They went ahead and gave the refund before looking in to the actual price that was charged. Then, instead of just letting it go, they call back and say they're cancelling the refund and if the refund doesn't cancel, then the money needs to be paid back. THEN someone screwed up royally in somehow refunding OP hundreds of dollars. All OP did was buy a new coat and pay the ticketed price. OP didn't have a problem with the price and said so multiple times. He didn't try to haggle with the thrift store and get the price lowered, then go home and complain about it. His mom was the one being nosy and getting all in OP's business. She made this mess, now she can clean it up. Yes, it is correct that it's not OP's money to begin with, but again, he didn't do anything in this mess except buy a coat.

OP with the mom who won’t give up the scammer: 1) get her checked out by both her doctor and a therapist. 2) you ought to see about getting her into a conservatorship since she’s already lost her job over this and proven her behavior is making it impossible for her to care for herself. You and the siblings would have more solid control over the finances then and could hopefully halt the flow of money going out the door.

Gave the safe space, open space, time to figure things out, offered many options, but I ended up being the bad guy. I do think the thrift store should get the extra money back, but from mom She did this. Story 3: We only feed our dog human food, but we consulted a vet and also did significant research on our own before formulating his diet. Some of the health problems he had (which are common for his breed) actually improved or ceased to be problems at all as a result. The fact that the aunt would sooner take her dogs to the vet a bunch of times than do a quick Google search to see if maybe diet was at least part of the issue concerns me. I don't think she should have pets at all, especially if she thought feeding them what essentially equates to candy was acceptable in the first place. Story 4: Dan will likely always cave and side with his parents against OP. She should end things before she wastes a lot of effort on a relationship that is bound to fail. Additionally, moving in together after less than a year seems very dumb to me. You don't even know each other at that point.
