Yes, Sundown is tooled in China (parts and accessories). Then assembled in America, Jacob did that to save an insane amount of cost for his series lineups. Imagine the price, made strictly in America ($1000 base price or more) very smart on his behalf. Would love to see a DB review later, after sub gets a bit more slinky. The problem is companies keep funding China while our economy is waning. More and more money is printed to help our economy but it isn't going into our economy. China has over the years backed manufacturing into a corner to the point where damn near everything is made in China and they keep getting richer and stronger because of it.

Parker , i love that v.3 flat wound wire ,vrs, v.2 round roll coil still bad ass. The v.3 flat wound is just like the controlto subs massive beefy an strong. just picked up a Xv3 and man i’m so amazed, i had AB 4 Elite 12s and love the Sundown more. this sub can really take a beating. putting 5k on the Xv3 and thinking on getting a best friend for the xv3 if ykwim😏
Per the D4S web page description for the 12" X v3, "this sub is 85% sundown Z v5" and Hucking Fits hard AF! Ive got it installed in sundown spec box per their cutlist. except im firing the sub UP and ported to the rear, on a D4S- JP23 v1.5 amp Ive got the dual 2ohm vc wired down to 1ohm . hardest hitting 12 in sub Ive ever owned. Ive been a bass head since high school (grad '98)... mindboggling extreme powerful bass.

D4S JP23 specs at 2800w RMS at 1ohm… it’s on money…as sundown underrates it’s subs approx 500w this is per a sundown rep on phone 2years ago. Williston Audio labs on UA-cam did an amp dyno on the JP23 and confirmed this output at 1ohm. Additionally D4S will warranty for a fee .5 ohm loads on the same amp. This amp is a beast. And performs. Sub hits hard, I keep voltage stable at 14+ volts with a big 3 upgrade and 2- Platinum AGM Batteries, H9 Group Size, 950 CCA, 1000 CA, 100 Amp Hour Capacity within 2’ of the amp and a 125a output alternator.
I'm trying to figure getting the 1 or 2 ohm with that jp23. Having amp running at 1 or 2 ohm is the question. I'm noob, leaning towards running at 2 ohm to ease electric, will I still have awesome bass compared to your 1 ohm running jp23 amp? Thanks!

@Kyle nice i used mdf 3/4 and subbox pro went to home depot with dimensions and had them cut it..got 30% off each board as i needed 2...my first box for single sub 3.0 cubic ft 1board...but its better then 300 for a custom box...got a zigsaw from amazon amd gonna return it ...so all together mdf terminals screws and pl glue im less.then 85 bucks.im on.a taramps smart 3

I know you had bad luck with the entry level Harmony subs , but i think you will like their Monolith series they are impressive for the price and look awesome with the carbon fiber cone
I'm debating this exact issue should I get the xv3 over the xv2? I plan on running them off a down4sound jp63. Is that to much power for 2 15's? Any advice is much appreciated!
@@xchimnyx correct they were designed to be able to play in smaller enclosures butttt if you truly want to get the max performance from your woofer then even as it says on sundowns site "can be up to 50% larger than spec enclosure" and that extra box will get you lower, deeper and harder hitting bass!!!
@@jacbybentril7114 yes I too have a comp box for subsonic suicide with two X12's built and upgraded by Dave Lieb with zv5 and nightshade parts and the box is 4cu with a 3 and a half ft long 8in aero port and let me tell ya it is VIOLENT but the reason I went smaller in this case is so I can throw a ton of power at them and there is almost no impedance rise at all lol I'm wired series/parallel dual 2's to a 2ohm final and full tilt it only rises to 2.3ohm meaning I'm able to efficiently utilize each and every available watt now if I only had like a 5k amp I'd certainly have built around 5 or 6cu and tuned just as low but I'm happy doing a 151.6 at 28hz with just a pair of 12's on 9k cased lol and if you know anything about tuning and box building you know that is incredible for such a low frequency now if I wanted to tune to 33hz I'm sure I'd he able to smash near mid 50's burping... but I like my lows and don't really care about much else 🤣🔊🔊🔊 hence the reason I compete in subsonic suicide
Parker. I have this sub. X12 v3 from D4S. 2 day shipping. omg, awesome sub. My boxing was different. There was no Styrofoam it was all super thick layering of cardboard. Sundown leased a building in Las Vegas near D4S and has contracted labor to assemble/ Build these subs (the x and z series) specifically for D4S. My box says assembled in USA , its a sticker they put over the made in China. My sub also has a USA sticker on it. I should add, I share this info for purpose of clarification... I do not care where it was made assembled. I understand economics.
I just put 2 of them in a gately 5.5 cube box on a taramps 5k bass. Still have to hook up the xs power batteries and run a couple wires. Cant wait to hear it.
Yeah the zvx might look similar to the x series but I can assure you from 1st hand experience owning both that the sundown is far far superior and worth paying more for....

