Just buy the stand. Without the stand it will overheat. If you noticed that with the stand it raises a bit from the ground which prevent it from overheating
The stand makes no difference at no all for heating, slim or fat PS5. The stand covers the holes on the bottom just like sitting vertical without a stand does, air intake is at the top and exhaust is at the lower rear. The holes, even when completely unblocked have no air flow or fan near them whatsoever. The stand is solely for stability and so you can lay it horizontally without it leaning.
@@joemamr710are you stupid? The stand makes a big difference. If you put the ps5 slim vertical without the stand your are covering up the entire bottom. If you use the stand it lifts the console off the surface creating more air flow underneath.
If your PS5 is making crackling noises on startup, when off and when in use, please turn your PS5 horizontal. This issue started plaguing me and suddenly stopped upon being laid flat.
I got a PS5 console from Amazon, but the product box was damaged and looked like it had been used. After just one day of playing, the console started heating up so badly, it felt like it might melt. Note that it's only been two days since I bought it, and I made sure there’s good ventilation at the end i had to return it
As much as I like to place my PS5 in a vertical position, I'll stick to horizontal position since vertical gets more dust than horizontal and I'm too lazy to clean, I bought a dust catcher just in case 😅
I own a slim and I own the verticle stand. In both I CANNOT find any form of wording in the PS5 Slim manual or that of the vertical stand in my native language Dutch, or in English or German that hints to any overheating issues or liability thereof.
@@GearsAndTech Well, I've yet to experience any issues but if it's flowing one way I'll just flip it for a while. If it remains liquid it's workable. If it dries up like thermal paste, only then do I see real issues. Although... my PS3 (fat) still works fine as well. The only thing that gave the ghost was the blu-ray laser, which I replaced myself and then broke the wire of the CD injection sensor. That was DIY error on my part. 🤦♂ Anyway, if the thing gets old and gives issues I will just get in there as an IT tech. But if it gives issues for normal people, that's bed. On the other hand... have there been liquid metal issues with coolers on a regular PC? Which also stands vertical in any case unless you have a desktop case where the motherboard is mounted perpendicular to the table.
The best fix for this is to simply remove the liquad metal and use a good quality thermal past the liquad metal is a new cool touch but its not nessisary at best 5c drop due to the liquad metal the system is already direct die cooled so thurmal past is going to better for the long term
I’ve been using vertical for my PS4 and Now PS5 since launch for both console and I have never had any issues with it vertical it’s designed to be vertical technically Edit: plus when buying the console it’s all ready in its vertical stand so either ways it’s safe SIMPLE
I don't think so. Even Sony sells the system in the box showing PS5 vertically. Every ads showing this same. APU have special seal to prevent leaks. They were forcast it can happen. New vertical stand is salling separatly to create more income for corporation, not to protect costomers. My PS5 1200 A, with I have more then year don't have problems with overheating.
There definitely are examples where the Liquid Metal leaked past the seal and dripped downward. It could just be defective seals on a few of them, but it definitely has happened.
@@marcino881 It just doesn't work that way. Just because it was shown vertical in commercials doesn't means Sony is legally liable to guarantee it will always perform perfectly in that position. Of course it's not a rule, and it's just a few examples. Obviously the vast majority of consoles will work fine vertically for a long time. My console worked perfectly vertical for 14 months. It wasn't until the most recent month that the Liquid Metal pooled enough at the bottom to actually start causing issues. This was on a system that was maintained very well, this was not a dirty PS5 issue, I have always been literally OCD about my consoles for decades. This system was never worked on by anyone and was never opened and the warranty sticker was still intact. When I took it apart I could see the hot spot on the APU, I could see the Liquid Metal pooled downward. I reapplied it and it instantly fixed everything. I still keep my console vertical.
I came home from work today and my system was off all day and I came home ..went to start my gear ps5slim and it said it was over heating !!! And it wasn't even on..mind you ...I bought this game system dec 24th 4 days ago
Watching this video because I had my console vertical for a year, it would randomly shut off under 20min. Laid it flat and I haven’t had any issues since.
