They cut all these GREAT game studios and then the Xbox showcase has COD as their “big” showcase. I do not understand Microsoft at this point.
Because that and halo is all they have
@@ChaosDragon377And Bethesda’s games
Cod sells. It makes money. The only thing Microsoft cares about, the actual single reason for their being, is to make money. It's not hard. Dishourned 2 released Oct. 6 2007. Prey May 5 2017. Hi Fi Rush released last year but the studio lead left and half the staff followed him to his new studio. If a studio does not generate a profit for a DECADE how long do you expect a corporate overlord to hang onto them?! No one likes seeing people get laid off but how can anyone be suprised?
@@txflood2519 Blame Zenimax then, as they forced Arkane to make a live service co-op looter shooter game. They should've focused on a new Dishonored or Prey instead.
@@txflood2519 Dishonored 2 released in 2016
Tragic to see tango closed. I played their whole portfolio of games and Evil Within was such a unique resident evil alternative.
everything Microsoft buys it ruins and then kills
Just to point point out, Evil within while having a cult following, the sequel sold incredibly bad. Less than a million copies. I think most would be extremely skeptical to fund a third one
@@Mmachine88 Okay but that was 2017 and Microsoft bought them in 2021. This isn't brand new news to them. Nobody expected Tango to be popping out massively popular games but they were releasing solid, interesting, albeit niche games with a dedicated fanbase. Tango is basically one of those studios that should operate like Blumhouse movies.
@@amarntsitran3406 To clearify, MS/ Xbox bought Zenimax Bethesda. They did not singley buy Tango Games.
It would be a very different thing if Tango was in fact an independent studio that MS aquired.
But that's just the thing though, people right now online are for some reason acting as if Hi-Fi was this big success and it just wasn't.
Don't get me wrong I 100% would have rathered Xbox figure something out to keep them alive even if it meant they cut some folks and we're a smaller scaled studio and focused on smaller games like Hi-Fi and we're able to make them on some kind of budget that wasn't a big loss even if it didn't sell great. I get it. It sucks. It blows. I'm just trying explain why maybe it happened. That's all. I don't know man
I'm pissed I really wanted evil within 3!

