Agreed. Find an attorney. Clear violation of the law.
Unfortunately, most dealers have binding arbitration agreements on purchases with verbiage that protects the manufacturer too. I don't think they'll hold up in court though.

I have a 2008 Kia Rondo. At 150,000km the timing chain jumped. The Kia Dealer told me that the chain came off and the piston smashed all my valves (zero compression in all cylinders (2.4 engine) ) and that the engine was "Blown". They advised me that there were no "new engines" available but they could secure and install a rebuilt engine for $10,000. Being mechanically minded, I had my car towed home and I took the engine apart myself. I discovered that the 2.4 engine is a non-interference engine, meaning that the pistons cannot reach a fully open valve, therefore my valves and pistons were 100% good. I called the Kia Dealership to complain, they sent the head mechanic to my home to inspect the engine. He blamed a junior mechanic for the error and handed me the new gasket kits and head bolts to put it back together. I then paid $100 for a new timing chain and fixed the car myself. Rondo now has 250,000km and is still running. Just replaced the timing chain again.

Sounds like a service advisor, there job is to lie to you and get work. This give the mechanic hours at full pay since most kia hyundai tech get 1/2 or 3/4 pay of a job because it's warranty work and service advisor get paid commission off sell. They taught us that in mechanic school, that service advisor are not supposed to know about cars to con you into expensive repairs but they can't always lie as it's legal thing. Example:Reasons why they are always saying we recommend to to repair this instead of you need to repair this, mostly on spark plugs that only have 30k miles but the Manuel says the manufacturer says there good for 60 or 80k miles.

I would have Amazon auto ship my oil filter and oil every 8 months (I work from home so I don't put as much miles as I did before). I had to provide receipts of all the purchases and I am happy that I logged my oil changes in the car manual maintenance log. Swaybars don’t break on 7 year old cars with 65k miles on it. If it did need replacement it’s only $300 and 1-2 hrs labor. They count on their customer base having more money, little knowledge about cars and just approving everything they say to fix. Be wary for anything they needs to be fixed. They try to get you when you bring it in for the every 5k checks and 10k oil changes.

Make sure you take it in for the recall and get the knock sensor installed. My 2014 Sonata’s engine failed in July at 130,000 miles. Took 6 weeks, but Hyundai replaced the engine. If I get another 100k out of it that will be nice. Another issue with Hyundai/Kias are the thefts. Our car insurance rates jumped 40% and my agent couldn’t get quotes from other providers. They were not writing new auto policies due to the thefts.
It’s too bad, because I actually like my sonata. I was considering a Genesis for my next car, but now I don’t know. It took a lawsuit for Hyundai to do the right thing.

True, but they back them up for 10 years or 100,000 miles. We had our engine go in our Santa Fe at about 8 years and 75,000 and got a brand new engine in a car that is in like new condition. We had a brand new loaner for 3-4 weeks----so took a few extra trips in it. And I believe they have upped the warrantees for the cars with the poor engines----by about 2 more years. I had a beautiful Olds Cutlass that had the transmission fail at 13,000 miles----and I had to pay because it was 1000 past warranty. But a class action lawsuit got me 80% of my money back.

No questions asked. Three weeks later we had a new engine, hoses. radiator and many other things. The cost said 9500 dollars-----and we paid about 100 in deductibles. So backing them up with no hassles is nice. They have increased the warrantee to 12 years on some of their problematic engines. And yes----Kia has been picked as the best auto in initial claims. My Old's transmission went at 13,000 miles----in the 1980's.

I was warned by my excellent salesman to always bring it to a Hyundai dealership for oil changes and transmission service and do it religiously - never be late over the recommended miles. That way if for some reason this new engine is problematic they won't be able to deny a claim. It may sound crazy that I even bought it, but it was such a nice car and I test drove all the competitor's models (RAV4, CRV, Mazda CX50, VW Tiguan, Mitsu Outlander). It happened to me. I bought a brand new Hyundai Sante Fe in 2015. It was not even a year old. I was driving from Austin, TX to my hometown outside of Shreveport, LA. There are no interstates between the 2 cities so alot of back roads/high ways. I was driving down one of these roads when I heard a clinking sound. I noticed I could not get over 60 miles an hour. I called my friend in Austin to ask him should I pull over...he told me keep driving until I couldn't drive anymore. Finally, I made it home. Took it to the dealership in Shreveport, LA and they stated it was some metal shavings in the engine and that they would replace the engine free of charge. I asked did they plan on doing a recall? The Service Tech said they were going to take them as they come in. So, like this video...some people are driving around as 2nd owners of these cars who might not know about the free engines. Hyundai had my vehicle for over a month because the engine had to come from Korea or something like that and there were 13 cars before me. I can say I still have the vehicle, but have not had major problems since then.