I had a PS5 for well over 4 years on a stand with no issues and it still is on the stand. I have not heard of any PS5s or slims just sittng on a stand leaking liquid metal, unless they have been abused in some way. I just got a PS5 pro the other day and it's on a stand but it will not be abused in anyway.
Vertical standing is a nightmare for the PS5 digital slim edition. over the last three days I just went through three separate brand new machines and the second I switched it to horizontal, The ps5 started working and stopped receiving the overheating notification and forcibly shutting down.
I had the fat PS5 and had zero problems bought the slim and now it overheats when it's in vertical going to try to move it to horizontal and see if it fixes the problem
@@GearsAndTech True, I just wanted to point that out because it could be an upgrade to a launch unit with the smaller process, but obviously not compared to the CFI-1215
Regarding placing the ps5 horizontally or vertically, which is better? It's an interesting issue. But many channels say that the line should be set because the liquid metal will flow down along the lines of gravity!!! The question is, when he sells or transports, he doesn't place the boxes horizontally. The buyer didn't have a problem. And liquid metal has been used in the computer industry for over ten years without any problems with verticality!!! Also, when disassembling the parts, how will you know that the disassembler can lift the parts straight without affecting the liquid metal that moved during assembly? I'm all just wondering. I'm not serious about placing or laying down my old machine. It's more than two years old and I've always placed it vertically without any problems. But with the new device, I put it vertically, sometimes horizontally because I'm getting tired of seeing it vertically for so many years. In the end, I think the most important thing, more important than vertical or horizontal placement, is the ventilation distance around the machine and the room should be dust-free or free of people, animals, and insects. And equipment maintenance should have a cycle of replacing the remaining metal every 2-3 years due to the natural drying of the material, just like general computer maintenance. But I like the way you present your clips. I will continue to follow
Both PS4 and PS5 are quieter and cooler horizontal. Fans ramp up more and more frequently vertical. Tested 12 ps4 and 2 ps5 units myself in quiet room.
I work for sony console is ok up engineers designed to be not a problem either way console still runs warm both ways so all is okay hope this helps....but still recommend cooling fan these are great especially with chargers as seen on temu
Anton is 100 procent right lay it down it will run les warm then when you stand it vertical, the downside will become hot i lay it down nog for just n hour with Cyberpunk and its not hot anymore
No it’s not, and check the manual: www.playstation.com/content/dam/global_pdc/en/corporate/support/manuals/ps5-docs/2000ab/EN_FR_ES_AMER_CFI-2015_Quick_Start_Guide_Web.pdf Not once does it ever show the PS5 standing up or mention that it can even be stood up. Every single illustration shows it sitting horizontally and in the first setup guide it tells you straight up to lay it horizontally.
i just unpacked mine and they specifically tell you to put it horizontally with the 2 small feet in the package. (going from the original description booklet)
I put it vertically without a stand and I use a steering wheel wich plugs in the back and whenever I’m done it’s really hot even the power and hdmi cable are actually really hot I might want to put it horizontally
guys i have a new PS5 Slim and i put my console vertical my space is very very good for cooling but one day when i played Mortal Combat 11 i recive a overhit message please trun off your Console... please tell me what to do...
My PS5 (fat) has been standing vertically for over two years. Almost daily use, even with PSVR2. Never had any problems. There will be "lemons" in every production. 😉
@@GearsAndTech also i forgot to mention something, wouldn't that damaged the disk drive a bit? If so are there other horizontal stands that are secure?
This guy doesn't know about computers. The extra fans help for cooling if the fan ramps up its because it's trying to get rid of the heat from the processor because it's working harder.
The issue is the heat sinks are not going to get hot if the Liquid Metal leaks because there will be no transfer of heat from the CPU to the heat sink because there will be no contact. This happened on my PS5 and the fans suddenly started screaming and it gave me an overheat warning. It was blowing a ton of air out of the back, but it wasn’t even warm because without the thermal compound it can’t get into the heat sink.
Bought a brand new PS5 slim no disc. Transferred all my info from PS4 downloading GT7 PS5 was set up Vertically and within five minutes of playing it overheated shut down. That happened three times. Then I laid it flat no issues sense but ideally, I want it vertical. Brand new out of the box playing GT seven also connected to fanatec wheelbase Any help or should I return it?
ur a good youtuber so i have a ps4 slim and i want to get a ps5 do u think i should get ps5 slim or normal and can i make the slim standing vertically without stand and does it overheat?
