@@jwuhome It's completely unfair to say it was only because of his camera. I don't recall them being shown on camera. The warranty is offered by Kia, not the dealer, and the dealer gets reimbursed for the parts and service of all warranty work. The dealer is responsible for making sure the terms of warranty are enforced, such as proper maintenance being done. I don't think that auto manufacturers should have to pay for warranty service on cars owned by people who don't maintain them (usually just oil changes), because that drives up the cost of providing warranty service for everyone who does do proper maintenance, and those costs eventually get passed on to consumers.

@@alexsanabria9194 Using 0W-20 is best for fuel mileage and for EPA certification of the car, but using 5W-30 is best for engine longevity, especially for a 4-cylinder turbo in warmer climates. When you start paying for your own oil changes, I would make sure and use a full synthetic (any cheap brand is OK). While the dealer is providing free oil changes, I would ask them if they are using synthetic, and if not, how much would it cost to upgrade to synthetic.

I bought a used 2011 Sonata from a Hyundai dealer with 144,000 miles for my daughter. About 3 months later rod bearings went. Even though it was way out out of warranty and sold as-is, they replaced the entire engine, and gave us a rental free. Took about 2.5 months as they had to wait for crate engine to get shipped over. I paid $0. Was extremely happy with how they took care of us.

I was sick to my stomach when I first figured out the engine was shot. Sounded like a garbage disposal. My daughter still teases me a little about my mental breakdown. The dealership submitted it to Hyundai anyway to see if they would approve it and they did.
I had pretty much expected them to tell me to go pound sand and told my daughter we were likely going to need to start looking at getting a different car. Federal Courts have rules AGAINST manufacturers saying that oil changes etc can be done by service outside the Manufactures dealership network. So you can go to Jiffy Lube, or change your own oil.. but you MUST SAVE YOUR RECEIPTS.... You got very lucky. This time. As a used car dealer any car you take in, that is still within the warranty period... You better prey all maintenance was done on time and at a authorized dealer, or there is a glovebox full of jiffy lube receipts... Toyota is the WORST for voiding warranties without proper receipts.

A few family members and myself have owned or still own Hyundais but none of us have owned Kias. Overall the Hyundai ownership experience for most family members has been great, and they have been some of the most reliable vehicles we have ever driven, including 2 family members who bought 2006 Sonatas. Not sure what it was but that particular model year, those '06 Sonatas were great, one making it through 13 Chicago winters and was finally was traded-in during 2019, and the other Sonata lasted 16 years and was traded in during 2022 for another Hyundai.
The exception to this was my sister-in-law who purchased a 2016 Sonata Hybrid, that car was a disaster. Over the last couple years, that Sonata broke down a few times while commuting on busy roads, and then was towed back to the dealership. This particular Hyundai dealership in the Chicago area was notoriously crappy when it came to customer service and meeting repair deadlines, which they constantly had to revise and push out, causing much more inconvenience to schedules.
Earlier in 2023, at around 122,000 miles there was some discussion this 2016 Sonata Hybrid might need a new engine, and that Hyundai Motor America was going to determine if they were going to assist with some of the cost of the engine replacement. My sister in law had enough of Hyundai's BS and dumped the Sonata Hybrid for a Subaru earlier in 2023.
Another contributing reason why my sister in law would not consider buying another Hyundai was that the pathetic customer service at this Hyundai dealership, and constant delays getting her car repaired. The dealership was also extremely unreliable in addition to the Sonata Hybrid.
I have definitely seen a lot more issues with Hyundai/Kia over the last couple years, where some of their vehicles don't have adequate security making it way too easy to car thieves to steal their vehicles. That and some vehicles having the risk factor of catching fire, and where it's been advised that Hyundai/Kia owners don't park their vehicles in the garage.
While I currently still own a 2020 Elantra and so far this car has no issues and has good reliability, you can't help but see all these issues with Hyundai/Kia and be concerned. Thankfully my Elantra has a push button start versus the regular turn-key ignition so it's not at risk for theft. But still I am thinking my next car will be a Honda, Toyota, or Subaru, or I might even go back to Mazda.

you want a cheap well appointed vehicle with a great warranty, why not? Other makers sell the same garbage without a long warranty.
BTW: didn't need a new engine, needed a turbo.
Me: You don't know why people buy a kia? I don't know why ppl buy fords, specially with the eco boost. Those things have all sorts of issues and once the warranty is up at 3 yrs, you're fubar. (they have major issues with carboning of the valves due to the pvc system).

It didnt need a new engine, it needed a new turbo. It needed a new turbo because some one over filled the crank case by at least two quarts. It also needed a new fuel injector, which can happen to any brand of car, as there are only a handful of OEM injector manufacturers. And Kia paid to fix it all. Good luck getting ford, gm, or fiat chrysler to pay for something caused by lack of or improper maintence. We buy repair and sell an average of 50 vehicles a month, and have great luck with Hyundai's and Kia's. Better than a lot of other brands we also sell.

My experience with Hyundai has been a nightmare, I’m burning oil for 2 years , I have all my oil changes submitted, I even paid a 4200$ extended warranty that flaps in the wind , my warranty covers nothing , failing engine , destroyed exhaust system , no climate control , power windows stopped working, transmission issues and my 4200 warranty is routinely sidestepped, it has never kicked in for anything wrong on that car top to bottom , I hate my Hyundai

Suppose the Kia had been brought in for this legitimate warranty repair as a “dealer car”, and suppose coverage was refused for that reason. However, if the dealer then simply gave up and sold the Kia “as is” the new owner would be entitled to warranty coverage.
So as the earlier commenter said, ultimately Kia is responsible. They weren’t ripped off, but Craig spared the new owner considerable risk and hassle at no hardship to the dealer or the Kia manufacturer.
