@@BaddMedicine I was gonna go to Univ of Oklahoma for storm chasing, but randomly decided to go for opera instead (young dreams, amirite?). But my dad and I used to go chasing when I was in high school in his DODGE RAM. Ha. And it was so much fun. Thankfully, in Nebraska-especially this summer-I’ve always got a chance to enjoy the storms. I don’t chase as much or as close since becoming a mom, but you best believe I’ll be out on the front porch watching the funnel cloud pass over!
Storm chasing is a blast and I have stood inside a few very small tornadoes in my youth, which makes you fully realize how AMAZING mother nature is, because I happened to grow up in an area where tornadoes don't hit the city unless they develop and actually drop directly inside the city.
Did it meet my expectations? No. It's pretty hard to nitpick the original since they did their homework, including basing DOROTHY on the very real TOTO (TOtable Tornado Observatory) from the NOAA National Severe Storms Laboratory. Sure there is dramatic license, but they didn't sacrifice educating the audience for cheap thrills. Pretty stacked cast, too. Twisters felt like Superman Returns in that they couldn't decide if it was a sequel or remake. They put a cheap spin on the main characters and tossed in some lazy fan service. They have a DOROTHY unit yet we have no idea how they got it since they have zero connection to the original film characters and events. Worse, they follow the same formula, except the science in the new film is complete fiction. I also didn't buy the characters as real storm chasers. They feel very much like a bunch of people who saw Twister and decided to try it and ended up dead. But that's me.
Yeah, I worry how many people still think they’ll be safe under there. I blame the news crew that was covering the Andover F5 in 1991… that was the footage that made so many of us think we’d be safe if we sheltered under a bridge. At least the word is finally getting out.
Hearing the guys go on about Powell's looks is hilarious... "C'mon, with this guy... White T-shirt, veins popping... I mean, it's like borderline distracting." A white t-shirt in the rain, no less 😂😂😂
The opening tornado is likely a nod to the El Reno tornado in 2013. It exploded in size to 2.6 miles to become the biggest tornado on record. It was also heavily rain wrapped, which made it difficult to track which direction it was moving. Three storm chases were unfortunately killed during the storm, the first storm chasers on record to have been lost. The opening scene leading to the deaths of three chasers and the finale occurring in El Reno can't be an accident.

Regarding your comment about the windows not breaking. It's a great point, but one of the things that I love about the movie is that early on, one of Tyler's headlights was broken, and it was broken for the rest of the movie. When Javi's mirror was broken off when they tipped over, it was gone for the rest of the movie. When Kate drove the truck and trailer into the storm and had to make the tight 90 degree turn into the field, it shows her swinging wide to make the corner. And in the scene where everybody is backing away from the fire tornado, Tyler was looking over his shoulder out the back window, but Dexter was using his mirrors (since the RV didn't have a back window). Little things like that just make me so happy. Attention to detail and care for continuity.
My mom was a chaser for a number of years in the 80’s! Her love of tornadoes began when she had a harrowing experience surviving the 1974 F5 tornado that hit Xenia, OH. She loves Twister (loved jokingly tearing it apart😁) and really enjoyed this movie too!

I actually noticed something cool and crazy when rewatching Twisters. In that scene where the angry dude at the motel (Bill Paxton’s son) tries to escape with the girl. They rode in a 1981 Jeep J10 Honcho, which was Jo’s yellow truck in the first movie. Amazing reference and nod to the first movie.

