    I came across your channel. Are you guys from USA? In Laos, they build houses with din chi or din bok. I heard you mentioning drywall like the US. Did you build yours with drywall?

      Good observation! I may have mis-stated. We used Gypsum board for the ceiling, and standard concrete block (din bok) for the walls, with a special heat shield cooling paint for the exterior and interior. The drywall I mentioned was used for the ceiling.

    How much did you purchase the land for and how many acres ? How do you get water and electricity ?

    • @retire_recharge_roam
      @retire_recharge_roam  2 місяці тому

      Size of land is about 1.5 hectares. Prices for land now are all over…depends on location, proximity to utilities/roads, etc…
      We have a well for water, and electricity is run from the nearest main road.

      There are paths for all budgets…ours was on the lower end, but took tons of time buying our own materials and managing the build!

      Hi there. Size of land is about 1.5 hectares, and original asking price ~10 years ago was about $35K USD. Prices for land now are all over…depends on location, proximity to utilities/roads, etc…

    I heard rumors that Foreigners can’t buy land and properties in Laos. Please advise..

    • @retire_recharge_roam
      @retire_recharge_roam  7 місяців тому

      I’m not an expert in real estate, but I think there are provisions for “owning” condos under long term leases that are granted. As far as I know, Private land ownership is not allowed for foreigners…needs to be registered under a Lao citizen’s name.

    How is the mosquito situation? Any other bugs, reptiles and snakes in your area?

    • @retire_recharge_roam
      @retire_recharge_roam  7 місяців тому +1

      Mosquitos can be a nuisance at dawn and dusk, but I’ve been in areas of the States that seem far worse. Lots of tree frogs, red-headed lizards, geckos. Have seen the occasional tree snake in the bamboo. We did have an encounter with a cobra recently that was startling…but I don’t expect we’ll see one again. We came across a centipede one evening in a neighboring village.
      Oh, and flying termites closer to rainy season are pretty weird!

    I’ve just qualified for federal employee minimum retirement age this year, my second retirement, I’m already retired from the US Army back in 2005. Now I just have to convince my wife that it’s ok for us to move back to Laos!

      @@retire_recharge_roam We’re planning to visit this October, it’s going to be our second visit since we left Laos. As for above comments, wife and I had discussed about moving back to Laos when we retire but she seems not convincing yet.
