It would have been really great to see you pick up finished blanket and just show it what’s so hard about it?I know why, because you didn’t make it right and the part you do show is just kind of ok looking I can do better I’m sure
@@Pattys1967 it would be really great if you had anything else to do than be miserable in the comments on UA-cam. You can see her step by step making the blanket and she clearly explains how she does it. You can get the idea of how the finished product would look off of what she worked on in the video, also nothing hand made will be perfect. I don’t understand the reason for such a nasty comment. Yes it would be nice if she would hold the blanket up when she’s finished but honestly how many other tutorials do? Very few that I’ve seen. If you can do better please do I will subscribe and will be waiting for your upload! LOL you’re a nasty rotten patty
Let’s all pass around the PEACE ☮️ PIPE! Lol 😂
@@Pattys1967. if you already know how to make it, why are you watching a tutorial?! So rude!
this is how my grandmother taught me how to crochet when i was 5, I had difficulty with my vision at that time and using a crochet hook was too difficult....btw i am 65 now.
Tosca Tattertail I love this! ❤️

Hey everyone, the finished blanket measures 59"L by 37"W. Hope you enjoy this tutorial!
I am just beginning to learn crochet your videos really help! I may post a video my first project.
Is this Blanket or Afghan size? Must be Afghan sized.
Simply Maggie thank you! Came to the comments to look for just that!
Thank you! Your video is great. You really explained the process well.
If I want to make a blanket 30" W x 35" L, how many skeins will I need?
Thanks for this tutorial, I was able to make a blanket to honour my mother that passed away nearly a year ago with the wool she had in her wool box … I had never crocheted before … you filled me with confidence and courage… many thanks Maggie
Awe your comment is so touching and familiar. I found a love for this craft bc of my late Mom. I too found hers and seeing some of her unfinished products (she passed unexpectedly)... Made me want to help make her a more proud of me and probably presently surprised that I took a quick and quite fun new hobby🥲. May God bless you and yours THIS Mother's Day & ALWAYS... I hope you'll forever keep your Mom's honor, spirit and life alive and well within your own creative sprinkling of sunshine upon your home and others'. ☀️💕🙏
I tried this and it actually took me 10 hours (2 days) to complete. I can’t imagine someone being able to finish this in an hour and I’m a fast Crochetier. The throw came out beautifully at 64x46 inches. Thank you for this tutorial bc even though it took me longer, I still had a whole finished piece in 2 days which is awesome 👏🏽
How many balls of yarn did it take? I bought 12 108 yard balls and I'll be lucky to have a very thick baby blanket :/ nice, but not the cozy throw I was trying to make for my mom's birthday.
@@carlavaneeden8383 can you please tell me the thickness of this yarn?
@@carlavaneeden8383 her description links a blog post - 12 skeins of 212yd yarn 😦
I very much agree on this. No way anyone can do this in one hour but still a great tutorial. Finished it in roughly the same time as you
To use 12 is alot of money....I wonder if a thicker yarn could be used instead?
It's 2am, I have no way to leave the house and buy yarn to try this but I'm mesmerized by this magical work and how it's coming around!
Girl... You rock!
If you have some old sheets or a lot of old tshirts you can cut them in strips an connect them to make "yarn" i did this and i use it as a bathroom rug. There are tutorials on how to connect the strips of fabric. (Rag rug)
Joann's, Walmart, and Michaels all have online ordering. Plus I get my yarn from Amazon & even Wish! Just a thought... :)
@@jackwick82 thanks for the idea of bathroom rug!
Hello friend.... How are you doing?
@@jackwick82 I was thinking the same thing when
I saw your comment l will do same later

Maggie, You need to show the finished blanket at the end for AT LEAST 20 seconds (on bed, on sofa, around shoulders etc) so we can appreciate and feel satisfaction - we did it with you! Many viewers will never make this in reality (I won't) but we've made it virtually so we NEED to see finished product for longer. Thank you 😌
I agree with you, I couldn't wait to see the finished blanket in full!
@@dilemmix Me too :)!
I agree pls do that
Agree with viewing the finished work longer..
It's on her blog and the link is in the description to this video.