The Tango closure was so messed up. Hi Fi Rush was awesome
everything Microsoft buys it ruins and then kills
So much of it is in bad taste. Having a sale for the game effectively end THEN renewed with another sale after the news breaks.
Like why tf would anybody want to give them money knowing Tango won't see any of it?
Then Matt Booty doubles down in a meeting today and says we need more games like Hi Fi Rush. Get FUCKED. That made me sick to my stomach.
Tbf the Studio Lead left last year.
A lot of his team ended up following him.
The closure of Tango is honestly just in name alone.
No point in seeing a Redfall type game come out of "Tango Studios" (intentional quotes)
So we're the evil withing games and ghost wire Tokyo, hi fi rush wasn't the only game they made.
@@coreyhansen9711 Doesn't it mean that Microsoft owns the titles of Tango Gameworks? Ifo so, I am saddened that we might not see another The Evil Within Game. MS could make another TEW game under a different studio name though, if they own the title.
It’s wild that Hellblade 2 comes out in 2 weeks and there has been zero marketing from Xbox
I honestly keep forgetting about it. I'm gonna play it, but yeah the marketing is non existent
If I were cynical, I'd say they don't want to bring too much attention to a studio that's on the chopping block...
It's like they are deliberately tanking small devs so the can just liquidate the assets, and it's a tax write off.
Dude I know
They actually did some marketing for Hellblade 2 recently and it was just a garbage post. Its like the Xbox division cut their marketing team too.
Evil Within 1 and 2 were so damn underrated 😢
I know I literally still play through both once a year
I was looking forward to a 3rd.
Especially 2
It was literally my Silent Hill, I love those games so much.
Fun fact about arkane Austin, 70% of preys development team had left during the development of redfall. Development hell.
Evil Within 3 could’ve been so great 😢
The worst aspect at least on the Arkane side is that the people above them were forcing them to make a live service game they weren’t interested in making in Redfall and because it (shockingly!) didn’t turn out great they’re shuttering the studio…what did you expect?!
It's so frustrating how disconnected execs are and just don't even care at all
If I had to guess, it was because ZeniMax wanted a live service game to round out their portfolio for an acquisition. I don't think they really expected it to do well, it was more about perception. Considering they were acquired, it worked out for them. Unfortunately, it was at the cost of a really great studio.
EXACTLY what EA and Activision used to do.
Video games as we know them are dying, because what people want is basically a non-factor when it comes to managerial decisions.
The only solution is a People's Video Game Development firm
Microsoft bought them near the end of their development on Redfall. It's all on them, Microsoft didn't make them make that game
Redfall wasn’t bad because it was a live service, it was bad because it was broken and not engaging. The gameplay sucked, it was just a bad copy of better games.
NO MORE CONSOLE WARS! We have to stand together to make sure all these companies don't delist our games. If we can't protect the developers, we must protect the work they managed to upload into the world.
This was always happening. More noticeable with 8+ year development cycles
@@errorx_x1063 Truth, remember when it was EA doing this with studios and their IPs, now it seems Microsoft and Disney are gonna make human effort > temporary riches mainstream if this continues. But I have hope that geeks/consumers have had enough. Ubisoft losing players and resources by the day gives me hope that people will continue to watch these companies like a hawk.
Piracy is the way
@@antoniolewit7852 “It is known” 👌
What do people not get. MS spent 69 billion on Activision-Blizzard and 7 billion on Zenimax. Now, the fancy MBA numbers people at MS want to make all that money back, not today or tomorrow, but yesterday so all game studios that cant sell COD numbers will be shut down and everyone fired. MS owns so many IPs it is insane. So many great IPs will go into the MS dungeon and just lay there forever.
MS had their eye on specific IP. Anyone who has followed MS from their initial inception of Xbox on the gaming scene already knew how this would play out. Use up their up their current IP for what it's worth, discard the studio, then vault the IP. It's the foolish that championed this on, now asking why this is happening.
They really are the western konami
I feel so sorry about Arkane. Prey 2017 is so special and absolutely perfect to me. Sure, it was never going to get a sequel, because it's incredibly underrated (and unrightfully so), but this news is completely devastating
extremely underrated game, so many ways to handle the various situations in the game, and such a well crafted environment. Playing that game made me realize how truly exhausted I was with the bland open world environments game companies have been puking out for the last 10 yrs. You cant fake legitimate inspiration, hopefully someone at Arkane Lyon picks up the "Prey" torch and makes something truly inspired.
one of the most underrated games in the last 20 years easily
Prey reminded me of how I felt when I was a kid playing a game like Hitman Blood Money. Smaller, handcrafted levels with different ways of approaching the objective. But it was better than that.
@@JankSmanksit was better in a way thats impossible to explain, it had that ethereal quality that just flowed through you while you played - one of the best gaming experiences Ive ever had. I didnt play any of Arkane Austins games after Prey but Im still so grateful they made such an incredible project
I agree. It was such a surprise for me and felt like one of those games that don't really happen anymore. One of my favorites and I've beaten it multiple times. This is wild to me
I also feel bad a for Ninja Theory, what chance does Hellblade 2 have if HI-FI Rush wasn't good enough and Xbox doing zero marketing for the game two weeks out from release.
I'd imagine the people at Ninja Theory will be looking over their shoulders with core leadership having already left
Why don’t feel bad they spend 7 years making a walking 5 hour game even thoa that’s mostly Xbox fault but still Xbox wanted that Sony movie game so bad
Hellblade 2 had tons of marketing. They basically showed hours of cutscenes from all showcases, game awards, etc combined
ya idk what the hell they're doing over there
Just dont understand how it takes 7 years to make a 5hr game. I come up with a game idea a day thinking logistically with a team of atleast 30 you could do a 5hr walking sim in a year. 2 if u want it extra special but 7? Thats open world RPG timelines.
Im really sad that we wont see another Evil Within now 😢 this sucks.
Arcane lost 70% of their senior employees that liked making the single player sim games. So it kinda makes sense cuz that studio isn’t the same anymore & the only thing they put out was red fall.
Arkane austin or arkane in general?
@@ChrisBa303It's only Austin
Being a fan of Survival-Horror, this news on The Evil Within is simply heartbreaking.
@therotten6152 What about Dishonored? I don't get it.
@therotten6152you know the games are still available right? This doesn’t mean they’re going to disappear. If anything they’re going to probably try to make some more money off of them with this publicity
I just beat the evil within 2 on my ps4. I feel so happy that I went all the way to the end
Agreed. The first evil within I thought was unbelievable where I was lost in that absolutely crazy world. I always hoped one day a 3rd one would’ve come, for which I’d happily pay for.
Just want to clarify one thing here: only Arkane's Austin studio is getting closed. Their "main" (or at least first) studio in Lyon remains open (and working on the Blade game). It's still a big loss though, especially when the two studio's portfolio is arguably equal. The first Dishonored was the work of both, the sequel and Deathloop are Lyon (plus some work on Wolfenstein Youngblood), while Prey and Redfall are Austin only (I still don't fault them for the latter).
"game journalist" Jake Baldino only jumps at easy headlines, dont expect him to put any work in what he does
Prey was a masterpiece but it didn't sell, and most of Austins employee left during the development of Redfall.
Deathloop and Youngblood are not great, so maybe we should just let go Arkane, it's not the same studio anymore, and it wouldn't have made better games in any case.
@@mxxxwxxx8824definitely said arkane austin
@@stanislavkimov2779Arkane only makes masterpiece
The reason why these games are important is because they're games that make us enjoy gaming as a hobby and artform. We're losing games that don't need microtransactions or live-services to beloved and memorable.
8:04 we need accountability for those in management. Koticks golden parachute could have saved these studios and then some
Management is very bad at managing these studios, that’s for sure, but it’s hardly management that wrote the terrible story or coded the bugs in Redfall. Or designed the boring game loop. But it’s for sure management’s fault to have approved all of it. The issue is that they’re not “managing” at all, they’re just letting the studios run with it, and then close them down when the games fail, because it easier to do this than managing quality.
Arkane closing made me cry. Prey 2017 is my favorite game of all time. I love immersive sims.
It's so fucking heartbreaking seeing this studio close down.
Not arkane
Arkane austin
As long as Arkane Lyon exists we are good but i doubt we will see another game like prey 2017 since Akrane Austin is no more but atleast dishonoured is safe with Lyon.
Bro you need to chill out if a studio closing down makes u cry

