    I also have a Dyson V10 for more than 8 months. Totally satisfie. No need for an extra battery. With a complete load, I do my entire house (3 storeys). It's so easy to use, that we almost never use our central vacuum or vacuum cleaner with power cord. Highly recommended.

      Yeah, I made this video because YT was polluted with utter rubbish. No one was saying what needed to be said, they'd all clearly been gifted one for free, and none of them seemed to have the slightest clue about what was important. Nothing worth respecting about much of the content out there. So as the old saying goes, if you want something doing right, do it yourself.

    I like how you point out your dislikes. I just got this vacuum and love it. But the one annoying thing is the "accidental" hitting of the trigger. I wish they added like a main cut off switch. But other than that, I'm really liking this vacuum cleaner.

    • @VacuumFacts
      @VacuumFacts  4 роки тому +1

      There are good reasons why they don't (discussed in the main V10 and V11 reviews). You can easily avoid accidentally hitting the trigger but putting your finger to the side as I showed in the V11 review at about 12:08 in ua-cam.com/video/Wk-1d8T0mmY/v-deo.html.

    I just bought one 2 months ago & I absolutely LOVE IT!! I am a "Cordless" fanatic with anything & everything that normally calls for corded use. Especially my power tools, but even they have moved up to corded power in jobs performance. @@VacuumFacts You will always have the trolling bastards. They can piss all off!! Most who complain don't even own one!! They can't afford it or just don't want to pay up for a "Premium" vacuum. I purchased a Dyson DC65 many years ago & what a difference that made from an upgrade of a Hoover POS I owned previously.
      I still have the DC65 stored away, but I may donate it to charity.
      Been watching Dyson's cordless line & every generation getting better than the rest, but I was slightly turned off due to the very small bin, short run times on & lower suction on the earlier models. I almost bought the V8, but it was not a "Priority" for me, but when the V10' came out, the reviews that I watched were well worth the price & the specs were much more attractive to me. Also the "Cordless" sold me on this. So I got a great deal on mine & again, I love it!! The emptying of the bin is so nice & much more sanitary than any vacuum I have ever used.
      Yes I am excited over a very nice vacuum!!

    • @VacuumFacts
      @VacuumFacts  5 років тому

      Price is definitely a factor. Not everyone can afford one unfortunately. I only just could. I do have sympathy for those who couldn't. I'm sure if they were gifted one they'd eventually like it. Next generation of cordless I predict will introduce a new form of battery technology that will mark a shift for consumer products. Solid state battery which will charge much faster and hold much more charge. Around early 2020.

    Very good 6 month follow-up review. I have the V7, and find it excellent with it being very occasionally used on my sisal carpet; so, I’d like to own the V10. However, as we had discussed, the leading carpet manufacturer websites will tell you that motorised brush roll heads should not be used on loop pile carpets, such as berber and sisal. The V series of vacuum cleaners do not come with a suction-only head. Dave, Australia

    I completely agree about the die hard old fashioned upright vacuum people who hate Dyson just because it's Dyson. I was getting sick of my bulky upright and googled Dyson V10 reviews, on the vacuum sub of Reddit almost everyone said all Dysons are absolute junk and to never buy them. Well I decided to buy one anyway and it's life changing, I actually find it fun to vacuum now and it's crazy to see what it picks up from the carpet compared to my old vacuum. I'm glad I didn't listen to the naysayers because now the carpet in my apartment has never been cleaner along with the upholstery. I understand there are the occasional people who get duds that stop working after a short time but that's the case with pretty much every vacuum out there.

    • @VacuumFacts
      @VacuumFacts  8 днів тому +1

      What's really important is to contrast what was said by those people and actual reality. It's important to identify the properties and behaviour of those who were naysayers-namely, a lack of credible evidence-and forever blacklist anyone who shows similar behaviour. This entire channel is dedicated to countering the disgusting behaviour of people like that, in this case, the rabid 'vacuum enthusiast' community, who have been nothing short of disgusting here. Their general behaviour is consistent with the undereducated who show right-leaning and racist tendencies based on the vile and disgusting comments I've had over the years. Identify people who behave like that and ensure their influence is reduced to zero.
      On the technology side, the V10 remains better than any copycat clone I've tested, which is astonishing. A lot of progress has been made since the V10 too, and the next generation of their cordless looks quite radically different.

