    oh boy. that's a lot of work but great way to troubleshoot the problem.
    Thank you for sharing with us.

      Hahaha tell me about it man. It’s a tough way but hopefully it eventually gets to the bottom of things🤷🏻‍♂️😂

      Thanks Eduardo. I will chase this problem down one step at a time. Like you said, when it gets frustrating you have take a cruise and enjoy the view!

      Indeed it is. There’s some drawbacks to driving carbureted VW’s on dirt roads, but worth it overall.😎

    I am a 09 guy. L O L but I do have a friend that is a techie and he loves the pertronix stuff he has a Manx buggy that him and his wife drive all over Florida . He tells me you have to put a ballast resistor on that set up . Also wondering if you have a ground strap on your motor and transmission set up. Be watching the experiment thanks for the video

      @bomberobus  Рік тому

      Manxin around Florida must be fun! I cleaned the ground strap of the gearbox really well on the Bug but am now wondering about the engine. Basically the Bus engine has its own dedicated beefy ground cable from when I did “the big three.” The Bug doesn’t have one though, so def something else for me to consider. Thanks man

    man u got me wondering bout my cb performance distributor now. got the weird idle just like the video. pulling my hair out thinking its the carbs. gonna try put the 009 back to see.

      Yeah man I went through (and am still going through) the same process. Thinking it was dirty idle jets but it wasn’t. Holla if you make any discoveries 😎

      @@bomberobus Every time it drops below 50 Rambus won't start . It acts like a dead battery . I am going to put new brushes in the starter and test the fields . I just don't get it I just bought that starter in 1992 ????

    Q; did you ever consider using the CB Performance Magna Spark II as apposed to the Protronix ?

    • @bomberobus
      @bomberobus  Рік тому

      Hey Mike, I sure did. I even know guys in my area that are running the magna spark with zero issues, but I had to be hard-headed and wanted to try Pertronix. I still can’t say for sure if it’s pertronix or me that is the problem. It’s turning into quite the adventure, but I am learning a lot.

    Question, are you using the matching pertronix coil? Its super important...and not well marked in their literature. Ever since, mine has run SO good

    • @bomberobus
      @bomberobus  Рік тому +1

      Yeah you’re right about the lack of info regarding proper coil for sure! I was aware it needed a special coil but didn’t know which one, so I contacted them before I bought it. They said Ignitor 3 needed the 0.32 ohm coil, which I bought and checked with an ohm-meter myself. You’re so right though that when it’s running right it’s incredible. I checked voltage to the coil, coil ohm, super cleaned my ground strap and battery terminals. I even ran a dedicated 12v source wire to the coil temporarily. Then somehow the clamp fixed it…for about a month. I’m gonna try EVERYTHING I can on my end first before I blame them….to be continued hahaha. Thanks for the input much appreciated 🤙🏼

      @@bomberobus Strange that the clamp fixed it...I wonder if somehow that affected the pickup inside, like the shaft being in a slightly different position. I'm using the drop in unit in a rebuilt factory distributor on my factory fuel injected '75 bug. I plan on using it when the 1904 stroker goes in next spring. It's funny though with some talk of failures I do carry a spare points distributor

    • @bomberobus
      @bomberobus  Рік тому

      @@muzzcovw7674 that’s a good theory on the clamp fix although it was temporary. Smart move keeping the points dizzy on board.

    feel free to send the distributor to me so i can test it! as for my ride, i'm thinking about making my own crank trigger and hooking it to something like cb's black box.

    • @bomberobus
      @bomberobus  Рік тому

      Wow, I’d love to see that crank trigger get set up! I don’t think it could get any more accurate than that. I’m still keeping it simple because of my daily driver / make sure you can get home philosophy, but ignition technologies are starting to fascinate me.

    • @redshirt-scotty
      @redshirt-scotty Рік тому +1

      @@bomberobus if you've ever looked at crank trigger systems, you'll notice that they involve the use of FI toothed gear looking trigger wheels. overkill. i have a spare ignitor. may as well play with that a bit.

    • @bomberobus
      @bomberobus  Рік тому

      @@redshirt-scotty I checked it out after your last reply, especially the MST vs CB crank triggers. Again, probably not conducive to my daily driver philosophy. But I love expanding my horizons with new knowledge!

    • @redshirt-scotty
      @redshirt-scotty Рік тому +1

      @@bomberobus i've looked at both too. the cb stuff is heading in the direction of FI but the msd stuff (you did mean msd?) is geared towards people running carbs like us. what i don't like about the msd programmable ignition is it's lack of a vacuum input. the cb black box has a vacuum input. the msd though does multi spark which is something i'd like to try.

    • @bomberobus
      @bomberobus  Рік тому +1

      @@redshirt-scotty yes I meant MSD 😂. I saw a vid on the MSD and the review was terrible due to trigger behind the pulley having alignment issues with the magnet at high rpm. Basically, crank end play was misaligning the two, but he said he DID NOT have excessive end play. Maybe it was an older MSD version. Anyway he switched to CB.

      Thanks Tony B. Time will tell, but you’re right. When that dizzy is working I LOVE it, then BAM, it’s back to the drawing board😂. I do hope to get to the bottom of it and be one of those lucky “been running mine for 10 years with no problem” guys hahaha.
