I've been knitting for most of my life and decided I wanted to learn crochet. After a week of absolutely failing to be able to do a single stitch, I found this tutorial, and I was finally able to make a chain. A million thanks!
I took really well to learning a slip knot. My sis already does this and gave me white yarn to practice with. Im making the world's longest tampon string!
whoever is reading this and you feel like giving up, just know that it will be worth it when you make your first successful project! Remember no one knows how to do something at first, you have to learn and it can take time! Good luck and know you CAN DO IT!!
To anyone reading this, it gets easier!!! I practiced tying a slip knot about 30 times. And I tried chaining 10 about 15 times. It does get easier! At first my yarn was too tight and then too loose. Then I couldn't work out how to hold the yarn. I finally got it all working smoothly... only to forget how to yarn over only a few hours later! It's now been a few days and things are becoming familiar. I've done maybe 20 minutes of practice every day and it's working! And I'm enjoying it! It needs patience but so much fun when you make progress! This video is magical, thank you soooooo much!

I just found out that I am going to be a Grandma in late April 2021. So I want to start making blankets and clothes for my grandchild. Yeah!. We knitted and crocheted back when I was a girl in grade school. We made items, mainly blankets, some girls in the older grades made socks and sweaters, we sent it off to the War effort in Vietnam. I did make a few items for my children when they were babies, but that was over 45 years ago now. So I needed to brush up on the techniques. This looks easier in the video than when i try it in real life Edit: Wooah ty for the likes. Btw I learnt how to make a crochet square now so just keep trying 😊
Have been crocheting for 30+ years. Great video! She shows beginners how to wrap the yarn around their little and pointer fingers! Notice that her little finger opens and closes a little bit sometimes. The little finger controls the flow of yarn to either; remain the same, slow down, or speed up. If you think you’re crocheting too loosely tighten up your little finger a bit. If you think you’re crocheting too tightly, open your little finger a bit and relax your shoulders. An indentation on your pointy finger means you’re either crocheting too tightly or your yarn is rough/scratchy.

As I have returned to renew my skills, realize how tense I am, my stiches are very tight which is presenting problems. Need to learn to chill out! Thank you for your videos.

