I have been watching a few of your videos on the difference between dry, brittle, peeling, weak nails in order to figure out what to do with my thin and extremely peeling nails. I had them since Nov of 2021. I started using Mavala Scientique 2 months ago as directed and my nails are healthy again. I’m so incredibly grateful that I came across your channel. You saved my nails. Thank you so much.
I used to be a nail biter and this product was a lifesaver for me. I couldn’t get my nails to grow because 1) well, nail biting, 2) they were too fragile and the free edge would always break and/or peel, 3) the fact that my nails were weak made me think that I would never have nice nails anyway and it would estimulate even more biting. I started using it about 2 years ago, first twice a week and then reduced it to once a week. I’ve tried using it every 15 days, but my nails get fragile again. Now my nails can grow long without breaking and they look much better overall.

Was a nail biter, wore acrylic/gel nails for years, buffed…basically abused my nails & did everything wrong. Consequently, I’ve had very thin, weak nails that would fold and peel off along with terrible skin around the nails. The Mavala +K hardener along with cuticle oil has totally changed the way my nails look. I’m finally proud of how nice my hands look and can’t thank you enough!

As a non professional I would go with the K+ version (which is the only one available in France anyway ^^), because I'd rather go slow and steady with my nails to have the chance to correct the course of the treatment rather than completely mess them up 😱

You make SO MUCH SENSE and are SO CLEAR and THOROUGH that it makes me angry that the vast majority of 'manicurists' don't have or share this information. I started using the original just a week ago because of your other video about weak/bendy nails and have already seen improvement. And now, I have even more precise info about why you shouldn't over-do it. I'm planning on doing this for a month or so regularly (2-3x a week) and then pulling back to 1-2x a month and using the Probelle nail hardener as a clear-milky polish in between. And of course, I've massaged in some high quality oils! Thank you so much for this info! I'm still working on not clipping/biting the skin around my nails but i'm getting there slowly with 'cuticle remover', light 'filing' and more moisturizing.

Thank you! My nails have peeled all my life and nothing helped. Based on your prior video about bendy nails I bought Mavala. My nails have grown and the peeling has decreased significantly after about a month. I can’t believe it! I’m hoping the bending will subside as they grow out. I really appreciate knowing the I should not overuse the product. You are incredible! In the past , salons talked me into gels, acrylics and all the things that were exactly the wrong things for me.
Used this in the early 80s: GREAT product. They did so much for my HS self esteem, Inhad. Nothing going for me, but I had pretty hands
Unbelieveably, I just started using this product again LAST WEEK after watching a bunch of videos about nails.
I purchased the original formula. I had it years ago, and was not diligent with my application. My nail care routine is now much more consistent, and I have done two, once a week, applications so far. Looking forward to less bending and peeling! Thanks for reminding me about this great product!

Thanks to your earlier video about Scientifique, I started using the original formula and OMG the change in my thin, peeling, soft nails has been AMAZING! I used it twice a week for 2 weeks, then once a week for 2 weeks. The improvement was better than I had expected! Thank you so much for showing me how to take care of my nails, proximal nail fold, and cuticles. Just after a couple of weeks watching you, my nail area has improved so much. No more bloody proximal nail folds…thinking that was cuticles, smoother nails, and healthier looking skin. I am keeping my nail area moisturized with jojoba oil and switched to a more gentle hand soap. I ordered the keratin+ nail hardener. I’m excited to try it. It will take time with my nails, but that’s ok. They have always been thin, bendy, and peeling.

I'm 49 and I've biting my nails on and off, more on than off, my whole life. I've been using the scientifique k + for some time now, and it's worked very well. However, I bought it to harden my nail sides which the bendy parts that keep breaking and it hasn' t solved that problem. Surprisingly, it's made wonders to my dried riged nails and general smoothness. I've been taking long breaks since I understood it could lead to more bad than good. Now, I know I can use on a more consistent use. Thank you for your videos.
I am so happy with Mavala. I bought the one with formalin. I have always had soft and flexible nails. I always clipped them, never filed them, because the file would just bend the nail, and it always turned out jagged. I have been using this product for about 8 weeks now, about twice a week. I also bought a set of glass files. I am so amazed, I finally have nails that I can file without mashing and shredding them!
For me, these nails are genetic, my mom has the same type. I thought that I was just stuck with them. The nails bend, so polish and gel popped off of them around the edges, since it's harder than my nails. I thought I'd never be able to enjoy polishes or have any length to my nails. It's very easy to over harden the nails and they can become very brittle and break easily too.

