Home invader suspects chose the "wrong home" after encountering armed veteran homeowner

- In Clayton County, a veteran says he wanted to make sure his wife was protected after video surveillance caught suspects attempting to break into his vehicle in the driveway. The surveillance video captured the homeowner run out of his home with flip flops, pajama pants, no shirt, and a rifle to get the armed suspects away.

Well i see what they were saying.....they weren't trying to get into his home......He still has the right to defend his property, but i could see calling him stupid to run out, risk his life, for someone taking something from his car. Don't get me wrong, I would have been right there with him, but that still doesn't mean its the smart thing to do. He could have taken a stray round to the dome and his wife and kids would be without.........Was he brave? Yes. Was it stupid? Yes.......but that's pretty much what every Medal of Honor recipients citation says as well.

So he shouldnt wait til theyre at the door where they might not even go at all, where theyll have a disadvantage on the steps and doorway area, and where he can watch every move on the camera.. but he should run out to them in the yard and be surrounded by them in flip flops with no ability to hide, get additional ammo, fix the gun if it jams behind cover, or be there to comfort his wife! When they may have just checked if his car was locked then left and he wouldve been able to watch on camera while on the phone with dispatch to inform arriving officers of their exact movements and help them survive for their families as well. And possibly actually catch them instead of them getting away totally unidentified with another free firearm to add to their arsenal for next time, and they know where he lives but he doesnt even know who they are. Reason why it's stupid the way he did it is because if he actually shot the suspect he would have actually gotten in trouble. According to the law he wasn't physically being harmed and his life wasn't in danger. I know someone in prison now for something similar to this. Amazing how they can touch our property but we have to be cautious how we handle the suspect smdh

Exactly. What does defending you get you? A shot up car, future retaliation by thugs...or if that guy had been hit he probably would have sued the home owner. Look to the Bodega owner in New York who stabbed the customer who was intimidating him behind the counter-now he's afraid of gang retaliation (the guy he killed was in a gang) and he's afraid for his life now. It doesn't pay to defend yourself with lethal force because if you are dealing with criminals, they don't give a rats about your life or anyone else's.

Do all combat veterans leave rifles in their unlocked trucks or just stupid ones? 73% of all reported stolen guns come from vehicle break ins, 63% of them not even locked. That means the majority of people that have guns stolen out of their cars didn't even bother to lock them. People, please STOP leaving guns unattended in your vehicles unless they are secured in a garage or you have a lock box bolted down. What is really the point here is that he put his life on the line to try to prevent his car from getting a broken window, blew out all the windows, didn't get a single shot on target, ran out of rounds and went back inside where he could have stayed from the beginning, swapped for a different gun, lost his target, then wandered into the yard blind when they could have easily picked him off.

Unfortunately the firearm in the vehicle wasn’t concealed enough and was stolen and now there is an illegal gun on the street. Kudos to him for protecting what’s his but I wouldn’t leave a firearm in your vehicle. Better to take it in everyday you carry it.

That ship sailed a long time ago. The whole purpose of being able to own firearms in the constitution was to be able to resist a tyrannical government. Yeah the USA now has tanks, missiles, nukes, hellfire missiles, etc. These weapons are far superior to an AR15. In the olden days the most advanced weapons were cannons and firearms.
