If you is interested in spray painting the greatest results that i've ever had was with the Magic Painter Method (just google it) definately the most helpful course i've followed.
I've done this before and I have a few pointers for you if you want an even better finish. Put all your basecoat cans in a bucket filled with hot water for about 30 minutes before you paint, the hot water will raise the pressure in the cans to help better atomize the paint, will eliminate any tiger striping. Also, you should run a tack rag over each coat of basecoat after it's dry, it will pull up any microscopic overspray you can't see until you've cleared it.
I know how she feels. That’s why I got a Red Tundra. I like your wife is helping with the taping. I used to do that with my ex.ALSO to the “color haters” - she can now find her car in the parking lot amongst the 1,234,567,890 other gray Hondas. Ladies can do good detail work. Subscribed.
Get a rust-oleum comfort grip hand gun for spray cans and thank me later. You will not have to go through the pain in the fingers after pressing the nozzle for long time.
I'm always surprised when watching his videos that he hasn't figured that out yet. They are SO much better for long paint jobs, AND seem to allow for better hand movement for proper coverage.
James D guy can you show us the dofference before and afyer of the wet sand what exactly does wet sanding do. And step by step instructions. Oan i love the vids great work keep it up the paint jobs look really cool im using your video to try and paint my old civic lol its already patchy grey and silver now so anything is an improvement on my different colored fender car lol
Hey James I think ima gonna grab a 1985 lesabre and paint it lol its about the same size as a caprice classic I'm curious how many cans of 2x and 2k clear I should grab to do it and how many coat should I shoot for... also fun question what do u think would happen I coffee ground up some holo metal flake and shot it out of a cheapo air gun then sanded and applyed clear do think it could look cool or is it just a waste materials ?
Lol so why do people pay over 4 grand for a paint job? I just re did my Supras roof colour matched with rattle can and then the 2k clear coat for under 100$. Quoted over 600$ at a shop. I'm now confident enough to redo the front bumper and hood myself, with a polish and buff should turn out just as good from a shop.
That's Awesome... I've watched a LOT of DIY car painting vids.... but this one, with the 2K clear.. Wow.. just Wow..... I have a 1968 Austin Healey Sprite, (aka MG Midget twin), that had a cheap/bad paintjob when I bought it that was just thrown on to protect the bare metal... A senile old lady sent it to be restored, and spent thousands in rust repair, replaced panels, family found out, Pulled the plug...... I'd decided I was going to just spray it in PlastiDip... But NOW.. I'm doing THIS !!!
I highly recommend blocking the open part of the garage door with boards or something to make the draw of the fan stronger. Open a window on the opposite side of the garage for a cross flow effect.
Have you tried using a different spray cap that does a larger area? Pretty sure they are called "fat caps" or something like that. Instead of painting a door in like 12 passes, it only takes about 5 or 6 passes with a fatter spray cap.
I did my entire 350z in spray cans. Painted it in brickyard red and used the max 2k clear. The clear is very hard and took sanding and compounding very well. I actually had body shops tell me it looked like a professional job. I took all the panels off and did the door jams and creases as well. Came out amazing
Nice. My son and I just repainted his hunter green 95 Impreza to gloss navy blue on sides/ends, with pewter colored hammered hood, roof and hatch. We did it in the open sided carport! 😆 Took us 26 cans of paint but we did 5 coats dark grey on horizontal surfaces and 7 coats of blue on the sides, nose and rear. All we did was sand it twice with 150 grit by hand, cleaned, taped/wrapped, wiped down with mineral spirits and tack cloth and sprayed. Took us 4 full days worth of work, spread over a week. I learned cans of paint have shitty instructions that can mess you up. Always do the exact plan on scrap metal. First fender I used as test spray was fine until layer 2 of Clear coat. Then it wrinkled badly. This schedule worked the best for us. Looks very good for cans. Temp was between 50 and 70F while spraying, and humidity was 20 to 35%. All Rustoleum brand. Waited 10 to 15 minutes between coats. 10 in daytime. 15 at night. Navy Blue 2x - 1 coat. 2 coats navy blue Enamel. 4 coats Clear Enamel. Cost was about $235 in paints, as all are $6 to $11 a can now.

Unbelievable just the way it is you don't even have to wet sand it and buff it . Great job again and I am going to paint my 1997 Mustang gt Convertible with the solid red because the old paint is fading and it looks like crap but I am going to get some of that 2x gloss red and sand it first and then put 1 coat of Primer and then sand it again and of course prep it and wipe it down with acetone acetone and start painting from the bottom just like the way you do it excellent job.