Gonna be real, the MAIN reason I saw this film was because I was just as much a weather nut as Kate as a kid 😂 And now, having gone chasing about 10 - 11 times with my youngest brother, the actual references to IRL events and how IRL chasing is like was the icing on the cake for me for this film! Safe to say, I understood all the meteorology terms and references and this movie absolutely FIRED me up to do more chasing in the future! We even got our 1st tornado last year on August 8th in the northeast portion of our home state (Colorado), a beautiful, powerful EF3 that did some INSANE stuff that the state hadn't seen in a while (It's the Yuma Colorado tornado if you're curious), I have our vlog up on my channel & can't wait to do more like it eventually (When we both can afford to chase more & actually play our cards right, as it's tough to get right sometimes XD) ^^ Ironically enough, Glen Powell's character, Tyler is HEAVILY inspired by Reed Timmer, a famous storm chaser who's just as nuts, bold, daring, and ridiculously stupid/borderline insane with how he chases, if you haven't seen any of his videos, I HIGHLY recommend doing so, you will IMMEDIATELY see the resemblance, and even better, Reed saw the movie several times and his entire chase team LOVES it! 😄 As far as the realism goes, having gone to see this in theaters WITHOUT seeing the original, I can safely say that I found the science pretty dang believable! The silver iodide they used to make it rain inside the storm was used frequently in early government cloud seeding projects, and the idea of a polymer that can absorb all that moisture to create a cold pool to strip the heat away from the storm's inflow is theoretically plausible! We'll see if anyone can ever actually achieve it, but I wouldn't be surprised if someone does (Or if I ever end up as a meteorologist/research engineer/chaser maybe I can take a stab at it hehe)! At the moment though, I'm still struggling to land a job in a techy sorta field with my double major (Music and Engineering) after graduating last May, so we'll see heh That being said, I love your guys' reaction to this, this is one of my fav classics to add to my list of movies I wanna show my future kids (whenever I finally find someone lol), but your reaction was hilarious! Keep up the good work (Also those hats look amazing on y'all!)! 🤠
So I went to Universal studios as a kid and they had a Twister experience where they had you stand next to a simulated tornado, there was fire, crazy winds, even had a cow flying around for effect. Man I am still traumatized but I love these movies and I really enjoyed this one too. Also if you guys are looking for GOOD disaster movies, Dante's Peak and total impact if you haven't seen them yet.
From an actual storm chaser: this legendary movie will make you want to chase, but the second your face to face with the real thing you will either be afraid, or you will freeze up at first sight. It will change you when you see what the real thing can do to towns. Tornadoes are not something to chase unless you're a trained spotter. Without the training you don't know where to look, how the storm behaves, or how to predict where one will form. The storm can and eventually, one of them WILL turn on you. Things aren't always going to go according to plan A or B. These storms are the real deal: respect the wind or it will make you. ~ NWS trained storm chaser since the 90s. Rest in peace Bill Paxton, Philip Seymour, & Van Halen.
That shot of Kate walking along after her friends died is one of the best shots of the year. The rest of the film doesn't quite live up to it, but it's still a fun movie.
I'm from Oklahoma and this year was particularly active a few hit just to the east and just north of us that did some major damage. I can tell you that tornado chasing isn't anywhere as glamorous as they make it out and 90 percent of the time is done in pitch black darkness were you only catch the silhouette of the tornado during lighting strikes or transformers being blown. Side note: if your from tornado alley and you hear sirens, the first thing you do is go outside and see if its close or not, might sound dumb......because it is. You can always tell people didn't grow up here if they run to an interior room or start freaking out.
Yeah, I grew up in Louisiana and lived 30 years in California, then moved to Texas. My heart still starts pounding if I think I feel the ground moving. But we had a tornado warning last May and I was debating whether to get out of bed. In the end we had straight line winds up to 95 mph and my family was freaking out, so it’s a good thing I got up (none of them grew up with tornadoes).
The theater at the end with the screen blown out is inspired by a photograph from the real-life tornado that destroyed the American Legion Theater in Mayfield, Kentucky in December 2021. The tornado tore out a wall and left a gaping hole where the screen once was. In fact, each tornado was inspired by a real life incident.
I have to come clean...I went hardcore this summer and watched it 4 times in theaters (almost five), bought the album and played it for 2 months straight in my car....yeah, safe to say I love Twisters
I'll always love the classic movie but Twisters was just as good as the original. I just wish I could've experienced it in 4DX because I know it was so much fun!
I liked this movie but not as much as the original. One of the best disaster movies for me is The Day After Tomorrow- hope you guys can react to that. PS. Love the hats guys! 😆
"COWS!" 😂😂😂 that was me while my boyfriend and I watched this, too. I was similarly compelled to point out every parallel. I really enjoy storms and weather (when not impacting people, of course) so i loved the scenes with the storms themselves.
I loved this movie, watched it many times in the cinema. Mostly scientifically accurate, good chemistry between interesting characters, lots of fun, great music, visually fantastic, I loved it. In essence its two massive nerds falling in love over their shared passion for storms with extra things mixed in, and I live for that lmao. It hits the same plot points as the og movie without feeling like a copy which was great. For the underpass thing, it used to be the advice to take shelter there, but since then they've discovered that underpasses work like wind tunnels and increase wind speed making them more dangerous. That said, in the situation they were in the top of the underpass was probably the safest place at the time.
i have to say i liked the evolution of 'dorothy' to not just a measurement tool....to me that was a great way to carry the story on. Also i agree, the devastation after being featured is great for people to see just how bad these tornado corridors are.
