Actually, those things might not help the majority of us, but they do help the asset owning class. Whenever you hear politicians discuss "pro growth" policies, it's always the value of the assets that grow while the net worth of the rest of us remains relatively stagnant if you factor in real inflation.

"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience." - CS Lewis.

13:53 no. Hello sir! I do agree with you on many points but it's because I have come to realize you don't know the context in which the word "woke" is used. As per the internet definition of many sub groups : woke = anything that is pro-choice, pro-pedo, pro-lgbt, pro-communism, and DEI. I hope you can see now how this is a very problematic umbrella term. There are groups of very hateful people that take advantage of this trend of "relabeling". These people feel resentment for progress that western countries achieved and search for a regression. You can already see how my wording may already make you inclined to believe this is a matter of left vs right, when in fact it isn't.

    • @iconoclastic23
      @iconoclastic23 Місяць тому +79

Hey just a heads up, your notion of the term woke originating in 2014 is wrong by an order of magnitude. Woke has been an expression in black American vernacular English since the Jim Crow days. The expression "stay woke" basically meant to be aware of how other people perceive you as a black person and keep your guard up. An example of an early book about staying woke is the Negro Motorist Green Book, a guide published in 1932 about which businesses were safe to patronize as a black person and which were unsafe.

It’s so refreshing to listen to two people have a conversation and discuss such topics without judgement or anger or without having a preconceived answer ready without listening first.
People should be able to discuss topics where they may differ in opinions without necessarily wanting to WIN and often if they do that then they realise that both of their opinions are probably not as far from each other than they originally thought.
Great episode and congratulations and thank you to both of you

Such a great talk! Thank you for this! As a biracial woman from NL I remember going to Silicone Valley for a tech conference for work, I was in my early 20s, and I had never been exposed to that much racial and gender stereotyping in my life. It was meant to be “positive” but I felt so discriminated against because I’d never view myself or anyone else from the perspective of “a young black woman successful in the tech industry”. This awakening of my racial and gender differences did not feel good to me at all! All I wanted was to be recognised as an intelligent person who had worked hard to achieve that level in my career, my awards, etc. just like any other person in that role/ position. They thought they made me feel special but I only felt self-conscious and isolated from the others on my team. Suddenly I wasn’t a colleague anymore, I was THE ONLY “young black woman” on the team, hooray for me!!! Painful!

I would agree with that. I don’t quite fully agree with everyone that this guest is saying, placing the ideology of being a “victim“ on the people in which this perceived notions being placed. You were in a situation where you were being painted with the perceived notion. as a person of this country, I don’t like being called out or being made to feel different. I want to be treated the same. Expected the same level of work expected to perform at the same level. I want to be allowed to show up the same as my colleagues no matter what we look like and who we are. no excuses or descriptions or ideology should be giving on either side of the spectrum.
For that as a black woman in this country, I’m not being taught or made to believe that I’m a victim. It’s quite the opposite people want to believe that I’m a victim or that I’m an enemy and treat me as such and I’m fighting against that. I wanted to stop . I am just a person that’s here. That’s just as intelligent as anyone else and my work period is just what gets me here to the levels that I am. It is so stressful dealing with otherwise.

The U.S. economy relies on ongoing credit and debt generation for sustenance. The Federal Reserve is expected to increase the money supply, leading to further debt accumulation for the average American. Meanwhile, foreign nations continue to desire the U.S. dollar, despite their own economies facing significant challenges, some even worse than that of the U.S. This situation raises concerns about who will ultimately bear the consequences of these economic dynamics.

This sounds like an ideological movement, the exact thing he is ostensibly warning against. i personally feel the idea of ideological blocks is not the way to view the human species. He is setting up human society as a group of different ideological blocks. Then he is warning against ideology and yet he is seeing the world through an ideological lens. there are a lot of blind spots in his thinking, starting with his own prejudices, which he does not try to examine. He lacks self awareness as he has not demonstrated any attempt to examine his own blind spots. He defines success according to his own values. He says it is more important to be rich and have a good job than to be understood. That is his OWN version of happiness and I doubt that many people would agree with that.

Sure, but that doesn't mean you have to struggle alone, do 10 side hustles, and hope to hit the jack-pot some day. People have to organize themselves politically and fight for their rights collectively. If it weren't for the sacrifices made by the labour unions, we would still have awful work conditions, long working hours, and no paid time off. All of us have our individual identities but that doesn't mean we are not part of a collective. Working class people need to stop listening to the propaganda funded by the capitalist class and realize that the struggle is not against those below them on social and economic ladder but against the ones at the top.

But as Konstantin says and as we all see played out every day is the propaganda funded by the Communists. Every mainstream media channel is a clear depiction of this. The only one that isn't is GB News and OFCOM is trying to shut that down showing that even our governing bodies have been infected / paid off by the Communist Ideologies.