    I´ve just ordered this after seeing only positive reviews. However, they should provide an extra battery that could sit in the charge dock so if I do a massive, two-hour cleaning, it would simplify things.

    • @VacuumFacts
      @VacuumFacts  5 років тому

      I guess. But no one does massive two hour cleans. Good and modern vacuuming practice that's much faster and less tiring is to do a couple of rooms a time. Bite-sized, easier, practical. This way the battery never runs out, no matter how big your house is. It's so much easier now with this thing and tiring mega weekly cleans just don't happen anymore. This toy is quite the revolution.

    So far so good with this vacuum. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkx8ISPQRRAfpAaX4msGjyodObTBnlj4T5g I was a little concerned to find it seems to be all plastic, but the reviews were good, so I'm hoping for the best. Very easy to assemble Recommened, and only attachments I've used so far work well, and are easy to use. Doing a good job on the new carpet in my bedrooms and stairs. Works well on the hardwood on my main floor too. Reasonable weight and cord length. I already knew from an earlier review that it wouldn't fit under furniture, but I can use my Eufy for that, so no problem - the high traffic areas that need a stronger suction was really what I bought this for. If it continues as it's started, it will be a good buy and well worth the money. I have had two Shark Rocket stick vacs in the past that are super easy to use, but the motors just don't last well, even with scrupulous cleaning of the filters. I'm hoping for better with this Bissell.

    • @VacuumFacts
      @VacuumFacts  Рік тому +1

      If your comment was suggesting its performance is low, the data shows this is not true. Its cleaning capability is comparable to a mains machine. The subsequent V11, V15, and Gen5Detect models improved on this and have now achieved better performance than mains machines. It's worth reflecting on why you peddled falsehoods when facts were available.

    I just bought a V10. My advice, Just buy it. This thing SUCKS, it will be pulling things out of your carpet you didn't even think existed. I've used carpet cleaners that don't even suck this hard, The V10 quite literally suctions to your carpet. Battery Life could be a tad better @ Max, but, still a great Vaccum. The quality is great too, Over-all, I would give it a 9.5/10. .5 off due to the fact you can't interchange batteries, so if you have a larger carpet area to clean, it might take a bit longer, but over-all still an amazing unit.
    Is it expensive? Yes, but, my saying is, buy it nice, or buy it twice. I've spent thousands on Vacuums over the years that constantly broke, and NONE of them have cleaned my carpets this good.

    • @VacuumFacts
      @VacuumFacts  5 років тому

      Max mode is intended to clean spot messes where initial dirt concentrations are high. This cleans faster, but not better over time. Normal soiling levels are most efficiently addressed on mode 1, with heavy messes on mode 2. Max is just for a knocked-over plant pot or something. You get at least 30 minutes cleaning efficiently. You also don't add to battery pollution with the need for a second battery like cheap knock-off brands.

    Great summary Johnny. I purchased a V10 Absolute (one from the top variation) and we have been thrilled with it. I used to really dislike emptying my V6 unit but his one is so fast and easy in comparison. We run on "low" mode most of the time with "medium" mode on recycled indoor/outdoor tough rugs and the fluffy head as there is no pile to speak of. Works wonderfully whereas the V6 could never really get everything before, the cushiony velour fluffy head has no issues grabbing even the smallest pieces of dirt. One previous let-down with Dyson battery based units was picking up larger chunks of waste. With two dogs and a cat in house, there is always dry kibble on the floor that also embeds into the recycled carpets tightly. So for really tough jobs I used the motor head to loose and the fluffy head to grab and it's done. What took 5 minutes using a central vac with motor head now takes seconds. The biggest advantage to handheld Dyson units is the fact I no longer postpone quick cleanups til later...just grab and go. With messes gathering up previously, a weekly cleanup was a large chore, and now spot cleaning really makes the big chores smaller. In terms of battery use, I have run out of power only twice as I forgot to reduce power from Max to medium/low. Non Dyson folks may not get the main point of Dyson's advantage as they are use to brute force cleaning only. Dyson loves to design a system with max airflow created from an almost sealed floor to vacuum connection. This seal allows the spinning motor head to literally vibrate dirt and dust from carpets using less suction than a traditional vacuum. With a traditional vacuum, the majority of suction power is lost at the head to floor connection the seal is very weak. So the manufacturer compensates by increasing the motor, thus adding suction, then loses it again ass as filters and bags again restrict airflow. Dyson's previous "weakness" was picking up items like dog kibble, cereal and the occasional smashed flower pot dirt as the tight seal prevent the larger particles from entering the head...but with the V10's adjustable opening on the motor head and the simply amazing fluffy head this issue simple vanishes. There's little my V10 cannot do easier and quicker than corded systems and my central vac now.

