Can I just say, I started crocheting 3 days ago, and I have the basics. I then stumbled across some of your videos to get a few more stitches under my belt, and you explained everything so beautifully. I decided to watch this one incase you explain anything further than what I’ve already learnt. Wow, instead of just telling people how to do things, you explain WHY, and I love that! Thank you
Exactly! I remember a job I had in my early employment days. Another young woman who was training me would never tell me why something was being done, no matter how obscure the method of executing a task might be. When I finally decided I could keep my mouth shut no longer, I finally asked if she could tell me why a particular thing was done the way it was. Omg, you'd think I'd just questioned a freakin Schutzstaffel!.... "WE DON'T NEED TO KNOW WHY; WE JUST DO IT!" Her words! Seriously! About knocked my socks off. I quit shortly afterwards, since *her* boss felt the same way. If a method or process feels even remotely unintuitive to me, I've always felt the strong compulsion to know why it's done the way it is. For me, knowing WHY just helps me understand the larger scheme of how things work. I like things to make sense.... always have.
@@serenumia that sucks lol, but you should try to make it. I recommend starting off with a magic circle (it’s easier then it sounds) and then doing a row of chains, and then just some single crochets or crochet increases
God THANK YOU. I've gone through SO many tutorials that were so unclear and didn't explain so many things; it was such a relief to finally come across this video and FINALLY have someone explain the things that seem obvious to someone who knows what they're doing.
I came here for a refresher I started crocheting a few years ago and haven’t picked it up in almost two years. I have watched a lot of videos in the past and what I appreciate most is how clear you speak and how SLOW you go to ensure we can follow along. THANK YOU!
I love how like 50% of the comments are about Harry’s cardigan and how we are all making it I mean we all know that if you are reading this you most likely are probably making it to lol
Oh man, started doing this today and was able to compleat my first strand, but I had no idea how to start the next row. I watched 20 different videos trying to figure it and and yours was the one to do the trick! Thank you so much!!!