Fun fact. The angry hotel guest was James Paxton, Bill Paxtons son. I nice memorial sort of cameo. Bill also always wanted to make a sequel to the movie, but based on the real life tri-state tornado, and make it R rated so it could be accurately brutal. It never got far though and was cancelled due to budget concerns, and of course Bills death. There are also a ton of nodes to the first movie. "I'm not back" being a line repeated many times. Kate at the Rodeo is also wearing the same outfit as Helen Hunt. Then of course you have the literal references like Dorthy. Or the flying cows...etc. The word twister is never actually said in the movie.
here is my two cents, if anyone is interested. As someone who grew up watching the first one and loved it!! I will say this one is so much better ! The terminology and the "storm" talk is so much easier to follow for the non science people. Then the relationship between kate and Tyler is so much better ! in the original the main characters bicker and scream at each other the entire movie ( the worst part of the original) in this they take the time to understand each other and are patient with one another. Tyler is flawlessly understanding and patient with Kate's trauma. Its so endearing! This quickly became my favorite Glen Powell movie and i wish i could have seen it more then once in the theater Great reaction Fellas!
My honest opinion. This movie was even better than the first one. I definitely have a new crush😂 Glen Powell is HOT😍 And even though I didn’t know the other actors, they all brought something to this movie. I hope they do another one with these same actors.
46:23 on the glass shattering, there is actually some tornado chasers who have made a tornado intercept vehicle that the glass could withstand a certain rating of wind speed.
Twister was my all time favorite movie for YEARS! I literally used to watch my copy so much that I actually wore out the VHS and my parents refused to buy me a new copy bc they got so tired of watching it. First paycheck I ever got, I bought myself a new copy!😂
I loved this movie. I also loved it even more when I stopped wondering why the wind was strong enough to move trolleys around but left the people to walk around like normal 🤣
Watched the first one a long time ago as a kid many, many times on VHS. We absolutely loved the movie as a family and could not get enough of it. I think my mom would love it if she were alive today. Thankfully, my wife loves it, and for better for worse, she absolutely loves Glen Powell
I watched the first Twister on VHS so many times I wore out the tape 😅 I thoroughly enjoyed this sequel. It kept the campiness of 90s disaster movies while still being a solid movie by itself. The "wave" movie you are mentioning is The Perfeft Storm with George Clooney, Mark Wahlberg, Diane Lane and manyyyy more. You should watch it!
You guys make fun of how gratuitous the Glenn Powell stuff is… but as a woman watching this movie, I can tell you that there is no amount that is too much haha
If you don't know who played Javi, it's the great Anthony Ramos, he's a great Broadway singer. And his most famous film in which he stars in Transformers Rise of the Beats (recommendation) and will also be a future villain in a new Marvel series called Ironhart. And daisy edgar jones this is her first movie and she did spectacular, don't forget this name she is the next star of this generation
When that “Tornadoes rarely happen in New York” comment was made when she was working in an office toward the beginning of the movie I chuckled because the last tornado to go through New York happened in my town and I actually watched it come up my street. Craziest thing I’ve ever seen and it caused a lot of destruction. My mom cried when she saw me because the street I was on was literally path it took. Edit: it wasn’t the last tornado in NY but it was the last in the NYC-Westchester area where I live. It was in 2006, I was 9

Great reaction. Totally agree M.Q. The white tank top was a great catch. I thought the same for a throwback. There were so many that it made me love this movie. Cheers guys.
38:48 his reaction cracks me up , everytime . Because they just released the new motion poster for the new superman movie and hopefully he’ll care about the people then.😂
I had the opportunity to see this with my parents in theaters and MAN! We're all big fans of the original move so I personally was really excited but still cautiously optimistic about where they would take this one, and my parents were the same, and it did NOT disappoint! It was a fresh take that wasn't crazy redundant but still paid ohmage to the first one really well. We loved it!! I was so excited to see your guys' reactions to it!