    • @VacuumFacts
      @VacuumFacts  6 років тому

      It's interesting reading the experiences of real-world users that aren't 'vacuum enthusiasts' (aka rabid fanboys). Your opinions perfectly coincide with much of the content on my channel, including your comments on central vacs (ua-cam.com/video/80hepoNEZhM/v-deo.html ). The instant-clean grab-and-go approach is vastly superior to the old mains model of postpone until you have to do it. And bite-sizing to avoid a weekly chore mega-clean is much easier. Try telling this to the 'enthusiasts' and they'll bite your head off because you're not kissing the 10 kg Kirby's solid steel soleplate. And I agree, there's little the V10 can't do easier and quicker than a mains machine, and to the same performance level.

    The battery information is incorrect....ALL Li-ion batteries have a life expectancy of around 400-500 discharge/charge cycles. As the cell degrades with use/age the internal resistance increases and hence its capacity.

    • @VacuumFacts
      @VacuumFacts  5 років тому +1

      No it's correct; there's just far more too it than you realise. Such as how it's used in the real-world. The trigger and how that drains the battery in use is the key

      @@VacuumFacts .....Listen.....I have been using 18650 hi drain li-ion batteries for over 10 years, as a hobbyist and one off product manufacturing. I have used LG, Sanyo, Sony and Samsung, I copletely understand their principles and capabilities.....and I am correct! It doesn't matter if you are talking about a Nissan Leaf, a Dyson or a mobile phone, the technology is the same. A Dyson cell pack is only good for 400-500 charge/discharge cycles!
      The trigger does not drain the cells, it is the motor and circuitry that drains the cells...which has no effect on the charge/discharge cycle capability!

    • @VacuumFacts
      @VacuumFacts  5 років тому +1

      It is true that the number of charge-discharge cycles is determined by the chemistry, but how the batteries are used influences such rates. Battery aging and degradation is a function of other parameters too, such as temperature. Temperature is reduced with the frequent pausing and bite-sized operation of a trigger-based system. Dyson have shown formally in their laboratories that 80% of original maximum charge is retained after 15 years of equivalent usage. This is in contrast to 5 years for competitors. There may be other factors at play too, but it's far more complex than you've acknowledged (or evidenced). You can go and read the informal and unmarketed claims by Dyson in various web pages. Ultimately battery technology will be substantially different in less than 5 years anyway. Presumably your 10 years of 'experience' has made you privy to the complex physics and chemistries being developed? @@keithbaker3405

The physics and chemistry of Li-ion cells are not complex at all and it has not changed much in 15 years. Looking forward, graphene cell technology will be the next step....higher amperage drain and super fast charge times (flat to fully charged within 15 mins) but we wont see this technology for at least 10 years. Until then we will have to keep listening to false marketing claims!

I got mine at Bed bath and beyond while it was on sale for $100 off sticker price, plus 20% off Bed Bath and Beyond In store Coupon. It was the cheapest possible offer. Don't be fooled by the Amazon convenience.
    Edit: To add further, not only does this vacuum make cleaning a synch... my wife and I playfully fight to clean with it. Because it performs so well and it is so easy to maneuver, it turned vacuuming our 2400 sq/ft home plus 1000 sq/ft basement carpet from a 2 and a half hour arduous labor with few other brand corded machines to a 45 minute love affair and it collects much MUCH more than any other vacuum we tried! My wife initially thought I never emptied the container. She couldn't believe it at first.

      Well, the power consumed by the V11 I estimate to be 88W (in low). But I think what you're looking for is relative performance in low mode. I didn't quantify it for the V10, but the V11 isn't too dissimilar and is shown in my V11 review video ua-cam.com/video/Wk-1d8T0mmY/v-deo.html. Low mode is designed for very long cleaning sessions or above-floor cleaning (e.g. crevice tool), but most people will use normal mode and clean in an easier, bite-sized way rather than a whole house at once tiring mega clean.