I’m so glad this isn’t one of those videos showing people arm knitting or hand knitting using roving. This should actually hold up! Roving, however, will fall apart within days.
What's roving?
@@crickittorres8077 Roving is washed, combed material that hasn't been spun into yarn.
Yeah, roving is like making a blanket from cotton candy.
Girl it’s midnight and I just spent 50$ on yarn😂
Lmao lmao I can relate so hard
I spent more. Accidentally made my blanket huge and have now used over $70 worth of yarn and I still have half left to go!
I'm bout to do the same !! Yasssss 🙌😍
n00b
Lol... I love it
I love that you can buy regular yarn but triple it up to get that "chunky" look. I'll have to see if my cats will let me try this...😂
I am trying it and had to lock myself in a separate place to do it! Good luck!
No, they won't. Bribe them with food and shut the door while they are distracted! ;)
My cats are enthralled with my yarn.
@@phylismaddox4880 that's what I do too. Until they realize I'm doing something so they been trying to dig a hole under my door 😂
My cat clawed my leg on the first try! I had to put her outside for a while.
13:08 shows a tip on making sure you don’t miss the last stitch on each row 👌🏻
@Maggie 17:00 a few seconds before and after the part you are working on is off camera, can't see what you did,, Found you while looking at other vid's
Have been trying to rewatch this many times. My edges keep sloping, I've had to take my blanket apart 4 times 😞😞 I've been working on it for 7 days. Any tips on how to not have a sloped edge would be great! Basically it's like every row I do is one stitch shorter than the one before but I have nothing else to grab on to .. ???
Thank you so much, Maggie! ❤️ I used your tutorial to learn how to make throw blankets for Christmas gifts this year. I used to buy the super chunky yarn, but this is such a good hack to just triple regular chunky yarn to achieve thickness and I like the classic look of it very much. Thanks for explaining everything so clearly! ☺️
With my 7 and 9 year old grandchildren, I made this for my mom for Christmas. Thank you for the outstanding tutorial. We're very pleased with the result. 🎄 We'll be making more!
It was a recommended video for me even though I don't think I've ever watched a knitting vid before. Hope that helps. And you explain so very well!
I love how you explained it so simple and slow. Looks like something I want to try soon
ME TOO !
She did show look at the beginning look at the top right corner.
Just found your channel yesterday I think and wow! You are such an amazing teacher, your explanation is so clear and the way you show your method multiple times in a row while explaining verbally is more than anyone could ask for I would imagine. Thank you for being so wonderful.
I've never crocheted but after watching this video I can't wait to buy yarn and try it!
Thank you so much - your directions were very clear.
You do a good job explaining and demonstrating on camera. This project looks fun and relaxing. Thanks.
Hey Maggie, this tutorial is AWESOME! I love the simple and clear instructions, tips as well as your relaxed style. I am a beginner at crocheting and you make finger crochet simple enough that anyone can do it- thank you so much! Also that you care so much about reading comments and listening to your viewers, keep up the great work! :)
I am just so grateful. All these years I've been trying to find a hobby I can do and lack the talent in my opinion. Your video was so easy to follow along. My first try I made one mistake and had to restart but after carefully watching, I caught the error. I'm almost done with my first blanket thanks to you. Ask inspired to see some of your other videos!! Thank you so much
Oh I'm so grateful for your detailed explanations of what your doing and why. I appreciate it so much. 🥰 This will help me with my regular crocheting.
Hi! I recently was gifted some normal size 4 yarn by a friend who needed to move back home and I don’t have a crochet hook. I was looking on Pinterest for hand crocheting patterns but I don’t really understand the written patterns so I searched for it here and found you.
Although I was only using size 4 yarn, and I didn’t double up or anything, watching this video made it SUPER easy to follow along because your movements were so much bigger than mine. I did a 15x16 square and think I’m going to try using it as a wash cloth for my kids in the bath or something.
Obviously it will be easier to crochet when I’ve bought a hook but I’m pretty proud of what I’ve done by following this video.
Thank you so much!!!
I just discovered your videos Maggie. I just started back into crocheting. I love this hand crochet technique! Can’t wait to do my first blanket this way.
