      Hi Sonja, thank you for your question! These type of bendy nails for some reason usually are naturally very shiny. They really benefit from a hardener. My client's nails in Canada really approved with hardeners and I've seen it over and over...

    I have the same issue, soft, bendy, peely & see through. Have my entire life & am healthy. I don’t come in contact with water often but still moisturize regularly. I rarely use polish or hardener because it seems to make it worse. I take biotin and all it does is grow them faster but not thicker. So frustrating.

    Her nail are very similar to mine in terms of her issues. I was lucky enough to find Nailtiques over 20 years ago. If I use the Formula 2 as my base coat and top coat and throw on a coat anytime the ends of my nails are exposed, my nails do really well. I highly recommend it. And I will try the product Anna recommends here as well.
    To clarify, if my nail polish chips or wares away from the ends of my nails and I don't have time, or feel like doing them at that moment (happens a lot because I do physical therapy in the pool, often late and it can ware me out) I will do a coat of the Nailtiques over the messed up polish. It keeps the layers of my nail from separating, flaking and peeling. If I leave it uncovered overnight more often than not, I'll get a big layer flake up and peel of and then that nail is totally flimsy again until that grows out. And I know that the same thing can work differently for different people. I only know what gives with my nails. Anna is the one who really knows of course.💜💜💜

    Glad to have found a series regarding nail care. My nail dilema is a bit different. My nails are hard, usually grow fairly well, but I do seem to always have one or two nails that are peeling. I was never sure why they peeled (until watching this video). I wash my hands often, moisturize them with an emoillent handcream every night before bed, and thought filing down the peeling/flaking until it appeared smooth was the answer to stop the peeling. After watching this video, I realize I should not be using nail hardner. Not sure about the filing/smoothing down the peeling nail . . . might just be spreading the damage further down the nail. I'll take a look at your other videos to see if they address my specific issue, but I definitely need to start using nail oil every time I wash my hands.

    Very good, thank you. My nails were peely for years after chemo.Adding healthy fats to my diet put a stop to it. I found taking a couple of capsules of Talyala Emu Oil a day improved my nails and my skin. Also I rub the same brand of oil into my nails keeps them nice. I always wear gloves washing up, and if my skin is dry, I wash my hands with Cerave moisturiser, instead of soap, and that helps the skin round my nails repair. I don't get anything for recommending that oil, I just wish I knew about it sooner, having damaged nails really upset me and finding it helped me so much I just want to share. It also helps my hair. Our indigenous people in Australia have used it for hundreds of years for many things, I love it on my face too. Thanks

    I am currently growing out my nails from lack of care (not salon damage), and they are soft/bendy by nature. I have both Mavalas. My nails do better with polish, as without it, those ends that are growing out easily separate and peel right on the very edge with any wear and tear. Polish seems to prevent that. I oil and moisturize a lot, and it doesn't seem to matter for this type of peeling I get right at the edge - unless I have polish on. I am keeping them super short right now to keep my tips in better shape as the old nail grows out regardless.
    My question is should I leave polish off and use the Mavala for a while (and risk that fraying edge), or should I use the Mavala Original weekly under Dazzle Dry to help keep the layers sealed and still provide some strengthening?

    • @Michelle-ol3iq
      @Michelle-ol3iq 2 роки тому +8

      This is what happens to me, just a day without polish often sets one nail back. I’ve been using the Mavala with the formalin as the instructions state once a week for that one. I let it soak in for 30 mins then spend a couple of hours reapplying jojoba oil, then apply my polish for another week. I’m finally having some results.