Dishonored games are my favorite of all time. A sad day indeed.
everything Microsoft buys it ruins and then kills
Same here buddy. Such masterpieces
I actually just started the series a couple of weeks ago and already playing the Dishonored 1 DLC chapters. Really enjoying it so far. Can’t wait to play Dishonored 2 and Death of the Outsider
Arkane Austin didn't work on the Dishonored series.
Dishonored was actually an Arkane Lyon series, and they haven't (yet) been shuttered. They are working on the Blade game at the moment, together with Marvel Studios. Arkane Austin worked mainly on Prey (2017) and Redfall.
This console generation will be remembered as the remake generation. Very few memorable new games.
Lol yeah my two recents favorite games are Re4 remake and persona 3 reload.
nice to hear you speak on this, would def like more news commentary in the future
Like movies, the price for making a big triple “A” game is becoming unsustainable
I only play quadruple A games.
This isn't about cost of games. That's sonys issue. MS is trillion dollar company. They just care about short term profits more than making games. They said it themselves. They closed these studios because they would have had to invest in sequels for games they wanted to make. So they said how about we not invest our trillions into those devs and give our shareholders and upper management a big pay day off of the money we don't have to pay for supporting these studios any longer
And yet one feels that most of the money goes to the suits and not enough to the people doing the actual work.
Would it be romantic to you if someone offered you pizza?😂❤
@@MrInuhanyou123Microsoft has no taste in games. They only care about those games which has huge active player base like COD and Minecraft. That's why Phil Spencer and Matt Booty talk so much about community driven games.