It doesn’t really make a difference , a Liquid Metal problems people reported are the losers who broke they HDMI port and had it repaired by a quick nut shop which didn’t tighten the HEATSINK & did a bad HDMI job repair . Theses are the ones reported issues over heating and ps5 shutting off the Xbox x series has the same issue repaired and reported for a broken HDMI port with more damage for a half 🥜 job lol 😂. Had my fat ps5 vertical since launch still has no issues . Most the liquid dripping on the mother board is u got your HDmI repaired and the shop didn’t tighten or u had it hot when u bring it in trying to see if u can bypass the hdmi issue or not , how it gets all over the metal hot liquid is when the heatsink is removed by not Sony themselves . If you gunna have your ps5 fat and silm vertically always get warranty through Sony not take it to a respair shop
What if we upgrade stock fan or get a base with a fan and has plenty of space around it? Or is the liquid metal still at high risk for eventually leaking in the long run?
There was no one single incident of Liquid Metal leaking. All of the “incidents” were coming from reports of users who had their ps5s opened by repair shops and not properly sealed back
That’s simply not true. Nothing is perfect, including seals. I guarantee you there are defective seals floating around that will leak after a certain number of hot/cold expansion/shrinking cycles.
So I think it’s a safe option to keep it horizontal to prevent overheating so I think I’ll take that option when I get the PS five and I do know that they include those two little plastic stands for the horizontal
It's been 3 weeks since I've gotten my PS5 Slim, that thing gets hot quick. I had to order an external fan, screen mesh dust filters for the fan plates, cover vent plates and a vent plate for the SSD and dust filter seems to be a much better improvement.
I had the OG PS5 and thought it was having problems because of it being vertical. I kept getting black screen on my tv but everytime I turned tv off and back on again gane was still running. Wasn't a problem with the PS5 it was the HDMI Cable that I was using that was knackered. I only cleaned the PS5 once in 2 years but made sure I kept the surface area around it spotless. Agree done people are just dirty and don't clean their shit
Lol. I love these clickbait videos. Engineers know what they are doing. 99.9% of all electronics issues are because of manufacturing at the lowest bidder. Nothing to do with the design. I keep mine in vertical, no issues whatsoever. If I had, it was because it was a faulty unit, not a faulty design.
There are many that have had issues verticle. Even reading through the comments here it seems some people are already seeing failure of their brand new slims
Because no engineer has ever made a mistake, or overestimated the capability of their products in the real world. And no engineer was ever overruled by a supervisor or marketing department. No product has ever failed to deliver on promises.
I’ve used the fat vertical since the console came out, and I’ve been having overheating problems. Even when it’s horizontal it still overheats, and I’m thinking about getting a new console soon. Should I get the slim or wait for the pro?
Guys, heat rises. There are vents on top. Standing the ps5 up is the best way to vent heat. Laying it down forces the heat to hit the top before being moved out the sides.
Do not put any PS5 vertical liquid metal is liquid gravity forces liquid and everything on the planet to go down it will cause dry spots on your processors Even if you've never opened the console
I'm very curious if Sony will use more liquid metal in a PS5 Pro? Or will they keep it the same but implement a larger fan and heatsink? I personally want them to do the 2nd option but depends on which is the most expensive. When you consider they have to make thousands of these consoles.
Fits perfectly fine on my desk horizontally. I’ve had zero issues with it getting hot or warm either. I’ve considered placing it vertically but I’m scared my kids may bump my desk and knock it over even if it’s on the stand.
When i stand it up, it gets HOT when playing PS5 games. 😂 help! no problem when i lay it down . Dang Edit. My bad. I mean the fan gets loud. Like a blow dryer. wth
Probably because your standing it up without the stand. Buy the stand and use it and you will get not overheating. Having it vertical on the stand will keep it cooler and is better than having it horizontal

That would help
Just got my ps5 last night, haven't took it out of the box yet. Glad i found this video...
Hope it helps you
What ,so your unit just stays in the box. The thing was designed to stand up or laying down
Don't worry, put it however you want. these are just xbox's unofficial d-sucker/Influencers.