Plus the fact that my insurance company increased my rate by almost 30%, which I'm sure is related to the high theft issues. I'm finally selling it even though it's in totally mint condition and I have personally had no issues. An online auto retailer is buying it for about 48% of what I paid for it new 7 years ago. Be careful with Honda. Do your research. I have owned them in the past with excellent results, but the last 6 years or so,,,,. Two relatives both had high oil consumption. One traded his CRV in on a Mazda CX5. The other said the dealership (stealership) said the consumption was normal. She said she trusted the dealership and none of the online horror stories. She suffered mild frostbite to her hands before the tow truck or family (me) could get to her when the engine went and she was way out in the countryside!! It was -35C with wind chills in the -55C (-68F) range. We warmed her up in the truck & had extra blankets etc to warm her up. She is ok now, but has numbness in her finger tips.
She is fighting with the dealership over the motor under warranty. She now drives a 2022 Subaru Crosstrek. I have met with the dealership and they are treating her better. She is my niece. Her parents are kinda timid. They are going to replace the engine under warranty at last, but they won’t extend the warranty. The CRV will be sold once she gets it back. The poor service isn’t Honda’s fault. The engine failing prematurely, is. Honda has had some reliability issues as of late and unfortunately, both of the only family members with Honda’s, both CRVs, have had engine issues. Toyota,,,, hard to beat. I say this not exactly liking Toyota, but that’s just a quirk of mine.
Good luck, but remember, things change over time. In 2006-2009 if you had a 2.7 V6 from Hyundai/Kia, you had a very good vehicle!! The4 cylinder from then wasn’t too great. They have gone downhill since, it seems.

I got rid of a Hyundai 2016 with the same engine that is in this you tube video. Between that potential loss and the cars are high theft targets, and the fact that I found out first hand, that 'insurance companies woud NOT insure it, when I tried to renew recent, that was enough for me. I did not get the Honda with the small displacement turbo charged engine. We have a 2015 sonata with the 2.4l engine. At just 116k miles the engine randomly started misfiring and the check engine light came on while driving down the highway. After limping it home I got the car scanned and it showed a misfire in the 3rd cylinder. After attempting small fixes like spark plugs and plug wires I decided to take it to Long Hyundai, this was my second mistake aside from buying a junk Hyundai in the first place. I stopped taking our car there for oil changes initially because I found an oil filter I had changed the last time still on the car after I paid them for an oil and filter change. With the car at Long, Chris from service stated it had no compression in the 3rd cylinder and it needed head work ($5300), but was pushed to do an engine replacement which was quoted to me at $7-8k, that I would be responsible for. After trying and getting no real diagnosis on the actual problem and a very difficult time trying to communicate with the service department, I picked the car up and coughed up the $200 “diagnostic” fee for nothing. Once I picked up the car I finally got the service report and the diagnosis was “blown head gasket.” I did not have a single symptom of a blown head gasket- no coolant in the oil, no overheating, no smoke out of the exhaust, coolant was clean in the over flow tank with no bubbling.
I immediately drove to S&S Auto for a second opinion and they quickly found metal material in my oil and no symptoms of a head gasket issue. Long either completely missed this or did not want to tell me. I personally saw the shavings in the oil when I picked it up from S&S. They advised me about the warranty campaign Hyundai has on the 2.4liter engines and they didn’t charge me anything for the diagnostics. After doing my own research I decided to take it back to a dealership to have them handle the situation. I called the service director-John- at Long Hyundai to explain the situation and told him I was taking the car to a different Hyundai service center to reassess. He did not care that I was taking it to another dealership after Long has misdiagnosed the issue. John just told me, “Well let me know what they find.” (Tried getting a hold of him multiple times since and have never gotten a call back)
After moving the car to a third shop, this time Mnt View Hyundai, which is about an hour from my house, I talked to Brian about what was going on and he stated they have been cleaning up a lot of issues from Long. After he had the car for a couple of days he stated he had found the metal shavings in the oil and that the car was misfiring and it should be taken care of under Hyundai’s warranty campaign 953 for excessive bearing wear on the crank. He went back and forth with Hyundai Motors America and I had to give them all my receipts for the oil changes I had done and they stated that my issue was not covered under warranty since my engine wasn’t knocking or locked up yet (basically because it hadn’t left me stranded on the side of the road), but that they would cover 85% of the replaced engine. After fighting for another week and hours on the phone with Hyundai’s warranty departments and Hyundai customer care with no resolve, I had agreed to cover the 15% that Hyundai wouldn’t cover. I was still mad they wouldn’t cover 100% from their own warranty, but it was better knowing Long was going to charge me $7-8k. Brian helped me get a rental car covered from Hyundai since some of the items were on back order. I was very grateful for that since I hadn’t had the car for two weeks at this point.
A couple weeks later Brian called me and stated the car should be ready in a day or two and suggested random replacements, like air filters and brakes (all I take care of myself and have receipts on the last time I changed them) I picked up the car and paid my 15% of the cost which ended up being $828. I told him I wanted a test drive, no offense to him or the dealership, but I can’t trust anyone. Upon entering the vehicle I noticed the abs light and traction light on and the blind spot detection wasn’t working. I took it for a drive and went back and talked to Brian about that, stating there was no issue with this when I brought it. He had a tech sheet stating they ran the code when they got the car and it was on. I asked why it was never brought up to me while the car was in his shop for almost 3 weeks. He stated the tech ran some tests and stated it was operating properly and didn’t want to sell me a part I didn’t need. I stated having the abs and traction light on could be dangerous and could malfunction and he stated “it won’t lock up” and “it’s fine”. However, he did offer to fix the issue for free labor and I pay for the part, which was $360. I told him I wasn’t giving Hyundai any more money and drove my car home with all three of those lights on my dash. I am glad the car has a new engine and Brian did help me out with a lot of things, but there are still issues that should have been taken care of that just weren’t. The last month with the car and dealing with all of Hyundai has been beyond frustrating and I now have a car I don’t trust or feel safe in. They have definitely lost me and my family as customers and I hope anyone reading this will think twice before buying anything made by Hyundai.

