I recommend reacting to the alternate ending to this film, it’s way better
This movie was based on a book.
The book was way more sad and depressing than anything they put in this movie
@@natashabell4283 still a good movie though… it’s my favorite Will Smith movie
HBO is releasing a new *Last of Us* series soon starring Pedro Pascal (protagonist from The Mandalorian).
That part was so sad where the dog got bitten by a zombie and that was the only family Dr. Robert Neville had
Yes that was the sad part.
Vampire not zombie.
DarkSeekers
Lol he quite literally had a family besides the dog… you know the mom and daughter who’s deaths traumatized him
😢😢😢
The scene where he is begging the mannequin to say hello to him is some of the best acting I've ever seen. It gets me every time.
Yeah best acting I've ever seen Will Smith do in this entire movie it's one of my favorites by him officially till the end of my days
When he said, "Please say "hello" me..."
Was so sad
Bro that scene broke me, what a descent into madness after loosing his only living being to talk to, Samantha
I mean considering how Jada treats him...I say he is going through it every day...
OMG "I haven't sniffed a butt in a while" 🤣😂🤣😂🤣
Yeah, that was funny 😄
That was always the most ominous part of the quarantine flashback. The military destroying the landmark bridges in Manhattan.
They had to blow those bridges so no one could get in, and nothing could get out.
I just got up and hugged my labrador... ❤️ 🐕 🐶
OH NO NO NO NO NO!!! 😫😫
I LOVED I AM LEGEND BUT TOO SAD FOR A PART ABOUT HOW THE DOG DIES. 😭😭😭😭🐶
this, for me is A movie that has stayed with me for A long time.
I pick it up off the shelf all the time to bring myself back to when i first saw this in theaters.
It's okay apocalyptic action film, even if it pretty much entirely misses the point of the original novella, where the vampires (which the main character in it calls the mutants) have evolved and and they got a intelligent branch, and in the end those intelligent vampires kill the main character in self-defense because he has been indiscriminatingly murdering them too during the days. Therefore the last pure human goes down in the dominant vampire's new history as a legendary monster of ancient world.
We'd all be too sad living alone knowing everyone is dead..almost everyone
my cat died last summer. i had him since a baby.... 2023 was my worst year in my whole life 😞 he died more or less in my arms. he was only 9 years old. i know this feeling so good. i always saw it as granted that he will be on my side maybe until i die. and from one moment to the other he is gone forever.
This is a very rough movie as highs and lows are amazing
I lost it when she took the tissue out lmfao
A fantastic classic by the great Richard matheson. Who wrote the classic “ the incredible shrinking man” plus many great Twilight zone original series episodes and other classic stories. He wrote “ I am legend while living in New York City at age 19. The first movie was with Vincent price and a sort of remake with Carlton Heston called “ The Omega man.” Richard matheson was hoping that someone would make a faithful direct adaptation of the novel. Which still has not been made.
His house is directly across from Washington Sq park by NYU in NYC
Saw this in the theatre ... and I thought it'd have to be the zombie apoc for gas to be that expensive --.--
You should watch the Maze Runner trilogy! It has amazing CGI for a post-apocalyptic world.
This is the third movie based on the story by that name. The first was "The Last Man on Earth," starring Vincent Price. The second was "The Omega Man," starring Charlton Heston.
The creatures/mutants are not zombies, they are vampires.
That was when the first batman v superman was announced until the movie was scrapped then made by entirely different actors from the snyderverse
ya i can't watch this movie just for the scene with the dog.
This movie hits different I remember watching for the first time I was like whoa just shows how things can go from bad to to f fest if you know what I mean
If you are a reader, the story "I am Legend" was written by Richard Matheson in 1954. Its basically a short story at 160 pages. A quick exciting read.
Since you watched this film you should watch the original movie The Omega Man. It has Charleston Heston in it. It was made back in the 70's. I have to also say you are adorable and I enjoy watching you.
Always Alsatian for a buddy, intelligence, friendship, logical, loyalty... perfect companionship!
If I were the last person, I would be deeply depressed knowing that humanity has ended of course. But hey, at least I don't have to slave away for society making $ just to eat.
