      NO JAKE... DO NOT lock batman in Arkham asylum for the next movie. no no no. we need a second movie to build up more of batman rogues gallery. and than after those rogues are in Arkham.. at the end of the movie joker said to riddler "Gotham loves a comeback story" so the third movie you lock batman in there with Arkham asylum and u market it as Riddlers comeback story when in reality its joker behind it all

    I think what makes this movie work for me was Bruce's arc of choosing hope over revenge. Initially, he is so focused on punishing criminals that the people of Gotham fear and hate him. However, the Riddler case forces him to think about how his actions only add to the darkness in Gotham. There are even little moments like him empathizing with, and saving, the deceased-mayor's son and opening up to Alfred.
    This all leads to my favorite moment in the movie: Batman holding out his hand to the Gotham citizens and being a guiding light outside the destroyed arena. The fact that the boy was the first to take his hand made it even better.

    • @DuSeun
      @DuSeun 2 роки тому +11

      Yeah, I liked that he was more of a hated anti hero here. He was basically seen as one of the criminals at the beginning. It sets up a lot of potential for him to grow over the sequels, and it's very interesting to see such a young batman

    I’ve watched The Batman twice now…and I enjoyed it more the second time.
    The one negative I’ve seen is that there isn’t a solid distinction between Bruce and Batman…but I feel this was intentional.
    Very early on in the film he makes it clear he doesn’t care about his persona as Bruce or Wayne Enterprise, he’s fully invested in being the Bat and making a change. He doesn’t know how to shut it off,
    He hasn’t learned that the Bruce persona is actually needed.
    I remember whispering to my friend an hour in saying “this is the first time we’ve actually seen Bruce.”
    You see him without the cowl but he’s almost always doing Batman things,
    The city felt so alive. The only other movie that came close to this for me is Watchmen.

    • @danehartenbower5624
      @danehartenbower5624 2 роки тому +16

      It was definitely intentional. During an interview with Fandango, Pattinson flat out said that he hasn't learned to distinguish Bruce and Batman yet and that he wants to be Batman all the time, so you're pretty spot-on.

      Interesting I couldn’t even finish watchmen. However I did enjoy this movie but I guess I am not praising it as much as some people

    • @rottensquid
      @rottensquid 2 роки тому +4

      Yeah, I think that was by design. There's a key scene near the end, where we're teased with the idea that Riddler has worked out Batman's secret identity, only to realize that he hasn't.
      Except... then he goes on to praise Batman's mask (such a great mask) and recognize that Batman is his real face. Almost as though he's saying that Batman has, indeed, killed Bruce Wayne, by simple dint of supplanting his identity. And that delights the Riddler.
      What makes this interesting is that, but for Riddler almost killing Alfred, this would have been basically true. It was almost losing Alfred, plus finding some kind of connection to Selina, that brings Bruce back. Batman buried Bruce so that he would never have to feel loss again. But when he realizes how much Alfred still matters to him, he realizes that Bruce is still in there. There's still a person who cares inside the monster. And that's the part of him that has something to live for, something to fight for beyond vengeance. That's when he starts the new path that ends with him saving people from the flood.
      Remember, at the beginning scene, he has no interest in the mugging victim. He doesn't even want to look at the guy. He just wanted to hurt people. It isn't till the end that he's seeking out people to rescue. And that moment when he's putting the mayor's orphaned kid on the stretcher, and the kid doesn't want to let go of him, that's probably the first positive emotion he's gotten out of his mission. If Riddler was Batman's shadow mirror, that kid was a different kind of mirror.

    Saw it tonight thought it was incredible, people complaining about the slow moments are the reason why films have become such dumb action fests in recent years, I thought it nailed Batman and the action was amazing, heard a lot of people complain about how Bruce Wayne didn’t act like a playboy fun loving guy infront of the public and media like in the comics however I’d say that was intentional because the film depicts a younger Batman who is more focused on vengeance and maybe isn’t as savvy and hasn’t realised the benefits of having a media on side, which I’m sure is something they’ll explore if this gets a sequel

