This is such great proof that being truly authentic and super niche can actually be successful. Be grateful for your level of blessings and you'll understand it to be the superlative.
The only thing I hate about most African American restaurant owners is how preachy they get. It’s like they’re trying to prove something. Must be an insecurity. They feel they don’t measure up. Just cook your delicious food and that’s it. I don’t care about your struggle. We all have struggles, I don’t preach mine…
Stop calling it "soul food". Frying chicken, baking meats, boiling rice and vegetables, making desserts, and drinking lemonade isn't "soul food". It's just foods that's been eaten in the South. Foods that were brought over and prepared by Europeans until some Europeans became wealthy to have "help" that the Europeans taught to make their breakfast, lunch, and dinners. Putting random items on a plate and slapping a made up name to it is silly and disrespectful!
@spankbuda3769 you have no idea what you are talking about. The recipes, prep, flavors, seasoning/spuce method of cooking these foods(especially collard greens) had nothing to do with Europeans🙄. The style and flavors could not be any diffrent.
When she said her grandmother was feeding everyone that hit me because that’s how my grandmother is always feeding everyone although she’s at the age she can’t do it no more and my mom did the same….wanna feed everyone, this woman is a gem she knows what’s up
Shaw-nae personality is so beautiful and charming I can feel it through this video, I'm one borough away and I will be going there and enjoying her wonderful dishes
I was fascinated by the rich history of your family in Staten Island- this needs to be in a book. The Black New Yorkers- will stop by the restaurant when I am in NYC.
Grandma is with you in spirit everyday❤❤ I'm proud of you and can't wait to visit your restaurant. I'm a foodie, and you are definitely on my bucket list!! Stay blessed❤❤❤
Iam jus happy to see black owned restaurants getting the proper recognition that's major and her food looks soooooooooo scrumptious 10 outta 10 I can't wait to visit so stopping to show big love I love soul food and that's food for the soul 🔥🔥🔥🔥🤎🤎🤎🤎🤎🤎🤎🤎🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🤎🤎🤎
I love seeing people in their element. You can see her confidence in every word and move that she makes in her kitchen, all while not losing her passion, and I think that's a very beautiful thing to see. I hope we have more restaurant owners like her. Wishing Shaw-naé and her husband more success, luck, and prosperity!
It has taken a long time for our family’s soul food history, to be appreciated by the larger culture. I remember when we moved to the newer suburbs, in the 1970’s, we could not find collards, mustards, collards greens, salt pork, neck bones, ham-hocks, or oxtails, in the grocery stores. We had to go back to the city or inner suburbs to get those ingredients.
This place looks amazing! Next trip to NYC im making a special trip to this place. She seems so authentic, like her food…I would like BA to do another special on soul food!
Sending unconditional love and infinite compassion to you. thank you for making your delicious soul food and thank you for making this video. feeding the people is one of the greatest honors :)
Ms. Shaw-nae' your food made my mouth water. Thank you for expanding the soul food recipes you were taught so that the next generation has a solid foundation upon which to paint their new canvas. Mr. Dixon, you are the foundation of an incredible base for your wife and our culture to soar.
Wow I'm in heaven, I just happened to stumble upon this and I was so amazed, this look better than Sylvia's and that's what I'm used to going on 125th Street in Harlem to Sylvia's for years and years and now I'm taking a back to this . wow

I enjoyed this so much. As someone that’s looking to open the restaurant in the near future, I was beyond inspired and smiled the entire time. I definitely plan on visiting. Congratulations on the success and I pray your ancestors continue to surround you and uplift you.

Love you too Sis!😂❤ It definitely feels like I was at your house, and although I didn't get a bite to eat, I still got fed. Blessings to you and your family. And continued success as you share your love and legacy.🙏🏾✊🏾
The soul, gratitude, history, love, and intentionality are evident! My favorite part is when she paid homage to her grandmother, changed her shoes, let down her hair, and TOOK A BREAK. I almost teared up. Black women, we can pursue our passions, love well, AND schedule rest ❤
Don’t you just love when the owner has a great personality! 👏🏾✊🏾