In the bonus content on the DVD there's a short story of a little girl that gets sick while looking for her boyfriend. She ends up going back to the safe house and finding it full of zombies who she kills but in the end it reveals that she's the zombie and killed her family
6:50 As an introvert, yes. I would want to be the last person on Earth.
Do yourself a favor and read the book this film is based on, "I Am Legend" by Richard Matheson. One of the greatest pieces of early science fiction writing. In the book it wasn't a plague of zombies, it was a plague of vampires. Richard Matheson does a brilliant job creating the science behind the fantasy of vampires. This movie does a good translation of the book, possibly the best, but you should definitely read the book.
A human wouldn't do that...... Me thinking....... Well, she has clearly never seen the people on bath salts down in Florida!
Would I be okay being alone? Without other humans, yes. But I'd need a dog as a companion. The only issue really would be injury and other medical needs. It would be nice until medical issues came to a head. :)
So the alternate ending it will actually change the rest of the movie. Basically it has you look at the zombies as the next stage in evolution and they themselfs are their own species. and it basically makes Will Smith the boogie man of the story because he was kidnaping them and experimenting on them. In that context it pretty much changes the entire movie.
This was based off of a graphic novel about vampires taking over the planet and, the ending to the comic was way worse in my opinion! Still a great film to this day, though.
He set up a lot of Wilson's
The alternate ending is much more in line with the books. When Will Smith kidnapped the "zombie girl", he basically kidnapped the "queen zombie". The "king zombie" then set up a trap exactly like the one Smith used to catch his girl (who he likely thought was already dead at that point). With the alternate ending all of that makes sense, otherwise the trap just seems kind of weird and random. The alternate ending shows the "zombies" are not just mindless monsters, they are still human on some level. When Smith gives back the "queen", the "king" lets him know that if they see him on the streets it's business as usual, but they'll stop hunting him and give him a pass this once because he made amends as best he could and they got their "queen" back.
They are still cannibalistic monsters it is eater you or them
Another great Will Smith movie I don't know if you've seen it or not but it's actually pretty funny too it's Hancock you should react to that if you haven't seen it
I watched this again only because you were doing it. Kudos for lasting through till the end. This movie is hard to watch, save the ending, which gives a respite from the gloom of the city.
Animals are better than humans
Completely random but noooo
No, they most certainly are not. I understand loving animals. Most people love animals, and they deserve TLC and cherishment. However, they are not better than humans. That statement always strikes me as extremely neurotic and heinous.
Cats LOVE to go outside, now, once they go outside they usually ignore you and just do their own thing. They can come back home to eat and sleep, but that's it. Only cats that have been their entire lives enclosed are some times afraid of going out.
Cats shouldn't be let outside.
The Batman vs superman billboard was nine years before the actual movie came out. Sorry no one gave you the memo on this being a horror movie. I know that's not your thing at the best times.
4:03 Yikes 😂
To the monsters we are the monsters.
The reason he gets so paranoid from Fred being moved is because, not only does that imply that the mutants moved him, but it also implies that they watch him enough to know that he talks to Fred.

In the original book the infected were actually vampires. There were 2 earlier versions of this movie, Last Man on Earth from 1964 and The Omega Man from 1971
Omega Man is a must recommend after this. Movie is great
If I'm not mistaken, the big reveal in the original book was that to the vampires, Robert Neville was the monster who was terrorizing them and that they would have wanted to be left alone. In a real sense, the protagonist turns out to be a villain of sorts and he only realizes it at the end. The movie stomped all over the original to the point where the whole intended meaning behind the original was lost entirely.
Yes. Book is really short and a easy read.
But yes that's the big twist that the vampires are the new humanity and he is the monster
@@CrazeeAdam with Charlton Heston right? It's been a very long time.
@@neil2444 Yeah. I think in the book, he was put on trial and sentenced to death. This is still one of the rare instances where straying away from the source material actually still ended with something great.
A dogs death in a apocalyptic world is too emotionally tragic 😢
Truly
"I love this dog so much!"