It has so inspired me, to see that I can remember. And this time I will keep it up! Don't give up. Thank you for these great videos x
I have tried and failed several times to learn to crochet and am ecstatic that I am now looking at my first line of successful crochet stitches, all thanks to your really clear, step, by step teaching. I even managed to convert them for my being left handed. Looking forward to the next video when I'm a bit more practised. Thanks so much!
Your very welcome, I do all the beginner tutorials in left handed as well so if you check me out on youtube and type in bella coco crochet for beginners left handed they will come up in a list. Hope this helps 🙂
Thank you SO much for this video! I am a knitter and wanted to learn how to crochet. I bought a learn to crochet kit that comes with video's to learn, well those videos sucked! The instructor was explaining and showing the single crochet( i am from us), but whatever she was showing, my chain was getting all twisted and looked like a tangled MESS! I was getting very frustrated and wanted to give up. Then I found your tutorial...AWESOME you made this fun for me to learn, I picked it up right away. Thank you.
@@xoxxosam omg ye I made a tiny mushroom it's so cute. It took me a while tho bc I had to redo it it a few times until I got the hang of it, also bc I kept losing count of how many stitches I'd done
truly, most tuts are real struggle for me bc of all the remembering I have to do but combined with the accent and instructions, I'm having a great learning experience
Thanks, I made my first chain because of you! (; Edit: after 42 minutes, I'm now even BETTER at this skill, and now I feel really happy. Thanks once again!
Thank you for explaining so well and slowly! Other instructors move so fast, it's hard to track my eyes with what's happening to the yarn and hook, but you do a nice job of making sure the viewer has plenty of chance to see all of the steps.
Oh boy I've learned from so many people how to do a slip knot and I could never get it to stick. And then here comes you with THE SIMPLEST METHOD EVER!!! Thank you so much❤
I have pretty small hands so hand position is a huge struggle for me. I have tried multiple different sources to learn how to crochet but none of them worked and I have given up so many times. I watched this video and managed the slip-knot on the second or third try and even picked up on the chain fairly quick as well. Thank you so much! 💛
I have wanted to learn how to crochet for ages just never gave it a try until today. Your videos and instructions are so clear. The chain was a bit of a struggle but I finally did it. Going to practice before I move on to the next step! Thank you so much x
I've always wanted to learn how to do crochet and now i have enough time on my hands due to Covid 19 is the perfect time for me to learn . I've subscribed to your channel and will be on here everyday now so Thank You .
For anyone who is struggling right now I know how you feel I was really having a hard time last week but I didn’t give up and now I’m doing super good so my message to you is don’t give up and you can do hard things just keep trying you got this 😊
Quarantine got me trying all kinds of new things... One day I was just laying in bed and thought *"I wonder how hard it is to crochet..."* And here I am...
What the heck. This is so simple. Why the heck did I think it was one of the most complex things ever. I LOVE IT OMG??? New special interest unlocked, this will be so useful for doing projects with my recycled yarn. Thank you, you are amazing and have a great day.
I always thought that crocheting would be hard(which it currently is for me), but it’s turning out to be a lot better and easier than I thought! My friend already knows how to crochet, and she made me something which got me into crochet. I thank her so much for that, haha. I thought I might have to watch multiple videos, but no, yours made my first experience wonderful❤
I remember watching this 5 months ago learning how to chain. Now I have made my onw tutorial on how to crochet! edit: i posted this a year ago 😭 im a lot better now lmfao also 666 likes 💀
i randomly wanted to start learning to crochet and cant really find an answer to a question. does every crochet project start with a chain or are there other ways to start? and congrats on your business!
For those struggling with the slipknot, watch at 0.5x speed. There's a point where the yarn goes to the other finger which I was missing. Very clear when slowed down
I found these videos a few years ago and they helped me and I felt confident, but due to unforeseen circumstances, I had went from an absolute beginner confident at making chains and slipnots to the beginning and struggling. I'll give it my all. Thank you for your calm voice and tutorial. Even if I can only end up making a chain, it's great to fidget with!
I remember watching this over 2 years ago completely clueless about crochet but since then I’ve improved so much since if I haven’t seen this video I would’ve given up on crochet by now
Thanks for explaining from the absolute beginning, I’m doing bag Mats for homeless people and haven’t been able to find an instructional video that didn’t start from the middle, you totally rock chick! Thank you, I appreciate you.
Thank you for explaining everything so thoroughly, even the different ways of holding the hook and yarn, this was a game changer compared to other tutorials I've watched 🙏🏻

I have never crocheted. I started watching your videos & then actually having a go & I'm obsessed! Just made the poppy & I'm really pleased with myself. Your videos are easy to follow & I can't wait to do more. Thank 💕 you
Just to put this out there, because I made a silly mistake and I suppose others might make the same: Make sure you make your slip knot the right way round. I did it the wrong way, which made it tighten when I pulled on the short end and it was nearly impossible to get past that first stitch...
@Hannat Balogun I assume you figured it out by now, but you gotta make the loop with the other end of the yarn. I don't know by heart which side, so I keep messing it up but then I can correct myself xD But like, if you make a loop with a short end and a long end (where the rest of the yarn is), you gotta put another loop through it and you can make that loop with either the long side or the short side and one of them is correct xD
@@lela5894 you can also just do the first loop with your fingers and then hook the second onto your crochet needle. It's kind of cheating, but you will be able to go on from there xD
tysm this actually helped! I just got a crochet kit but I'm an absolute beginner and it took me a while to finally make a chain and your tips rlly helped! :)
A few years ago I tried to crochet but found it difficult but a couple of weeks ago I thought I’d give it another go and thanks to your video I can now crochet a basic square so the next step for me is a granny square, thank you for showing me how to crochet.

It has so inspired me, to see that I can remember. And this time I will keep it up! Don't give up. Thank you for these great videos x
You are very welcome :)
Thank you.
You are very welcome and well done for not giving up :)
me watching this so I can make a crochet mushroom (eventually): 👁👄👁
Hey I’m not the only one!
Bee and a mushroom. I'm a simple human
same 👁👄👁
Any luck lol ? I need to know
@@xoxxosam omg ye I made a tiny mushroom it's so cute. It took me a while tho bc I had to redo it it a few times until I got the hang of it, also bc I kept losing count of how many stitches I'd done
I love how simple and straight forward this is! It isn't overwhelming at all!!
truly, most tuts are real struggle for me bc of all the remembering I have to do but combined with the accent and instructions, I'm having a great learning experience
I'm so glad that it has helped you :)
If this isnt sarcastic I’d be concerned
@@keira6361LMAO literally
i still can’t do it 😭 idk if my loop is too tight but i can’t make stitches
The fact that everyone else seems to be dying over this is somewhat comforting
Thanks, I made my first chain because of you! (;
Edit: after 42 minutes, I'm now even BETTER at this skill, and now I feel really happy. Thanks once again!
You're welcome :)
Thank you for explaining so well and slowly! Other instructors move so fast, it's hard to track my eyes with what's happening to the yarn and hook, but you do a nice job of making sure the viewer has plenty of chance to see all of the steps.
You're very welcome :)
HOW
I’m just here to make a Harry Styles cardigan Quarantine crochet squad where y’all at