Thank you so much for this. I first learned to crochet when I was in middle school buy never went anywhere with it beyond turning a skein of yarn into a ball of single chains. I wanted to fo more buy never learned. After watching this video I have successfully made a blanket out of the barnet extra blanket yarn which is super soft and fuzzy. My kids all fight over it so I now need to make 3 more. I also plan on making a blanket for a friend to give her as a wedding gift along with a cute crochet bag after watching your other video. I am so happy and pleased that I was able to make something. I now have a hobby. I finally have a hobby. Thank you so much!!!
Wow, this is an insanely helpful tutorial! Thank you so much!!!! I feel like I can definitely do this, you made it look so easy!!
You just showed up on my feed and I’m so glad because this looks like something I could actually do and enjoy 😉
Hello friend.... How are you doing?
I have never knitted, nor crocheted 🧶 this vid just popped up on my recommended. I decided to watch it and see if it’s something I could do. ☺️
I’ve never tried this type of knitting before today. Watched ur video & am amazed by this! Can’t wait to try this. Thank you so much for this step by step, instructional video. 💕
Great tutorial. So calm and clear. Excited to have a go and pass these great skills onto my lovely daughters. Thanks Maggie 🥰
Finally someone who explains it nice and slowly yaaay!! THANKYOU!!💜🌠⭐
UA-cam suggested this video and I'm so glad they did! My last attempt at blanket was a big fail. Your instructions were so helpful and detailed. This allowed me to make a tight chunky blanket. Thank you very much!
I was just going through lots of videos & found this. I recently got enough yarn to make this one. You are so easy to follow & have such a soothing voice. Thank you!
I'm 8 rows into my blankie and I'm so proud of myself the more I add another row!! I found you because i was looking at how to make a dit trophy and that let me to yours and It was hand knit and thought I dnt need the needles and just need yarn. Ended up buying an acrylic one but It's still warm when it's on me and machine washable. Can't wait to finish three years later 😋
What a wonderful tutorial. I am hoping I can use it to teach my 12 year old granddaughter who wants to learn to crochet. Your instructions are so easy to follow and thank goodness for the ability to rewind the video. I am excited to see my completed blanket.
This was such a wonderfully detailed instructional video, but I would’ve loved to see a picture of the final product.
There is a picture at the end😊
33 seconds into the video
There's barely a second to see the whole blanket. Should have been held up or displayed properly, and finished measurements in the description. Great, close-up instruction though.
Yes we need more time and closer look to admire her beautiful blanket.
Same. So frustrating. Was it small maybe.
Finally I understand what is being done, I have watched many crochet videos but by you using your fingers you can really see what thread you are moving. Thanks for sharing 😊
Your instructions and video of your explanations are very well done!!! I am just finishing up the 'chunky' blanket by hand so now I am going to have to try hand crochet! Thank you!
This was so helpful! I managed to make a lap-blanket for my mom. I used a very different yarn so I did two instead of three strands but the outcome was just impeccable!
Thank you so much for the tutorial! It was greatly explained and I've already completed two! I wish I could post them here to show you. I made one just the same way you did than I bought chunky yarn and did two strands and made it twice the size! It's huge! Thank you so much and keep up the great work!
I love the way you teach! It's so caring and detailed. Thanks for sharing it!
Thank you for showing me how to make a blanket. I just finished making my first blanket following your instructions and it came out amazing. I’m going to give it to my friend for her baby shower. Thank you!
Bonjour ! How wonderful !
Now I want to do it as well , ! Thank you Maggie, you are inspiring and Soo gifted 🥰
I’m making one right now! Wish me luck!
Edit- I finished! It’s white and fluffy. It’s a smaller one but it’s ssoooooooooo soft! Love this DIY!
You are such a fantastic teacher! It takes a lot for me to actually understand and work along with someone but I’m doing it! Thank you!
What a lovely instructor. By far the best to explain I've found. Thank you wonderful woman ❤
I love the color of the yarn you're using. Also, your instructions are so clear, unlike a lot of other videos that I can't keep up with, or they don't show the holes up close, so I get lost. Thank you!!! I love this. I am going to try it with 3 different colors. It will all blend in and make a beautiful blanket. Again, thank you!!