I think I'm going to order the K+ formula rather than the original. We have access to both in Australia, but if the original formula is easier to overdo, it makes the K+ formula seem more beginner friendly.
I purchased the K+ after watching your other video and I applied every other day for 2-3 weeks and can definitely tell the difference. My nails bend so easily which is why I got the product. I can say it works well but I imagine I have to wait for the nail to grow but my nails are definitely less bendy! Thanks for your great informative videos!
This product (Mavala Scientifique K Plus Nail Hardener) has been an absolute miracle. I had a dermatologist checking my nails recently and confirming they were healthy and all my vitamin levels were fine.
Somehow my nails have always been so bendy and break so easily.
I started using the product 3 weeks ago and so far my nails are intact and strong. I don't know if I am imagining it but it seems like they are growing a bit slower than usual, which I don't mind as they are not breaking and looking great.

Hi Anna. Thank you so much for uploading such helpful content and making it free. My nails got super peely from nail polish and glue-on nails (I got into this hobby over the summer) so I just bought Mavala Scientifique K+ to help them, because it's to the point where they're peeling even when shorter than my fingertips (no free edge). Even before any kind of manipulation, my nails were quite peely and thin (my sister has thick nails that grow long no matter what she's doing with them). I hope I'll be able to come back in a month or two with a positive update.
Hello from Melbourne, Australia. I have thin and peeling fingernails - one of the many symptoms of ageing but I'm glad to have achieved old bones! How do you know your nails are dry? Mine are thin, bendy and the tips peel in layers.

Question about polish application - if you let this thoroughly dry, can you apply polish, such as Dazzle Dry, on top of this? If you already have polish on, you cannot apply on top of the polish, correct? I’m specifically thinking of Dazzle Dry.

How to use any treatment like Mavala or OPI Repair mode. When you take the polish off, apply it. Wait for 10 min before you wash your hands. Apply oil or do warm oil soak and go about your day. Give your nails a break from polish for 1 day.
Then do a manicure and polish your nails a day later.

At the start of covid i swore off biting my nails. Ive been able to stick to it too which is awesome! I love the way my nails look when they are grown out but not so long that typing is obnoxious. I deal with very flexible nails that are somewhat thin and as soon as i get them looking nice one will always get a tear and so i will have 9 long nails and 1 short one after cutting the damaged one so the tear doesnt go deeper down the nail and need cutting even shorter. I am going to purchace one of these products to see if this will solve my issue of constant tears because of flexible thin nails. I am really excited that it works to change the structure of your nail not just build hardness through layering. I would never have found this product without you and I am very grateful that you have shared this with me. I am also glad to see that I am not the only person dealing with this issue.
I have since bought Mavala Scientifique (not the K+) and so long as I use it on a weekly basis it really does work! My nails feel much more rigid and far less flexible. I am dealing with occasional chipping which is easily filed back smooth. No more torn nails! I love this stuff. Its thin like water so one small bottle really goes a long way it also has a mildly chemical smell which is so faint that it isnt bothersome as you apply it and the smell goes away once its dry.

I just bought a 1% formalin strengthener (from NailTek) a few weeks ago and have used it a couple times. It’s nice to have a little more durability but I’m glad I knew to not do it too often. I like it so far.
Had to come and share my experience. I had extremely flimsy bendy nails, but not damaged -- I had fully grown out any gel damage. Used this twice, ten days apart. Only used it the second time because the first time I felt a slight difference but not much. Probably three or four days after, my nails started snapping right at the border of where I had put the product. Seven of my ten nails have broken at that (fairly close to the nailbed) spot in the past week. 😭

Thank you for all your advice. I just ordered the Mavala Nail Hardener that you suggested. I guess I've been to hard on my nails. They have always torn low, and I have to let them grow out to fix them. And recently, they have started to chip and peel. I can't wait to try the Mavala.
I bought both of them a few weeks ago, and I'm alternating using each of them once a week. I have peeling nails and I have high hopes for this product as it is the only thing that has helped the peeling to stop spreading down the nail. I'll have to wait and see in a few months if it truly worked for my nails, but I'm optimistic about it!
Whenever I've used a nail product with formaldehyde in it, I've had an allergic reaction around my eyes. The reaction is usually in the inner corner that will swell, turn red, and then kind of scabby. My dermatologist suggested that it was nail polish. When I stopped using the nail polish with formaldehyde in it, the rash and swelling would stop (this has happened to me twice. I didn't realize the 2nd time that formaldehyde was in it). Since you're so knowledgeable about all of this, I thought you would want to know about this reaction. I would be curious to know if you'd heard of this before from any of your other subscribers (Congrats on getting to 30,000 btw!). Thanks for all of your great videos - I always enjoy watching and learning from you!!
Hi Amy! Did you have a chance to read the article I posted? Nail Polish might contain tosylamide formaldehyde resin which is a totally different chemical than formaldehyde or formalin. And yes, you can be allergic to it.

