Thank you so much for having me on pal! Loved chatting about everyone's favourite hidden gem 😉💎
Hope you all enjoyed it!
An F in the chat for Sam and the unnecessary torment he went through to get this video public
I have a super controversial take: I actually love The Two Doctors and I'm very willing to defend that fact
Got a mic? I'd happily be won over.
@@SamyulDavis I do, and will happily defend it. idk how you get into contact with people but I'm in
@@icecreamchick45 my twitter is @dread_davis
I agree with this opinion.
Same!
Hot Take: Paradise Towers is unironically one of the best Doctor Who Stories
Like Invasion of the Dinosaurs it's an extremely interesting story which for the most part people disregard because of production values. The Happiness Patrol is similar, but not quite to the same extent.
Same, I love both of The Happiness Patrol & Paradise Towers. They were my first seventh doctor stories to watch.
Bagsy doing an in depth analysis of why Orphan 55 is the best episode of television ever televised that’s long than the episode itself
You can’t make me watch the Twin Dilemma again
the whole "we don't know peri enough" doesn't work since we literally didn't know anything about tegan and nyssa and yet they were really good at keeping the audience in check
Oh my god it's actually up
The UA-cam Gods have had their full slake of blood ... _for now._
Next they'll he saying the matrix's boopbeepbeepboops's are copyright
That one stray pixel on your character avatar is driving me nuts lol

I hate it so much
I'll always love this one for Kevin McNally in that awful sparkly shirt.
So this is basically just a podcast. Not that it's a bad thing, mind you.
o ah aha ah
If I ever figure out how to get my microphone working I would love to discuss Inferno.
I need to speak to someone else who doesn’t love that story.
Top idea
@@SamyulDavis Two Years Later...
Fun fact: the random guy who points a gun at Colin Baker is Gibbs from Pirates of The Caribbean.
Yet another celebrity cameo from before they were famous LMFAO
I'm glad underworld comes up in this video because I watched it just the other day, not knowing a single thing about it and never having heard of it. I think the monster designs are one of my favourites, the atmosphere and aesthetic of it all to be great, especially the huge set piece of the execution, and the ending to be quite new for classic who in terms of the doctor saving more than a number of people you can count on your fingers. but it just fails for me narratively because I dont know what the whole point of the conflict was. the people wanted a thing and the bad guys had the thing and had slaves for some reason and so they handed over the thing but it wasnt thing but a bomb so the bad guys could continue to be evil and serve some voice that was evil for some reason??? like I couldn't tell you what the plot was if I tried
Twin dilemma (allegedly the worse classic story) is a masterpiece compared to the timeless child and orphan 55.
His name is space cop! And the slug king is called slug daddy!
Trial of a Time Lord is amazing. I have it on DVD. It's the first Classic Who episode I ever got on DVD.
Great series idea. Love it!
JNT wanted the sixth Doctor to start out sinister and slowly become heroic, but that didn't work out so well thanks to executive meddling. Also, people always laugh at Classic Who's wobbly sets, but at least they actually had sets and didn't just take the camera out on location in a working class neighborhood in Shropshire or whatever like in NuWho.
?? i mean, yeah theres more frequent on location shooting but also a crap ton of sets in new who haha, dont be ridiculous..
even way back in season 1, the observation deck, the frozen media control room, the space station gameshows, then you have a crap ton with tennant, hell Midnight is entirely a set..
Davros' base, the ood facility, the clone war tunnels.. 42, impossible planet, Tennant has some insanely high budget set design
then you have a crap ton in Smiths era, and even more in capaldis
like, you can prefer the vintage style of classic whos sets, but its objectively nonsense to say there isnt set design and the majority is just filming out on a cardiff street, thats like 5% of the episodes man
Sam, I am dying to talk to literally anyone about practically anything Doctor Who related. I especially would love to have a chat with you about the 1st Doctor story The Chase which is one of my comfort stories recently. Never ceases to put me in a good mood that one. Got a decent mic on my laptop and strong wi-fi so if you ever want someone new on your internet show I'd love to be on. Not entirely sure how to contact you but if a lovely conversation with a bored Canadian about The Chase or like I don't know Brain of Morbius shoot me a reply.
Huzzah, it's out. May the ruthless UA-cam Gods be merciful.
at least the doctor had a kind teacher in the form of Azmael
wishing the copyright strikers to stay away
My uncle had all the vhses and used to play them for me after school. That strangle was just so traumatizing when I first saw it. I cried and had to stop watching. Could never get behind the sixth doctor after that and felt so bad for Peri. Felt sick.
Okay you need to do a commentary on Death of the Doctor and The End of the World
Also random shoes just for the memebility of it
Like this kind of video very fun to watch and listen to
I’ve never watched the Twin Dilemma but I really enjoy the Sixth Doctor From what I have watched
7:02 awesome quote, glad I invested in x-ray vision to be able to SEE it
I'm fully embracing my troll persona now
I am aware of the situation from my bi-daily glance at Twitter.
Never seen this story, assumed the quote was some New Yorky guy talking about their admiration of The Master.