You. You are a life saver. I've been knitting for about 15 years, finally decided to learn crochet-- I'm sick of spending a thousand years on a very limited variety of projects. Oh it will be so easy to learn from a UA-cam video! I'm a smart lady that can figure things out, I'll just watch a few videos and it will be simple! Uh. No. This is the first video I have found that answers all my questions and shows everything from the perspective of teaching a skill to someone with no background in this area rather than showing this to someone who already knows what they're doing. Can't thank you enough!!
I want to give you a deeply sincere thank you. I have been trying to learn to crochet all evening and your video was the one that helped me. I never got to learn from my grandmother and she's going through a very rough time right now and it's given me something to feel close to her while I sit with her. Thank you
OMGOMGMGOMG THIS WAS LIKE MY 5TH TUTORIAL VIDEO I WATCHED AND I FINALLY DID A LITTLE STRIP OF SINGLE CROCHET!!! TYSMM IM GONNA GO WATCH MORE OF UR TUTORIALS NOW :))))))
Thank you! For your UA-cam tutorials! My daughter has learnt how to "Crochet" from you and she also has a disability so it is inspiring her and sometimes she gets people saying she can't do things when she can thanks to you.
Raymond Holgate This lady has a soothing and non-condescending voice. And I love that she sort of speak has us viewing over her shoulder which helps tremendously. Hooray for your daughter!
I've been wanting to learn how to crochet for a while, and now that the world is on lockdown I have the time. I picked up one pack of yarn and one crochet needle at the store the other day, and started looking up "Crochet for beginners" videos on UA-cam. You are my 4th video and I won't be looking for a 5th! The videos I watched before were all over the place, didn't describe anything, use "correct" terminology ("that's what i say but that's not really what it's called") type of stuff. NOT HELPFUL AT ALL!!! I was about to just give up completely but I found your video and I think I'm starting to get it, even improving a bit! Thanks for your instruction, and also your voice is very soothing! I will keep watching until I'm a prefessional!!!
Dian Lajdziak hey Dian, this is Denise! I know that with everything going on right now it's easy to be frustrated about something simple! But just try to remember, everybody teaches differently! I'm glad that you finally found someone that you could understand instead of giving up!
This is exactly why happened to me!!! I was about to start crying like “I’m so awful I can’t even begin to learn how to do this”! Found this video and within 30 minutes could see my stitches getting tighter, I was holding it more comfortably 🥰 What a gem she is!!
I have found these tutorials enormously helpful. I did have to watch them through a few times because I am hopelessly forgetful but at 51 years old I can finally crochet and have just completed a baby blanket in pastel squares in single crochet. How satisfying :) I am about to progress to another stitch now I have cracked that one. My husband told me to give up at one point because of my frustration levels but I persevered and I'm so glad I did. The trickiest part was learning my own technique particularly the first chain as it's fiddly and you have to master how to hold the hook and wool that is comfortable for you but don't give up, you'll get there with it :) Thanks so much for posting these online. Lockdown has been grim at times but I have found learning a new skill has helped take my mind off it. Onward and upward - take care and stay safe all you crocheters xx
I am a self-taught knitter and want to learn crochet. After looking at other videos on UA-cam, I find yours to be the best Illustrated. Your calm demeanor is also an added bonus. Thank you so much for sharing your time and talent!
I’m really really struggling with this! Not sure why it’s so hard for my brain and hands to just be on the same page 😓 I wanted to learn to crochet so I can make Christmas gifts instead of spending so much money. But it’s proving more difficult than I anticipated. Thank you for a WONDERFUL video it has been the best one yet. Anyone reading this, WE CAN DO IT!!! DONT GIVE UP☺️
@prettyjewls ~ Don’t know if you’ll see this, I’m replying to your post from 10 months ago but hope you do❤ I’ve found that taking a break from a lesson and returning a month or even two later, the stitch clicks. As you wrote, DON’T GIVE UP❤
I just threw my yarn and hook across the room. I’m so frustrated. I can do chain.. then next phase but when I turn to do the row where it goes through two I can’t get it. I want to cry😢