The cordless formfactor allows freedom to bitesize cleaning andis much more convenient. Many people do now do this as a result of this technology. It's the cheap cordless knockoffs which sacrifice performance to get longer run times on their smaller batteries (to keep weight down because of their large, heavy, inefficient motors) that need multiple batteries as standard. The Dyson Outsize is specifically designed for gigantic mansion houses and does come with a second battery. Furthermore, Dyson are about to release the first new type of battery technology soon (they are apparently already in production), which will increase run times 2-4 times, and this will only improve over time as new battery chemistries being researched leave the lab. You are simply out of date, diminish people who have got with the times, and are flat out wrong when it comes to Dyson products at least.

    So it’s more about how dyson optimizes there cleaners! From what I’ve learned you mentioned that suction and cfm is not relevant. It’s all about how the manufacturer designs their vacuum to perform at an optimal level! I know there’s been a lot of hatred on your videos, but I just want to know what’s right. I own a central vacuum, dyson animal 2, and the V11. My house is mainly hard floors and the V11 is amazing for general cleaning. I’ve also never had to worry about the battery life. But hey, I also love the central vacuum. I think both are great.

    • @VacuumFacts
      @VacuumFacts  4 роки тому +2

      There are many videos showing a lack of understanding of suction, open hose airflow, and carpet-pile airflow, and people watch them and come away with the same faulty understanding. Some of the most misleading channels measure airflow at the open hose and simply assume the values they measure remain exactly the same through a carpet pile. That’s not true and airflow drops like a stone through pile relative to the open hose. (It’s actually the air airspeed through the pile which is important.) High suction is needed to maintain sufficient airspeed through the resistive pile. But, if suction is too high, you can get head clamping on some carpet types when enough air can’t get through, making it hard to push. This can also cause the brush bar to shutoff if it’s at risk of damaging the carpet. So, it's a balancing act to maximise pile airspeed for a given carpet type whilst avoiding clamping too much. The Dyson cordless have variable suction and head settings to help with this, depending on the floor type. Some carpet piles offer way more resistance to airflow than others, reducing the maximum airflow you can get through it and thus airspeed. Often thicker piles need more suction to increase airspeed through them, but some looser, thin-tassel shaggy carpets or rugs need lower suction to avoid clamping or brush bar damage. For example, this guy demonstrates this with the V11 but comes to completely the wrong conclusion. ua-cam.com/video/s2GBi_wuATs/v-deo.html None of the crude ‘tests’ carefully measure cleaning performance in a robust, statistical way to confirm anything he says, so it’s all very misleading for viewers. It’s important that a cleaner utilises the pile airflow it can generate through a given carpet type to maximise cleaning performance. This is where the cleaner head design becomes important. In my videos, I’ve explained how many features on modern Dyson heads (that many others then copy) allow maximum cleaning performance, even deep down in thicker piles, and even in the lower suction mode on carpets where clamping would otherwise occur. Once you’ve optimised the suction setting to avoid clamping and remain practical, thereby maximising airspeed through a given carpet pile, that airflow resource should then being maximally utilised by a good head design to extract the most dirt possible. This means pile needs to be separated and mechanically agitated. Many other cleaners shown in the above video have suction leaks at the head, so it appears they’re working better and drawing more airflow through the pile, but most of it is bypassing the carpet and doing no cleaning. But this isn’t shown in the video because no good measurements are made. Even if there’s similar airflow through the pile, it may not be being utilised as effectively or removing as much dirt if the pile is not flexed to release trapped dirt. Vibrational agitation also does very little. Unless someone has got good statistical data from well-conducted testing that accounts for things which could invalidate the data, their videos aren't likely to mean much. Manufacturers test to formal industry standards and also have it independently verified. And then you’ve got to factor in environmental impact and ease of use. Dyson come out on top according to the conclusions from testing. Much of this is discussed in my videos, as you’ve probably seen. People get very tribal about brands etc. and so when I explain all this convincingly on my channel and people simply don’t like it, I then get all the mindless hate.

No doubt some Kirby folks will come along with remarks like "look at what I vacuumed up with my Kirby after cleaning with the Dyson". Kirby might clean a little better, but who wants to bother with a giant contraption like that. Dyson cordless is to vacuums what cordless drills are to drills. Sure, contractors may occasionally need the power of a corded drill, but for most users, cordless is a revelation.
    That said, it would be nice if the cyclones could be rinsed. They do hang on to fine dust and as you mentioned, require tapping to remove it. Still, the vacuum almost never smells and I have a 3 dog household.