    Thank you Anna! These videos are so helpful. I have thin, bendy nails and when you said that water can cause a lot of damage (swelling and then shrinking) it all started to make sense! I was constantly having to have my hands in water (no gloves) for a few years (not anymore) and I think that may have made my condition worse. I bought the Mavala K+ but didn't get in to a routine of using it. I will def do so now. Do you recommend 3 x week?
    My routine is morning: shower and then Mavala Cuticle Oil on the nails, then a hand cream. During the day (if home): after washing put on hand cream after washing hands (I don't wash excessively). Night: jojoba oil before bed. Should I be doing the jojoba or cuticle oil more during the day?
    I did have a home gel kit and used that over Xmas but then it peeled off and it damaged the nail. Nail polishes peel off too. Wondering if that has anything to do with the moisture in my nail? I was going to go get into a routine of a salon manicure but I am now holding off until my nails are 100% perfect. This series of videos are so helpful to so many!! There is nothing like it on youtube or any other social media site. Thank you ❤️

      I think, from watching a few videos, that putting oil on every time you wash is more important than a hand cream ( I try to do both). I have oil that is in a nail polish type bottle with a similar applicator so it’s easy to carry around with me. Good luck!

    Reddit has really scared me away from hardeners but my nails are very bendy when they have any length and it's caused them to tear. I always thought bendy nails were normal, but my friends are not like that at all, so maybe that's my problem. I'm going to give this product a try! I figure if it just makes them worse I'll chop them down and start again LOL. Thank you for these videos!!!

    I've had soft bendy nails my entire life. I once found a product like this that helped but when I went back to buy more it was no longer for sale. I just found another product that contains formaldehyde: OPI Nail Envy Maximum Strength Nail Strengthener. It's about $5 less than the Mavala per bottle and Target (US) carries it. The reviews are 5-star. Hope that helps someone who needs to pinch their pennies.

      I also found that there is an Essie product that contains dimethyl urea and gets good reviews. It's essie Hard To Resist Nail Strengthener Treatment. It's only $10. It seems like it's a tinted clear polish, though, rather than just a liquid that seeps into the nail bed, so I doubt it works as well as the products recommended by Salon Life channel.

    • @TheSalonLife
      @TheSalonLife  2 роки тому +1

      Hi Jennifer! I have Essie Hard to Resist. It doesn’t have Dimethyl Urea though (with is a cross linking ingredient). It has Hydroxyethyl Urea which is a completely different chemical. It’s a moisturizer.
      The reason I prefer Mavala is that from my experience it has to be used more often to see a difference. Like 2-3 times a week. Some people don’t like to change polish that much. Also sometimes polish adds to the damage to the nail plate especially weakened nail plate.
      Formalin acts quicker and it might not have to be used as often because formalin works faster than Dimethyl Urea (it’s also easier to overdo it and end up with nails that are too hard though)

      @@TheSalonLife Great information--thank you! I should have watched your video twice and taken notes! I have noticed that formulas with formalin/formaldehyde have much higher reviews! And you're totally right. A liquid alone is a much better product than a clear polish.

    I wonder about the woman’s diet. Is she getting close to 7-10 cups of vegetables daily? I focus on my diet and still still struggle to consume enough vegetables within my feeding schedule. I practice time-restricted eating (intermittent fasting) and consume two meals daily. To ensure I get my vegetables in, I take Alaya Organic Green Superblend supplement. Within one month, I noticed nail growth. Within two to three months, my nails were long and HARD.

      @TheSalonLife  2 роки тому +3

      Thank you for mentioning diet. Well balanced diet is always recommended but it’s not as easy to say that is the solution to her problem. Lack of protein can also affect the nails as someone’s general health. Also digestion is very important. If the digestion is not healthy then the good diet and supplements are not the solution.
      Also it’s worth noting that it takes a long time to see results from correcting nutricional deficiency or other health issues.
      When the deficiency is corrected (which takes time) the body then let’s say is able to form a better nail (which happens at the matrix). It takes 3-6 months for the “old” and “weak” nail to grow out and only then you would see a difference.
      Hormones also play a role on how the nails are formed. Some woman only experience nice and healthy nails when pregnant. The nails also grow much faster during pregnancy.
      There so much that goes into health and appearance of nails.
      I forgot to ask how the viewers nails on her toes. That also could provide hints.
      When it comes to suspected nutritional deficiency I would suggest to talk to a good dietician and doctor to run some blood work to see what’s going on.

