Link to the original video: • Robert Plant, Alison K...
Robert went into his collaboration with excitement, but also a fair amount of trepidation: He had never had to learn the discipline of singing consistent harmonies with another singer! He has said that he was terrified of not being able to hack it….that he couldnt do it. But imagine his utter exhilaration when he mastered it! He was elated. You should watch his interview with Charlie Rose, with Alison and T-Bone Burnett (the producer). He was positively glowing he was so happy. And I was so happy for him…..he’s had tragedies and set-backs, so seeing him so full of joy put a smile on my face.
Oh hey Sal (Evelyn here)…I NEVER expected to hear solo career Robert Plant on your channel! I have both his albums from his collaboration with Alison Krauss and I’ve seen them perform. It was a lovely evening. Of course not the excitement of Zep, whom I’ve also seen live, but sweet blend of country and folk….Americana music. Plant has had an over 40 year successful solo career, with many many different bands he’s put together and artists he’s collaborated with. This one with Krauss won several Grammy’s.
Robert Plant and Allison Krause are amazing together and have great chemistry on stage. They have alot of good songs. ❤
Just such a good song, sweetly delivered.
The whole album Raising Sand is fantastic.....do each song!
Such a simple, meditative song. It calls to mind that sinking feeling you've got when you're losing something precious but you have no fight left. Haunting and atmospheric.
Funny fact: The part where you said that it reminded you of Zeppelin? Robert wasn’t going to do that, but then Alison was like…Aw come on…PLEASE? you gotta do it as least a little! Robert was doing it totally tongue in cheek for a giggle to please Alison…..😁
Well, the music was written by Jimmy Page, so it should have a little "Zeppelinesque" feel to it.
Evelyn here: As Robert has aged and his voice deepened and lost allot of its younger range, he concentrated more on his voice’s emotive power. His later work (since 2014 or so) has such tender moments…..some melancholy ….my eyes have become misty many times listening to his last two solo albums. If you love his voice like this…man, I’ve got some suggestions for you ! 😘😁
Bought this album the very second it came out. Pure gold.
She's so much more than a country artist. She has a musical intelligence that few others have. She knows just the right approach to every song, even those she only does harmonies on.
Voice of an angel.
Robert and Jimmy wrote this song for their last collaborative effort..the album Walking Into Clarksdale which came out in 1998. Robert suggested it for his collab with Krauss and they reworked it for their album. Very successfully……album won five Grammys if I recall.
Anything Allison Krauss sings is heavenly.
I hope you'll check out their whole album. Such a great collaboration !
Alison Krauss has been one of my favorite singers for decades. About 15 years ago she wrote and sang two separate songs off of a movie. If it any time you ever get a chance, I would love to hear you listen to the song Allison sang and composed called. “ Ain True Love.” it is set in the time of the American Civil War. It has very deep meaning for me and I’m sure so many others. And for those who’ve never heard it I don’t think they will ever be the same again.
I love this entire album! Every track is well worth listening to.
In an interview Robert said when he played this version to Jimmy Page that Page's reaction was to smile ruefully and nod. Plant said that he and Page must have wrote the song for this future version.
Hey David! Thanks! You and I are on the same page! I don’t know about you, but I love Plant’s entire solo career….so many different iterations.
Hello Evelyn. Was never into Zepp but have followed Robert Plant's other work like The Honeydrippers and his work with Alison. Although to be honest it was because of Alison as I have entire library - Union Station, Cox Family, solo and with Robert. The Charlie Rose interview was great and I agree Sal should watch it.
I think I fell back in love with Robert-that voice!
If so, youve got many new albums to explore!
Robert Plant just keeps on making good music.
I got to photograph them a couple years ago. They are just awesome!
Saw them in concert together a few months ago. When he closed with when the levee breaks i sobbed 😢
Honestly, I like his collab with Alison, and their songs, but when they did their reworking of Levee, it was my favorite of the concert. It helps that Levee is in my top three Zeppelin songs.
What any amazing Duo! When I first I heard about them doing this…it blew my mind…always loved them both! 😎👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏 P.S. Allison is so beautiful!
Wow ! I'm excited to see you covering this one ! The whole album has such a groovy vibe ! Thank you !!
Gorgeous!
One of my favourite songs from one of my favourite albums seeing them live is just amazing
This is actually a shortened version of the song. There's a whole verse missing.
They are so good together. I'm going to see them later this month!
You’ll enjoy the evening…..😁✌️…as long as you like Americana style music, which I assume you do. Hope you have a GREAT evening!
Saw the concert at Red Rocks when they toured. Amazing duo!
Listened to this one all the time when it came out, I think it's better than the original by Page and Plant.
You should check out "Most High" from Walking into Clarksdale.
They are great!!! I saw them last year here in my hometown 🎤🎶🔥 The show was just amazing 🥰
This is a really solid album.
You nailed it -- excitement, rebellion and thrills from the past vs. Full blown emotion coupled with simple beauty in this new partnership. I hope you do more reviews of Robert and Allison. They did an interview with Charlie Rose about the album Raised Sand naming several songs to check out. Hope you do because I think you really get it.
Suggestion from Walking into Clarksdale: Most High.
