      Jared Busch your review is so disappointing particularly the battery part. You didn't even notice that dash charge charges almost 3 times faster than snapdragon when in use. Try charging a S8 or g6 while using GPS and streaming Spotify. Now do the same with OP5... You will be shocked that one went up by merely 20% in a day and the other one by 80%. Every single friend I have... We all got 5.5 to 7 hours of screen time and everybody switched from a g6 or S8. And we all agree the battery is way superior on OP5. Not sure what you do with your phone mate. I agree 100% that a wide angle would have been better. Also night pics aren't good in OP5

      Coming from LG phones to the one plus 5 I heavily prefer the scanner on the back because on bigger phones I have to move my grip lower to use the front scanner and I use two hands at that point rather than one. I can use one hand for the front scanner, but I don't feel like I have a good grip that way (as I quickly take the phone out of a pocket, check the screen, and put it back in)

    One plus is not some small Chinese company. It's a subsidiary of BBK group which also owns OPPO and Vivo. So one plus is not some small start-up with very miniscule R&D budget. It's part of a giant parent with huge manufacturing and supply chain.

    • @Rockeizta
      @Rockeizta 7 років тому +4

      They are part of the BBK electronics but OnePlus is considered a small company since they haven't achieved anything like what Oppo or Vivo had in years.

    • @wyw201

    Why do people care if the phone looks like the iPhone and the display is only 1080p? So what. Nobody knocks Apple for having the same exact display resolution on their 6(S)+/7+. Your eyes cannot tell the difference of what's QHD or 4K. It just looks brighter to me.

    • @jackliew5227
      @jackliew5227 7 років тому +18

      Luis Collazo very much agreed, IPhone users done even know that the current phones up until 7+ are still using 1080p display, and those who notice don't even give a damn, but then when Op5 doesn't have QHD display, everyone loses their mind.

    • @inlibertywetrust425
      @inlibertywetrust425 6 років тому +1

      Luis Collazo Yes and the iPhone 7 has only 326 ppi density.

  • @oskarkrogsgard3014
    @oskarkrogsgard3014 7 років тому +28

    I really cant take it when people say they are not satisfied with a 1080p 5.5" display. I mean you hold it at least 30cm away from you eyes, and, go ahead and try it, you literally can't distinguish the dammit pixels. I really see why it is great on monitors for pc's and i want it too, just can't afford it, but in a freaking 5.5" phone. Come on now. The biggest 1st world problem EVER! Edit: And waterproof. Like who the hell walks around throwing their phones into water anyways.

    • @wyw201
      @wyw201 7 років тому +2

      1080p on an AMOLED with a pentile submatrix is very different than a 1080p RGB submatrix. This is why every vendor with AMOLED prefer higher density displays

      I agree, Oskar, 100%. I've even dropped my OnePlus 3 into water twice and retrieved it without any dire results. Just because it doesn't have a "rating" doesn't mean it isn't good.
      Furthermore, people are completely ignoring a lot of TRULY important areas in which the OnePlus is killing other, more expensive phones in.

    Bought my 8gb/128gb OnePlus 5 shortly at launch, and since June 26 I'm averaging screen on time of 5h 33m screen on time and 26.3h of total battery life. I'm not sure if this is typical for the 8gb model or what, but the numbers I've seen are comparable if not better than what I saw on my OnePlus 3, and light years better than my previous Note 5, Galaxy S4, S5, or S6 ever dreamed to achieve. Much like you I love this phone and being the serial early adopter I have been for years have zero interest in moving on from this phone in the foreseeable future.
    Also, you mentioned the screen not being better. For me, it's honestly a very serviceable display that helps keep the overall cost down. Ultimately better CPU/GPU/RAM mean more to me than a higher rez display, and I'm sure I'm not alone in that feeling.
    With the results I've had now with my second OnePlus device, there's no chance I'll spend $800+ on a phone any time soon. And the $960 that the Note 8 is floating around with is just stupid expensive.

    I always hear people say they don't like the OP5 just because it looks like a iPhone. I want to clear something up here. I am an android guy through and through. I have never owned an iPhone, but have used them many times. I don't like many things about iPhones, but the one thing that I do love is the design. iPhones are absolutely beautiful. They feel so premium. I really don't mind at all that they are similar. I actually prefer 1080p over higher resolutions. For the battery saving like you mentioned, and with the silky smooth performance. Snapdragon 835 and Adreno 540 easily fly through android nougat without a sweat.

    My favourite implementation in dual camera setup,, is Huawei's.. I love pure black and white photography (it's quite artistic i think), there's also a quite impressive portrait mode with enough blair etc, and in the newest devices there's also a 2x lossless zoom feature.. The ultimate combination and all-around coverage in consumers' taste..