hi
the things I do for this man
IM HEREEEE
I want to do that too !!
Oh boy I've learned from so many people how to do a slip knot and I could never get it to stick. And then here comes you with THE SIMPLEST METHOD EVER!!! Thank you so much❤
You're welcome :)
You are very welcome and remember that crochet is practice and patience so the more you do the easier it will become :)
i love slipknot, such a good band
I've always wanted to learn how to do crochet and now i have enough time on my hands due to Covid 19 is the perfect time for me to learn . I've subscribed to your channel and will be on here everyday now so Thank You .
You're very welcome

For anyone who is struggling right now I know how you feel I was really having a hard time last week but I didn’t give up and now I’m doing super good so my message to you is don’t give up and you can do hard things just keep trying you got this 😊
Well done for not giving up :)
Quarantine got me trying all kinds of new things... One day I was just laying in bed and thought
*"I wonder how hard it is to crochet..."*
And here I am...

When my mom taught me the first time, I loved it and so I crocheted a very long line that at the time, was two times the length then of my height

What the heck. This is so simple. Why the heck did I think it was one of the most complex things ever. I LOVE IT OMG??? New special interest unlocked, this will be so useful for doing projects with my recycled yarn. Thank you, you are amazing and have a great day.
You are very welcome :)
Have been a knitter for many years, giving crocheting a go, Bella s a fantastic teacher! Spring 2024
Ahh thank you so much :)
I'm so glad that it has been of help to you :)
I remember watching this 5 months ago learning how to chain. Now I have made my onw tutorial on how to crochet!
edit: i posted this a year ago 😭 im a lot better now lmfao also 666 likes 💀
You've made a business and a crochet bucket hat??!? No way
@@Br3po Woah I wrote this a while ago...YES I do still have my own business and I'm 10 😌
Same age as me . What's you YT chanel?
Amazing aw I want to learn so I can make a baby blanket haha
i randomly wanted to start learning to crochet and cant really find an answer to a question. does every crochet project start with a chain or are there other ways to start? and congrats on your business!
For those struggling with the slipknot, watch at 0.5x speed. There's a point where the yarn goes to the other finger which I was missing. Very clear when slowed down
oh my god thank you so much! I was struggling and about to cry 😭 God bless you and have a good day
@@pinkqqqhaha no problem! I was there too!
BLESS YOU. So helpful!!
That’s brilliant!!!
Or tie a slip not the other way, the simple way lol.
Please remember that the more you do the easier it will become so don't give up keep trying - good luck :)
She makes it look so easy!
I remember watching this over 2 years ago completely clueless about crochet but since then I’ve improved so much since if I haven’t seen this video I would’ve given up on crochet by now
Congrats! Love the pfp by the way
Thanks for explaining from the absolute beginning, I’m doing bag Mats for homeless people and haven’t been able to find an instructional video that didn’t start from the middle, you totally rock chick! Thank you, I appreciate you.
You're very welcome 🙂
Hi, was wondering if u could show us how u made those bag mats. Would be interested in doing the same thing :)
This was the only crochet tutorial that made me not give up on crocheting! Now I can crochet without getting frustrated. Thanks so much!
Am I the only 19 y/o boy here ??? 😂
I find these "feminine" activities /art really attractive 😍💐

Haha no need for me to make this anymore. My girlfriend's been cheating on me with my closest friend. Sick now I have a new hobby
Thank you for explaining everything so thoroughly, even the different ways of holding the hook and yarn, this was a game changer compared to other tutorials I've watched 🙏🏻
You are so very welcome :)
i’ve seen so many video and this one was the only one that i actually learned thank you !!
You are very welcome :)
I am so thankful that you were here. I was in desperate need of help because I went to my nanas house and she asked “have you done any crochet since we last saw”. I forgot how to and I felt so embarrassed and my mum just said that I lost the needle….