I've been trying all week to learn how to crochet and have watched numerous videos...this by far is the easiest one to follow. So looking forward to making something.
I’ve had so many friends try to teach me to crochet, and I could never figure it out. This is not the first video I’ve watched, but it IS the first one that actually helped me. Thanks so much for slowing things down and going over things that may seem common sense but aren’t. It’s very appreciated!
If youre like past me, trying to learn crochetting but losing hope because youre failing, dont give up! i realised that my yarn was bad and then i watched this awesome wideo and learned sc (single crochet) with the first try! it might not work out by he first time for everyone, but keep going and dont give up friend!
This is the best learn to crochet video that I've come across. I've been through a handful and felt like I still had questions. The instructions are super clear, technique is clear all the questions I still had were answered in this video. I feel like I have a good grasp on the single crochet and I will be using her videos to learn all the other techniques. Also nice choice of colour on the yarn, I saw the stitches clearly! Seriously SO happy I found this!!!
Thank you! You're the first person to mention how the shaft creates the size of the stitches, and the way you hold your yarn is the only way I've been able to control the tension properly!
You make this SO easy to understand! Thank you. You speak at a slow but natural rate, you don’t try to shove every “if, and or but” into making a single crochet stitch. Thank you!
I am a total beginner. I watched two videos prior to this and didn't find them helpful for the pace and instruction I needed. This video was spot on. She not only explains what she's doing, she shows you how to fix mistakes and to back up. She shows her finger work slowly and clearly. Thank you!!!!
THE BEST TUTORIAL EVER !! Every other tutorial made me feel like an idiot while skipping half the steps in this video ! Tutorial makers take notes ! The clear and concise explanation that are evident of genuine understanding and care for the craft, the slowing down of faster parts to ensure that you're never confused, explaining little things like where exactly to place the hook when starting a new chain or how to go back and redo a part ! I've seen tutorials that claim to be slow and for beginners while they use technical jargon and speed through the basic steps ! This tutorial understands that when someone is watching a beginner video it's because they *don't* know how to crochet !
It's my second day of trying crochet and I had a huge progress from what I've started yesterday. I love how you explain, it really helped me catch up! ❤️
This was great, I am kind of self taught. I was shown about 42 years ago to make a granny square, which was my first ever project. Now I know how to work the yarn around my fingers to hold on to it with out being to tight on my fingers or sliding off my fingers. I could keep on telling you how much you have shown me., but it would be a book. When I get through all your classes I want to make a cardigan for myself . Love the way you teach, explain and show us how to do the stitches.Thank you 🖒⚘
I love ur teaching . I went through lot of videos but they confused me further, buts yours is the most detailed n u also teach the concepts so I can get a better idea . I have subscribed . Look forward to learning more crochet skills from u . U r awesome
Thank you so much for the explanation, I’m trying to learn to crochet for Valentine’s Day and I spent a whole night pulling my hair over “beginner” videos and this was the most concise and helpful video I could find!
Glad it was helpful! You can do this. Just keep practicing and things will get easier and more consistent as you go. All my best to you in your Valentine's project!
Thank you for your detailed walkthrough! Especially for how you take the time to actually explain WHY your hook/yarn has to be a certain way instead of just telling us WHAT we should do
i was really struggling to get the single stitch down and this video helped me tremendously. i was able to do 20 rows each except some point lost one and had 19 but i’m still proud i did it! and it doesn’t look half bad. thank you
This is so incredibly helpful to those who have never even dabbled in crochet before! I also appreciate the slow-motion replays in case we blinked and missed it! Saving this for later and thank you so much again!
I've gone through several different videos(I've never crocheted) and none of them made complete sense. This video, made it all click! Thank you so much!
Thank you so very much my older sister probably 30 years ago showed me how to crochet and I completely forgot she has passed I Can't ask her so thank you for putting this video up you remind me of her it's easier to learn when you like the person teaching you with much gratitude thank you and merry Christmas
Thank you for this!! I just started crocheting yesterday and heard the best thing to start with is a granny square. Ever since I have watched tons and tons of videos and they just didn’t seem to work for me. I messed up many times, until I came across your video!! Just to echo so many other comments, your beginner tutorial is AMAZING! Thank you so much for being such a good teacher. I am confident that I'll stick with your beginner series and finally learn how to freaking crochet!
everyone’s here because they’re making a cardigan and I’m no exception hahaha thank you so much for this video! it’s so easy to understand, clearly shows everything, and the slow motions recaps are so incredibly appreciated. also this channel name is the cutest thing ever!! 😭💙
This is a REALLY beginner friendly video! It's so detailed and well explained for me, even as someone who has no crocheting background at all! Love how slow mo replays are included so no details can be miss out :D
Thank you for this video (and series). I tried learning this stitch from other videos, but wasn't able to make sense of it at all. The way you slowly showed the steps involved and explained them all made this make a lot more sense to me, and helped me in feeling confident enough to complete your Basic Dishcloth pattern!
It is my first time to hold a crochet hook and a yarn, and I was encouraged by my friend who is now an expert to check in UA-cam how to crochet but not easy to find one who will teach you acvording to your level, I am obviously a beginner-actually if there is even a term lower than a beginner that will be me😊 I was so frustrated at first, please do not get me wrong, all of the UA-cam videos on how to Crochet for Beginners are all amazing, but I think we also all have that personality of you need to find the so called "The One" that also matches your energy and from there you know that is The One you've been looking for when it became easy for you to follow and your videos for Beginners made me feel that way, it became smooth sailing for me, even the way I hold the yarn and the Crochet hook is not anymore like I am carrying a "1 ton heavy metal" on me 😂😂😂 In those previous Videos I had, I was so frustrated, because it says for Beginners but I cannot comprehend and cannot follow at all, my shoulders and arms were even became stiff, i don't know why, maybe I was sooooo stress too, then your Video for Beginners came, I watched it and it was like magic that seems like I was just joking I don't know how to crochet!!! I would like to thank you for this Crochet Video for Beginners. By the way,I am one of your new subscriber now ❤❤❤
Thank you so much! I started crocheting a few days ago and I can now see where I was going wrong. (Too tight on the tension.) My left hand is still a sissy with the yarn, but I'm doing much better now. You are a good teacher!
My grandmother taught me to crochet/sew during summer visits when I was 7 yrs old. I must have been a very patient little girl & her a patient teacher. she made beautiful blankets for the church. Those memories with her have stayed with me all my life.
Thank you so much. I've been learning entirely off YT and for days I couldn't figure out why I was getting a funny line through my swatch as I was practicing. I kept going back and watching the tutorials from all the best crocheting channels and couldn't see where I was going wrong. Only when I came to YOUR video today and got to 10:35 where you very clearly explained that you put the hook through BOTH stitches of the chain did I realise where I was going wrong. No other video explained that for some reason. They went from showing you how to enter a single loop from the chain on your first row and then never explained on the next row that you want to go through both stitches of the chain. I hope that made sense, I just want to express how massively grateful I am for you and this video. If your next few videos are like this one I'll definitely be subscribing.
I started crochet 2 days ago and was struggling with keeping tension an always seemed to do my second row too tight, this vid has helped me a lot thank you..subscribed and liked