Try the rustoleum bed liner from a can for the black, it's got a low texture gloss finish, drys fast, and I haven't seen any problem with it in the sun.
Couple hints.. make sure the paint cans are the same lot number and sand and prime any rust spots, sand again a wipe car down with acetone before painting . But all in al a really awesome paint job mention total number of paint and clear coat cans you used . And $$$ amout for this fabulous paint job. Thanks
Looks great! But I’m wondering why you started from the bottom and go up i was taught do the edges and go from the top down so the overspray doesn’t cover what you already painted and also so you don’t get runs ? I’m not knocking you I’m just curious
how much over spray did you get on that truck?? and how sore was your finger? lol...every time i paint with a can my fingers start hurting so bad i cant move my hands ..LOL nice job tho
Not a fan of Pink but I got to admit that berry pink with the black does look great. I am sure any lady that loves pink would love that. Since it is Pink and Black I wonder if Bret Hart would approved. Great Job.
I know you have answered so many questions. Can I PayPal you for an answer? Plan on doing this to my dull faded black miata. My question is. Since the paint is black should I prime the entire car to a lighter color then spray pink or just scuff up the existing black. Then proceed with the same method u took in this video?
Nevrlow If you wanna donate to help the channel I won’t say no. paypal.me/mooremotorsports To answer the question. You can just scuff up the black paint with 320 grit then paint the pink unless you want it a bright pink then you should primer it white and then go over the white with the pink. Now if you go over the black with the pink you might need a few coats to make it look good since the dark color under might bleed through a little. Hope that helps!
James D guy also if you wet the floor it will keep all that over spray from sticking to the floor and be able to sweep it out after . Will also help keep dust down .
It may not be “showroom quality” at a closer look, BUT with proper prep work, and a good environment, with LOTS of light sources, a pretty decent outcome will result. Auto body painting is 95% preparation and the spraying is the easier part.
This has inspired me to repaint my own car! Thanks for this video, I know my next project now. One question, if I want to go from red to army green, should I use a primer?
Congratulations, I have a CRV and anxious to do this!!! having trouble to find Rust Oleum paint here in Panama, can I use XO Rust 2 in 1 Paint? without Clear?

Dude you definitely know what your doing! Awesome job!
I foresee a ghost hunting/car painting spin-off series! 😂

Hell yeah team work !!!
Wow no lie. Best informative video out there! Love your vids man keep doing a good job
Nice work guys!
Another great job! I enjoy watching these videos.
Awesome job, I paint for a living and i want to try this just to say i can lol
AC Builds It Right that’s the only reason I did it haha
AC Builds It ok and I’m poor and have a family of 6
I know the feeling, thats why the paint is falling off my stuff, cant afford the paint lol
Couple hints.. make sure the paint cans are the same lot number and sand and prime any rust spots, sand again a wipe car down with acetone before painting . But all in al a really awesome paint job mention total number of paint and clear coat cans you used . And $$$ amout for this fabulous paint job. Thanks
Tham bro I just started watching but damm...bro awesome job ...
Looks great! But I’m wondering why you started from the bottom and go up i was taught do the edges and go from the top down so the overspray doesn’t cover what you already painted and also so you don’t get runs ? I’m not knocking you I’m just curious
jeremy rock I start from bottom to top so over spray falls into wet paint so it don’t have a rough feeling and texture
James D guy thanks I will have to try it next time I spray !
how much over spray did you get on that truck?? and how sore was your finger? lol...every time i paint with a can my fingers start hurting so bad i cant move my hands ..LOL nice job tho
Haarr because you are weak . 😂
@Big Boy yes. Why ?? 😂 scaring. Wow.. hahaha😂😂😂
Not a fan of Pink but I got to admit that berry pink with the black does look great. I am sure any lady that loves pink would love that. Since it is Pink and Black I wonder if Bret Hart would approved. Great Job.
Black and green on my corolla dx wagon two words for ya!!! Suck it!!😂
I paint in a shop but cant bring work in without my boss making me pay to rent the booth. I’ll probably try this, i just bought a $600 dollar accord
I know you have answered so many questions. Can I PayPal you for an answer? Plan on doing this to my dull faded black miata. My question is. Since the paint is black should I prime the entire car to a lighter color then spray pink or just scuff up the existing black. Then proceed with the same method u took in this video?
Nevrlow If you wanna donate to help the channel I won’t say no. paypal.me/mooremotorsports
To answer the question. You can just scuff up the black paint with 320 grit then paint the pink unless you want it a bright pink then you should primer it white and then go over the white with the pink. Now if you go over the black with the pink you might need a few coats to make it look good since the dark color under might bleed through a little. Hope that helps!
I wonder how that paint holds up though as far as scratches and chipping without the clear.. ive always had luck with the industrial grade rustoleum
Bryan Robinson Without the clear it does ok with scratches but highly recommend the 2k clear
@@JamesDguyDid you just use 1 can of 2k clear for the whole vehicle?
Pro painters tip . Do all flat surfaces first . Roof hood trunk etc .
EARDRUM ASSASSIN I usually do but I like to switch it up but thanks for the tip!
James D guy also if you wet the floor it will keep all that over spray from sticking to the floor and be able to sweep it out after . Will also help keep dust down .
Love the work your putting out man! I used that 2x paint on the s10 "crisp apple red" I believe, shit is great! Keep up the good work!
If i have a gun for painting can i use the 1qt closs rust oleum
It may not be “showroom quality” at a closer look, BUT with proper prep work, and a good environment, with LOTS of light sources, a pretty decent outcome will result.
Auto body painting is 95% preparation and the spraying is the easier part.
Hi. Can you mix enamel paint with 2k clear coat?
THANK YOU FOR TEACHING US HOW TO SPRAY PAINT IN A GOOD WAY...YOUR A GOOD MAN 👍
This has inspired me to repaint my own car! Thanks for this video, I know my next project now. One question, if I want to go from red to army green, should I use a primer?
Gary Epp I hardly ever use primer if it’s a 2 in 1 paint+primer but the results would come out even smoother
Congratulations, I have a CRV and anxious to do this!!! having trouble to find Rust Oleum paint here in Panama, can I use XO Rust 2 in 1 Paint? without Clear?
Ain't gonna lie that looks really good even without wet sand and buffing.
Russ Clarke It looks so much better after the wet sand and buff but to be honest it did look good without