Me too! Prey was my personal GotY 2017. One of my favorites of all time
Prey is an all time favorite for me
The Evil Within 1 & 2 and Prey was three of my favorite games in the last few years... Microsoft really dropped the ball here. Especially with Arkane as I don't for a second believe that they actually wanted to create Redfall!
And for the record, "a bunch of other videos" are either click bait or simply boring, I am always here for the salt and pizza!
The way that Microsoft be closing down great game studios is like a nice and tasty taco going into the trash.
Hilarious how companies acquire studios to close them! Tango Gameworks was Shinji Mikami’s way to reintroduce survival horror with The Evil Within… these BIG companies buy others to close them… why do that? Just to lay off people? It is insane how the videogame industry is being managed… videogames are a source of happiness for me, so I cannot stop buying nor playing games, but this is insane… why spending money to acquire a studio just to close it?
I wonder why. Is it because they consider part of the IP (like Elder Scrolls/Fallout) so valuable thay the rest is just stuff they HAVE to buy alongside the stuff they really care about? I don't even believe they consider properties like The Evil Within/Hi Fi Rush really valuable at all if they are willing to close down the studios that made those games to begin with.
It's funny what happened to all the drone fans that were celebrating xbox buying these company's cause "fuck sony" Or "They'll make them better and release working (Bethesda starfield) -as a most recent example ??
"we just spent a lot of money to buy you, and so to save money now, you just lost your job. good luck"
To eliminate competition and dominate the market. Basic corp tatic
In the Bethesda deal, it does make some sense, as they bought them all together, they just cost cut a lot of the baggage on that deal away (employees). They'll prob do the same with Machine games as well as Arcane's main studio. Then they have 3 heavy hitting IP's (TES, FO, Doom) which is what it was all about to begin with, without all of the excess staff and related expenditure that came with them .
I'm sad because I really really enjoy Ghostwire. The world and lore were amazing.

The more I think about it, the more I'm certain gaming's peak was 1995-2011. Those were really great years that I wish I could have again. It's too bad about these studios considering they crafted some of the few games that were FUN and didn't feel like vehicles for grindy or microtransactions.
It really ended in around 2014 I think. There was still plenty of ambition in the early 8th gen titles.
So shortsighted not to make a Hifi Rush 2, but this time with proper marketing. Would have also loved to have a Prey 2 😢
Really gutted about these closures, on top of all the rest, I really hope Tango Gameworks' and the other teams can stick together and go independent though... if they're able to, considering how the industry how it is at the moment. It's just such a shame all round, for everyone involved.

Holy shit.
Arkane is responsible for some of the best modern immersive sims. Their closure is a tragedy.
Everyone is giving up on immersive-sim single player games.
They just don't bring enough money.
Projects getting cancelled is one thing, but breaking up and transitioning too many studios to integrate into other teams without the right leadership, not to mention gutting an entire regional team like Tango will definitely set back goodwill - I hope those who can't get immediate opportunities after the fact can find the right fit in their next endeavor, cos damn, that is so important.
Arkane Studios were one of the very few remaining groups still making an immersive sim in the form of Prey, Dishonered series and now upon their closure we are down another creative studio willing to invest into that niche space. It sucks that Microsoft is culling their innovative subsidiaries in service of selling more COD.
They did Redfall, one of the worst AAA games of the decade. That’s the team they have in place today. Prey and Dishonoured were done by a team that was there a decade ago.

Tango did so well with Ghostwire...That's heartbreaking
I'm social media chummy with a guy who worked at Arkane-this came completely out of nowhere. He was a bit higher up in the company and it seems likely they were working on some new stuff under rhe assumption that Xbox understood what happened with Redfall and was okay with them moving forward.
Tale as old time with these mega corps. Leave employees completely in the dark and then suckerpunch them with layoffs or studio closure. It's shameful.
😳Wth
That's wild if true.
As a former corpo, I can tell you that a lot of these companies that are owned by the corps are treated as "subcontractors" and "IP mills" that need to have headcounts trimmed to make bonuses fatter and shareholders happy. The concept of braindrain does not apply in those boardrooms. I left that realm because I was an engineer originally who happened to move into the realm of business-y stuff more, and my voice started to feel like an "affirmative action" hire rather than a meaningful contribution. Literally *nothing* else matters, because those suits feel like "they'll be replaced by younger, cheaper people" without realizing that those younger folk don't learn the requisite skills in school - they learn at their first job doing tasks with the direction of these 20yr vets.
And what happened with Redfall? The game sucked. It was a terrible game in every way. Did he tell you why they did it that way?
@pressrepeat2000 original arkane folks dont want redfail to continue to be developed any longer. Microsoft didnt cancel it, then those Arkane folks left the studio
Gamepass killed Tango.
Hifi Rush’s sales has largely been touted as the reason for closing the studio, but why would anyone buy the game for $30 when it could easily be beaten within a month’s subscription or trial of Gamepass which is less than half the price?
interesting opinion but Hi Fi Rush actually sold really well ! 20k+ reviews that's easily close (or a bit above) 1 million copies sold.
I think they just closed them for inner financial shinanigans and taxes purposes
I mean, without gamepass barely anyone would've known about the game in the first place since it had zero ad budget. The only media coverage it got was from sparce videogame journalists.
@@Toto-95 where did you get the number , over a million sold?? If you wanted the game to *sell more copies*, then you should've advertised the bloody game before bringing it to market. That call is ultimately made by the publisher.