I've been trying to learn how to crochet for years. I've watched so many other tutorials, had a friend try to help, but it never made sense and I would end up with a big knot. I watched this video this morning and the way you explained it made everything click for me. I finished up my first square just a few minutes ago. It's wonky-looking for sure. I've got to figure out how to keep the tension on the yarn consistent and I added a stitch to the end of some of the rows so I'll have to go back and watch that part of the video again but I did it! Thank you!
Thank you so much for doing this slower. I so appreciate it and am confident now that I can follow along. I’d love to learn how to actually read a pattern and follow it. I’m new at crocheting. 🙂 Thanks again and God bless.
Oh my gosh, thank you SO MUCH for the detailed explanation!! I’ve been trying to learn how to crochet (and had my mom show me while she was visiting), but I needed a much slower tutorial. The book I bought helps some, but it’s not the same as watching someone crochet. The close ups & slow motion are extremely helpful!! It was like having you sit on the sofa next to me. 😁😁😁
Thanx for this video that shows samples of other stitch patterns next to each other at the same time in the same color yarn to compare from one sample stitch to the other next to it.

I’ll also cover in needle knitting and loom knitting the weeks after in case anyone wants to knit the cardigan. I LOVE that y’all are all making yours! Tag me on Insta @goodknitkisses I’d love to see your progress! 😁 Air hugs, Kristen
This is the absolute sweetest thing!! THANK YOU

THANK YOU
Yay! Thank you!

THANK YOU!

Oh man, started doing this today and was able to compleat my first strand, but I had no idea how to start the next row. I watched 20 different videos trying to figure it and and yours was the one to do the trick! Thank you so much!!!
I'm so glad I could help. Way to go on starting your crochet journey! You can do this :-)
@@GoodKnitKisses umm every time I do a not it will not work
@@ahmedb.9178 "do a not", do you mean your slip knot? There are several ways to make one. Let me know if that is the part you need help on and I can see how to direct you maybe to a different video

@@GoodKnitKisses im having the same problem as them, what happens is when i try and do the single stitch, the first one makes a knot and then when i inevitably mess up i have to restart entirely. is it supposed to make a knot?
Jessica Miller Thank you so much! I’m so glad it clicked for you. Way to go in your perseverance. ❤️❤️ How are things coming along?
YES! THIS! I just left a comment above ( I see your comment was a year ago but still, 100% exactly the way I feel!)
I want to give you a deeply sincere thank you. I have been trying to learn to crochet all evening and your video was the one that helped me. I never got to learn from my grandmother and she's going through a very rough time right now and it's given me something to feel close to her while I sit with her. Thank you
Wonderful! SO glad to have helped :-)
Don't forget to leave your chains loose
I love you
This is exactly why happened to me!!!
I was about to start crying like “I’m so awful I can’t even begin to learn how to do this”!
Found this video and within 30 minutes could see my stitches getting tighter, I was holding it more comfortably 🥰
What a gem she is!!
How are you self thought? Like how did that happen!?😂