      I think if someone forgets to put it back on the wall, then they need a whipping for being lazy and useless until they learn ha. I wouldn't use a corded vacuum because what if someone forgot to put it away in the cupboard afterwards and I couldn't find it when needed; it would bug me. I think I missed the part where Dyson said corded cleaners are better; any chance you can send a link? I've observed corded aren't significantly better at cleaning performance relative to the V10. Also, send a link to where Dyson said they aren't producing corded vacs any more; I could only find links to places where they said they WERE still producing them (but not developing new models). A hybrid plugin defeats the point of the cordless, because then you've got to have a heavy, inefficient conventional motor and suddenly you've lost all the advantages and point of a cordless. Such an idea would be a gimmick that needs marketing trickery and stupid people who fall for it to sell well. 99.9% of cordless machines are crap; they're cheap copycat clones of the few that do it well and correctly. But the one that does it correctly (only the V10 at the moment) does it so well that it is better than a mains machine overall.

    We have had the V8 for three years now and have been looking at the V10. The only issue we have now is that the battery is finally starting to lose run time. However that being said I have tried other competing products including Shark (the quality of Shark builds is really low). You are spot on about competitors with their additional batteries. The batteries combined might match the one single battery in a v8/v10. I would assume that the battery on the V10 has improvements in Battery technology that will make it last longer. In the end though I rarely use max power on our V8. We are a multi cat household and regular setting on the V8 can handle litter tracking and fur dust balls just fine. So the main criticism we all see about the v8/10 is that its low run time on Max setting. You never need to use max setting and if I do not have to with animals neither does anyone else...

    Does putting the vacuum back in the wall charger and leaving it there until I next use it weakens the life of the battery? If the vacuum is fully charged is it ok to still leave it in the charger? I only vacuum once a week. Also how long does it hold a full charge before use when not in the charging docking station

    • @VacuumFacts
      @VacuumFacts  5 років тому +3

      No. battery life is diminished naturally through charge and discharge cycles. I can't remember off my head how many cycles these batteries are rated for, but it doesn't really matter, because in real-world use, with correct use of the on-off trigger, Dyson have apparently measured the battery to retain 80% of it's original maximum capacity after 15 years, which is 3 times longer than competitors. Not sure about the discharge rate of these batteries, but some older technology would lose about 1% per day. I suspect this has improved greatly since back then. The vacuum is designed to be left in the charger whenever it's not in use and it always remains fully charged and ready to go. Since I got this, I don't vacuum once a week now. I vacuum every day or two, but do just 1 or 2 rooms at a time. So much easier to bite-size the work and it takes the chore out of it.

Although I once pulled my rainbow off of the counter (while it was on high setting) tripping on the cord and nothing happened to that either. Dyson plastic is quality. It may bend but it is like energy absorbing. It's supposed to bend. It kept my Dyson from breaking. I am convinced the new v10 is better then a cordless machine. I actually went to best buy and used one. I loved it. It actually felt like same airflow as my rainbow vacuum. Also the rainbow vacuum leaks a lot of air through every single connection point. So therefore by the time the airflow is pulled through the cleaner head I'm sure a quarter of it has been lost in the leaks. The Dyson v10 is completely sealed and I'm sure it could clean better then the rainbow in my opnion. Better design. I am going to try to get a v10 as soon as I can! Thank you for the great videos!

They’re light yet extremely durable, so statistical failure rates are very low, despite the scaremongering. Materials science has moved on hugely since the days of cheap brittle plastic and heavy metals that cheap knock-offs use. People are still keen to bash Dyson though because they use ‘plastic’, which is very unfair and shows such people don’t understand materials science. Since I got my V10, I’ve never used my other Dyson mains machine, and that was the best performer on the market according to industry standard tests. In fact, I think it now has dust on it! For that to be meaningful, can you show evidence of how the batteries were treated during their lifetime and how they failed in precise detail at a technical level. Maybe they were abused? What about statistical significance of the failure rate? A handful in a shop says nothing about the global population of cleaners. To note that some have 'failed' somehow doesn't really say much about the product. Furthermore, an official (safe) replacement battery costs like £50 from dyson; they'll mail it out and you pop it in.

      The V8 and V10 battery can be removed by removing the screws. I have the V8 and now after 3 years of using it 3 to 4 times a day the battery run time is now diminishing. Other than that its still a good value. I will be buying a new battery from Dyson for our V8. I will however probably wait on the next generation and skip the V10.