I’ve never had a problem with having the PlayStation standing up
I got a PS5 console from Amazon, but the product box was damaged and looked like it had been used. After just one day of playing, the console started heating up so badly, it felt like it might melt. Note that it's only been two days since I bought it, and I made sure there’s good ventilation at the end i had to return it
Probbaly what happened the first time
As much as I like to place my PS5 in a vertical position, I'll stick to horizontal position since vertical gets more dust than horizontal and I'm too lazy to clean, I bought a dust catcher just in case 😅
Are you stupid?
I own a slim and I own the verticle stand. In both I CANNOT find any form of wording in the PS5 Slim manual or that of the vertical stand in my native language Dutch, or in English or German that hints to any overheating issues or liability thereof.
That's good to hear. It's almost like they want to pretend it's not a problem
Anyway, if the thing gets old and gives issues I will just get in there as an IT tech.
I’ve been using vertical for my PS4 and Now PS5 since launch for both console and I have never had any issues with it vertical it’s designed to be vertical technically
Edit: plus when buying the console it’s all ready in its vertical stand so either ways it’s safe SIMPLE
Glad to hear it's working for you
I don't think so.
It's not to protect customers, it's to protect Sony
@@GearsAndTech Yeap. But they don't change ads and prints on the boxes.
There definitely are examples where the Liquid Metal leaked past the seal and dripped downward.
It could just be defective seals on a few of them, but it definitely has happened.
@@joemamr710 That's true. A few examples, not a rule. They promised that their device could stand upright and they must keep their word.
Was it standing verticle?
SAME!!! my shit overheating first week wtf
Watching this video because I had my console vertical for a year, it would randomly shut off under 20min. Laid it flat and I haven’t had any issues since.
Glad to hear
I've just canceled the vertical stand I had ordered. Thank you
I had a PS5 for well over 4 years on a stand with no issues and it still is on the stand.
I have not heard of any PS5s or slims just sittng on a stand leaking liquid metal, unless they have been abused in some way.
I just got a PS5 pro the other day and it's on a stand but it will not be abused in anyway.
No prob
I flipped my ps5 last night and the moment it turned on I kept getting a over heating pop up
Same. New console. Turn back to horizontal and return the base to vendor.
I have not heard of any PS5s or Slims just sittng on a stand leaking liquid metal, unless they have been abused in some way.
Yes. Leaking isn't the problem. Dry spots due to not enough liquid are
Vertical standing is a nightmare for the PS5 digital slim edition. over the last three days I just went through three separate brand new machines and the second I switched it to horizontal, The ps5 started working and stopped receiving the overheating notification and forcibly shutting down.
Thanks for sharing
I had the fat PS5 and had zero problems bought the slim and now it overheats when it's in vertical going to try to move it to horizontal and see if it fixes the problem
It should help
Did it fix?
@yocashh2 yeah it did ... still louder thoe
Yes correct, if you play powerful games for all day long, without controlling room temperature below 20 degrees, then put it horizontal position.❤
Exactly
The original PS5 APU was 7nm, not 6nm, so there is a reduction in “model 2” fat PS5s and the Slim PS5.
Yes. But nothing since revision 2 came out
Even the slim is the same
@@GearsAndTech True, I just wanted to point that out because it could be an upgrade to a launch unit with the smaller process, but obviously not compared to the CFI-1215
There are ps5s that were opened to investigate issues and found dry spots that burned
Both PS4 and PS5 are quieter and cooler horizontal. Fans ramp up more and more frequently vertical. Tested 12 ps4 and 2 ps5 units myself in quiet room.
Same
My ps5 slim gets hotter by standing than laying . Laying seems to work better for me. Seems with standing it gets abunch of dust faster on the fan.
Exactly
But do you use the vertical stand or just stand it up without?
I keep mine horizontal. Just sucks cuz i really want to stand it vertical lol
I bought fans and a cooling stand, makes it look cooler plus I have no issues standing it vertically.