You can tell how passionate and genuine je is. Quickly became my one and only source for an educated opinion on games and the game industry.
The future is looking more and more Indie and AA by the day IMO. Studios being laid off, prices of AAA games skyrocketing, live service flops, games going too big both in scale and budget - obvs these are all separate issues, but they do add up.
Definitely agree, recently found myself exclusively playing indie stuff purely because it's true to the Devs ideas without publisher interference

So Arkane Lyons is still open right? This might be a dumb question, but what's the difference between the two?
Agreed. This is terrible.
And something tells me Ninja Theory is next.
But not before Microsoft milks the game for all its good publicity. They’ll go “See guys, we DO have good exclusives!”, take all the credit when the game earns praise and industry awards, and then throw Ninja Theory into the trash after their niche, expensive single-player passion project doesn’t sell millions of copies (in large part due to Microsoft’s own Gamepass service/strategy) 🙃🙃🙃

best of luck, hope you make something cool and follow your passions through the inevitable BS. don't let it weigh you down
I mean, gaming will never stop growing, particularly with the VR revolution as that tech rapidly improves, but you should have known already that it isn't a 'stable' profession as it never has been, chances are very low you're going to land in a studio and be there 20 years later

I suppose game devs work on passion, and are heavily exploited by cynical companies. Especially it's easy to deceive young fresh graduated ones.
If there is money to be made or costs to be saved, many people will go to any lengths to do it.
I suppose passion work is akin to something like being a musician. Isn't safe for the majority of people.
Evil Within 1 and 2 absolutely trounces modern Resident Evil in terms of creativity and uniqueness. It's such a shame that we won't see any a third entry. Seriously, fuck Microsoft.
Yeah, those games are unique, but the gameplay kind of sucks.
All of them make since except for Tango a little.
Two of the studios are support studios mostly, and one is being fully merged.
Arkane Austin makes tons of since, when you remember that they lost so many people due to RedFall. Also Arkane Austin did not make Dishonored 2 or Death of the outsider, while both Arkane's made Dishonored 1.
Tango makes less since, the only reason I could come up with is that they could not find a studio head. Although that reason is a decently bad reason, due to them probably having people who could be the studio head for Tango.
X Box was behind in the console wars because they made a huge miscalculation on how much people love single player story games. To correct their mistakes bought up multiple big studies. Now they’re closing the studios & are still falling behind so what was the point?
Prey, and it's often overlooked amazing DLC, were some of the best games made in the last decade... Clearing out their talent and unjustly wiping out these studios, the industry starting to collapse under its own weight
Dishonored was handled by Arkane Lyon which are now working on the Blade game.
they worked on the first dishonored. Even if a lot of the employees left or moved around, i still think it's a shame its closing.
@@JakeBaldino Yeah, I believe the "split" came with Dishonored 2 being fully made with just the Lyon studios, and Austin then made Prey.

So is only one branch of Arkane down? Or is the Blade game just gone? Will some ppl be moved over?
Hey Jake, I think it’s actually a Microsoft issues because they also had a bunch of layoffs in their ADC facility in Lagos, Nigeria about 200 staffs if I’m not mistaken. They confirmed the layoffs but denied the facility was gonna be shutdown
The Arkane news just breaks my heart. 😢
I'm really worried about Ninja Theory I feel like Xbox has done next to no marketing for Hellblade 2, except for like a couple of throw away tweets...