I compare the difference to a difference in a meaning of “water” and “watermelon”. 2 different things. Also watermelon is not a mixture of water and a melon. 😏
So for example you can drown in water but watermelon doesn’t cause the same risk ;)
Or watermelon has calories and water doesn’t.
If someone is allergic to watermelon doesn’t mean that they are allergic to water :)
The words look similar and although the items are related they are not the same thing.
"The Skin Type Solution" by Dr. Leslie Baumann (a dermatologist) has an example of contact dermatitis for a young lady that was allergic to a specific blue dye in her nail polish. The affected area was around her eyes because her fingers would rest on that facial area while she did her eye makeup or when she wiped/rubbed her eyes and her nail polish came into contact with that skin. Something to consider. 🙂
Thank you for showing the ingredients. I’m allergic to sodium benzoate and would not have expected to find it in there. I guess I’m going to have to rely on oils and natural products.

I have naturally thin and bendy nails and I'm living in Europe (Romania).
I do take care of my nails, truly, but I'm so frustrated that I can't get my hands on formalin based strenghners anymore. They were my nails' holy grail in the past.
My nails tear in the middle of the lateral wall and it's terrible to care for those tears. I hate filling the lateral wall, but I don't know what else to do to prevent the tear from catching on anything and getting to the middle of the nail plate. It's paintful.
Then it takes at least 3 months for the tear to grow to the free edge...
Dymethyl urea should help in the same way, but it just doesn't... I've tried it and been patient.
Somebody should invent something to help thin nails grow thicker. That would cure a lot of problems. There is nothing like that yet, right???
I ordered the Mavala Scientifique but received the K+ one. I’m trying to see if there is anything I can do about the mix up. Otherwise, I’m excited to see an improvement with my nails. I’ve always had bendy, peeling nails. But from time to time I wear acrylics. I am natural mail since January 2021 and it’s been a process growing them out. So I’m hopeful this helps…..a lot. Lol

Thank you for this. I used the Nailtiques formula 2 and was amazing to fix my nails after gels. Unfortunately I cannot get the original mavala hardener in my country which I think would be comparable to the Nailtiques. I have the k one but haven’t used it long enough. Would this be a recommendation as a replacement for the Nailtiques or would the original mavala hardener be better .
My nails have always been very bendy and soft. I actually ordered some of the original mavala a few days ago, and hoping it will help. My nails were pretty badly damaged by a salon, but are growing out nicely.
Same for me (minus the damage), I've used it 3x now (in a week) and there's already a difference, they're visibly growing longer than ever before (still super short but i've never been able to keep ANY length at all). I'm staying on the oil massaging and they haven't dried out. They're still bendy but SO much better in just one week. Hope your result is amazing!

I bought just one week ago Mavala Scientifique K+ from your recommendation. My nails are splitting and peeling. They are also bendy as … I know I will have to wait for results to come but this is my last hope 🤣 I do mavala treatment along with jojoba oil after every wash

Can I safely use this under a gel manicure?
Sounds like a great product. I have a few questions though. Can you use nail polish after applying? Say thirty minutes or more later on? I would like to be able to treat, but use my nail polish when desired.
It's better to use Mavala alone because you are supposed to use it every 2-3 days.
I would get the nails back in shape first and then continue with polish.
My nails are extremely ridgy, thin and dry - to the point of causing the outer layers of the nail plate to split and peel from the ridges, making them look very dry and cracked. I'm working on growing out the damaged ridges by using Kerasal Multi Purpose Nail Treatment along with LOTS of nail and cuticle oil and hot oil treatments. I have a few more months to go with growing out damage, and keep them super short. If I were going to purchase one of them... I would use the DMU version, since using formaldhyde on my dry damaged nails made a mess of them and I'd be afraid of the same thing happening. I'm thinking I may be one of those people with very short nails. 😆
Both of these would not be a good choice for dry nails.
Soft and bendy nails only.
In your case adding flexibility (like your are doing) is a better option.
Obviously the Kerasal treatment is working for you because it contains urea. Dimethyl Urea is not urea (the moisturising one), although names are very similar. They both do completely different things.
Why oh why are the names so confusing. No wonder people are confused.

I’ve used a nail hardener. Let me tell you, my nails still broke but the break was much worse. Instead of a small snag or tear, the entire length of my nail tore off to the bed and it was painful for weeks.