This is what we call in the business, foreshadowing.
😢😢😢
I prefer the alternate ending. It’s more closer to the book’s ending. He’s been experimenting on them for so long and when he looked up upon the wall of all he experimented on, he realize he’s the monster, not them. He’s the one killing their loved ones. He is their boogie man. He is their Legend.
Freaking movie butchered that. Always had to make the humans look good.
It's insane to me that they didn't go with that ending.
Exactly. The theatrical ending completely misses the entire point of the book and its themes, which as the ending reveals, is all about perspective. I'm not a purist, and I don't mind when a movie makes changes to the story in order to fit a different medium or a different period...but you gotta at least keep the spirit of the story and its core themes intact. Especially when it's arguably one of the most iconic and impactful twist endings in all of horror literature.
"more closer"
The book was so much better. It’s insane how different this movie was in comparison.
The amount of emotion and energy from Mary throughout this reaction is just amazing (๑•̀ㅂ•́)و✧

Will Smith's talent can't be ignored or dismissed. Mid to late 2000s with Hitch, I am Legend, Hancock, pursuit of happyness, he was on fire.
hitch? lmao .... hancock? all trash.. he was ok in pursuit ... but ya hes amazing here.
@@DannyCosmos Hancock was decent, not great but still entertaining and Smith did a good job in it.
he when he die people call him legend
@@DannyCosmosoh knock it off
The alternate ending made much more sense to me. In it, he sees that the lead infected came back for his partner after he smears a butterfly shape on the glass, just like the female infected's tattoo. He looks around his lab and sees the wall of photographs of test subjects, and realizes that they still are intelligent, and while they seem like monsters to humans, they're essentially a new evolution from humanity. In trying to turn them back into others like himself, hes been hunting, abducting and murdering their people. He realizes that hes the monster. He walks out amongst them, and they dont attack. He unshackles the female infected, and backs away. They take her and leave without harming him. Again, proof that they are intelligent and hes the monster for killing literally hundreds of them.
Its a very interesting spin on the classic zombie tale and really sets the movie apart from others in the genre when you go by the alternate ending.
Based on a book. Although the book is completely different it has the alt ending where he realizes they are the new humanity and he is the murdering monster
This could be the saddest movie ever, and all because a dog dies - breaks my heart every time
Right!
If you haven't, watch Seven Pounds, it's also with Will Smith, and it's the saddest movie i've watched
That scene forever changed te emotion of Three Little Birds to me

Yeah, I AM LEGEND is gut wrenching. I cried so much when Sam his dog died. Such a loyal companion that went out like Will did in the end...for the greater good. Great movie
RIP to the legend Sam
"The Last Man on Earth" 1964 with Vincent Price and "The Omega Man" 1971 with Charlton Heston are two other versions based off the same book. The Omega Man is my favorite, very 70's vibe.
"I am surprise a lot of people are not wearing mask if it is airborne" That is so real omg. It's like we actually been through that time.
It gets me every time when you realize that the name is Samantha 🥺
Such a cute name
I have to admit that watching you scream is very addictive. 😂
LMAO
A recent film ? Lady, That movie came out in 2007, I was 15.. I’m 31 now.. that’s not a recent film anymore 😂 (Jeez I’m old) it’s based on a book btw and the ending differs very heavily from the movie
This movie was a very tough watch at 13. My heart was beating super fast in almost 85% of the movie... and the dog... I shouldn't have watched that so young lol
Speaking of Will Smith, I highly recommend KING RICHARD. He won the Best Actor Oscar for it in the recent ceremony. Say what you will, but he was solid in that film.
The previous adaption from the book was The Omega Man starring Charleston Heston (who was the leading man in the original Planet of the Apes.)
Sam's death is probably the saddest death i've seen in a movie and no joke i cried so much when she died
You should definitely react to 1971 The Omega Man which is the second film adaptation of the novel I am Legend. In my opinion it is the best version of the story.
"He killed the girl that was getting better too". Bruh I didn't even think about that 😂.