Maggie I can not thank you enough for doing this video! I've always wanted to learn how to crochet sense I was little. My mom had a very hard time teaching me because she would go too fast out of habit and I just couldn't catch on.
You video clicked in my head fir the first time in my life! And now as you are going through the motions I can see my mother doing the motions in my head as if she is crocheting in front of me!! Just had to share that with you! So thank you for doing this video along with bringing back and amazing memory of my childhood! I served in Afghanistan and during my tour my living quarters were destroyed by a rocket. I received a blast injury to my brain and I've had troubles with remembering a lot of my past. You brought a great gift back to me so thank you! And keep doing your videos you have a new permanent subscriber!!!
Penny Witt thank you so much for sharing this 🥰 I’m so happy youtube sent my video your way. 👏🏻
Penny Witt your story is very inspiring. Thank you for sharing. You must be a very strong women to have gone through something so hard but still have such a great positive attitude about life. I strive to be a more positive person and struggle daily to have a more positive attitude about life and especially the future and just reading that small glimpse into your life has helped me already. This is so cool - sorcery! I've been crocheting for years and never knew finger crocheting was a thing! a whole new world opened 🤯 This video was super easy to follow! thank you!!
This is so nice, I love this kind of handcrafts. I'll try soon. Thansk a lot!
I'm so happy I found you! My Mom used to crochet she taught me. But it was a very long time ago. I have been thinking about learning again. This looks fun and easy! Thank you, Maggie!
Say a prayer that I am able to do this. Paid a RIDICULOUS amount of money at Hobby Lobby. Got 4 lg skeins of very thick yarn. If I can’t get through one skein I’m taking it back. I’ve watched many many videos of others and yours is very basic and I can see what you are doing. If I start tomorrow do you think I can get it finished before Christmas??!! That’s a very serious question!!!!
Merry Christmas to you and yours and may the New Year bring you all wonderful things
Hello friend.... How are you doing?
Maggie YOU mam are simply the BEST teacher for THIS. You explain everything so calmly and easily to comprehend for the newbies like myself... I'm happy to have subscribed and am making one today... Getting my yarns out now and keeping this video by my side lol. Now I'll try THIS first bc the arm knitting one appears that I'm gonna need to call the fire department to help me unravel MYSELF before I cut my circulation off and there's a chance they'd think I tried to fake my own kidnapping bc THAT would MY luck one day whenever I'm a master finger knitter, I'll be sure to try the arm knitting. I'll be sure to invite a friend over to learn with me so we're able to save each other and set ourselves free if need be. I love your channel and if you can teach a simple way to make a crochet hand bag the same way and/or a tank or swimsuit cover up to match the bag that would be awesome. Been wanting a crochet bag for a while but rather make it than buy it. Thanks AGAIN for your great and easy to follow steps. I'm so thrilled I found your channel. You're not just simply Maggie tho... simply magical Maggie is more suiting. Best of luck on your work and all your future ventures and success!!! You have a gift. Very kind of you to share it with US. Much love from small town Texas♥️☀️🥰
Excellent teaching! Slow, up close, and repeated several times! Very well done! Thank you, can’t wait to make for my babe ❤️

Did this. It was super quick, because your video was so easy to follow. I made mine larger, a 5 x 5ft to be exact. Im also adding a lining. Thanks
how many chains and rows did you do?
This is really awesone! I tried taking up crochet again in 2013 only to discover my hands fall asleep. So I wud make 10 stitches then wait 20 min, 10 stitches, wait 20. Needless to say I finished that project and said never again. Now that I see I don't have to hold a tiny needle this project should be possible! GREAT JOB! THANKS
Same here. I gave it the good old college try, but my fingers and wrist tapped out. In the middle, I end up using a jumbo crochet hook to complete this beautiful project.

Julee Christensen that’s so great! And yes, if using less strands you could fit more on your fingers to create different stitches! I’ll have more videos on this soon.
I taught myself how to simple crochet with my fingers as a small child. Until this year I didn't know that it was something that others did or was viable to make something. So thanks, and you're consistent with it and explaining it. Nice. So Thanks for sharing.
