Oh, I've been going through the exact same thing as you. As probably all artists are.
As soul-crushing as it has been to have to let go of my dreams and years of effort put towards finding my way into the animation industry, I'm also simultaneously strangely grateful. Yeah, it's likely I might never get a shot at working in the industry, but... I didn't start drawing as a child to get into the industry. I didn't ask for more paper and pencils from my parents so that I could fill my portfolio. I didn't share my first art post online to get the attention of an art director. I was subtly aware that I lost sight of why I really do what I do, but I didn't have to face that fact until I felt like I lost the possibility of that external achievement. It took me these 2 or so years to rinse traces of social media out of my system and start paying attention to my inner child artist again, but now I find myself playing again! I'm experimenting. I'm having fun drawing and painting, just for the sake of drawing and painting, and it's comforting and freeing. I have no idea what my future is going to look like, I haven't managed to find a new dream yet, but it's okay. Because I'm playing and creating again. And AI can't feed off of my private sketchbooks and canvases. Unless I use photoshop lol.
I hate this bleak reality we're facing, but at least I can still create something just for me and feed my own starved soul.
Kim, if you do decide to keep sharing your work somewhere online going forward, I'm looking forward to seeing what you make! And if not -- I'm happy for you finding your joy either way.

Oh my god this is such a beautiful message, thank you so much for writing this so beautifully that truly means so much! You put it so well!! Playfulness is so strangely fulfilling and comforting that it even manages to ease all the fear and grief I‘ve been feeling! It feels really good knowing there are other artists out there like you who are on this same journey with me ❤️❤️ I am super proud of you being able to let go of the dopamine hits of social media completely 🙏 it sounds like you are on such a good path no matter where it leads, and I think the younger you would be so happy to see where you are right now!!

@@scribblediary237 Your last sentence legit made me cry!! I hope you're right 💖I'm so proud of you too Kim, you're doing it too! Making our inner children happy and proud of us is one of the greatest things we can hope to achieve, I think. We can do this together. And luckily there are still artistic communities buried deeper below the surface of the internet (like discord servers) where we can feel safe and support each other when we need to, privately. We'll make it to the other side. Not unchanged, but we'll make it.

In the future artists will only make art for other artists. Art won't be destined to be for the large public because ai will just overflow the market, the only one remaining who will look for real art will be actual artists. We artist will stick together to create an art haven so we can share things together, knowing how it feels to create, the satisfaction of real art

I have yet to meet anyone that has paid for ai art so I think artists will be ok for a while yet.

I've been really really loving seeing all the strength and support in the art community. Some people are fighters and some are giving hope and everyone is just sticking together like you said and trying to be prepared for whatever is coming. And that is so special! This would be impossibly hard without you all

I actually think that this will just be a phase (however long it may or may not take..) but similiar with other industries where the market was overflown with content that was readily available for everyone (and by everyone too). (Like musik or books) people will start looking for their specific niche ( its the longtail theory from i think chris anderson or something...) that they want to see so anyone growing up in this day in age will start learning how to navigate the current plattforms and media and find the things they want to see and once that happens a lot of people outside the artcommunity will look for art with substance and thats where they will find all the artists that found their own way or founded their own platforms to share their art etc. and then the art haven will open up too substantios parts of the general public :)

@@larajackson239 that's what a frend of mine told me too, but idk... I really hope you're right and that is a good reasonning, it may be like nfts and crypto, just a shot phase but the thing is ai is improving everyday very fast, and if it stops improving at a certain point maybe your theory will be right but if it doesn't... I hope the hype will at some point calm down

@@yelop_0w087 Yeah, lets hold on to that hope! :) I also recently watched a youtube vid on AI where they talked about how AI art is flooding all the platforms with all the pictures but at the same time it uses the platforms to train itself so after a while it trains itself with all the falty pictures it uploaded in the past.. so the learning curve is not exponential but flattens out the longer it goes on... and in some parts it learns wrong things cause humans dont have 6 fingers etc. and to learn more and more and fix those mistakes as well it also needs exponantially more data ...which it wont have at some point, so maybe that is also where humans have the upper hand still ;P

i adore your drawings, especially the faeries you showed! aside, a huge THANK YOU!! for this video. this resonates with me so hard, especially because i’ve been going through the exact same thing as an illustrator and graphic designer. it makes me so freaking sad to see AI generated graphics, animation, etc. social media has changed SO MUCH! i’ve also been so sooo tired of it, i’m preparing to quit instagram soon and solely post on my online portfolio!
i’m tired of making myself feel bad about not creating and posting all the time, in hopes to get a bunch of followers and be “famous.” i’m tired of not creating for myself, and thinking “oh, this sketch won’t get me a bunch of traction” or “i want to draw fanart of this character just because they’re popular.”
thank you for reminding me of WHY i started drawing in the first place as a child! to channel my emotional energy and heal my soul. you are such a lovely human and i am sooo thankful for this. i’m so inspired! please keep speaking your mind and making your art 💓

oooo my god thank you so much for your comment, you have no idea how happy that just made me and It's sooo motivating! And good for you foe leaving Instagram behind, I know its probably a super hard and scary step, but we KNOW these apps are poison to creativity and authenticity in our work and removing that from your life completely can be so healing. My sister took a two year break from Social Media and her love for drawing grew SO much, she is so in touch with what feels right and inspires her now and its really really beautiful. I wish you all the best on that journey and thanks again so so much for your kind words!

In my opinion Ai is similar to what photography did to painters when it all started. although this is not ethical right now maybe someday it will be useable to some extent and ethical

AI is going to destroy the art industry. Ethics doesn't matter. It will happen. All non-AI art jobs are about to be erased. You'll need to find a new line of work if you refuse to leverage AI tools. Soon AI will replace most jobs when combined with robotics. We're driving rapidly into a dystopia.

@@DrWarbird oof maybe, that would be really really sad. I really hope that there’s a few people who value human art more than artificial art, just like some people still value hand potted ceramics or bring their old shoes to a leather repair shop as opposed to just buying new shoes but we will have to see. It’s sooo hard to let go of the dream of making a living from art but if it really comes to that I am sure we‘ll work through that too somehow. It’s so out of our control. Might as well just do what makes us happy in the meantime

just as written language was gonna destroy culture and humans ability to articulate ourselves proplerly ... or the book press would lead to a degenerate society that wont be able to apreciate art and cherish written words ... or the internet would lead to the death of the book within a few years and be the downfall of any kind of media company that acts as an intermediate between creator and consumer, and photography will lead to the death of painting etc. etc. you can go back to plato and will always find poeple who thought that a new tool or medium will lead to the fall of human society, art and morality ...and guess what it never happend! So I think there is still hope for Art and Artists just that we will literally not know where exactly it will lead us, however a complete dystopia is unlikely because humans react and adapt and sometimes in completely different ways that we in our current times are able to foresee or imagne, so.
Dont loose all hope its never white and black.