@@RIDofU84 yeah the U series are basically designed more towards an SQL not SPL woofer much like the SA series they geared more towards sound quality than all the extra excursion in X series moves alot more air and take more power so all they did on the U series was combined the two so now you've got a sound quality woofer that is able to handle more power... I had 4 Sa15's on two skar sk3500.1's strapped and it did a 153.7db daily on music in a reg ported enclosure/no-wall setup and I had incredible bandwidth too I was able to slam 25hz and flex my entire vehicle, do hair tricks and also if I played 70-80hz it was equally as painfully loud now there were two sweet spots one at 38hz and one at 55hz both those freqs were where I peaked and I could lift the hat right off your head lol
@@kevinAuman1 awesome. I think I’ll get two u12’s now. The sa sound good, good bass but when some songs go low they sound like they just can’t make it. I would get the x series but I was told they are basically only good for altered music like chop n screw. So if I want more power and a hit a little deeper I should go the U series. I know a guy sells them for 400, 450 for the x. And z series for 750. My Sa’s were on a 2700 watt amp and they blew twice.
The thing about subs being expensive is that it seems expensive until you find ways to save your money and budget your finances. Plus certain sites make it easier by offering payment plans. So they seem expensive but certainly not all that impossible to acquire 😎
This is only true in car audio not with Pro Audio or Home Audio like to move from a 600watt sub to 1000watts costs $600-$3000 and that sucks home audio is even worse 😑 but yeah man working my ass of to get a DD815 and later a Sundown X15

Bought 2 xv3 12s about 3 months ago from a local dealer in Houston my boxes said made in China and it was a doubled box well packaged with Styrofoam around the subwoofers in plastic?
The "Made in America" is usually "Assembled in the USA". They put the subs together by hand at Sundown HQ, but some, if not all of the parts come from China. That's just how it is with every car audio company, even Sundown will tell you that. People act like we out here mining and gathering the materials to make every single part of the sub in the USA. If that was the case, the sub would be multiple thousands of dollars. Also great review of the sub.
@@xchimnyx indeed lol they've literally cooked eggs with them and boiled water lol the coils are able to withstand 500*F which is Ludacris if you know anything about building woofers... Most will crap out at around 250-300*F but not sundown with an American made PE coil....
I used to daily a zv5 15" on a sfb8000d @1ohm.. never metered actual rms but battery stayed at 15v soft clipping so I'm pretty sure I got all the power out of the sfb8k. Might need to get one of these xv3's very soon.
I bought a cheapo dual temp meter w 2 probes w long wires and stuck in the side vent close to the coil but not touching The meter was like eight bucks and I know if my subs temps are rising towards 100° I'm cooking them & they'll be stinking soon. I would hardly call it necessary but I like data The more data the better always