Law or not, I was shopping around for a new car. That Hyundai/Kia 10 year power train warranty LOOKS good. But google the terms and you'll find that to GET that 10 year warranty, it HAS TO BE SERVICED at a Hyundai/Kia dealership. Now, I know all about the part where legally you don't have to. The part I don't know about is the EXTENDED power train warranty part, beyond the standard bumper to bumper that all new cars come with. And I've heard that regular service appointments at the dealership will run $125 AND MORE each time. But I suspect that if even with the standard 3 or 5 year bumper to bumper warranty, your life will be less complicated when you have a claim IF you did take it to the dealership. In 2005 I bought a new Dodge 1 ton dually diesel. I took it in for a recall at about 25k miles. The service tech spotted a Wix oil filter I was using to do my own servicing. He said that not using a Mopar filter would likely give them a reason not to honor and engine claim. Bottom line is they all will look for a way out on an individual basis, anything to deny a claim. If you buy new, my feeling is take it to the dealer to service at regular intervals, no more than 4k to 5k miles even if it says 7.5k. Make your life a little less hell if you have a problem. I bought a Ram 2017 4x4. I always had it serviced at the dealership until the warranty ran out. Now I do it myself and the truck has 31k currently.

THAT's the key. Several makes are using oil now because of designs intended to meet Fed regulations. The GM products especially beginning around 2008 through late teens ALL seemed to use oil. They would last longer if people would just check the oil, keep it topped...but they dont. I have a friend with a quick oil change business. A lady with a couple kids, regular customers, came in while I was there. It was a Chevy Traverse. Out of curiosity, I went into the bay to see him check the oil before he got to work. NOTHING on the stick. And he said it's not the first time. Even if it uses a quart every thousand miles, owner's would get a lot more usage if they'd just check the dang oil at least weekly.

They replaced it with a remanned engine and charged me 400.00 dollars copay. I have always changed my own oil, but I thought I am going to have the oil changed here in case there is a problem. Every time I had it changed I would check it the next day after it sat all night. Every time it seemed to be over filled. Next thing I know it develops an oil leak. Took it to the dealer and they said the oil pan gasket was leaking. So, I assume they will pull the pan clean the surfaces new gasket, good to go. Nope they replaced the oil pan and gave mee a bill for 400.00. Since it has that engine cover under the engine, and I did not pull it to have a look, just went by oil on the floor under I will always wonder if maybe the employee may have cross threaded the drain plug and did not want to own up to it but instead had me pay for their error. • @user-3tf67bk46u
      @user-3tf67bk46u 8 місяців тому

