Because of 540Rat, I use this oil in all of my water-cooled engines, including my Yamaha FJR 1300 motorcycle!
Great..so do I, 5W-30 5000 mile oil changes....
Amsoil is a marketing strategy and that’s all. You’re paying for something you don’t need. I’ve run Super Tech oil for the last 5 years on my vehicle and it’s fine. The key is to change your oil. All modern oils are fantastic.
I use to. But now with the price so close you may as well by name brand. You only save a dollar or two at most. Went to Rural King and bought their oil known as Providence Automotive. Conventional is 12.99 five quarts. And full synthetic is 17.99 five quarts.
@@scrambler69-xk3kv Supertech is still half the price of name brand in Canada. I use the 0w20 in my 2023 Impreza with a Mobil 1 filter.
This guy has knowledge. Everything he says reconciles with what I’ve read in my extensive reading.
Thanks ! 540rat blog is Great. The QS is the best and the Motorcraft filters.
All I use is Quaker State Full Synthetic in my wife's car and in my truck, and have had no complaints since I switched from Valvoline. I'll keep using it.
Why did you switch from valvoline? I run amsoil SS in both vehicles but I’m going to switch. I’ve narrowed it down to either Pennzoil Ultra Platinum or Valvoline Restore and Protect. Just wondering your thoughts on valvoline since it appears you’ve used it somewhat consistently.
@@golfshirtshooter633 1 word: price.
@golfshirtshooter633 I used to swear by Valvoline, until Walmart raised the price higher than I was willing to pay. I switched a few years ago to Quaker State Full Synthetic solely because of the price. I haven't regretted it one bit. It's cheaper than Valvoline, and it works just as well.
I also read Rat 540's stuff. I just bought a new Westinghouse 14,500 peak watt generator and just got finished breaking it in with Valvoline conventional 10w-30. I have the same jug (or two) purchased at a local WalMart and I'm gonna pick it up in a few hours. As far as my vehicles, I've been a Mobil 1 guy for that past 20 years but based on Rat's blog, I'm gonna give the QS oil a try as well.
Dude QSFS 5W30 is so good! I’ve slowly converted my oil stock to Quaker State Full Synthetic (not Ultimate Protection) 5W30, Valvoline gear oils, Redline MT-LV, 85, 90 and Mobil1 Synthetic ATF Multi Vehicle 👍🏽
I love wix filters. These days though I have to check the filters to make sure I get one made in the USA. Also a fan of Baldwin. I've been a castrol fan since 2002, and pretty much use all their products. I've always wanted to try amsoil, but nobody has it in stocks. Plus it's expensive. I also change my oil so often that it probably doesn't matter. I'm still stuck in the past apparently with my 3500 mile oil changes. However I with GDI, and Turbo, it's probably a good thing I'm doing my changes early. Especially with the 10th gen civic fuel dilution issues.
I like the filters you mentioned. The Baldwin for my Ford Ranger does not have the silicone drain back valve, so I don't use it. Also I keep some Amsoil at home and throw in a quart with the Castrol or Valvoline.
@@tarquineous interesting, the baldwin for my civic has one. I also like the brand FULL. Or a Purolator boss.
@@vermontvermont9292 I like those too. Currently I'm running a Pure One by Purolator. I favor the screen backed elements for long drain intervals. I can't seem to push the oil past 8,000 miles. I tend to like the fresh oil.
In 1988 I used Amsoil in my Datsun B210 and it was so viscus that the engine kept stalling and it lacked power. I drained it after 100 miles and replaced it with Mobile 1. I won't use Amsoil in anything.
How do you know the micron size of the particles caught by the magnet? And if the stuff goes through the filter, like you say, how much has already gone through the filter without being caught by the magnet ?
I think a bypass filter from Amsoil, Frantz, or Kleenoil will work much better, and keep the oil cleaner.
Check your facts. Signiture series Amsoil IS full synthetic.Meeting and exceeding everything you just listed.
That’s what he said, one comes from the ground and Amsoil comes from a lab!
What link for magnets??where?😊
Results video?
Amsoil is also only part Synthetic. Red Line is a true synthetic if your definition of Synthetic is a group 4 or 5 oil. Amsoil is not fully group 4 or 5 according to Ford Boss Me UA-cam channel. This guy knows what he is talking about and has helped Marvel Mystery oil with the makeup of a 10% composition added to the oil instead of the 20%. Amsoil is a great oil but very pricey and you can get more bang per buck with something like Pennzoil Ultra. The Wix XP filter is a great filter in my opinion also.