I refused to un-edit my own video after a week of over-editing it to get it on the site. I'm broken nightowl, broken.
@@SamyulDavis can i put you back together again?
@@SamyulDavis - you seen that new episode of South Park where Stan attempts to write a script with a Chinese Government official watching over his shoulder?
Giving me communist censorship vibes
I always trust Adam Martyn
literally no one has explained to me why people hate underworld
Seriously, though I love Peri, she's not Zoe, and the Dominators is a much better story than the Twin Dilemma, yet there's good and bad things about both stories, the worst story is often cited as Timelash. I think maybe more study is needed or as the old saying goes 'The jury is still out on this one'.
Delta and the Bannerman is the only Doctor Who episode I had to force myself to watch and was something I genuinely wanted to switch channels away from. I adore Classic Who, even the “boring” episodes. The set design in costuming is almost always interesting to me but Jesus Christ I wanted to fucking kill my self bc I was that bored and I’m not even depressed anymore lmao.
That may be the only 7th Doctor story that I own. Now I don't want to watch it and find out.
@@bluehero-96 Honestly, find any other to watch first. The 7th Doctor is one my favorite regenerations and that episode isn’t a good start for his character. You can find basically every episode for free on Daily Motion.
funnily enough tegan (AKA the human) is the only one who had an actual justification for only wearing one costume (on season 19 that is, on season 20 and 21 she stopped being costume coded)
Yoooo let's go
Never clicked a video faster lol
Interesting yet completely useless fact - at the end of Androzani Colin was too fat to fit in 5’s costume so ended up mooning Peter’s wife, Sandra.
The time monster is a legitimately good story and is better than at least 40% of the rest of the pertwee era.
3:08 Yeah 5 didn't even like seem to like 5 very much
A better title would've been:
*DOCTOR WHO*
*AND THE MIDLIFE CRISIS OF DEATH*
Or
*DOCTOR WHO*
*AND THE SLUGS OF DOOM*
I really like episode 1 of timelash, but then the second half just fucks it all up.
I was enjoying this and then Adam shit talked City of Death while praising the Twin Dilemma and I suddenly lost my faith in humanity
just wondering what mic you used...
Doctor Who?
Bolin Caker
Hi Sam, I know I have a smaller fallowing, but I would love to have a chat with you about a Doctor who story, if you don’t wanna that’s fine.
The Dominators? 😳 I like that one! It's a feeble redo of the themes that were done better in "The Daleks", but the Dominators were ahead of their time!
I like the costume-versus-outfit idea, and the coat, but they went overboard with the trousers, shoes and socks. Other sample drawings using red, purple and green were better, and black trousers eould have been best. Its a good reminder that he is an alien and not all species and cultures act the same way, so JNT was not wrong... six's era too reminds audiences of this, if not on the nose too much at times but from "Snakedance" onward the criticisms missed the point so I wonder if JNT wanted to spell it out?
JNT always wanted the show to look "up to date" thanks to the late-70s being so flat. But JNT was the polar opposite and everything often looks too trendy. Especially early-McCoy where its 80s spit out wverywhere with the triangles and magenta and blue. Good grief... still loved his theme, though!
Everything's overlit because of the videotape machines being hard to calibrate. Im amazed they took the effort for McCoy's era, for which they look grainier than usual as a result.
Stranguling - good points on how to do it better! It's due to post-regeneration trauma from the spectrox, but casuals who missed the previous week or story would wonder what is going on and just make a decision out of context.
Loving this podcast! Will get back to the remainder later today, thank you both!
I like the drawing of the blue/purple/red. That would have been brill on Colin as well.
Great points on the show needing to take real risks and for reading the novelization! I'd read it a very long time ago. The description of the biological process was cool, but I don't remember anything else of it.
The beginning of the end of Doctor Who for casual audiences, who won't take the time to really explore what's set up. Like soap opera or sports fans criticism people who tune in for 5 minutes and tune out because they missed an important scene or pass.
Cool podcast, thanks!
Why is someone picking Colin's nose in the thumbnail? XD
Enjoyable discussion... And I haven’t even WATCHED the episode you’re discussing. And how I never need to. 😄
If I ever had the honor of appearing on this series (you know I’m not above strong hinting Mr Davies 😄) it would definitely have to be for a multi-Doctor story.
Maaate, we'll just throw on Day of the Doctor or Twice Upon.
DAVIS - bring on sexist-old-man Doctor!
@@CulturePhilter It's a date. I'll be bawling whichever one you pick.
Damn, I can't tell if that was a joke against Tharries at 0:14.
It was genuine! It was more a subtle joke because I was also on his podcast haha
Davies is objectively not wrong.
Regardless of whether one thinks Twin Dilemma is good or not, the majority of the fans hated at the time, and more importantly, Michael Grade likely saw this episode, and decided: "I will kill this show".
The problems that the fans hates in this were made worse in the next season according to the fans, the ratings were very so slightly worse, the violence in the next season became an easy scapegoat, and all that combined allowed Grade to put the show on ice, putting the first true nail in the coffin of Classic Who.
I actually love 6 in the twin dilemma- I just hate the rest of it
