Today is my birthday and whilst I didn't get any presents this year, I felt like this would be the perfect time to upload the review to a train I really liked for once. Hope you enjoy it and thank you so much to everyone who contributed footage for this video! Oh and a saussage roll, a box of La Maison du Chocolat and an expired De Lijn bus ticket is up for grabs for the poor sod who can guess all the filming locations.

rode a 373 at the end of august this year, it was bloody amazing. cruising at 186mph through the fr*nch countryside is just... beautiful. love the 373s to bits, they deserve a better fate.
These trains are fantastic I was lucky enough to ride them on BR first and that got me to get a passport so I could go on one at top speed from Waterloo to Brussels. I could not believe how smooth the ride was through France and quiet too unlike our trains. About two weeks after the 2nd tunnel fire I went on one from St Pancras and was put in the last coach as they rearranged everyones seats We departed 30 mins or so late and the driver gave it all he could to make up time, where we climbed and passed over the Southern line then dropped down is the only time I have ever felt -G on a train. We arrived in Brussels almost on time. I have been on the 374 and it is still good but not as stable or as quiet as the 373. The sound under the roof of St Pancras is like no other train I have heard and in the end coach you get great sounds of the motors. I have ridden in the last coach a few times.
I feel bad that I never got the chance to ride them in their unrefurbished days. I wasn't much of a Disneyland kind of person, nor did we have a 'regular' holiday destination growing up.
@@MaverickHunterDaniel I had never thought about getting a passport. We had holidays in Scotland for years. I met a friend on a forum who lived in Belgium and had been on the GNER Eurostars That set me thinking it will not be long before they stop using Waterloo and I could meet my friend in real. It was that that really made me go out of UK for the first time. Unrefurbished sets were more comfy but were in need of a refurbish and I am glad it has given them a longer life.
It seems we got a huge TMST or Class 373 lover here. Am I the only one who find the 373 hot in the GNER livery? It is indeed depressing that a lot of them died too young. However even tho these beautiful girls are godly. The TGV Sud Est holds for me the title ‘Best TGV’
Hurray, you managed to get one at last! Excellent video, and my favourite joke in this one was 'punishable by exile'. Thanks for making me laugh so much! And happy (very) belated birthday!
Hey this is quite the timing! One of the new Eurostar competitors is buying 12-16 trainsets from Alstom. These will be Power car + Coach sets. This basically will be a Class 373 2.0 (Avelia Liberty/Avelia Horizon power cars with Avelia Liberty cars).
Oh I didn't know the were going to be the single deck cars. Interesting to see how that comes across and let's hope Eurostar doesn't lobby them like Virgin did on the WCML. Healthy competitions is great to see and the Channel Tunnel could seriously do with some. Maybe a Flixtrain too.
I completely agree, the 373s are fantastic trains. I was fortunate enough to (accidentally) get allocated 373s on both ways when I went to the Netherlands, and since I hadn't travelled on them since before the pandemic, was blown away again by their comfort and style - I'd sort of forgotten how good they were. The ride quality is difficult to get over, at 125mph they still ride infinitely better than a Civity at 45. Hopefully they don't die a rapid death like the HST!
Oh fantastic and yeah, their ride quality is sublime and I really wish they were better used in the UK but alas, the train is too stronk. I'm guessing you were booked onto a Brussels service since 373s can't go into NL.
Was lucky enough to get a 373 both ways back in August 2023 from Brussels to London in Standard Premier, can confirm the seats were absolutely fabulous and very large (undeniably the second most comfortable seats next to the BR Mk1s) Ride was as smooth as silk too. I do recall riding on the pre-E300 refurbs quite a few years ago (to Brussels funnily enough) and I'll have to admit I prefer the look of the previous interior over the refurbishment, just looks too bright & poorly contrasted in my opinion.
I was recently on the Polish Pendolino (high speed train), what’s wierd is that the traction motors on both are quite similar both have that rapid pitch shift and the toilets on god are basically identical. Which is weird because these trains are 20+ years apart.
Now you can see why more people are using planes to fly between London and Paris and Edinburgh, Newcastle and Glasgow. I’ve also known someone who took the train to the alps from London and back and some people got so pissed the train was half filled with vomit and pee for the remainder of the journey.
Same. Though the last few times I've actually used Flixbus to get to the likes of Maastricht and Amsterdam from London instead of the plane since KLM and BA like money a bit too much. I also once used BlaBlaCar to Paris. Never again.
Maybe. It would need to be reconfigured since each 373 is technically a half set of 8/10 coaches. Plus the coaches are on jacobs bogies so it's not like with the HSTs where you could just easily reduce the coach formations liek GWR did.
Uh. I expected it to sound like a Velaro as the 373 sounds like the DB406 and DB403. I also expected the 374 to sound like the DB406/403 because they are both Velaros.
Wait, you're right! Dang it I'm so sorry! Genuinley forgot when doing the editing and when downloading them in the archive. Next time I need to reference the 373, I'll use your clip then :)
Mmm... yeah, gorgeous. Europe (including the UK) do need to agree on a common standard and unify our train safety systems, signalling systems and electrical power though, so that the next generation of cross border services isn't another mongrel hodgepodge like this one.

Finally the train of trains!
Indeed. It's called the TransManche Super Train for a reason!
10:55 And I can bet fireproofing is more important for Eurostar than other modern trains
Yeah, because tunnels are a more dangerous place for a fire to break out than the open air.
And yet the seats don’t seem to overly sacrifice on padding

what does the GG mean in if a 373 brakes down BHM then its a GG
It's gamer speak for "Good Game." In this context, saying GG is another way of saying "It's finished."

Why does this have a finale feel to it? I may be completely wrong