These are completely different chemicals (urea and Dimethyl Urea) even though the have “urea” in their name. Like water, watermelon and waterski. All different things even though they have the word water in them.
Urea is a moisturizer, humectant, emollient.
Dimethyl Urea is a nail hardener
Imidazolidinyl Urea is an antimicrobial preservative.
Is it okay to use if I want to add it before gel cured nails?

My name is Stephanie and I've purchased the first one but two years ago
If the formalin is too strong it will burn your nail edge as if acid was on it leave it bleeding under all. I used pure before one or 2 drops in Nirmal cute. Nails grew great, then I put more dt like4 dtopsvon and I damaged my nails. The burning did not st for at least 2weeks and my nails went black.
This was such a helpful video again, thank you so much. I have the Mavala Nail Hardener at home but I havent used it yet. Would it be safe to use the Mavala Nail Hardener once a week in combination with the CND Rescue Rx (daily)? I have really bendy and soft nails. The CND Rescue RX has helped a lot already (been using it for 8 weeks now) but the nails are still weak and bendy.

Olive and June's Nail Strengthener is the same, seems like a dupe. The ingredients list (hard to see, scroll down there's info then a list to it) also states dimethyl urea and it seems to work the same, sinks in. Only it works as a primer too and forms a stickiness (not a polish that needs to dry) or tackiness over the nail. Interesting. Probably the best thing they make really.

I bought the scientique K+ as I have had bad reaction to gel polishes that mention formaldehyde in. It's early days still for results.
Hi Spooky lady! Gel polishes do not contain formaldehyde nor formalin.
Some regular polishes (not UV cured gel polishes) contain Tosylamide/Formaldehyde Resin. But this is a completely different chemical. It is a polymer formed from the reaction of toluene sulfonamide and formaldehyde.
Tosylamide/Formaldehyde Resin is used in nail enamel products. It is a soft resin material which, when combined with nitrocellulose, forms a tough, shiny film on nails. [Source: Cosmeticsinfo.org]
Some people might be allergic to it but that doesn’t mean it’s a bad or dangerous chemical. Just like some people are allergic to peanuts doesn’t mean that peanuts are bad for you or are a bad chemical.

Hello, I have been following your Mavala program since August 22. I have very very dry and soft nails that break and flake very easily. Already after 2 weeks I could feel improvement. But in September my thumb split lengthwise in the middle of the nail through all the layers about 5mm upwards. I chose to have a gel nail enhancer applied. After 5 months, January 23, the nail was back to normal. Unfortunately, it happened again this April, with a new stain. I haven't chosen an amplifier this time, as I can't moisturize the nail very well. The nail is as short as possible, use only file. I use Scientifique K+ pro keratin, oil, serum and nailactan from Mavala. Do you have a better suggestion? I always find your videos full of good advice, thanks for that. 💅🇩🇰🤗
Hi Anna, firstly can I just thank you again for all your videos and advice, I am using your gentle manicure technique and lots of oil, no more picking, pulling or cutting pnf and in only 10 days I see a big difference already in my nails, no sores and the few small calloused areas at side walls after gentle buff are gone. If possible may I ask another question, I have naturally dry bendy nails with ridges, easily broken and despite my nails looking beautiful defo a massive improvement sadly one of my nails broke, I can only seem to get scientifique K here in scotland, but I think I would prefer that. If you think this could help me do I still put my oils on after it's dried in as usual and if I do a cnd shellac mani can I put this on before. I have purchased cnd rescue rx, so for preventative/maintenance how would I use scientifique K, rescue rx and oils with or without cnd shellac please 🙏🏻
Anna l have a question about Dazzel Dry, almost all white polishes turn yellow or discolor when worn out in the sun as in a week at the beach, do you know if DD polishes fade or change colors like regular polish. Also regular polishes last for years with occasional thinning drops added, do you know if DD has a shelf life? Thanks 🙏
Hi Anna- I've been reviewing many of your informative videos trying to find a solution to my current nail concern. Here's my question: I have been using Dazzle Dry exclusively for 8 months plus following your advice, warm oil soaks, kerasal, oil...my nails have stopped splitting vertically and don't break but they are very ridgy ( think of a wavy potato chip!) and some free edges grow downward as they get longer. When I don't have polish on my nails feel dry, they are weak, semi-bendable but not brittle and they don't peel, thin...should I use one of these hardeners? THANKS!!!!
Has anyone had good results with the K+ version (non-formaldehyde)? I had very good results with Nail Magic years ago, which has formaldehyde, so I assume the regular formula would workbut I want to avoid the formaldehyde. I've tried NailTek and that did nothing for me.