Agreed, I just bought a tropo 15 for $99 shipped and it sounds incredible I was blown away literally by how great the sou d quality is for such a cheap entry level woofer! Granted I own sundown Xv2 15's and deaf bonce apocalypse DB3515'S Addictive Audio V4 15's but when I got offered a discount from CT to buy a 15in 650wrms woofer for under a hundred bucks I couldn't say no! Now CT has a bad rep for customer service but the 1st sub arrived with a rusty chrome motor that actually shifted during shipment and they had zero issues replacing it and had new one sent out the very same day!!! Already have it in and playing and it sounds great, I may even try to recone or fix the bad one then have two budget 15's
Just try it out if one of your friends has a bigger ported box . One and a half the size of your box and be amazed I bought a smaller box the exact size they recommend and I can only assume that is the minimal specs because my original box sounded waayyy better especially on the lower bass notes which were non existent with the smaller box . By the way my bigger box is a older style JL audio h.o. box that has the red oval and grey carpet and I'm pretty sure it can still be better in another ported box with similar cubes but tuned even lower because I read somewhere the box I have is tuned to 40 hz . But like you said this is what you're testing in and anyone can test in whatever box they want on their videos . But you're missing out . Either way cool sub collection .

This whole discussion is why I like how DD organizes their subs. They clearly tell you what's made in America. Also, all of the options they have are wonderful.

Yo parker what's the max power the sundown X12 V2 2ohm can handle cause I've seen videos where one guy was push and 8k amp on just one sundown X12 V2 i no the rms is 1500 watts but it doesn't show the max power it can. Handle
I didn’t see a tape measure pulled showing the specs for that box but I don’t think it’s 2.5 cu ft unless it’s outside dimensions is where your getting it bc inside there’s no waythat’sacurite subtracting for port only maybe have left 1.5 cu ft. I would love the dem. Bc I’m running v2’s myself and maybe I’m going to much air space. If you would comment back I would greatly appreciate it
Hey Parker, do you know if the 11.09 cutout for the X is tight. I don't have the subs yet, but my cutout is 1/8 inch too big. Do you think my cutout will work?
The best way to do it is with a home audio amp. Sit it on the ground and push a little bit of power through it, no more than like 10% of rated. And just play a solid sine wave at the Fs of the sub. If you only have a car amp, then just be careful with the power for a couple weeks.
Hey Parker your video makes me want to buy one of these now I have the money for it no problem but I just want to know what kind of amp do you recommend I should get for this and when I mean it recommended I mean by what is the wattage you recommend?
I have 4 x15s (v2) two are Built in USA and two are made in China. They are like 100 percent identical except for the glue on the coils, American ones are glossy and China coils more of a flat black.
I wonder how many more ounces the motor is compared to the V-2. It almost looks like it just has a bigger top plate. But it having the ZV5 coil is sweet

@@davidlieby3616 i was planning on feeding 7k rms through a pair of them in a 5.2 5.3 cuft enclosure using 2x vibe black death bass 1s version 1 with 4x agm cells but looks like instead of strapping amps for the 7k rms ill be running them individually instead 1 ohm load @ 2250 rms but obviously wont be getting that after bnox rise etc so should run good and wont be feeding a clipped signal at all thanks for the info anyway as over here in Australia theres fuck all info for them except the fact they are 2k rms aha
Different sub needs a different enclosure! Put it in a different enclosure and that score will go up. I can tell by your excitement that you love it! I prefer the u's but ive always loved the x
What is the max wattage if this sub? I can’t find it anywhere it just says 2000watts. I have the 2ohm version of this, in every video where I see a meter clamped onto it, this sub takes way more than 2000 watts which is INSANE. Im not pushing anymore than 80 amps into my amplifier since I’m waiting for my alternator to be built. This sub is nuts compared to my old 12” dvc 2 ohm comp Qs wired down to half ohm that’s in my Mazda. Insane and worth every penny. I need a bigger box though, there goes my cargo area roflmao.
i actually like the v2 for my setup i have a 190 amp alternator that cant be upgraded (v10 tdi touareg) so skipping the extra 500w might save my $800 alternator in the long run!