    I just bought this today Feb 1st 2020 as it was on offer we currently use the upright centric big ball 12kg heavy compared to this V10..
    I was just gutted I bought the least powerful V10 animal and not the absolute V10..
    Could you tell me its not worth the extra £100 just for another head...
    Could you also tell I didn't make a mistake because when I ordered the V10 animal for £349 I saw the latest shark for duo anti hair 80 minutes running time for same price you get sharks 5 years warranty free of charge....
    Could you tell me which 1 is better and have I made a mistake?

      Hard to say because different countries offered different things. There's not that much difference in the heads, but the more modern the head, the better it performs. If you feel you bought the wrong one, you have a 30 day money back guarantee so can return it. Then you can purchase the device of choice. The Shark is a capable machine, but not as strong a performer or good a product as the Dyson variations.

    I do like the Dyson but I feel like the run time would be a limitation for me as I usually spend a while vacuuming. I do like to use my Numatic vacuum as it built for commercial environments and it’s really well made and durable. The 9 litre capacity is also a plus. I don’t really feel that the newer Dysons are as well built as the older Dysons. I have owned domestic vacuums like Dysons and Vax and the commercial vacuums always seem to be built to last. Could you do a video comparing Commercial vacuums to Vacuums intended for domestic use?

    • @VacuumFacts
      @VacuumFacts  6 років тому +3

      I've learned not to spend a long time vacuuming; just do it bite-sized more regularly. Much easier. 20 minutes is plenty for me and many. Bin capacity is a non-issue because it's so easy to empty (about 5 seconds without mess). There's no objective evidence I've come across that newer models are less well built; most people's feelings (a.k.a. revelation-i.e. non-evidence) don't count as evidence. I don't own a commercial vacuum. I think it's down to the manufacturers to show performance for those machines. But it would be like comparing a car to a tank; different purposes and not comparable even though they both carry people from one place to another. The closest I've done to that is the video explaining the issues with central vacuums (ua-cam.com/video/80hepoNEZhM/v-deo.html ).

    • @Xenon777_
      @Xenon777_ 6 років тому +3

      JohnnyL8 I remember the old DC07 that was used in my house. It lasted over 10 years and the filters didn’t get cleaned for 9 years of its life. It was quite heavy and even the dirt bin had quite a lot of weight to it. What killed it was bad bearings in the motor. I don’t think that the newer Dysons could withstand 10 years of heavy use unfortunately. There is a video on UA-cam of a tear down of the Dyson Big Ball vacuum by AVE and there was quite a lot of evidence in that video to indicate that it was lower quality.

    • @VacuumFacts
      @VacuumFacts  6 років тому

      Dyson do claim their machines have a 10 year lifetime; guaranteed for 5 (for statistical reasons). I don't know why the cordless only have 2 year guarantees, but my original DC35 was functional for 6 years without issue before I upgraded. I'm not aware of real evidence of lower quality; teardowns by ameteurs are not convincing. What was the evidence they claimed out of interest? Dyson test to failure in a statistically significant way and appear confident they last, assuming the manual is followed (e.g. not avoiding washing filters for 9 years). Again, 'feelings' don't count for much when it comes to matters of fact; formal objective evidence rules in that domain.

      "most people's feelings (a.k.a. revelation-i.e. non-evidence) don't count as evidence"
      one reply later...
      "but my original DC35 was functional for 6 years without issue before I upgraded"
      It doesn't take a genius looking at their new designs to see their weak points. If you're willing to go look at the flimsy plastic wheel single joint axle on their new canister range and conclude that they're perfectly suitable, then I don't know what to tell you. There are hundreds of negative reviews involving the wheels simply falling off that weren't there with any of their previous cylinder designs. ua-cam.com/video/NPTzNJMd19A/v-deo.htmlm28s
      Reviews aren't indicators of overall failure rate, but it can be useful for comparing between different models relatively. Would it be great if the Institute For The Industry Standard Testing Of Vacuum Durability existed? Sure, but it doesn't and reviews are a useful way to see how well machines compare. We're not determining the heat death of the universe here...

    • @VacuumFacts
      @VacuumFacts  6 років тому

      Opt-in reviews are easily falsifiable testimony and don't count as convincing evidence. Only failure rate as measured objectively counts and I'm not aware of any data publicly available to conclude confidently that there are design flaws. This is strengthened by the severity of their testing which is rigorous, formal, and statistically significant and ensures minimum probability of failure. Amateur YT videos like in the link also don't provide any explanation of how that damage occurred or how to successfully reproduce it in any formal way, so aren't convincing at all. Evidence evidence evidence when it comes to matters of fact, and you alsmost certainly won't find it in the public-space web.