Hi Val, I don't recommend this really for damaged nails. If the nail plate is thin the products might seep into the nail bed causing an allergy.
For surface damage warm oil soaks are better and maybe CND Rescue RXx that I discussed in this video

Hi Anna and Mr. Salon Life! I bought the regular Mavala, through your link of course. Also, I have started going the hot oil treatments ever since your video about it. So I remove my polish on Saturday afternoon, file, cuticle removal, etc. Then I do a warm oil soak. I try to wait a day to apply polish and apply oil very frequently while they are naked (and after they are polished). When I could wear nitrile gloves, going naked nails was easier. However, since they started giving me fingernail infections, I can’t wear the gloves any more. So I have a hard time going with naked nails because my nails are very weak and crappy and break easily. With naked nails, I pretty much have to not do much with my hands, and every time I use them, be very mindful and careful when I use them. Keeping that in mind, I was wondering if you can recommend the best time to use Mavala. After my mani and before the oil, after the oil, a couple of hours after the warm oil treatment, before my mani, etc. If I use it a couple of hours after the warm oil soak, how long do I wait for applying oil? I keep applying the oil like mad with naked nails. If I use it before the mani, do I use it after I cleanse my nails with alcohol?
OPI Nail Envy is a strengthener but a polish type product. So it doesn’t absorb in like the Mavala?
I have to admit to being a little nervous about using the Mavala. I’m always nervous when trying new things. My nails aren’t damaged, but a naturally on the thinner, crappier side. I have, as you probably remember, have had several nail disasters because of my skin’s reaction to product. So I always worry about what it will react to.
Hi Sherri. I would use it after removing polish and before your manicure even. Wipe it with alcohol and apply Mavala. Let it soak in and dry. After that I would say I would wait about an hour and washed my hands and do oil treatment. Or if you are not using cuticle remover you can do manicure and then oil treatment.
Ps. If you react to many things maybe try Mavala o 1 nail for a while and see if it’s ok?

Hi Viola! I don’t think so. Usually splitting is a sign of hard and brittle, dry nails. This product makes the nails harder and drier. It’s for soft, moist and flexible nails.
Ps. If your nails are splitting and are brittle you would benefit from warm oil soaks. I talk about it here

Because that's what people call it I guess and that's what it says on the label. Just like cuticle vs/ skin around the nails. I agree with you though, it should be "formalin"

You can :). The K+ is supposed to be used 2-3 times a week so I would wait until the nails are a bit harder before maybe before wearing polish.
Hi MSL! Have you tried CND Rescue Fx? Would like to hear about your thoughts on it if you had. I don’t use hardeners that are in the nail polish format, because it would take too long to dry if I am to follow up with coloured polish and top coat.

No, it’s a liquid so it needs to be absorbed into nails. :)
Can you use a gel polish on top?
You have to reapply it every couple days (the K+) so putting gel polish over it would not make sense. If you want to harden nails and wear nail polish (sometimes that can be helpful for undamaged nails that are moist and soft and don't hold gel polish very well) I would harden the nails first with the formalin based one (works quicker) and then once the nails have achieved proper hardness then I would add gel polish and then after removing gel polish, doing a manicure, apply Mavala original, giving the nails 1 day break and then redoing gel polish.
I would NOT use Mavala on nails that are damaged as it is NOT a repair treatment but a hardening treatment.

I prefer polish free treatments. Polish wear can add to the damage of the nail surface. Especially when worn for a long time
My nails feel hard but they keep peeling like crazy, can I use the hardener on them?
If they are hard then hardener will make them harder and more brittle. So that is not a good thing.

Hi Mela! I was looking for the ingredients which are difficult to find. Sadly this looks like another one of those products with quite exaggerated marketing. That really turns me off.

- * obviously it’s a nail polish so this is not a complete list. Tea tree oil is not strengthening, garlic? Vitamin C and E? How are they helpful? Nails are dead and cannot digest and absorb vitamins. Vitamins can be helpful for skin but skin is a living organ.
It contains none of the common toxins found in cosmetics, so your chance of getting sick from built-up toxins is reduced.
- * WHAT?! Cosmetics applied as directed are not toxic. Moreover amount makes a toxin. There is a big difference between wiping your nail with alcohol and drinking 5 litres on empty stomach. I guess we could say that alcohol is linked to alcohol poisoning and liver cirrhosis so we should never wipe our skin with alcohol or even not wipe the nails with it because “you can never be too safe”. 🤣