I remember watching a video (from the Sundown Audio unofficial channel, I believe) that stated the X series and up were made here in Florida, so it's likely that is why peeps were thinkin' that sorta thing. Sundown makes awesome subs, (I've owned a couple SA12's) but maybe priced a bit high. I scored mine the one and only time I seen 'em go on sale. $160, if memory serves

that amp seems VERY under powered for this sub, unless this dynos much higher than 2k? Generally, D4S is pretty accurate with their actual output.

@@Nathan-wf1pr run it at 1ohm of course.. the newer version of jp23 is much more powerful. You'll need electrical upgrades. But the sub will love it

My box says assembled in USA , its a sticker they put over the made in China. My sub also has a USA sticker on it. I should add, I share this info for purpose of clarification... I do not care where it was made assembled. I understand economics.

I ordered a x12 v3 last week and didn’t get the shirt or the volt meter .. was kinda bummed but the sub is amazing . Sundown makes quality stuff .

I just put 2 of them in a gately 5.5 cube box on a taramps 5k bass. Still have to hook up the xs power batteries and run a couple wires. Cant wait to hear it.
you are waaaaay underpowered. Either upgrade your amp or just run (1) sub on that 5k & you will be dialed in much better!
@LTSRIDE24 got it wired to .5 ohm and it pushed them fine. I got 4 now in a 6th order B pillar wall on a jp 83 at .5 and it gets down.

@@RIDofU84 yeah the U series are basically designed more towards an SQL not SPL woofer much like the SA series they geared more towards sound quality than all the extra excursion in X series moves alot more air and take more power so all they did on the U series was combined the two so now you've got a sound quality woofer that is able to handle more power... I had 4 Sa15's on two skar sk3500.1's strapped and it did a 153.7db daily on music in a reg ported enclosure/no-wall setup and I had incredible bandwidth too I was able to slam 25hz and flex my entire vehicle, do hair tricks and also if I played 70-80hz it was equally as painfully loud now there were two sweet spots one at 38hz and one at 55hz both those freqs were where I peaked and I could lift the hat right off your head lol
@@kevinAuman1 awesome. I think I’ll get two u12’s now. The sa sound good, good bass but when some songs go low they sound like they just can’t make it. I would get the x series but I was told they are basically only good for altered music like chop n screw. So if I want more power and a hit a little deeper I should go the U series. I know a guy sells them for 400, 450 for the x. And z series for 750. My Sa’s were on a 2700 watt amp and they blew twice.

The thing about subs being expensive is that it seems expensive until you find ways to save your money and budget your finances. Plus certain sites make it easier by offering payment plans. So they seem expensive but certainly not all that impossible to acquire 😎

Bought 2 xv3 12s about 3 months ago from a local dealer in Houston my boxes said made in China and it was a doubled box well packaged with Styrofoam around the subwoofers in plastic?

The "Made in America" is usually "Assembled in the USA". They put the subs together by hand at Sundown HQ, but some, if not all of the parts come from China. That's just how it is with every car audio company, even Sundown will tell you that. People act like we out here mining and gathering the materials to make every single part of the sub in the USA. If that was the case, the sub would be multiple thousands of dollars. Also great review of the sub.

For the rms test I think it would be a cool addition to get a temperature gun to see how much the coil heats up
I mean zv5 coils have been known to take ungodly amounts of power. Granted, it's still limited as it's a 3" coil. But for what they are, they're nuts.
@@xchimnyx indeed lol they've literally cooked eggs with them and boiled water lol the coils are able to withstand 500*F which is Ludacris if you know anything about building woofers... Most will crap out at around 250-300*F but not sundown with an American made PE coil....
I used to daily a zv5 15" on a sfb8000d @1ohm.. never metered actual rms but battery stayed at 15v soft clipping so I'm pretty sure I got all the power out of the sfb8k. Might need to get one of these xv3's very soon.
I bought a cheapo dual temp meter w 2 probes w long wires and stuck in the side vent close to the coil but not touching The meter was like eight bucks and I know if my subs temps are rising towards 100° I'm cooking them & they'll be stinking soon. I would hardly call it necessary but I like data The more data the better always