    I've been very interested in these Dyson vacuums but had my skepticism so I went to the Mall of Scandinavia here in Sweden where they have a store with all their products and tried one out and they were simply amazing. Still, they were way out of my budget since I was still a bit skeptical. A couple of weeks ago the Dyson V6 Animal Extra was on sale for 1 999sek around £175, $220 and I bought it. While it's their oldest model it's without a doubt a life changing gadget! It works so well that I wouldn't mind paying full price for it. It's really amusing how people slam a product without ever trying it.

      Yeah. Sometimes you can make reasonable, well-thought-out assumptions without using every possible product, but for something like a new form-factor product, there's no substitute for at least properly trying it. The V10 is light years beyond even the V6. I predict the V12 in 2020 will revolutionise the market again with advanced battery technology unlike anything seen in user products, so start saving. :)

    I've recently learned that I've become allergic to dust and dust mites. I presently have a corded budget vacuum 50 $/€ with a hepa filter of 95.5% since 2 year back. Is upgrading to a Dyson v10 worth it? I also have an air purifier since I really want to get rid of the menace of sinus issues and headaches.

    • @VacuumFacts
      @VacuumFacts  3 роки тому

      The output of any sealed HEPA grade machine is the same, including the V10 onwards. If it's not sealed, dust can bypass the filter. From an allergy point of view, the V10 onwards has a bin emptying mechanism which can prevent significant dust splashback when emptying, and this can be achieved without the cost or environmental impact of bags. It also makes the chore of cleaning easier than mains machines, meaning you can spot clean, or otherwise, more frequently.

    After using the og V6 at my girlfriend's house many times its hands down much better than any corded vacuum.
    It's there when you need it....it will pick up anything and rarely needs cleaning.
    The only problem I encountered was the filter clogging.
    I cleaned it with hot water and laundry detergent Until the water was BLACK about 3-4 times and now it works like new.
    It's 8+ years old and nothing is broken on it and the batteries still last long enough to do the whole house in one charge...

      Thanks for the comment. The V6 is still a better machine than most modern competitor cordless after all these years-because they did it right rather than just to make a fast buck. The V10 is massively better than the V6 now. Filters are best rinsed with cool water monthly to avoid them building up dirt and avoid smells. If you never clean it ever, it’ll end up making the water black like you saw haha

      I dont believe Dyson are discontinuing the V10. In fact, they still support their V7 and 8. Although, specific third-party shops and sellers may be discontinuing it. And yes, the extra tools are expensive (as is everything they sell). It's the premium surcharge, alas-common for any technology. Some tools you might be able to get cheaper second hand, although I would avoid knockoff clones which don't work as well.

    I wouldn't consider myself a "Dyson hater", I still think they have the best cyclonic dust separation in the industry and that their cordless machines are the best, full stop. My issue is when people insist that we should all convert and that everything else is old technology.
    I recommend bagged vacuums to most people because most people simply don't give a damn about vacuuming -- they don't remember to wash the filter nor to not overfill the bin and bagged vacuums are simple stupid in that regard. Decent filtration bags trap the majority of the dirt, the prefilter stays clean and the postfilter just has to deal with carbon dust.
    And ultimately for the environment, it's better for them to throw out a bag every year rather than throwing out unmaintained vacuums every two. I know people which only have cordless sweepers without any suction as their primary cleaners; goes to show how little most people care about the cleanliness of their carpets.
    It's like K-Cups and NespressoPods. They're more expensive, produce lackluster tasting coffee, worse for the environment, etc yet people prefer them because you don't have to worry about cleaning filters, brushing off coffee grounds, etc. For many people, it's better.

    • @VacuumFacts
      @VacuumFacts  6 років тому +3

      I hear you; many people just don't give a crap. But I've never been one to advocate compensating for carelessness by failing to embrace better technology. The worst of us shouldn't be dictating what's available to the best of us. I suspect such people don't constitute the majority though given the numbers of people who buy Dyson cleaners, which given their price, are known at purchase time to be high end. People who genuinely don't care buy cheap. To believe it's better environmentally, I'd need to see some data for that which shows it to be true on a global scale. I don't know if such data exists.