    Me constantly using my phone for watching hours of UA-cam/Netflix, gaming (Hearthstone, Clash Royal etc), social media/camera use, and using the flashlight/GPS/WiFi/Bluetooth I have yet to completely drain the battery before the end of the day. And with dash charging and auto brightness/auto night dimming I think I'm set with this phones battery life and it'll be hard going back to my LG V10s few hour battery life (also cause it boot looped -_-). I don't mind the 1080p screen for the massive consistently I get from this phone and with day to day use I don't notice it unless I'm paying attention and looking for it

      i was in the same position too. But my decision belongs to oneplus 5 8gb/128gb, it will come the day after tomorrow xD i'm done with samsung. I've used galaxy s7 edge and iphone 7. The camera in s7 edge is horrible. It was sharp, but the color was yellowish and the front camera looks like a cartoon. Iphone 7 was actually almost excellent. But i was struggled with the files, because of fucking iOS. By the way, s7 edge sometimes lags because of the touchwiz, and iphone 7 also lags only several times. My friend laughed at me, he said "where's the non lag expensive device?". Now i want to try the fucking good oneplus 5 128gb, i bought it for $550 in my country. More expensive than ip6s but still worth it i think.

    For real though Jared... 1080p for just a 5,5inch monitor is fine. People still use 1080p for 27" monitors for crying out loud. I do think most of the time, higher resolutions for smartphones is more of a psychological marketing than anything else. It's mostly a placebo effect, unless you're using VR, it's really difficult to physically tell the difference.

    i hate how people keep saying its okay for oneplus to copy the iphone, but if it was the other way around then people would be pissed. i think its pathetic that oneplus did that. as for the phone itself... idk... i ordered mine and i should get it in a few days. i hate the small bezels on phones like the s8 because it makes it hard to type in my opinion. to sum up, it seems like this checked all my boxes. im still using my opo, which is still kicking and still fast af for a 4yo phone on 7.1.2. im excited to get my op5! obviously, ive turned to looking up reviews now ha

      If you pick the six gig ram, you would have a 64Gb internal memory combo.
      But, if you like more storage and files to be stored, get the 8gb variant since it is only offered in 128 gb internal memory. (No sd card expansion)
      Welcome 😁

    Having the op5 in my hands never comes to my mind that it looks like an iphone, cuz i had huawei honor 6 plus with the location of the doble camera on the same place much sooner than iphone did it. So iphone copied that from chinese brand.

    Wide-angle lens or Telephoto lens? I'd say either.
    Wide-angle lenses are creative while Telephoto can be used on macro shots.
    I usually do macros and stuff when I took photos while being bored

    tbh for me i would rather have a telephoto lens than a wide angle lens, i just find them more useful and i think i would use it more than the wide angle lens

    If you compare the 1+ to iPhone directly, they look very similar, but I have never thought "wow, this is an iPhone" just glancing on it. It's more like oppo phones, and yeah I know oppo and 1+ are kinda the same thing
    edit: oh and btw, Android does need 6GB or memory. I have Lenovo P2 (which it totally awesome by the way) and it struggles with 4GB of RAM when I'm playing and then decide to browse sketchfab for example.

    I think the Battery Saving bewteen a 1080p and 1440p Panel is very low.
    The OS needs most of the screen on Power (Processor) and the Screen Controller also needs a little bit.
    I think the actual Pixels (even though 1440p is double the pixels than 1080p) dont make a really noticeable difference...
    OS Battery Optimisation and Kernel Battery optimisation makes a much more significant Difference.
    ...
    After all I am still very happy with my OnePlus 5.
    401ppi even with pentile matrix (Sorry if im writing it wrong) the display is plenty sharp.
    Most people wont even notice it when using the device. For me its just a number difference for Tech People and not actually a real downside in daily use!
    ...
    I dont want to know how many People still use the 1080p setting on their Galaxy S8 because the dont even know what it means or dont care at all.

    Such a good video bro ! Finally a video where I don't hear non stop negatives avout this phone or bitches saying that it is a wannabe iphone and other retarted queations like this . Jared do you recommend going for the 1+5? I curently have an S8+ but it's in service for the second time in 2 months and I want to get rid of it .It's an overpriced piece of junk and I was thinking about 1+5 or lg G6 .
    What do you think ?

    • @JQ_Unity
      @JQ_Unity 7 років тому

      Livius lg g6 with lineageos custom ROM. OnePlus got over hyped ever since the 3t. They not innovating like they did before and they keep slowly upping the price. Lg g6 is pretty awesome. I still rock the original OnePlus one.

    Hi Jared, can you please address the jelly screen issue with the one plus 5. How much worse is it?
    And also the fact that the OP5 doesn't record videos longer than 10 min when using 4k mode and the how not having an OIS affects the videos.