Love the video Jake, thanks for always bringing it...thing is with all the shit going on in gaming recently, 1 thought has stuck with me, and has also pushed me into Retro gaming, and that is, there may not be as much to look forward to in the gaming world, but, there are an amazing amount of awesome old school games, that I still haven't played, I'm Busy with GTA Vice City Storied at the moment on my Retro Gaming Handheld, and still knocking out my backlog on PS4, with AC Valhalla...🎮🤘♥️
Whats crazy is that these studios were looking to hire and expand their teams by hiring more people (Tango & Arkane were attempting to largen themselves for their next projects) and then Microsoft saw it and absolutely dismantled them in pursuit of budget cuts for the Xbox division. They didn't want to invest in their future. A trillion dollar company is so worried about losing money that they'd cut them off from support even though they're unionized, and said they'd support them in the future. Microsoft is scrutinizing the Xbox division after the recent purchase of Activision Blizzard King. The division is just being gutted as they have had enough with losing money, they don't care if Xbox is giving reach to the Microsoft ecosystem, they want the results and money now. They've gone full corpo.
Also I just found out that even though the head of Tango, the man with a large video game resume; that before he left the studio that he founded and nourished for 10+ years, he didn't just leave. He wanted his young developers to learn things during the development of Hi-Fi Rush so that they can remain independent and to be capable, once he left. He was genuinely sad based on the few words he said. I mean like that was his baby.
companies should look at any profit as, hey this was money we didnt have before. we didnt lose money so win. greed destroys all
The channel is great & I love the news drops. You make great videos.
What’s that spacey game at 7:00?
Starfield
How can we be in such a gaming golden age and dark age at the same time?
One thing to do: UNIONIZE
How it is not standard to have union in such a big companies...every other industry has it.
Union dont mean shit when the company doesnt exist anymore tho
Union of what? They are shutting down the studio, union wouldnt solve anything
@@RoyMatzem I’ve found that a lot of pro union folk don’t understand how the business works
As a union electrician, I would love to see the unionization of all trades. But the video game industry is so diverse and so complicated that it would take an extraordinary amount of planning to do it right. With construction it’s easy: electricians, pipefitters, iron workers.. etc. You have each division (trade) having its own union. With entertainment you have: writers, actors, set builders (often put into other unions, for example, NFL camera operators are under IBEW). For video game development you have so many departments that would each have to have their own set of bylaws, scopes of work, rules, scales.
Not to say it’s impossible. It’s not. And I can guarantee people within the industry have tried, or they’ve talked about it. Literal wars were fought in coal mines in the 1800’s to get fair treatment for workers in the past. In the modern world it would obviously be different. But it’s incredibly difficult and nuanced for this industry to become unionized.
I could go on for an hour and a half about this subject. I’m sorry for the long winded response.. love you all, and my heart goes out to those affected by these lay offs. I hope others band together and create successful studios.
It's terrifying in the industry right now. The company I work for went through layoffs in Feb and we're still feeling the effects of it now. To see more and more devs go through this and worse is devastating. It's exhausting and I hope the effected devs find new homes..
I know the feeling, I studied video game development for a few years now (about to get a bachelor's in creative arts soon) but with all the closures and trying to find work in the industry. It seems more and more like an impossibility and may have to try something else soon.
Modern "AAA" game budgets are unsustainable. Especially when theirs no innovation or anything truly good.
Their budgets are inflated because of massive ad campaigns.
They don't really care how the game itself turns out as long as they can sell it.
Case in point - Cyberpunk 2077, a flaming turd made of lies and broken promises.
@@bmsuperstar1 yep Watchdogs was the first game I was massively let down by via false marketing hype. Maybe some for Duke Nukem & Sonic 06 but they weren't really ultra marketed like modern "AAA" games.
@@9ALiTY Yeah yeah, they're spending an insane amount of money just in order to dupe the gamers.
Imagine what kind of games they could make if they invested that cash in the development.
I really loved Evil Within 2. I wanted more from that franchise.
It's crazy how they keep 343 but will cut arkane and tango
Might be because I’m getting older or cuz I have lofty dreams of making my own studio, but I enjoy industry news and veteran takes on it a lot, so these style of videos are awesome imo. The news sucks but it’s interesting to see all the takes as to where this goes from here
I finished playing Hi-Fi Rush a few weeks ago and it’s exactly what the industry needs right now. Projects that are bigger than indies but smaller than AAAs are the future imo. Maybe the potential sales aren’t as high, but the investment/risk involved is substantially lower.
But what do I know, I’m just a chimp
It is like the perfect balance. Such a breath of fresh air.
You mean like... AA?
@@victorn1291 more like aa
@@monkeeeeit's funny because apparently Matt Booty agrees with you! 😂 Gee I wonder how they could find studios to make such games
I completed the main story yesterday bittersweet knowing there probably won't be a sequel.
It's a shame you release a game with new ideas and fun gameplay and your studio gets shut down.
This is so sad. I feel for everyone involved in this situation. I got laid off last year very suddenly and am still dealing with the trauma from it, even after getting a new gig.
It’s so difficult, years of hard work, office politics, and other is just Thanos snapped away in an instant to keep the people at the top rich. Wishing the best for everyone involved.
Great conversation in this video. Keep up the news analysis!
Gameranx and, by extension, Jake’s channel, is my #1 source for gaming news, so I would definitely love more videos covering the state of the industry, especially with the way things are looking lately. Thank you Jake for keeping me informed