The alternate ending did a better job explaining that while his cure did work on some level, it wasn’t enough to cure her completely. So I’m assuming it did the same in this version as well. His work isn’t entirely complete, but he laid the ground work for it to one be completed by someone else. Or himself in the alternate ending.
If it makes you feel any better the alternate ending is of him realizing that they only want her and he gets a “who’s the real monster here” kind of eye opening experience. He opens the sliding glass door, they grab the girl very gently, him and the night king exchange a look, and they leave. He then leaves with Anna and Ethan to the sanctuary.
*posts comment*
*30 seconds later “oh btw I watched the alternate ending”*
Me: fuck me
I went to the cinema to see I Am Legend, knew absolutely nothing about it. The scene where he has to kill sam made everyone in the room silent and half the room holding back tears. Will did an amazing job in this movie and his stretch of acting between 2006 and 2009 was top notch.
Oh, god why are you watching this sad movie!? What happens to the dog is very heartbreaking!😭😭😥😢
The version where he lives is better. In the book they weren't zombies. They were more vampires. They were also sentient and not just mindless monsters. They even had a society so from there viewpoint Neville was the monster who kept kidnapping them and expiermenting on them. The alternate ending is better at showing that.
Mary: "Oh this dog is so cute I love him so much!"
Me knowing what's about to happen in 5 to 10 minutes: "O..oh..well...>.>"
I read the book this movie’s based on and I don’t remember like any of it but I remember enjoying it. Maybe I should reread it soon 🤔
But either way I love this movie, it’s so good! Tho the alternate ending is so much better and actually really beautiful imo
The thing he’s pouring on his porch when he gets back home is bleach which helps wash away his scent so the infected can’t track him
The infected in this movie are like a mix of zombies/vampires but with shreds of humanity still left which is an interesting take on the whole zombie apocalypse thing
Yeah him having to kill Sam is such a tragic scene. And the depressive spiral afterwards is so raw and real
Losing that dog was one of the hardest moments in movies for sure :) And feeling heartbroken about it means you are human. Or, that you love animals in general, even if cats are the cutest lil goobers
Have to respectfully disagree about your stance on the alternate ending Mary. In my opinion it was far superior and provided a more impactful twist and it was more faithful to the book which gave the reader the unexpected perception of Neville being the monster the entire time, with the infected depicting him as a real life boogeyman amongst their kind because of him kidnapping, experimenting and killing their own for years. He was a monstrous legend in their eyes, hence the title. The theatrical ending misses the point of this completely and depicts the infected as nothing more than generic CGI movie monsters with little to no substance.
So Mary Cherry I’m glad you watched this Will Smith movie. It allows me to say something about Will I’ve wanted to say for awhile now. Will did something wrong. He’s paying the price for an unfortunate decision on his part. But… what is the price you have to pay for that slap ? No forgiveness for the rest of his life ? Here’s what I’d like to see. Will and Chris Rock have a one on one. Clear the air. Get counselling or end it with Jada. It’s not healthy. Get monogamous again. Open relationships don’t work out. Then I’d like to see Chris bring Will on stage and tell the world that he forgives Will and wants to put it behind them. Let’s give Will his life back. Chris would be a hero and Will can redeem himself. That’s it
Never been so stressed out watching a reaction🤭🤣🤣 cool
Relate this with what was going on now and poor puppy no that's the only character I care about in this movie
I recommend checking out the movie "The Omega Man" from 1971. "I am legend" is sort of a remake of that.. and Both are based on a book. Called "I am Legeend" from 1954.
The Omega man is pretty good.. has Charlton Heston in it. Special effects and makeup are a bit low budget looking.. by todays standards
Might also check out "Soylent Green" also with Charlton Heston..
This is such a great movie, that is hold back by terrible CGI. If only they used practical effects instead. Also, they should have stuck with the original ending. Because it shows that the zombies are not just attacking because they are zombies. That would have made for a classic.
I 100% agree the other ending doesn't work for me when he dies it just ruins the rest of the film
The book this is based on is way different and worth a read.
Although, the stuff with the dog is completely different and way more upsetting.
@@aerthreepwood8021 What happened to the dog in the books?