My Ps5 slim just overheated and i only have it vertical good thing I got the warranty on it
Yes. Send it out asap
I just bought the vertical stand in guess I have to return it
I work for sony console is ok up engineers designed to be not a problem either way console still runs warm both ways so all is okay hope this helps....but still recommend cooling fan these are great especially with chargers as seen on temu
Thanks
It's funny how you can have your ps3 slim and ps4 in any position and don't have to worry about it over heating. 😁
My ps3 is starting to complain now
@@GearsAndTech you have a phat ps3 or slim?
Its actually not funny because the ps5 is more powerful
@@MasterPiece-rg7ed Yeah that's true but even desktop computers that are powerful don't use liquid metal.
My PS3 is in need of a new disc drive, there are times where I have to press the eject button a few times and it slowly comes out, it's scary. 😂
Even if it’s safe, standing game consoles vertically just feels so wrong to me lmao.
Me too
When is the best time to change liquid paste for my ps5?
hopefully never. But likely youll start seeing guys adding more liquid metal to their launch units
Sony simply aims to generate additional revenue by selling the vertical stand separately; that's why they do not include it in the box🤑🤑🤑
This could also be a cash grab
@@GearsAndTech hi do you actually need the stand for airflow on the standard ps5 or is it ok without it?
I have Playstation 5 slim and i do not have problems with that console, it is the best and more fastes then the original console!
Yes
Nobody does at first. It takes at least a year or two for the Liquid Metal to leak, if yours is going to leak.
@@joemamr710 Well i do not even have the stand because it is was really expensive!

Anton is 100 procent right lay it down it will run les warm then when you stand it vertical, the downside will become hot i lay it down nog for just n hour with Cyberpunk and its not hot anymore
Great feedback
Bruh PS5 can be on vertical stand without any issues, it's also advertised that way right from sony themselfs.
No anymore
No it’s not, and check the manual: www.playstation.com/content/dam/global_pdc/en/corporate/support/manuals/ps5-docs/2000ab/EN_FR_ES_AMER_CFI-2015_Quick_Start_Guide_Web.pdf
Not once does it ever show the PS5 standing up or mention that it can even be stood up. Every single illustration shows it sitting horizontally and in the first setup guide it tells you straight up to lay it horizontally.
Here today because I made the big mistake 😅 I’ll now be trying your method to fix the issue
Fingers crossed
Idk, they advertised the ps5 slim vertically so ima just keel it that way, just gonna trust the designers/engineers
Hope it works out for you
i just unpacked mine and they specifically tell you to put it horizontally with the 2 small feet in the package. (going from the original description booklet)
@@Jesus.Christ106 Because it doesn't come with a vetical stand. Y would they tell you to stand it up so breeze can blow it down
@@TechBill876 why would they even change to a horizontal stand from ps5 base model to ps5 slim version when there is nothing wrong with it?
I put it vertically without a stand and I use a steering wheel wich plugs in the back and whenever I’m done it’s really hot even the power and hdmi cable are actually really hot I might want to put it horizontally
It's a good idea
It has a vent on the bottom where the screw holes is
guys i have a new PS5 Slim and i put my console vertical
my space is very very good for cooling
but one day when i played Mortal Combat 11 i recive a overhit message please trun off your Console...
please tell me what to do...
Put it flat
It gets super hot from the back when playing fps games

What about the discharge to the PS5 slim?
I can put it horizontal but having trouble finding a stand

My fat system is not shutting off
I had my PS5 FAT standing vertically for 4 years without any issues. Now I have a PS5 SLIM and I don't plan on changing its position.
Let us know how it goes
My PS5 (fat) has been standing vertically for over two years. Almost daily use, even with PSVR2. Never had any problems. There will be "lemons" in every production. 😉
True
vertical, horizontal it still runs too damn hot
Takes a lot of power to deliver them next Gen graphics son
So horizontal position is better for the slim?
Yes.
@@GearsAndTech also i forgot to mention something, wouldn't that damaged the disk drive a bit? If so are there other horizontal stands that are secure?
Sony wouldn’t build it to be vertical if it wasn’t safe
Same for the ps4 as well
And ps3 and ps2?
Oh wait, they all overheat when used verticle.....
Wow I got my slim last month and mine didn’t come with a stand they provide
Probbaly didn't notice them. They were in there somewhere
This guy doesn't know about computers. The extra fans help for cooling if the fan ramps up its because it's trying to get rid of the heat from the processor because it's working harder.