    My nails have been soft and bendy all my life. However, there have been 2 times in my life when they started growing strong. The first time I was sick and drinking meal replacements (Ensure) every day for a month or so. More recently, I’ve been taking prenatal vitamins for fatigue and my nails are growing stronger again. I’m not going to take them forever though, and will go back to my normal multi soon.
    I’ve taken women’s multis all my life and my nails didn’t grow strong with just those, so I just have to figure out what nutrient from the prenatal is helping them grow. I don’t know if it’s wise to supplement something you don’t need just to get strong nails though. I don’t know if my soft nails are just genetic or the result of a chronic deficiency.

    I love your videos they are so informational and helpful and truly you make it easy to understand your in-depth information. Is it safe to be using the Mavala scientifique k+ while also using Kerasol on my nails? I have been using Kerasol on my feet and a little of my nails weekly, basically every time I take a shower since I do not leave the house as often I take one about every 3 days, or 2 as needed basically. I bought the kerasol for my feet, I apply it with my bare hands and so I just rub excess on my fingers. I have been doing this for about a month and I have noticed that my nails are much harder than before when they are not as moisturized, moisturized hey are still bendy and soft but not as much as they used to be. When I expose my hands to any water (literally less than 30 secs) they do get super soft and bendy like they used to be. My nails still grow and peel of course, since I am using Kerasol I'm afraid of putting too much urea on my nails if I also use Mavala + I usually rub 10% niacinamide on my body as well..so with all this will my hands suffer from over exfoliation? If you prefer a picture and email I will do that as well, thank you!

    Hi. I watched your video with great interest. I have never been able to grow long, strong nails. My nails have always been soft, and they tend to split a bit different than the ones shown in the video. They always split at the very end. Sometimes the just bend backwards and break very low, towards the nail bed, or even below the nail bed. When I’m on summer vacation, and use a lot of sunscreen, and the air is a bit more humid, I’m able to grow my nails a bit longer, and they are a bit stronger, bit it won’t last long after I get home. Do you think nail hardener is the right thing for me? And what kind of oil do you use for the nails? Is jojoba oil a good choice?
    And another thing… after reading another comment… My nails are quite smooth on the surface, and very shiny, naturally. I never use nail polish, because that always makes them split more easily.
    (P.S. I live in Scandinavia where the winters are very cold and dry, and the air is never really very humid unless it’s been raining.)

    Thank you very much for this information. I'm a post menopausal 61 year old woman who is suddenly dealing with most of my fingernails peeling. I use rubber gloves whenever I wash dishes. This winter I made a batch of beef tallow body butter and that has helped my skin, but not my nails. I've been working with a lot of paper since January, which has dried my hands out, and I'm fairly certain that is the cause of my peeling nails. I'll buy some of the Malvala and follow your suggestions on how to use it. What type of oil do you suggest to put on my nails post washing?

    My nails are a hot mess! They have the small lines going up and down as in this video, the area of skin right above the nails is always damaged looking and often times sore, when I try letting my nails grow out, several of them start getting wavy? And finally my left thumb has pretty bad damage. I think at some point years ago I tore part of my nail off so theres like a split where part of that nail grows at a different rate as the rest of the nail. When it gets long enough I just pull it out. Difficult to understand without a picture Im sure! 😂 Im going to try applying some of these techniques because Id love to start doing my own polygel nails at home but I want my natural nails to be as healthy as possible first.

      @@TheSalonLifeI use pure jojoba oil. I’ve done 2 warm oil soaks in the past 3 wks.

    Every single time I paint my nails they literally start to peel off in thin layers & they bend very easy. I used Deborah Lippmann base & top coat every time, so I'm wondering if that's the issue or if my nails just can't handle nail polish. They don't peel when I do not have nail polish but they still break easily & bend sometimes. I wash my hands normally & not excessively. I need help. 😫 😅

      Hi Kate! Sadly I believe you. Some people's nails somehow don't do well with nail polish. If your nails are very bendy then Mavala K+ could help.
      How long do you keep the nail polish on? How do you remove it? Just making sure you are not peeling it off... probably not but I have to ask :)
      Also, do you buff your nails?