@@hyiuxyou sound like the person she's describing. You expect Union like organizations will rescue you or some other government like structure. You think Capitalists are screwing you? Well, socialists will/are screwing the serfs as well. Capitalists are just humans and socialists are humans. They will make decisions to better themselves not the Plebs.
The only sensible approach is to strive continuously for your own individual freedom AND responsibility. If you want organization then organize to fight for that freedom, drown government, drown Unions. And if you succeed disband that organization.
Have a large family, form a tight network of trusted friends that's about the only structure you need. Everyone else is secondary and of no concern to you as you are of no concern to them.

I just disproved Marx and socialism.

I agree it sounded effortless because Steven let the conversation go on. But there is also a risk in that. Everyone can sell their view on things, when they can cherry pick things which suits their view. It is more interesting how the rebuttal is when someone asks a critical question. And his rebuttal when Steve asked a question around 1:46:05 was such nonsensical. He doesn’t go into Steve’s question, but instead guides you back to an angry emotion. It’s something misinformation campaigns always try to do. People are not thinking clearly when they are angry.
Freedom of speech is important, but so is fighting misinformation. There is a grey area between reality and misinformation, and when someone tends to position himself close to or into the misinformation area for multiple topics (ie. COVID-19 was made in a lab, climate change is not a big deal, Ukraine can’t join NATO, etc) it’s a telltale sign truth seeking (which he claims to do) is not his strong suit.

@@mikecopier8843 It's fine for you to provide your argument against KK's ones, but claiming that you are right and his are misinformation would not be a good look.
It is everybody's right to say what they want. It is the audience's duty to judge what is true and false.
By the way, climate change is not as big a deal as many people make it out to be, there is a strong case COVID 19 was made in a lab, and there are/were good reasons why Ukraine should not be in NATO.

There is a significant paradox here that is being ignored. Yes, it is true that as an individual it is important to play the cards that you’ve been dealt to the absolute best of your ability, without undue attention to any stereotypes or limitations that other people or systems may seek to
    impose on you.
At the same time, it is valuable for communities and groups to advocate for greater fairness, justice, and equality for their members so that the limitations that other people and systems seek to impose on them are reduced or eliminated over time.
BOTH THINGS CAN BE TRUE AT THE SAME TIME.
The challenge is to be able to accept/hold this paradox and operate from the first perspective as an individual and from the second perspective as the member of a group or community. Failure to understand this paradox can lead to living your individual life from the second perspective and feeling like a victim who is not responsible for their outcomes, or can lead to operating as a community member from the first perspective and failing to advocate for and support societal systems that reduce unfairness, injustice, and inequality.

"Advocating for greater justice, and fairness" but not on the behalf of particular groups based on their unifying qualities but on the very essence that it is right for all. But in the end we are a competitive species so it also must be expected not everyone is going to be top dog and by that very nature we must find some contentment in what you as an individual are able to achieve.
You can look at any individual and you will never recognize the amount anyone has suffered in their lives. How do you their injustices get compensated?? They don't, they either get beyond it or not. Every individual has a responsibility to make their own best life. Its not the responsibility of others

Many of us do see it. We dont have to have a great big Empire to be Great. The fact that so many are fleeing from elsewhere desperately trying to get here means we must infact be doing something right. Being Decent isn't weakneness as Konstantin implies. It is infact our freatest strength. Our only issue is that a small Island can physically hold and support well only so many people. But the fact we are seen as a beacon others want to come to is a strength if only the bigots would shut up for a moment and realise it!

The term "woke" has an interesting history, evolving significantly in meaning and usage over time. Here's a concise overview of its journey:
    1930s-1960s: Earliest usage
+ Originated in African American Vernacular English (AAVE)
+ Meant literally "awake" but also figuratively "aware" or "conscious," especially of social issues and racism
1962: "If You're Woke You Dig It" by William Melvin Kelley
+ Published in The New York Times, one of the earliest mainstream uses
+ Used to describe awareness of racial issues
1965: "Woke from Sleeping" by Lead Belly
+ Song lyrics used "stay woke" in the context of racial awareness
    1970s-2000s: Limited usage
+ Primarily used within African American communities
+ Maintained its connection to social and racial consciousness
2008: Erykah Badu's song "Master Teacher"
+ Popularized the phrase "I stay woke"
+ Brought the term to a wider audience
    2010s: Mainstream adoption
+ Black Lives Matter movement adopted "stay woke" as a watchword
+ Began to be used more broadly for general social and political awareness
    2014-2016: Social media spread
+ Gained traction on Twitter and other platforms
+ Used as a hashtag (#staywoke) to discuss social justice issues
    2017-Present: Politicization and backlash
+ Adopted by wider progressive movements beyond racial issues
+ Began to be used ironically or pejoratively by critics
+ Became a contentious term in political discourse
+ Some view it as a positive call for awareness, others as excessive political correctness
Today, "woke" remains a polarizing term. Its meaning can vary significantly depending on who's using it and in what context. For some, it continues to represent important social consciousness. For others, it's become a pejorative term for what they see as overzealous progressivism.

I feared it was going to be left at " since 2014."...that's not the whole history. Topic worth exploring for sure but eliminating the entire history of the word creates a bad start to the convo. As a trauma therapist couldn't agree more...leaving people in victimhood is the beginning of the end.