I think you missed the point.
Ps5 rarely has the fan spin at full speed.
Brand new out of the box playing GT seven also connected to fanatec wheelbase
Any help or should I return it?
Return if you can. If you have problem now you always will

Good choice
@@GearsAndTech What are your views on the vented faceplates would it also help in cooling 🤔
This makes me scared of buying a ps5 , is it safe to have it horizontal and I wouldn’t have to worry about the liquid dripping….
Horizontal is best
@@GearsAndTech would there still be risks of the metal leaking with it like that ?
@@LuhNoSho Thank you I’ll be getting a Slim soon and laying it flat down as that will work better for me !
am going to put it horizontally as of now
Good idea
Yeah, that’s a good option. I’ll do that when I get my PS five.
Does this stand work with ps5 pro
No
What if we upgrade stock fan or get a base with a fan and has plenty of space around it? Or is the liquid metal still at high risk for eventually leaking in the long run?
It's a liquid metal thing
There was no one single incident of Liquid Metal leaking. All of the “incidents” were coming from reports of users who had their ps5s opened by repair shops and not properly sealed back
That’s simply not true.
Nothing is perfect, including seals. I guarantee you there are defective seals floating around that will leak after a certain number of hot/cold expansion/shrinking cycles.
i am the one need to be vertical, sad SONY didn't do anything for the slim.
Nope. Same problems in a couple years with these
I've been using my PS5 slim horizontal since day one.
Sweet
So I think it’s a safe option to keep it horizontal to prevent overheating so I think I’ll take that option when I get the PS five and I do know that they include those two little plastic stands for the horizontal
@@chris1995-l8w sure do
So it more safe to put it horizontal
Yes
Mine overheats vertically
Lots of people Get that
It's been 3 weeks since I've gotten my PS5 Slim, that thing gets hot quick. I had to order an external fan, screen mesh dust filters for the fan plates, cover vent plates and a vent plate for the SSD and dust filter seems to be a much better improvement.
It's all within design specs. These things make a lot of heat
I’ve always used my ps5 in vertical with zero issues. People just need to stop being lazy and clean their console.
Cleaning helps
I've gone through 2 ps5 consoles within a year. It's obviously not clickbait, stop talking like a moron.
Because no engineer has ever made a mistake, or overestimated the capability of their products in the real world.
And no engineer was ever overruled by a supervisor or marketing department.
No product has ever failed to deliver on promises.
Ok, this is crazy , i have both units, and I've never had any problems.
Glad to hear
Standing or laying down?
The vast majority of PS5s won’t have defective seals.
Sony should've included the original PS5's stand in the Slim version. Far more stable than those cheap plastic stands which can easily break off
The cheap plastic stands won't break off
@@GearsAndTech Οk maybe not but imo the OG's stand was still better

Guys, heat rises. There are vents on top. Standing the ps5 up is the best way to vent heat. Laying it down forces the heat to hit the top before being moved out the sides.
Think about what you said, then think about how the heat pipes are setup in the system
Laying flat makes sense
Thank you so much now I know how to use ps5 slim wenn it’s out

I'm very curious if Sony will use more liquid metal in a PS5 Pro? Or will they keep it the same but implement a larger fan and heatsink? I personally want them to do the 2nd option but depends on which is the most expensive. When you consider they have to make thousands of these consoles.
Will be interesting to see

Who would even want to stand it horizontally takes up too much space. Also it looks ugly horizontally I’m just saying.
Agreed. Horizontal is the only way it fits in my tv space
Fits perfectly fine on my desk horizontally. I’ve had zero issues with it getting hot or warm either. I’ve considered placing it vertically but I’m scared my kids may bump my desk and knock it over even if it’s on the stand.
That's just your opinion no one cares
When i stand it up, it gets HOT when playing PS5 games. 😂 help! no problem when i lay it down . Dang
Edit. My bad. I mean the fan gets loud. Like a blow dryer. wth
Yep
Probably because your standing it up without the stand.
Buy the stand and use it and you will get not overheating.
Having it vertical on the stand will keep it cooler and is better than having it horizontal
