FYI. new mk8 golf R is no longer a haldex. It uses the rs3 awd system and in race modes it is full time awd. So it is only FWD with the ability in comfort and regular sport mode.
In the case of the WRX, definitely the manual. The new sport CVT is great for a CVT but not really intended for true performance like a dual clutch transmission, etc. Plus, if you are able, the manual will usually always deliver a much more fun and engaging driving experience than an automatic.