My coworkers gifted me a crochet kit for my 29th birthday yesterday. I am now officially starting my crochet journey! Thanks for this video!
You are very welcome and Happy belated birthday :)
This is literally my New Years resolution, well it’s a big part, lmao i wanna stop drinking and smoking so i wanna learn how to crochet to keep my mind focused on something more productive-ish and help me keep my sobriety🙏🏽💯
Hope it's going well! It's a great strategy to have something positive to do when cutting out something negative.
Hey I'm getting sober this year as well! How is it going for you? I'm thinking about buying some yarn and trying this crocheting thing. Would be nice to have something to do at the couch.
@@teshn1229 it was a big help for sure! I’ve been slacking late tbh but I’m tryna get back to it and also start back reading
@@zupik1894 honestly it was really nice when i was sticking to it, was a good way of keeping my hands busy other than rolling up every minute🙄and kept my eyes focused on something other than the tv🤷🏽♀️& i have been slacking recently but I’m getting back to it & you def can too…idk how long you’ve been sober but even if you get the urge (which is normal) just try to stay strong 💪🏽
@@jamuslaudat1716 i'm sober since January 7. There are ups and downs for sure. The key is to keep being focused on the ups.
Thank you!! I have had a crochet kit scene last Easter 😅
Me and my dad couldn’t get the first stitch so we gave up, and kind of forgot about it
But with a video it’s WAY easier. I’m planing on getting new yarn so I can make more things!
You are very welcome and good luck, remember that crochet is practice and patience :)
The best tutorial I've seen, so thoroughly explained and beginner friendly
Thank you, I'm glad it was helpful :)
NOT!@@bellacococrochet
My sister in law, bless her heart tried teaching me when I was newly married. I couldn't get it down to save my life. That was 15 years ago and now my daughter was gifted a knitting and crochet kit from her grandmother. Thank you for teaching!
You are very welcome :)
I have never crocheted. I started watching your videos & then actually having a go & I'm obsessed! Just made the poppy & I'm really pleased with myself. Your videos are easy to follow & I can't wait to do more. Thank 💕 you
You are very welcome and well done :)
Trash
The tutorial was very easy to follow! I spent 3 days trying to do a chain stitch but i did it successfully after watching this video once!
Glad it helped, good luck with your crochet journey :)
Just to put this out there, because I made a silly mistake and I suppose others might make the same:
Make sure you make your slip knot the right way round. I did it the wrong way, which made it tighten when I pulled on the short end and it was nearly impossible to get past that first stitch...
thanks, this was my exact problem as the slip stitch kept shrinking and making it impossible to even get it over the hook!!
@Hannat Balogun Did my very vague explaination help? xD
i’m confused i can’t figure out which was it right lol i know you explained but i’m so lost bro
You are very welcome, I'm glad I've helped :)
This is my second crocheting video I've come to and the comments sections just make me wanna cry and I haven't even started crocheting yet 🥲😅🤣
A few years ago I tried to crochet but found it difficult but a couple of weeks ago I thought I’d give it another go and thanks to your video I can now crochet a basic square so the next step for me is a granny square, thank you for showing me how to crochet.
You’re very welcome 😊
Hi 👋I am sorry if this sounds weird but you wrote such a nice and interesting comment on here and I like it. Obviously you are a positive person. If it’s alright with you I’d love to be friends.
Oh my goodness this was the fourth "learn to crochet" video that I tried and I was just about ready to give up as it just wasn't working for me but FINALLY IT MAKES SENSE!!!! Seems I just needed to find the right way of holding the yarn that would work for me 😊 Excited to start turning my chain into a square now ❤
I'm glad that it was helpful and remember that crochet is practice and patience so keep trying and it will get easier :)
I've been *attempting* to learn to crochet and this is my go to channel for it. I love how you explain everything so nicely.

Awesome tutorial! I got it within a few minutes, the biggest help was not pulling too tight, I’ll be using your tutorials from now on
Thank you so much :)
Thank you for this video. I have 2 daughters and one is what I call my sensory child. I thought this would be fun for all of us but especially enjoyable for her. This is just what we needed to start learning. Very detailed but simple and slow enough for us to see whats going on. Thank you.
You're very welcome :)
This is a first for me but it's never too late to learn (I'm a senior citizen). Okay! I need to get some wool and a hook! I'll be back soon!
