When you guys do more of these it would be great to have clips of Ebbers making the stuff properly alongside the normals, so when they do something wrong we normals in the audience can see exactly what it is, e.g. when Barry put the sugar in too early Ben we could have then seen Ben showing us the right consistency for that part.

Your channel helped inspire me to enroll in culinary school after 7 years in the industry. Thank you guys and I hope to continue to see awesome content from you for the foreseeable future.
The whole episode was funny as expected but at every point during that meringue section I was losing it then that blooper with Mike at the end had me full on hollering *chefs kiss* perfection.
I'm actually really excited for this series, especially the part where they can earn a badge by incorporating a technique in a dish later. Let's see how this goes...
I think it's more that Barry has the most knowledge in abstract but not enough practice at most of it causing him to second-guess himself and panic, Jamie has the most consistent skill set but anything he doesn't use regularly makes him prone to rash decisions, and mike is somewhere between the two knowledge-wise, but is also the least likely to get worked up, unless it's like in this vid where it falls apart on him from the start or some of the battles where he is deliberately sabatoged.
@@PhilBoswell I think they were all at primary and/or high school together, so it’s likely their mums have all known the lads since they were kids... That’s why their banter is always so genuine and top notch... You can’t fake lifelong mates’ chemistry... :)
I think there should be a mortar and pestle challenge: pesto, thai chilli paste, spice mix. In each case it's both about the original mixture as well as how it works a dish that they use it in.
Also saw y'all's tweet about being unsure if the like a chef series would be brought back hope this comment counts a vote to bringing it up! I've only eaten pancakes every weekend since that video's been released! Would love to see more basic recipes on the channel again
I've only recently discovered this channel and have been binge watching whenever I get a chance. I must admit after watching this episode anytime I need to chop / prepare food all I hear in my head is Jamie's voice, "Don't get bored, don't get bored, I'm bored". 😂😂😂
Chef skill - save a dish. When making a sauce if you confuse an ingredient or make it too spicy, do they have the skills to rectify it? Or substitution - what to do when you realize that you do not have a key ingredient?
Flavour test: can they choose correct spices to make a delicious curry. Flavour pairings: can they make three sides to go with e.g spare ribs. Equipment badge: can they use a pasta roller etc. Food cultural badge: can they make a malaysian or Thai flavioured dish (no recipe). Pretentious badge: can they make a perfect main course with expensive ingredients.
Love the idea of this series! I’d like a follow up episode where the chefs go through these techniques themselves and show us how to do them correctly.
Might just focus on my knife skills badge first...:D I'm honestly surprised Mike didn't get any, I always think he has come on the most over the years. Barry is just teachers pet lol
Chef challenge: meat cooking precision. Each normal gets a single steak. Judge them on grill lines, how close they are to medium rare, and seasoning. Jamie will clearly have an edge from steak school but it would still be fun to see.
Legit one of your best series ideas yet. Been watching for at least 2 years and this is the first time I felt the need to comment. Keep it coming ya'll. Much love.

Absolutely shocked that Mike didn't get any badges, he consistently looked the most ''Chefy"", maybe even a mini-James.
Love the series.
I mean despite all the stuff he does, Barry has almos always been the most consistent with cooking techniques
“They love a bit of praise, don’t they?” - Benjamin David Ebbrell, 2021.
That’s such a South Asian Parent line lol
I dare say Mike had the best “nests” being as Jamie made hockey pucks and Barry made a volcano.
he still fucked up the technique and they still weren't nests
Jamie is lucky James wasn't there or he would have got a telling off for the egg white omelette suggestion again.
Would love to see "How to make a really delicious egg white omelette" for those of us who are told to cut down on yolk consumption.
Where is James these days?
@@nancylindsay4255 is anyone actually told to cut back on egg yolk nowadays by a reputable doctor?? There are so many nutrients in the yolk. It's a waste to not eat them. And eggs don't raise cholesterol. That's been disproven.
@@deprofundis3293 Yeah, my cardiology practitioner and her nutritionist do and they're with a highly reputed university medical center. But I'm familiar with what you're saying about dietary cholesterol. They are also VERY strict about sodium. I feel they're being overly cautious and are reluctant to back off of previous "truths." I just try to be good about dietary cholesterol and sodium -- not saintly! Jeeze, the guilt alone could kill a person!
I'm sure this episode will be calm and uneventful with absolutely no breakdowns...
You seem so sure 😂
It's good to have hope🤣
At first I read this as "This episode is perfectly balanced with no exploits."
Ben: Dice half an onion, thinly slice the other, jullian the carrot and make cucumber ribbons.
Me: Throws everything into the blender. Shef
I'm sooo rooting for Mike now. Remember guys, this guy beat a chef and made that tower of lasagna.
Most of the food these lads concoct is too sophisticated for my palate (which unlike the rest of me seems stuck at about age 7), however that lasagna did look amazing. 🍴
I am also rooting for Mike, who seems to be having a string of bad luck in these competition videos lately.
I feel like Mike is the one who prides himself most on understanding what the chefs say so it was his worst nightmare to fail the hardest
How Mike was so happy that he thought of the nozzle but the plastic covered it just killed me
This is why you guys have consistently been my favourite channel on UA-cam. Innovative, creative, and FUN. Well done, team!
Badge idea: Spice Blending
Knowing how to use different spices together like in curries which you guys do a lot of
When you guys do more of these it would be great to have clips of Ebbers making the stuff properly alongside the normals, so when they do something wrong we normals in the audience can see exactly what it is, e.g. when Barry put the sugar in too early Ben we could have then seen Ben showing us the right consistency for that part.