NEW ANALOGY SUGGESTION: You are missing the meatballs through the spaghetti?
PRETTY GOOD
Love watching your take on games and the games industry in general.
Thank you for doing what you do, I hope to do even a small amount of what you offer one day and easily comes off you make a good effort =D thank you
Meanwhile I’m imagining Rare in the UK going: “Lads we’re in trouble! Does anyone still have Nintendo’s number?! I want to go back!”
Like running into your ex at a coffee shop... "Heyyyyyy.... youuuuuu... you look great, how you been? Remember when we made DKC together... those were good times..."
Rare that MS bought was completely different from the Rare that was under Nintendo.
The genuine shock I had when I read, Tango games, is something that will never leave me
It's frustrating that many studios are being axed and so many jobs in general are being lost in the gaming sector where profits are higher than ever.
It's interesting that a lot of this doesn't extend to many Japanese studios; even the smaller ones that don't or have never put out a highly successful release. Seemingly, as long as they're turning a profit, even if not much, it's good enough to keep going at least. Granted many of these games don't have the enormous budgets but I think that speaks volumes on the amount of AAA-attempting game studios in general and the gamble that AAA games are... especially when these studio holders force live-service everything on all their studios because maximizing profits is more important than the entertainment the product offers... at the end of the day, video games ARE a part of the entertainment industry, right?
It's like all these large holders here in the US are gambling when they pick up a studio, and hoping that their next release will be the next CoD, GTA or Candy Crush, with the easy recurring revenue of WoW and are too quick to toss them away when that investment into the studio doesn't pay off immediately. It's like they wander into a Vegas casino, put one coin in a slot machine and set fire to the machine when that one coin didn't result in the jackpot.
I've mostly fallen off AAA games as a whole. I prefer single player experiences and fun or inventive ideas that indie and smaller studios are nimble enough to pull off without the extra bureaucratic layers that would ruin it or take far too long to produce. Not everybody shares that sentiment, and that's OK, I just don't like much of what I see in the AAA space these days.
America needs to implement laws similar to Japan, disallowing layoffs unless it can be proven that not laying off employees would bankrupt the entire company
Ive heard nothing but bad news since xbox made this 69billion dollar acquisition, im sure theres good news but especially xbox being the least selling console, just doesnt look good for these companies
Breaking: scummy corporation cuts costs 😱💀
I’m devastated. The Evil Within (especially the first game) was as close the original Silent Hill games that I’ve managed to find…..yet still being uniquely its own thing.
I have never given up hope that there might be a TEW3. That hope faded firstly with Shinji Mikami’s departure, now I only have the ghost of a hope.
Could Tango be taken up by another parent company? Would Shinji still have the rights to make a third game with another company?
Also, the Arkane Austin closing is bummer, but hopefully this will inspire Arkane Lyon to rethink Arkane’s offerings of late and get back to the quality of the Dishonored games and Prey.
so the upcoming blade game is also done for?
As a lifelong Xbox fan (I’m 25) these closures are unforgivable. I don’t think I can give Xbox my money any more if studios that produce great games are still getting shut down
Dishonoured and prey are two of the best games of the 21st century this honesty upsets me
lol no they're not
@kingdavid7516 dude's being hyperbolic but if youve played those games, theres not a lot of studios out there that can make them. Especially Prey
I don’t know who could do it, but we NEED Evil Within 3😢 that’s one of my most anticipated games I want to come out. I could’ve sworn it was at least partially in the works. I just hope whoever is able to pick it up, will make it great
you're always so passionate, even-headed and thoughtful. As long as you keep doing that, talk about whatever you want!
