Man shoots through door at would-be burglars posing as maintenance workers: video

- A Texas man opened fire on a pair of suspects who tried to break into his home over the weekend in a wild scene caught in doorbell footage.
One of the suspects, Aaron Contreras, knocked on the apartment door of Ethan Rodriguez on Saturday evening and claimed to be a maintenance worker there to check on the filters in his air conditioner, according to doorbell camera footage and an affidavit obtained by Fox Dallas.
Rodriguez, who was inside, answered the door via a digital doorbell app on his phone and claimed that no one was home, the video shows.
A few minutes later, Contreras came back with a handgun and attempted to kick down the front door to Rodriguez’s apartment, according to the clip.
A second man wearing a mask ran up the stairs and also tried to kick in the door, the footage shows.
Within moments, Rodriguez grabbed his gun and opened fire from inside his apartment through the front door - sending the men running.
The resident fired off several rounds and the video shows bullets striking the concrete wall across the way. Contreras fired two shots in response before he fled, according to the station.

Dont think so. He was probably watching them in the camera, noticed the guy holding the gun, and shot where he last saw him. He was stood right where the shots are going just before he began to kick the door backwards.

Unreinforced doors would have came open in a few kicks. I know from experience. This was definitely a properly reinforced door frame. They are called fire doors.

They werent going to kick this door open ...with a 80 lb battering ram they could have eventually bent it enough to reach in and unlock it possibly...but the occupants werent about to give them that much time😂

Even better is having an additional " external " door made of pure metal in front of the normal door.
This is the best door protection possible.

I've lived in a low crime, rural area my entire life, where our neighbors don't even really have to lock their doors at night. It's not unreasonable for someone coming rom a rural or suburban area to move to the city, and make the mistake of bringing that overly-trusting attitude along.
This is also why you make an effort to know everyone who works for the apartment complex

I’m sure there’s more to what meets the eye. The homeowners might or might not be acquainted with the “maintenance” guys. And there’s a missing piece of puzzle that connects both parties.
Ring cams are generally set up for remote access.
The dedication of those maintenance techs to make sure the residents have clean air filters was amazing. Maybe thats why i didn't make it but 7 years in the field.

Probably did that on purpose. He didn't want to shoot through to the other door where someone might be behind there. he shot at an angle, for warning and to not hit any innocent person by accident.
Doubtful that's the reason. He knew they had a gun from the camera so was standing at an angle to avoid being shot straight on through the door.

Whenever i miss my maintenance workers appointment , they just usually leave a note to say that no one was available at the time of their visit. These guys on the other hand are complete professionals and do everything to gain entry to get the job done, even if it means coming under fire .

Here in England, when someone has been burgled, the police doesnt even turn up when it has happened. They give you a crime number, and the police turn up a week later.

Number 1 - I have deep respect for police officers. I am friends with some. But it still amazes me that instead of listening to this guy give his story they go and check inside his apartment, suspecting him of something. I know, I know, you’re going to say they have to inspect the apartment to make sure it’s safe, but the order of events still amazes me.
