Sifu is living, breathing proof as to why I'll forever advocate shorter games with memorable, tailored experiences that I can replay whenever I want to just like a movie. That's why I miss the days when we still got games like Max Payne 3, The Darkness 2, Spec Ops: The Line, and so on.

@@cactusmalone , I love cinematic games, too. And I do think that gaming should never be categorized as just for the cinematic ones or the ones that play like DOOM or others more akin to the classics. We should all be free to enjoy either or both. A matter of taste. However, I digress. There's always valid criticism to be had for any and all genres of games when they either delve too deep into something that they forget the very nature of what they are... to be a form of entertainment/art first and foremost... or become overly reliant on an established system from others that came before.

Absolutely love the game. Was worried that maybe the fighting wouldn’t be as fluid or as easy as the trailers showed off, which at first was true, but after much time playing it got easier to understand what I was doing wrong and I fell in love with it. It’s so pleasing to clear a room of bad guys with that multiplier going up. Like you said, I can’t wait to see what the developers do next, but personally I’m very satisfied with my purchase and already recommending to others. Now I’m repeating the levels to see what the lowest age I can get after beating the game twice. Great replay value I.M.O.

I think Sifu is like Sekiro meets Sleeping Dogs, but it’s also way harder than either of those games. Enemies don’t don’t telegraph anything, and you’re given as much time to react to unblockables as you are everything else. Enemy attack patterns can sometimes feel pretty spontaneous too, so you can’t always predict when in the chain they’re coming. I’m not sure I can beat this one.

    • @linhza501

@@linhza501 sorry, I should say there isn’t much of a Telegraph. By comparison, Sekiro’s telegraphs are eternal and unmistakable, and by the metrics of many, it’s one of the hardest games ever (I wouldn’t go that far though).

Definitely a challenge, but the way it makes me feel when I top a level or destroy a boss at age 20 after they kicked my butt is amazing. Been searching for a game that intrigues me for years. Sifu finally scratched that endless itch, and sloclap has set a good standard in my mind. I hope they add to this game, but take their time. Maybe an endless mode, some more story dlc, or even costumes. The sky's the limit, and i'm keeping an eye out for what's next. Hands down favorite part of the game is the "OldBoy" hallway scene reference in level one. Didn't know it was there but as soon as the camera switched views i geeked out, and proceeded to kick everyone's ass

  • @OldFluffyBeggar
    @OldFluffyBeggar 2 роки тому +16

So, this is perhaps my game of the year. It was just so fantastic from top to bottom and I agree, the camera is absolutely tragic. So many deaths were because I couldn't see what was happening. However, that's not enough of a complaint for me to really take away from the game. My favorite part was the final boss, as I loved how he was designed to truly test your mastery of the game. It excels at everything it does and these are the types of games and companies that deserve the kind of money Triple A titles make. This is where the true art, love, and dedication is applied. I enjoyed it so damn much and want to support the company, so ill probably buy it on PS4 as well.
I knew this game was gonna be great, but it definitely exceeded my expectations.
9.5/10 game for me, hands down. Not perfect, but so nearly there.
I hope they don't just leave it here and we get a series. Doesn't have to be sequels necessarily, but at least more games that are set in the same kind of world where they build on all the aspects of this game that made it truly fantastic and unforgettable.

The thing about Sifu that constantly impresses me is that the theme is constant throughout. Sifu means 'master', and master is the word that rang through my head my entire playthrough. As a verb, as a noun, as a method, as a reminder, as a theme, the word sifu has infinite applications in this game.
You start as a student learning to master his fighting style and learning new moves. Once you've beat your first playthrough, you've mastered the flow of the game. Now you have to master each individual enemies attack patterns. Then you have to master which moves give you the upper hand against certain encounters. Throughout this process, you're still mastering your abilities and permanently unlocking them. By the third playthrough, you're a complete demon, stomping through the easier fights with no problems, destroying the bigger threats with efficiency and tried and true methods. By the time you reach Yang the third time, he's the only true threat that remains in the entire game. Even the other bosses (except that museum slag) are fodder.
This game is a game all about mastery of the game. There is nonway to accomplish a ton of the objectives without being indisputably phenomenal at the games mechanics. Not many games insist that you learn to utterly dominate them before you can even attempt the true challenge of the game, winning with mercy.
Don't even get me started on arenas, I still only have like 3/4 of the gold stamps and every time i got another, it takes me MASTERING the layout of each arena to get kills or score in the most efficoent way possible. No game comes close to evoling this sense of domination outside of maybe the souls series, but even that isn't streamlined, so every player learns to dominate that game in their own way.
Beautiful game, with developers that understood their theme and shot it to the moon with their dedication.