YES to this!!! Or even a separate video showing the proper skills along with the whys.
Yes! This could still be a follow up especially when the larger crew aren’t available.
It makes me sad when Mike doesn't get anything and he starts looking like hes down
Every chef is expected to know how to make a basic stock with no instructions or directions, at any quantity. I think it would be fun to have the boys try their hands at a chicken stock. Doesn't have to be a lot of stock. You could even have it be a small amount to make it a bit of challenge.
Oh I can’t wait to see the rest of this series, such a great way to asses how far they’ve come in 10+ years! Poor mike better get a badge next time, I’m rooting for you!!!
Also, a test I would love is to see a timing challenge where they need to bring multiple elements together at the same time.
Absolutely love this format but one change I'd make is before these challenges I'd really like to see Ben doing it and explaining what he expects to see them do. Like the skills test on Masterchef.
Ben should only show the audience
@@xionmemoria The boys wouldn’t see the demonstration
That would be great, just to have an expectation to compare to, because I never quite understood why Barry won the knife skills not to say he didn't though.
I really enjoy this format. I recently did my end of course survey for my culinary school and used this as an idea for the final class of the school.
I can already tell this series is going to be hilarious and informative at the same time 😂 It feels like a home economics exam
Thought they were gonna be crowned the "ultimate normal" then realised that was a backhanded compliment.
I'm Team Mike, I alway root for the Underdog. LET'S GO MIKE!
I love how Barry
A - Shows he really really understood what he's doing
B - still simply refuses to use a steaming bag
I'm actually really excited for this series, especially the part where they can earn a badge by incorporating a technique in a dish later. Let's see how this goes...
I feel like barry is the best chef. but his imagination exceeds his skill. Given trial attempts barry could be quite good
I think it's more that Barry has the most knowledge in abstract but not enough practice at most of it causing him to second-guess himself and panic, Jamie has the most consistent skill set but anything he doesn't use regularly makes him prone to rash decisions, and mike is somewhere between the two knowledge-wise, but is also the least likely to get worked up, unless it's like in this vid where it falls apart on him from the start or some of the battles where he is deliberately sabatoged.
Ben throwing out the "Your Mum" in less than two minutes. Roasted 😳
You know it 😂
I'd love to know whether Ben has ever met Jamie's mum, and what she'd say if they did 🤔
@@PhilBoswell probably, they’re all great friends
@@PhilBoswell I think they were all at primary and/or high school together, so it’s likely their mums have all known the lads since they were kids... That’s why their banter is always so genuine and top notch... You can’t fake lifelong mates’ chemistry... :)
I think there should be a mortar and pestle challenge: pesto, thai chilli paste, spice mix. In each case it's both about the original mixture as well as how it works a dish that they use it in.
Coming back to this one, after the challenge has finally ended, and seeing where it all began... The unintentional foreshadowing in this...
Ahw yiss! This series will help me recover when "Heel Holland Bakt" (Dutch version of The Great British Bakeoff) is done!
Oh my god, the blooper killed me. Mike reacted like he walked in on someone changing.
instead of Chef's jackets can the normals get "normal's sashes" to put their badges on XD
Chef scouts , if you will lol
Also saw y'all's tweet about being unsure if the like a chef series would be brought back hope this comment counts a vote to bringing it up! I've only eaten pancakes every weekend since that video's been released! Would love to see more basic recipes on the channel again
This is brilliant. I'm so excited to see how the boys do. Hang in there, Mike!
I've only recently discovered this channel and have been binge watching whenever I get a chance. I must admit after watching this episode anytime I need to chop / prepare food all I hear in my head is Jamie's voice, "Don't get bored, don't get bored, I'm bored". 😂😂😂
When nobody gets it right, I think it would be fun to see Ben make the example, like the meringue, not just the end product.
"What the f*ck was that?" is the most sincere react video to Barry getting creative in the kitchen. xD
Nice little Monty Python reference there with the “HHHWAFERTHIN”, Ebbers.
This has me more excited than ultimate battle - the hype is seriously real, and already calling it #teamspaff
What a sneaky way to bring the brownie points back. I like it.
why does this feel like the final episode of a series..... im getting emotional
TECHNICAL FINALE: Swedish Princess Cake!!!!
And by the by, so, so, so very psyched to see the challenges as you post them!
Love the idea of this series! I’d like a follow up episode where the chefs go through these techniques themselves and show us how to do them correctly.
How about the “differentiate a corgette from an aubergine” badge since they've confuse the two once, no?
And mushroom vs tomato (bonus one for Mike)
A-Z of veg & fruit would be fun!
Lemons and oranges for Jamie (for that one "lemony" pass it on xD)
Tofu and cheese for jamie 😌
I'm not gonna get bored, I'm not gonna get bored, oh I got bored, Oh Jamie, what a genius
It's not just a mood, it's a lifestyle ❤
Might just focus on my knife skills badge first...:D I'm honestly surprised Mike didn't get any, I always think he has come on the most over the years. Barry is just teachers pet lol
What this video really needed is a chef showing the proper way to do it afterwards.
JUST STARTED WATCHING YOUR SHOW ABSOLUTELY FUN,ENTERTAINING I CAN'T GET ENOUGH...
Loving this new challenge. How about a pro version for James and Ben?
Yesssssssssss!!!! This is gonna be great....and hopefully hilarious!!!
I’m already sooo excited about this series!!!! Kudos to you all for the original ideas!!
Much love.