Underpasses are the worst thing because of Bernoully's theorem. In shorts in a horizontally moving fluid(air can be considered fluid in this case) if the diameter of the fluid gets smaller due to obstructions, the pressure will drop in that area and the flow velocity increases. This can be seen in rivers, where on narrow parts the speed of the flow is much higher. The bridge blocks the airflow, so under the bridge the winds speeds increases compared to the field. You are right in the sense that the structure of the bridge looks helpful, but due to the extremely strenghtened wind speed, there is no way a human has enough strenght to hold on,even if there is a pipe or something, the wind is just too strong and will suck you out, not to mention the amount of debry flying through. The only way it would work if ther is a significant gap under the road behind the bridge structure, where you can go "inside" under the road and you are covered by concrete from the wind flow, but honestly the pressure deffirence might suck you out that way as well. In the depicted scenerio there is no good options to be honest, the least worse, is lay down, find a ditch or something , the lower you are the better, but in ef5 its not gonna save you, but that is the best shot if there is no underground shelter near you
I saw a tornado once in third grade, I was living in Florida, and we had the alarm go off while I was in school, we had to hide under our desks, the sky turned green and there was hail. It was bananas.
I find it funny that Quinn mentioned Sydney being a mechanic as the Powell equivalent when she has an entire known side account in which she fixes and works on vehicles in a shop 😆
Me & kids saw this one in theater & yeah i definitely agree w a movie like this theres nothing like that visual & sound! I know i noticed kids dodging a few times & im sure i did too. Love all the call backs they did & seems like yall caught most of them! RIP Bill Paxton! ❤💞❤️
I grew up watching the first movie all the time, especially when it was storming out. 😅 I was so hesitant to even watch this one cause I am very much, "if it's not broke, don't fix it." lol. It was pretty good! Probably not going to be one I watch all the time, but still good.

That being said, I love your guys' reaction to this, this is one of my fav classics to add to my list of movies I wanna show my future kids (whenever I finally find someone lol), but your reaction was hilarious! Keep up the good work (Also those hats look amazing on y'all!)! 🤠
Saw this when it came out and really loved it, I went in a bit sceptical but glad to say I was wrong and it was a fantastic film.
Same. I was glad I was pleasantly surprised.
That would have been a dream come true I did King Kong
Quinn "What? He used to be an astronaut too?"
Cut to Hidden Figures...
Fun fact: the story about Glens first tornado was actually true.
I have to come clean...I went hardcore this summer and watched it 4 times in theaters (almost five), bought the album and played it for 2 months straight in my car....yeah, safe to say I love Twisters
It was the most fun I had in the theater this summer.
At work now but will be on top of this ASAP. 🤩 I’m a big tornado enthusiast and this was the highlight of the year for me
This was the movie to go see in 4DX!! Amazing!!!! And of course Glen Powell 🥰🥰
Unrelated but every time I looked at Oak's part of the desk, filled with Harry Potter trinkets, it made me smile :D
Same! 👍
One of my daughter's favorite movies. She has to watch every time it pops up on streaming services
I liked this better than the OG. For one thing, it covers more of the destruction and loss of life. This kept me on the edge of my seat.
Exactly! I was blown away. No puns attended😂
ikr. had to rewind this movie because it was not bad at all.
23:52 Astronaut, huh? Someone hasn't seen Hidden Figures (Another great movie that would be a great reaction)!
I just gotta say that Oak in that hat look good af xd
I concur
The Classic will never be beat!
thought it would be the classic one with the flying cow. :(
That young couple in the hotel that was Bill Paxton son
absolutely loved everything about this movie!! daisy ddgar jones was fantastic! the soundtrack is so good as well!
Literally screamed "YEAAAHHH" when I refreshed the site to see this!
i have to say i liked the evolution of 'dorothy' to not just a measurement tool....to me that was a great way to carry the story on.
Glenn Powell's character is loosely based on storm chaser Reed Timmer.
here is my two cents, if anyone is interested. This quickly became my favorite Glen Powell movie and i wish i could have seen it more then once in the theater
Great reaction Fellas!
Saw this twice in theaters. It's still probably my favorite movie this year.
Edit, also had one of the best soundtracks in a movie in a while.
I had the first one on VHS and would watch this with my parents when I was little. What a throwback. Thank you guys for this reaction! Let's gooooooo!
My honest opinion. This movie was even better than the first one. I definitely have a new crush😂 Glen Powell is HOT😍
And even though I didn’t know the other actors, they all brought something to this movie. I hope they do another one with these same actors.
Y’all should watch Unstoppable with Denzel & Chris Pine! Amazing sound design!!