Agreed, I just bought a tropo 15 for $99 shipped and it sounds incredible I was blown away literally by how great the sou d quality is for such a cheap entry level woofer! Granted I own sundown Xv2 15's and deaf bonce apocalypse DB3515'S Addictive Audio V4 15's but when I got offered a discount from CT to buy a 15in 650wrms woofer for under a hundred bucks I couldn't say no! Now CT has a bad rep for customer service but the 1st sub arrived with a rusty chrome motor that actually shifted during shipment and they had zero issues replacing it and had new one sent out the very same day!!! Already have it in and playing and it sounds great, I may even try to recone or fix the bad one then have two budget 15's

Just try it out if one of your friends has a bigger ported box . One and a half the size of your box and be amazed I bought a smaller box the exact size they recommend and I can only assume that is the minimal specs because my original box sounded waayyy better especially on the lower bass notes which were non existent with the smaller box . By the way my bigger box is a older style JL audio h.o. box that has the red oval and grey carpet and I'm pretty sure it can still be better in another ported box with similar cubes but tuned even lower because I read somewhere the box I have is tuned to 40 hz . But like you said this is what you're testing in and anyone can test in whatever box they want on their videos . But you're missing out . Either way cool sub collection .

It's a catalog sub. Those and Platinums are decent for what they are, but there isn't real R&D behind them.. Teams are inefficient trash.
This whole discussion is why I like how DD organizes their subs. They clearly tell you what's made in America. Also, all of the options they have are wonderful.

I have 4 xv3 18s on a crescendo 17k and they are amazing even in a smaller box than recommended until I get my 4th order wall done

I didn’t see a tape measure pulled showing the specs for that box but I don’t think it’s 2.5 cu ft unless it’s outside dimensions is where your getting it bc inside there’s no waythat’sacurite subtracting for port only maybe have left 1.5 cu ft. The best way to do it is with a home audio amp. Sit it on the ground and push a little bit of power through it, no more than like 10% of rated. And just play a solid sine wave at the Fs of the sub.
If you only have a car amp, then just be careful with the power for a couple weeks.

I have 4 x15s (v2) two are Built in USA and two are made in China. They are like 100 percent identical except for the glue on the coils, American ones are glossy and China coils more of a flat black.

@@kruger2511 Yes, mine are doing fine,, beating the hell out of my truck 😁😁😁 the v3s are rated 2K RMS so that's 4,000 watts if you're pushing more than 5 000 w or so to them you're going to burn them up,, also you got to make sure they're not getting a clipped signal! That will burn them up too 😳
@@davidlieby3616 i was planning on feeding 7k rms through a pair of them in a 5.2 5.3 cuft enclosure using 2x vibe black death bass 1s version 1 with 4x agm cells but looks like instead of strapping amps for the 7k rms ill be running them individually instead 1 ohm load @ 2250 rms but obviously wont be getting that after bnox rise etc so should run good and wont be feeding a clipped signal at all thanks for the info anyway as over here in Australia theres fuck all info for them except the fact they are 2k rms aha

What is the max wattage if this sub? I can’t find it anywhere it just says 2000watts. I have the 2ohm version of this, in every video where I see a meter clamped onto it, this sub takes way more than 2000 watts which is INSANE. Im not pushing anymore than 80 amps into my amplifier since I’m waiting for my alternator to be built. This sub is nuts compared to my old 12” dvc 2 ohm comp Qs wired down to half ohm that’s in my Mazda. Insane and worth every penny. I need a bigger box though, there goes my cargo area roflmao.

I remember watching a video (from the Sundown Audio unofficial channel, I believe) that stated the X series and up were made here in Florida, so it's likely that is why peeps were thinkin' that sorta thing.
Sundown makes awesome subs, (I've owned a couple SA12's) but maybe priced a bit high. I scored mine the one and only time I seen 'em go on sale. $160, if memory serves

I'm looking at upgrading from a Kicker Comp q 12 to the X v3. My box is 2.7 cuft @30hz so after displacement it will be perfect.