If you ever want to cry over a Droid next, there is Star Wars Andor ;)
My parents and I had recently had to put down so watching this was not a good idea 🙃
This movie relies heavily on the premise of Dr. Neville being totally aware and in control of his situation when we meet him. As we become accustomed to his daily life the movie can then begin a series of events which build suspense while he moves forward with the plot.
This movie was made in the 1960's as "The Last Man on Earth." The blood infection made vampires.
It was made in the 1970's as "The Omega Man." They were more zombie-esqe.
the hell kind of title is this? not sure of your exp with dogs but why would it be so alarming that you would cry over a dog. i have seen you cry over much lesser things. click bait?

Mary honey, you gotta film 3 reactions to Will Smith's " Men In Black" movies and listen to the songs at the end credits🌠🌈✨
And after you watch the first Men In Black, be sure you film another reaction to Will Smith in "Wild Wild West" from 1999 and listen to the song of it at the end credits🌠🌈✨🌟⚡
Great reaction as always Mary. The death of his beloved Sam is the reason I have never watched this film a second time. Too gut wrenching.
Love your reactions as always mary cherry where the content may vary. Crazy thing is there’s ment to be an I am legend 2 coming. With will smith returning. That be interesting. Sam the dog ( real name Abby ) is still alive today she’s 15 and lives on a farm.
They’re actually vampires.😤 I had always thought they were zombies too but I was just dumb and didn’t see all the clues pointing to them being vampires!😅🤦♂️
This movie is based on a novel with the same name by author Richard Matheson .. This is now the THIRD retelling of the story. The first was "The Last Man on Earth" starring Vincent Price.. The second, was "The Omega Man" with Charleton Heston.
I hate this movie SO MUCH. The original novel was absolutely groundbreaking and original. The movie butchered it and made it a hollywood ending.
The entire point of the name of the movie is because of the original ending.
The original ending was that the vampires end up capturing Neville. He is then brought deep into their society and he realizes that they are an actual intelligent society. They are the new intellegent people who will dominate the world. He realizes that they are afraid of him.
They quickly sentence him to death, but he takes poison and dies of his own will. His last words are "I am Legend".
You see, he realizes that he is the last of his race. The one lone monster who has been hunting and killing them one by one. The terrifying outsider. The legendary horror that they will tell their young ones for hundreds of years later.
It's the ultamite role reversal. The last human has become their boogey man, destined to live forever as a monster of myth to these people.
THAT is the original ending. It was mindblowing and original. Even to this day it's STILL original and such a crazy twist.
And they threw it all away because Will Smith wanted to be a hero and changed the end of the story.
I hate this movie so much.
I usually like Mary's reactions. This just seemed like whining for 34 minutes. I don't get it? She's not new to scary movies?
FYI. The little girl that played Will’s daughter in this movie is his real life daughter, Willow.
The "Aletrnate" ending is actually the ending from the book.
Neville realizes that he is the monster.
Not really.
@@deckzone3000 The book ends with a dying Neville realizing that, to the vampires, he is the boogeyman, the stuff of nightmares, as vampires themselves were once to humans. He will become a legend, not because he's a great man, but because in his extinction he will be a cautionary tale and a mythical figure to a newly formed society.
If you can find the alternate ending to this film. It’s less emotional but more thought provoking and complex. It’s worth a watch :) oh ok u watched it :) I liked it more bc it showed they were just a new type of person. I thought it was the more realistic ending. I feel his sacrifice was a ending film typical type of ending but ehh to each their own 😅
So they wouldn't attack regular humans if they came across one?
Not your best lol. Didn’t sleep well ?
I watched on the Movies with my group of friends and I hate scary movies, so I was all time waitting for the next jump scare, but when the Sam scene happens, I was crying like a baby. I will remeber this moment, because my friend sitting next to me, stops watching the movie, to ask me, if I was crying. I could not respond properly xD.
I absolutely get the complaints about the changes from the book, but the movie itself is so so good anyway. "Please say hello to me." That scene alone is a masterpiece. Fuckin' Fred too. Will Smith acting all on his own is just amazing.