Once I figured out that replaying levels is the ticket to maximizing permanent moves/getting out with a low age, it really nullified the frustration factor. I was getting pissed at the low sweep spamming hos and the 2nd boss but it's all about repetition, repetition, repetition. Just like martial arts; muscle memory is king. I haven't beaten it yet, haven't even beaten the 3rd boss. I'm taking my time, learning the patterns, restarting the level when I want, etc. It really is weird how this repeating is still fun and rewarding, trying to beat my previous best and escape without a death while also building enough XP to buy a move permanently.
Highly recommended game for kung fu/fighting game/challenging game lovers.

Grew up watching Jackie Chan movies non stop and this game is exactly like a movie from the kung fu master with all the amazing fight moves plus the use of the environment to your advantage. And there is the classic revenge tale of your sifu getting killed with a modern take. It also has the brutality of a Donnie Yen movie like Ip Man or Flashpoint plus the gameplay reminds me a lot of Rise To Honor with Jet Li that I played on the PS2 religiously as you can take out multiple enemies from all angles. Then of course there is Sleeping Dogs with the violent takedowns, I mean damn...it is all my favorite things in one, the Hong Kong cinema style action, inspirations from my favorite films and games and of course the gameplay is just extremely smooth and fun. Though I am with you, it is very difficult at first!

Sifu is exactly the kind of game I wish more people would make: It does one thing and it does it well. There aren't a million side quests and stupid little time trials or throwaway puzzles. And every inch of every level is FUN. There's no 5 minute car or horse ride to the fun part of the game. There's no long sequences of pushing forward on the joystick even though nothing is really happening on screen. Like I am happy to play the same 20 minute level over and over again if every single minute of that level is fun.
God I wish they made more games like this.

I totally agree with what you said about this game in regard to replayability. It reminds me a lot of any action game like DMC or Bayo in that while the games are only 6-8 hours long, they're meant to be played multiple times to achieve an S rank or pure platinum trophy. I've got 6 hours clock in on Sifu now and I'm still on the club level. It's not because I'm doing bad, but because I want to get through the level flawlessly. Although, Sean's been destroying everytime I get to him lol

beginning had me nearly in tears as well, so superb! Also the fact I bought it AFTER they added the easy mode, which as a game pro is how I start out ALL my new purchases. Made it so that I had one of the best first playthroughs EVER! So anyone who hates on the devs for making that LEVEL needs to understand some basics about what I just shared!

Follow up, I know not everyone likes difficulty, but I think for a game that's trying to pay homage to martial arts it makes sense that you can't just jump in and say "I know Kung Fu". Mastering a martial art is a long journey and it's cool to see that challenge reflected (and dumbed down) in a game.

I wasn't aware of that actually. But, I Googled it and Easy Mode is going to be a thing along with an even higher difficulty mode. As an update, I broke down and bought the game. One thing I love about the game is that it’s learning curve is smooth and seemless . For example: in the club directly outside the main boss there is two mini-bosses that are absolutely insane. But after playing the level multiple times i beat them and not only felt satisfied but I could not imagine not beating them with ease after a couple runs. I feel like it’s a hard game, but whenever you redo a level you always get a younger age. Idk it might just be me.

I will say to anyone who got to the last boss and thought "This is BS how am I supposed to beat this?" Keep going you will learn to deal with him piece by piece and when it clicks you feel like Neo from the Matrix. It's an awesome feeling.

Don't know if I'll be able to enjoy this game though if it's as hard as you say. Not really what I was looking for and I do have some silent rage that would probably be best kept in its cage lol. It's an amazing game. So many of the big fighting game franchises seem to have lost that connection between the controller and the fight on the screen, but Sifu absolutely nails it.