46:23 on the glass shattering, there is actually some tornado chasers who have made a tornado intercept vehicle that the glass could withstand a certain rating of wind speed.
Seen this and then cinema released the OG in 4DX last week! Defo the way to see it. First is still the best out the two imo
Hell yeah! Couldn’t ask for a better vid today! 🌪️🙌🏼
I did say to my mum during this movie, if you feel like inviting a hot cowboy to stay over randomly 😂 hallmark moment indeed
Watched the first one a long time ago as a kid many, many times on VHS. We absolutely loved the movie as a family and could not get enough of it. I think my mom would love it if she were alive today. Thankfully, my wife loves it, and for better for worse, she absolutely loves Glen Powell
This movie is by FAR my all time favorite movie
I watched the first Twister on VHS so many times I wore out the tape 😅
I thoroughly enjoyed this sequel. It kept the campiness of 90s disaster movies while still being a solid movie by itself.
The "wave" movie you are mentioning is The Perfeft Storm with George Clooney, Mark Wahlberg, Diane Lane and manyyyy more. You should watch it!
In honor of Bill Paxton, I was one of the Storm Chasers that helped shape the letter P on the map in Tornado Alley.
This wasn't daisy's first. She was in "where the crawdads sing" and a few others. But she is a fantastic actress in everything she is in
@@clairesnelson9961 yeah I first discovered her in the Irish tv show normal people and i became a fan instantly.
It was in 2006, I was 9
Idky but your intro gets my HYPED every time. I’ve been waiting for this upload!!
All three guys who haven't seen the film yet: Look at that, so cool! I've love to drive right into that!
The Oak, who has already seen how this plays out: HARD PASS
Thanks!
Thank you for the super 🙏
Loved the reaction! Though I should mention your comment about sydney sweeny is kind of ironic because she actually does work on cars in her free time 😅
I wish they brought back Helen hunt
Watched this on IMAX, the visuals and beautiful cinematography was definitely worth the extra money!
Glen 🤩♥️🫶🏽 Fun review
In the depicted scenerio there is no good options to be honest, the least worse, is lay down, find a ditch or something , the lower you are the better, but in ef5 its not gonna save you, but that is the best shot if there is no underground shelter near you
Heard horror stories about people sheltering under an overpass during the Bridgecreek-Moore F5 in 1999. They thought it was safe. It... was not.
I saw a tornado once in third grade, I was living in Florida, and we had the alarm go off while I was in school, we had to hide under our desks, the sky turned green and there was hail. It was bananas.
My dad and I chased in a Ford Edge. The funnel cloud never formed a tornado though.
Definitely a movie that’s unmatched when viewing in a theater. Great reactions as always!
Us southern who hear the sirens going off we just casual grabing a beer and foldable chair
I find it funny that Quinn mentioned Sydney being a mechanic as the Powell equivalent when she has an entire known side account in which she fixes and works on vehicles in a shop 😆
@@onnae838 no way. For real? 😂
I love the song that they had in the trailer it’s called Oklahoma 😊😊🎉❤
I saw the Orginal Twister at a drive-thru I was 7 years old and I never forgot it
I got spooky once I saw Oak and his eyebrows for the first time! 😂
Me & kids saw this one in theater & yeah i definitely agree w a movie like this theres nothing like that visual & sound! I know i noticed kids dodging a few times & im sure i did too. Love all the call backs they did & seems like yall caught most of them! RIP Bill Paxton! ❤💞❤️
You guys are hilarious. Love it.
Aww. Loved y'all's reaction. But I wish y'all had watched the end credits. There was an after-story / epilogue in the photos. 🙂
As someone who struggles with ptsd and a past trauma, this movie makes me cry every time 😭
The couple behind Glen and Daisy at the rodeo were glens parents and the guy complaining at the motel was bills son
A rare day when I get to see oaks eye brows 👏🏻 👏🏻 👏🏻
Currently watching his while sitting through hurricane helena😂
I went to the twister museum and got a shirt that says if you feel it chase it
I hope y’all will wait to see Wicked so we can see your actual reaction
I grew up watching the first movie all the time, especially when it was storming out. 😅 I was so hesitant to even watch this one cause I am very much, "if it's not broke, don't fix it." lol. It was pretty good! Probably not going to be one I watch all the time, but still good.
Dont know if anyone said it but the guy who was in the motel complaining about the pool being empty is Bill Paxton's son