Direct injection is found on naturally aspirated and turbo engines. It is becoming harder to stay clear from because the EPA is a corrupt, dishonest organization that spews untruths about the environment that often is so scientifically untrue, it's reprehensible because they cost the economy trillions of dollars based on salespeople who have an organizated high paying job agenda. They have presidents and prime ministers on speed dial.
Direct injection (bad) combined with port injection (the old fashioned good and still available in some older tech cars.. Pentastar 3.6 V6, some Hyunkia's and just here and there.
Toyota does tout the use of their AT4s system that uses both. The port injectors are supposed to spray in such a way the backs of valves get washed of carbon instead of it building up. It sort of works but not as perfectly as channel creators like The Car Care Nut and many other Toyota guys would have you believe. And what's worse, they cost a fortune in extra engine tech..twice the number of injectors and even many special parts that are 'one-use' parts and must be bought new as soon as the system is breached for any reason due to the extremely high pressures involved unlike port injection. Furthermore, as more scam is revealed, those engines that start to misfire from carbon buildup (can vary but usually north of 50-60k miles (98k km) must be serviced using various methods of crack walnut shells under high pressure and hard to rid the engine of walnut debris after, to highly toxic chemical cleaners that when levels of toxins and the diabolical level of poison going out into the atmosphere out the exhaust from the level of severe corrosive chemical reaction needed to remove baked on carbon. This process is so much more damaging than the absolute minute emissions that modern day ICE engines expell with port injection that get not even 1 mpg poorer mileage. It's just a LOT of political corrupt agendas by all involved. It costs the manufacturers huge, and they just pass these costs onto the consumer. And they don't mind because these dir inj systems just don't last like the old port system with their relative simple affordable tech by comparison. And don't require the ongoing expensive maintenance which damages the environment much more when all factors are weighed. I didn't mention any of the other ramifications of these GDI systems like the high extremely pressure fuel pumps and their complication in how they use power and wear and tear from the engine cam lobes, accessibility, and/or chain drives, all of which add costs, complexity, engine bay crowding (which raises maintenance charges do to more time used to service) etc etc etc. Tech has gone too far now. It used to be very good and improving but now it's become dishonest and not your friend in the world where capitalism is king..at ANY cost to us the consumer. You won't hear info like this because nobody wants you to know the truth. Well, I do and is why I'm spending the effort to educate here. I only ask that you tell your friends and family so they can dig and do their own research. If they search the right sources you'll discover much more details to what I've tried to condense here. Whatever you don't, don't listen to the evening news as they only reiterate what they're told and that just contributes to dishonesty and ignorance.
Lastly, Toyota has sold licensing to allow their dual injector use for certain other car brands but depending on engine in that brand it is not used exclusively. They sell to some Ford engines (yes including the ecoboost disasters in their own right with poorly designed cooling passages between cylinders and consequent ongoing head gasket issues) and to Subaru in some of their boxers (Toyota owns .. I forget, 20 or 25% of Subaru?) and certain others.
Hope this helps. Many won't even read this because it's more than 4 lines long, in typical YT fashion. If you got this far, good on you for wanting to be more informed about some truths about your car that is not always easy to find out.
Very happy you were treated right with your Elantra. Some dealers are great and others leave you lost. Such is big industry and capitalism. The more informed a car owner is, the better your chances of getting treated properly.
One last aside.. I recommend changing your oil and OEM filter every 5k miles and in some cases..short trips in the winter, and turbo'd engines etc..even at 3k miles is better still. Always oversee who does it..that they actually reinstalled a new filter and lubed the sealing gasket correctly, the put the drain plug back in and did not overtighten and strip threads and of course that they actually put new oil back in and the correct amount and not overfilled which will put undue pressure on your engine's oil sealing gaskets and cause it to have premature oil leaks. This is all if you pay an oil change joint..

I tried kia once.... Bought a fully loaded Sportage sx and it started having issues with cylinder 2. 5 visits with them only wanting to replace the sparkplug. Then they figured out the problem. A control module needed replaced. Then the cat needed replaced and tey tried to deny that because i kept driving the car between visits for the issue with the spark plug. But they are the ones that said to keep driving it unless the check engine light started to flash.. Had to call the HQ to get them to warranty it.
I won't even mention how I got their service plan for 3 years of oil changes... Each scheduled visit there were only one or two cars ahead of me. Still took almost 2 hours every time for an oil change. A few times they went ahead and replaced air filters and tried to make me pay for work I didn't ask for.

Fight it. Look up how all of the parts are connected. Valves are apart of the engine block. Which if you have the ksds update then according to Kia's settlement paperwork you're pretty much covered. Don't let them tell you that your vehicle isn't covered because it isn't throwing rod bearing codes. It takes more than reading engine codes to get to the bottom of things. Your pistons are moved by your rod bearings and pistons with bad clearance can damage your valves and guess what? It's apart of the engine block assembly outlined in the settlement. Rod bearings was not the only thing listed in that settlement.