When you posting the results?…I use Quaker state and am curious on the outcome.
Thanks
Looking for the same thing,.
How exactly does 540Rat test the oil?
Yep we don’t know his proprietary testing methods. However he’s been on the money with over 50 tech articles and over 300 oils tested. Check out his new section on ATF and gear oils! At the very least, you’re still using oil that’s not the most expensive yet highly known national brands
What we do know is he tests them for wear protection at over 200deg F right up to 290 in some cases to test onset of thermal breakdown.
Thank you for the information. I really appreciate it.
@@MrRGiller current #1 for wear protection is Quaker State Full Synthetic 5W30 (not ultimate protection, must be 5W30). $22 at Walmart or Amazon for 5qts. #1 ATF is Mobil1 Synthetic ATF Multi Vehicle (silver bottle/black label). I’ve used the ATF on old and newer Toyotas, Lexus, Mercedes which required the weird blue thin stuff, ZF Acura and this spring ZF RWD Maserati and maybe BMW if that owner lets me haha. Don’t let the manuals scare you. They’re simply lying. This stuff works. The thin stuff (Maxlife, Mercon LV, Castrol Transmax) all score “0 psi” on RAT’s tests
@@vqdriver Thank you for the good information on the synthetic oil and the transmission fluid as well.
Amsoil's top tier is just Exxon Mobil with and additive package. Do the research and you will find that Amsoil is just a blender.
You could not be more wrong
OK I did my research. Amsoil is just a blender as most are. Please don't tell me Amsoil drills and does oil exploration because they do not. Tell me what you have found and cite it.@@GDavis49
@@GDavis49once 540 rat was mentioned I realized this wasn't worth watching. He was kind of a laughing stock on Bob is the oil guy.
There is no such thing as "synthetic oil". All oils come out of the ground. Even natural gas comes from the ground. Amsoil buys their oil from a bulk dealer and then refines it and adds their own additive package. I'm not saying Amsoil is a bad oil, I'm sure it's fine. But it is NOT "synthetic". It comes from the ground just like any other oil. All you're paying for is a more highly refined oil with a better additive package.
Look up pao
@@19Clutch69 look up the word "synthetic"
Ester motor oil is made from fat & alcohol. Polyol ester & hindered ester
Expensive
Really ? Is this true ?
I thought Amsoil was the real deal .
I mean to say , 100% synthetic.
That is to say, not a drop from fossil based products.
Is this certain ?
@@Nellis202 I've watched videos of their own refinery with the president of the company giving the tour. They don't even make their own oil. They buy it from a bulk oil retailer like Walmart or Amazon or Costco does with their oil. I'm not saying it's bad oil, just that it's not "100% synthetic" as they claim.
To go from AMSOIL Signature Series to that lower grade oil. Oh that poor engine. :(
like it’ll really make a difference.
Exactly.
Definitely not doing that engine any favors to downgrade so much.
I use what I use. It's none of someone's business what I use. QS eats Valvoline's lunch in every single test! But the meth addicts in my area love to pick a fight over everything. If they're not getting high they're getting drunk and forgetting who they abused the next day. I probably wouldn't go with Rat540 or 540Rat's tests. He's a mechanical engineer BUT he doesn't use a single standardized test for oil that's approved by the Society of Engineers. His tests are interesting. I've read his blog over the years and noticed some things that don't quite add up but I don't want to get into any of that. But if you look at standard physical test results of the major players it's very difficult to beat just plain old Advanced Durability all the way up to their Full Synthetic. I mean yeah you can spend more but if the extra cost is what helps people feel better about a purchase why do they buy a Buick Regal when a Mercedes Benz or a Maybach is more expensive? Amsoil's own test a few years back the old QS Ultimate Durability now called Full Synthetic done pretty good but even then Amsoil didn't use the standard test methods. When we create our own tests with little objectivity we can come up with all kinds of results. When we compare one vehicle in 1981 to another with a different driver, different maintenance schedule, and different mechanical condition, without an issue it's purely subjective to blame any one thing like the oil. I'll never buy Amsoil SS simply because of the price and the fact I don't drive enough miles in a year for it to make good sense if you just change so many miles or once a year. The main vehicle i drive gets oil changed twice a year and the trash truck gets the filter changed and it's still on the M1HM put in 2 years ago. Probably has 30 miles on in 2 years. I just make sure I get the oil hot before I shut the engine off.
