and issues (crashing, freezing) but im still loves to edit on vegas alot.
Premier Pro (which i currently using nowaday)
However is like that one 10/10 baddie you fell in love with but turned out to be a kind of toxic relationship😅 i do wanna go back to Vegas but damnnnn

I used to use Olive Video Editor and it was a super simple free editing software that helped me learn how to edit and the transfer to Premiere Pro was very smooth since a lot of thing were similar. Sadly it's too simple and has barely any effects, but is a great way to learn how to edit on PC.

I started in 2018 with fcpx, and DAMN! People underestimate it. FCPX can do many of the things ae and premiere can do, it's just that it's more manual on pp and ae, giving you more customization. Honestly I may be biased, but I feel like FCPX deserves better, there website for best reccomened editing softwares to choose from, and they put IMOVIE HIGHER THAN FCPX. I just think FCPX deserved better.

awesome video and I agree with ur list. one software you didn't mention was avid Media composer, which the industry standard for feature film editing. We used it in film school and it was complete dogshit, main benefit was it could handle huge files without slowing down too much but the UI is so clunky that it feels like an old man complaining that the kids these days have it so easy

@@JiggypuffFridays Yeah it's pretty bad and would be totally impractical for youtube editing. Just thought i'd mention it since some poor soul may stumble upon it and actually think it's good because studios use it. They only taught us Avid in film school and refused to let us use premiere and only taught us a lil after effects and now I work in social media content and all I use are premiere and AE... thanks film school.

@@kdw6582 The interesting thing about Avid Media Composer is that it's the opposite of Premier Pro, instead of having all the new fancy and cool features. It's only had the standard tools, with the main selling point being that it's robust, stable and should never crash or run slowly.

In defence to VEGAS as someone who uses it, the problem with it crashing or preforming poorly, has nothing to do with how optimised the software is. It's mainly the result of two issues, reason one is people who are using it are running it are using low spec hardware. The second is most users don't understand that they need to change the codec to one designed for editing, like ProRes 4444, or DNxHD. I think most uses just import their assets without thinking or knowing about the effects of using the wrong codec. And that's a problem with VEGAS most of their users are armatures or hobbyists, who likely won't learn about that kind of stuff.
Also you missed Avid Media Composer, the original NLE and the one used in Hollywood and Broadcasting.

I've been using Premiere Pro for 6 years bc university had given it to use for free since I'm a Mac user now I can't go back to Vegas so I pay 12 bucks a month for hitfilm now cause
it matched my premiere pro work flow. I would use DaVinci if it wasn't for the timeline being so weird for me to understand😅. God for color grading and vfx, but hitfilm (premiere pro Jr) does okay, but just to lesser degree the premiere but just a little better than Vegas pro 17. Apple motion is my replacement for after-effects since it's a one-time purchase of 50 bucks.

Idk if you knew this but you can actually edit videos with VLC
except it's absolutely dogshit, you can do basic features like merging and cutting videos, expect the "cutting" is just recording a small part of the video, the problem is that it just refuses to record the first seconds after recording started, apparently recording is stable in the command line but that requires you to learn a lotta commands, like shi I ain't learning a command language to cut my videos 💀
You can also add some basic effects to the video, but you have to check the effects in both "preferences" and "video effects" when converting the video, while it is kinda annoying, it isn't that bad... overall it only serves for basic editing AND the recording feature is absolutely shit, it's only selling point is that it can work in computers as old as the release of DVD's and that's basically it.