    This had to be the most refreshing superhero movie in a long while. It was a complete visual spectacle brimming with that aesthetically pleasing gothic noir atmosphere and it felt so appropriate for a Batman story. I'm with you on the Joker too. People say Batman has the best rogues gallery, yet they just can't go without using the Joker in every major Batman story at some point. My understanding is they're looking at Mr. Freeze. I'm not sure how that could be pulled off in this version of Gotham. It's a delicate balance they struck, right on the knife's edge between grounded and fantastical. If they end up with a guy who has to go around in a refrigerated suit, they'd tip the scales into fantasy land. Either they'll have to reinvent the character to just be a revenge-driven widower with some kind of vaguely science-based plot, or they'd have to just embrace the pulp sci-fi aspects of Batman lore.
      Though I can see Mr. Freeze as a Walter White type who leaves his victims frozen in baths of liquid nitrogen. Then again, following the trail of another serial killer getting revenge against powerful men might not be the best follow-up. Some variety would be preferable, I think. So maybe not Mr. Freeze at all.

And they all tell different stories.

    The majority of the movie was filmed in my home city of Glasgow, Scotland. I actually got to see the filming of the ending -- the motorbikes leaving the Necropolis -- during my commute to work (Glasgows biggest cemetery). Glasgow has a lot of Gothic-revival and Victorian architecture which sits right alongside more modern buildings. It basically already is Gotham... without the massive skylines of course, they were all added in post. The Batgirl film is being shot right now in Glasgow city centre, I got to watch a lot of the shoots for that from my office.

    Robby P is the last guy I'd have ever thought I would say is MY definitive live-action Batman back in 2008, but I think that's how I feel now after seeing it a few hours ago. It has some glaring flaws, but overall I think it was the most satisfied I've been with a DC film since The Dark Knight, and I already wanna watch it again. I didn't get chills like watching a Nolan film, but there were so many little cinematic moments that had me so mesmerized and immersed... like that shot of the bat in the cage. There was a sense of vision and artistry I don't think I've ever seen in a super hero film before this. This movie nailed Batman as a character, they didn't have to have the Riddler, or anyone recognizable. It could have just been some random serial killer and I'd have still been so invested in watching Batman finally be more Batman than I've ever seen before in a movie.

    I love that face at 15:45, I can't stop replaying it HAHA! I watched the whole thing, I always love hearing your thoughts. So funny seeing Andrew failing at Elden Ring in the background and his reactions XD
    Saw the film yesterday, I'm in love! Matt Reeves is such an excellent filmmaker, I love his Apes films, and I feel like his CV is very appropriate. He's also looking a lot like Jimbo Gordon, so that also helps.
    The score by Mike Giacchino was probably one of his best, I've had it stuck in my head since yesterday. Really captures the spirit of Batman, Gotham, and each of the characters with their themes.
    The Batmobile chase was incredible, it had a purpose and there was real emotion to it. It didn't feel like a car chase, it felt like the Batmobile was an extension of Batman's being, whilst the Maserati was Penguin with it's jerky and chaotic movements, so it was Batman vs Penguin. I also felt the same about the rev he gave, telling Penguin to run.
    And that opening, with the shadows and how we expect Batman to show up, and seeing the impact Batman has on criminals, it really showed that he has become a symbol of fear. He felt less like a man, and more like a force of nature, with the way he carried himself and moved.
    Yeah man, this was incredible, may well be a 10/10 from me!

    I did sort of roll my eyes at the joker cameo as a gut reaction, but after hearing what Matt Reeves had to say about it in an interview, I'm a lot cooler with it. Basically he was saying that it doesn't necessarily mean the joker is coming in the next movie or anything. Saw this movie on opening night (03/04) at an 8pm showing and absolutely loved it. Hell, I was on-board and all-in since the DC Fandome of last year after seeing the teaser they showed. The way Dir. Matt Reeves spoke about the movie with passion & his vision for Batman & Gotham as a character had me further invested and confident this movie could pull that classic, graphic novel feel off, and after watching it, I feel like they have succeeded in that goal in so many ways and more. What’s even crazier is that I feel like they still have so much more potential to explore, expand, and grow this universe and story even further. This film I feel, definitely pulled inspiration from “Zero Year”, “The Long Halloween”, “Catwoman: When In Rome” & some “Year One” graphic novels and I was all for it.
