I was going to say the biggest reason people buy Keychron is because they *CAN* buy Keychron. I’d much rather have a Sense75 or the Rainy 75 or the Zoom 75 or a myriad of other enthusiast boards that are likely better than Keychron. But I’ve been waiting for over a month now for something to come back in stock and nothing has. But I can literally walk into a MicroCenter and take home a Q1 Pro today. (Holding out hope for MicroCenter to start selling the Max line soon so I’m still waiting anyway 😂)

I use to be an average membrane keyboard enjoyer and then I discovered Hipyo. Recently did some light customization. Bought the Redragon K556, Akko Lavender V3 Pro switches (to swap out the brown Outemus) and Corsair double shot PBT keycaps and I am loving this typing experience so much. That sounds and looks nice but I still prefer my Q3 - as the ISO-de layout is my thing and I love the OS switching knob, QMK/Via support and the default mac keycaps. It is connected to my KVM and I switch between my PC, work laptop and MacBook all the time. Put on the Keychron developer PBT keycaps and did some of the usual tape and foam mods. It sounds and looks great now imho.

I built up a board with Gateron Smoothies and lubed the stock stabs, the board with SA profile PBT caps had a nice thoccy sound, especially the space bar. Must have something to do with the spacebar stabilizer having foam around it (the foam sandwiched inbetween the plate and pcb)

Hey, I just swapped my switches over from Baby Kangaroos which I loved, but I found the clacking a bit harsh.
I got samples of Gateron Quinn and Gateron's EverFree Greyish as possible replacements- and actually went with the Greyish. I might want heavier springs, but they're really good value, sound and feel good (lubed) and also actually work with RGB (unlike Quinns)- it might be worth you covering them?

    Hello Hipyo!
I would like to recommend an underrated keyboard that few have mentioned.
The Everest60 is my go to because of how cheap it was coming around 110$ USD! For keyboards of course that’s somehow considered cheap😅. They offer you a wide span (3) of switches to decide from. Beautiful premium double shot pbt keycaps in many color ways. A very unique feature it has is being able to connect a Numberpad to the keyboard (I won’t go in depth to it.) It would make me overjoyed to review the Everest60.
    Cheerio!

I also bought a GMMK Pro barebones for $120 (I know you're not hip on it btw), bought their upgrade kit and bought Everglide Aqua Kings V3s (totally clear with a gold stem) and some Kailh Box whites V2. I have V1 on a work keyboard and I really like them! I even tossed in the upgrade stabs that Glorious makes for $4.99. Fun fact from a typography nerd: the issue with the shift key having a larger gap between the f and the t is known as bad kerning. It is usually a mistake made by amateur font designers so it is often present in free or clone fonts. Kerning is adjusting the space between individual letters that don’t look visually balanced with the default letter spacing metrics. AV, YA, Ta, and RY are a few common letter combinations that often need to be kerned.

Then I got an Asus scope ii 96 the next month and then the next month after that (it was Dec so holiday sales) a ducky full size. The Keychron was the cheaper out of the 3 purchases but I love the ducky and Asus boards a lot for different reasons. Now it's 4 months later and I almost got the nuphy gem/cidoo v87/yunzii but ended up buying a gamakay sn75 barebone from china as an early bday gift for myself. Less than $180 nzd or so. There's a lot of options out there not just keychron. It's important to look around and see what's out there and most importantly identify what your own preferences are😊 thats the good thing about the keyboard hobby, choices are expanding a lot a lot

Are you thinking of changing your mind? I built my own V1 Max, and sure do appreciate the knob customization every day. (Some softwares don't let you customize the knob).
This lilac one on the other hand, it sounded beautiful!

What's the benefit of a 65% keyboard compared to a 75 or the one I prefer TKL, because I just don't get it. Where are the function keys?

As a strange thought has Hipyo done any keyboards in the way of ISO layout? (rather than ANSI) - Some of use prefer that layout and it'd be good to see what options there's available to us in other countries.. like those in Europe.

Hey, I've bought a Keychron Q1 Pro, because they are the only brand I found selling an metal in-stock kind of budget ISO-DE keyboard. For sure I could have bought an ANSI board and swapped the keycaps to ANSI-DE, but these are rare and also way too overprised for me. So the only choise for people not using ANSI Layout is to go Keychron
Or does anyone know an alternative?

Sadly for EU they are the most available for alt layouts :( Still not a bad board tho!

I've got a Keychron Q1 HE preordered. I became a fan of magnetic switches when I tried the Steelseries Apex Pro TKL. Not a fan of Steelseries, though. Had 2 fail on me in less than 6 months. I hope the Q1 HE fares better.

I wish these smaller companies start providing QMK not just VIA.
    QMK gives more control.

Okay, I'm surprised this isn't more widely known. Keychron keyboards HAVE a force break mod installed, and it works great, but if you tighten the screws too much the silicone bumpers get compressed and it gets pingy. Tighten the screws until you feel resistance but don't crank it down to where the top and bottom are in strong contact. I'm tired of people saying that keychron needs a force break, that was a problem with the first Q1 and other early models, but since Q1 v2 they've had silicone force break mod pre-installed.

I just wanna know if it will work well on mac like a native mac keyboard. I've had a gaming keyboard before and used Karabiner to make it work well but sometimes some keys just did not work randomly and had to disconnect and connect it back again to make it work. I would love to hear keyboard reviewers test this part and include a 5 second segment to the mac compatibility

Keychron keyboards like the V1 Max (very happy with it!) have a compatibility switch for Mac/Windows. I was in the unique position of needing a keyboard that works with both and with my steamdeck. So far so good!

the cool thing about keychron is that they come in multiple layouts, it's REALLY hard to find an ISO ES layout custom keyboard. Maybe you can find some boards with ISO layout and try to find some keycaps, but often out of stock or not very good quality.

So, I recently built my first custom PC and I need to get a keyboard. Right now I'm using an old Apple membrane keyboard from the early-mid 2000s, but I want a decent mechanical keyboard as my daily driver. I would prefer a pre-built, but I wouldn't be opposed to a custom keyboard.
I was considering a Keychron K4 Pro or K10 Pro, because they're in my price range of $150 Canadian (which is the max I want to pay for a keyboard), and those models have both the number pad and F keys. However, I've heard some concerning things regarding their shipping and customer service, I can't seem to find a Canadian retailer who carries those models, and I absolutely refuse to buy anything from Amazon.
Anyway, I just thought I'd ask if anyone around the comments section might have any recommendations for decent mechanical keyboards in the $100-150 Canadian Dollar range