I’m so happy someone finally reacted to this/them together. Love your reactions. Cheers!
Sal has reactions to both "Gone, gone, gone" ua-cam.com/video/WXSRia3cDoQ/v-deo.html and the performance at the 2009 Grammys with them doing "Rich Woman" + "Gone, gone, gone" ua-cam.com/video/xOHFA6a1hKQ/v-deo.html
Alison is a consummate professional, as the saying goes she could sing the phone book and sound amazing . A major fan of Zep since the 70,s so no need to mention dear Robert. Salvo go take a listen to the Walking into Clarksdale version and enjoy . And sending you a hug ..❤❤
Never thought in a million yrs I'd see these 2 grouped together. But I've really enjoyed hearing them paired up. Heck I love them both anyway. One of my faves of Allison Krause & Union Station tunes is "When U Say Nothing At All". Maybe U can react to that one. Dont think you've done that one yet. Thnx Salvo 😊
This album is wonderful
YAY yep i member ya **Fallin In Luv** with them like pretty much EVERYone else who has ever listened to **MyBelovedOtherWorldlyMagicalGeniusLedZeppelin** & Aww what a **Fantastical Reaction** to this song! & Yep i thought the exact same thing as YOU with those call outs ad libs or whatever they are called heh totally THE **Led Zeppelin** **Robert Plant** wonderful! **RockON!!!**
❤❤❤Robert ❤❤❤
That was amazing.
Walking Into Clarksdale is to me the most Zeppelin like song on that album.
I'm glad you enjoyed it. Would love to see your reaction to the entire album.
Great album! Every song is amazing. I hesitated buying it when it first came out. I loved Robert Plant and Alison Kraus but could not imagine hearing them sing together. So glad I decided to buy it. Magnificent blending of voices.
Alison Krauss by herself is wonderful to watch and listen to. I'd recommend any of the live concert footage from when she was with Union Station.
🇬🇧 Wow, this is really special. RP's voice is immaculate, and blends very nicely with AK's. 🎼🎶
Edit... Great reaction Sal 👍 🇬🇧🇺🇲💕
Great sound!
Watch them cover 'Black Dog' (Led Zeppelin) live backed by T Bone Burnett. WOW.
Agree…a couple of good PBS specials were done live. I think they are on UA-cam.
Did this first come out as a Page/Plant single in the 90s? I seem to remember it on the radio for a moment. Okay. He mentions it in the video.
You are correct and imo, it sucked. Especially in comparison to this version. I remember buying the album for this song after hearing this version and I was sadly disappointed. But to each their own. Im just glad we got this, from it.🍻
@@miked2445I never thought I could dislike anything Page and Plant together…but, with the Exception of Most High, I didn’t like a single song on that album. And the version of Letter on that album, imparted to this one? No comparison.
check out "most high" and the orig version of "please read the letter" on walking into clarksdale
Their second album Raising the Roof ids just as good. In fact, I heard the second one before the first, so I know it better.
There's a great slow version of the Everly Brothers' The Price of Love (everyone's recorded that song), Trouble With My Lover, Can't Let Go. My favourite is Somebody Was Watching Over Me, the album closer. Excellent stuff.
Check out "May Queen" by Robert, you won't be disappointed! Great reaction to this beautiful song.
You should listen to the whole version, this is a shortened radio edit, I believe.
I love this version, but the original is my favorite. Another of my favs off Walking into Clarksdale: Blue Train
I don't think you've done "When You Say Nothing at All Yet" by Krauss or her duet with Brad Paisley, "Whiskey Lullaby." Both are great songs.
Robert Plant said in their interview with Charlie Rose that, once he and Alison had recorded this song, he sent their version to Jimmy Page. Page listened, and as I recall, Robert said he laughed rather ruefully…This was obviously a much better version and the arrangement fit the song perfectly.
You HAVE TO listen to song to the siren by Robert Plant
“Catfish John” With the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band and the Circle 3 Album. Circle 2 is still my favorite though! ua-cam.com/video/0GfYV3db0aM/v-deo.htmlsi=s1uBRWEpqsnR2XBs
I never would have put these 2 artists together but am amazed at the result. If you haven't listened to Alison Krauss & Union Station perform "Let Me Touch You For A While" I would highly recommend it. (ua-cam.com/video/gScUOqFxDSU/v-deo.html)
Robert Plant had been asked to play at a tribute for the musician Lead Belly and had called up Allison Krauss in hopes for her to accompany him with her fiddle. Afterwards it took several years for them to work on the album with the help of producer T Bone Burnett. For more information on this there is a Charlie Rose interview with all 3 of them on his PBS show. ua-cam.com/video/nB4yD88fxTo/v-deo.html
Even though I was in High School in the late 70s, Led Zeppelin was not one of my favorites. I didn't really start listening to Robert until his solo career and The Honeydrippers album. Raising Sand was the "hidden gem" of 2007. First time listening to it and I was enthralled.
An odd couple that works
It tells too little of the story, in my opinion.
He has a beautiful voice.
She, of course, does.
I agree. How many times are they going to sing "Please read the letter that I wrote"? What letter?
Hey David! Thanks! You and I are on the same page! I don’t know about you, but I love Plant’s entire solo career….so many different iterations.