This is the best learn to crochet video that I've come across. I've been through a handful and felt like I still had questions. The instructions are super clear, technique is clear all the questions I still had were answered in this video. Me and my mom very stressed and annoyed
ive watched like 47 videos on how to crochet and this is the only on that made me understand thank u !!!!
Thank you! You're the first person to mention how the shaft creates the size of the stitches, and the way you hold your yarn is the only way I've been able to control the tension properly!
No one does slow motion replays! You are a queen!
Watched tons of videos on single stitch and this is the only one that I understood and I am very grateful. 🙏🎉
Currently here to learn how to make something for my lovely friend and your tutorials are really comprehensive. Thank you, sorry I’m 5 years late lol
You’re right on time! I’m sure your friend will appreciate your thoughtfulness! So proud of you.
Love the way you teach, explain and show us how to do the stitches.Thank you 🖒⚘
Carolyn Watts you’re welcome, I’m soooo glad you enjoyed it and it helped!!

Glad it was helpful! You can do this. Just keep practicing and things will get easier and more consistent as you go. All my best to you in your Valentine's project!

Omg, genuinely can’t express how much the first 5 minutes have helped already! Ryan for sharing your patience and skill with us ❤️
Thank you for your detailed walkthrough! Especially for how you take the time to actually explain WHY your hook/yarn has to be a certain way instead of just telling us WHAT we should do
This is the best tutorial on UA-cam, i thought i just couldn't learn to crochet, but it seems i just needed a better teacher! Thank you!!!
i was really struggling to get the single stitch down and this video helped me tremendously. i was able to do 20 rows each except some point lost one and had 19 but i’m still proud i did it! and it doesn’t look half bad. thank you
This is so incredibly helpful to those who have never even dabbled in crochet before! I also appreciate the slow-motion replays in case we blinked and missed it! Saving this for later and thank you so much again!
I've gone through several different videos(I've never crocheted) and none of them made complete sense. This video, made it all click! Thank you so much!

It is my first time to hold a crochet hook and a yarn, and I was encouraged by my friend who is now an expert to check in UA-cam how to crochet but not easy to find one who will teach you acvording to your level, I am obviously a beginner-actually if there is even a term lower than a beginner that will be me😊
I was so frustrated at first, please do not get me wrong, all of the UA-cam videos on how to Crochet for Beginners are all amazing, but I think we also all have that personality of you need to find the so called "The One" that also matches your energy and from there you know that is The One you've been looking for when it became easy for you to follow and your videos for Beginners made me feel that way, it became smooth sailing for me, even the way I hold the yarn and the Crochet hook is not anymore like I am carrying a "1 ton heavy metal" on me 😂😂😂
In those previous Videos I had, I was so frustrated, because it says for Beginners but I cannot comprehend and cannot follow at all, my shoulders and arms were even became stiff, i don't know why, maybe I was sooooo stress too, then your Video for Beginners came, I watched it and it was like magic that seems like I was just joking I don't know how to crochet!!!

Out of all the beginner crochet videos I've watched, yours is the most helpful. Thanks, you got a new subscriber now 😊
My grandmother taught me to crochet/sew during summer visits when I was 7 yrs old.

Thank you!
Good for you 😊
Thank you so much for doing this slower. I so appreciate it and am confident now that I can follow along. I’d love to learn how to actually read a pattern and follow it. I’m new at crocheting. 🙂
Thanks again and God bless.
Maria L. Rapaglia Thank you so much for your kind words and feedback. Actually that is helpful for me in future videos. How is your crochet coming along?
OK I guess-hopefully with no mistakes.
