It's pretty much been confirmed in multiple videos already that it's extremely uncommon for liquid metal to drip overtime on the components of the motherboard despite the positioning of the system. The protective sponge seen around the liquid metal on the motherboard does its job quite well keeping the liquid metal from spilling over the other inside components of the motherboard. Unless a person has unnecessarily toyed with the inner parts of their PS5 systems, their liquid metal should remain intact until maybe a dry spot appears requiring a clean-up of old liquid metal for a new layer of liquid metal.
except that sponges seal can be broken in shipping to much heat build up can cause gas expansion in the sealed sponge area thus blowing out the seal and then their is the liquid metal poling at the bottom of the sponge compartment and not covering the APU and heat sink like its suppose to causing a hot spot on the chip leading to shut downs and possibly permanent damage to the APU

@@Just-Sem he is right and wrong at the same time having it vertical can allow some of the exhaust from the back to recirculate into the top so it is not getting cool air but warm air thus causing the system to run slightly warmer but this only really happens if the back is to close to a wall and can also happen in the horizontal position but not as much because of the side plate also in the vertical position dust will settle in-between the system and the side plates then wen you turn it on that dust will be sucked in and gunk up the fan and heat sink leading to reduced airflow as ware in the horizontal position the side plate will keep most of the dust from getting to the fan and heat sinks so yes in the vertical position over time it will get less airflow
The only time metal turns liquid is if you expose it under really high temperature like when you do soldering. Very hot air won't melt the metal unless you expose it in a hot desert or something. Had the PS5 standing up for 3 years now and nothing happened (cleaned the fan twice).
I just bought PS5, yesterday ... and I don't plan to use it vertically at all. 1st - the stand doesn't come with the console. 2nd - no room for vertical near the tv ... my tv shelf has room only for horizontall stuff like my blu-ray and PS4.
Having the PS5 vertical, it is rare for the Liquid Metal to get on the board. The black thing around it stops it but also soaks up it up. Watch a video by Gears and Tech he talks about it and debunks it. I have mine vertical on my desk so I don’t really worry about it. I Originally had mine on the floor under my desk but it quickly got dirty a little bit and not good for a white console and probably dust will get in there more. I have a slim so I can sightly move my monitor and place it there. The only thing that bugs me is the disk drive is loud and when putting in a game it vibrates my desk a bit. And no I’m not buying an overpriced stand.
You actually have a point the Liquid Metal can spread it won’t leak in the whole ps5 coz that black roughly surface stops it but if it gets spread from the center of the chip it will affect your ps5 you will face heating issue and warning like the console is too hot even I have watched some videos of repairing of ps5 and not all but yeah few people have a lot of issue with the hdmi port of ps5 and this Liquid Metal spread even the guys repairing the console suggest to keep the ps5 in horizontal position if it did not happen to you so it does not mean it does not happen to anyone
Mine has been sitting in the vertical position for years. Its only way for me place my console. No space to put it horizontal, and No overheating issue either. And I clean mine once a month by taking off the side panels. And once a week with air duster from the outside.
Never heard of the yellow light problem had three blinking red lights of death on the Xbox 360 never had problem with ps1 or 2 or 3 same as the ps4 what are you doing to your systems bro?
Same, I never used any previous PS console vertically. I have now the new PS5 Slim laying flat. Although i must admit that the stand of the OG model is more steady compared to those tiny plastic feet. But since I'm not moving the console around it's just fine
The slim disc comes with a disk drive. The base slim model is all digital. I personally would recommend getting the disc drive though it cost extra to add. The 1tb of memory will be used fast if u download multiple games.
I have my PS5 standing up like my Xbox series x it stands up. Nothing wrong with it in my opinion had it a few months now this year and absolutely nothing wrong with the PS5
I have experience trouble on all my consoles (ps2, ps3 and ps4) when I try to stand them. They dont work properly. Soo I have always use them lying down.
It was “designed” to go either way But any fella with the slightest electronics knowledge and logic can look at the way the disc goes in and is used…and know that THAT’S the way to set your PS5.
Upright bad if have unit with disc drive even with current Xbox series x which will shred blu-rays and disc copies after few weeks to month or melt it if gaming for more than 6 hours like what happened me. Why switch digital copy of games so don’t matter which way ps5 or Xbox system like series x is positioned.
ya people like to believe Sony consoles do not have problems but if you look at the launch PS1 it had problems leading to people playing them up side down launch PS2 would stop reading blue bottom disk because of gunk buildup on the disk lock plate the PS3 launch models had heat issues causing them to over heat and kill them self's AKA YLOD the PS4 is the first console i know of that dose not have a major problem in their launch models the typical rule with Sony consoles is do not get one till rev 3 is out
If it gets plugged on the vents from dust and hair it will oxidize. Pushing the thermal metal to the edge. Keeping it on its side will help less dust to enter the console
Terrible video, lots of misinformation (PS3 slim and super slim models do not really have the same issues the OGs do), half truths (the liquid metal ..can.. destroy your PS5 the same way gas can destroy and blow up your car... if or when the engineering for some reason fails) and straight up wrong things (The PS5 looks like early 2010~ish Alienware PC trash no matter where or how you try to hide it). Why are you even complaining about the liquid metal at all? Its there exactly to counteract what youre whining about half this video, overheating because of failing cooling systems due to dry cooling paste or failing cooling pads. Even the PS2 has had massive noise and cooling issues since day one depending on which version you had and with time even the quiet models will have their cooling pads give out on them at some point and become loud as planes while roasting their cpus. Your understanding of any of these topics seems severely limited, you shouldnt blindly trust 5 randos on Twitter in 2021 who had issues with their PS5 liquid cooling to be any kind of indication on how bad standing up your PS5 is for its lifespan. Theres literally nothing out there that would indicate that this in an actual problem besides the occasional clout chaser every 3-6 months on social media, i work in retail and ive literally never seen a PS5 having that problem or even hear of one being send in for that in other markets. Most people destroy their consoles by feeding them dust and pet fur for breakfast while living in humid areas cramming them in the tightest spot they can find to use them as furniture depositing stuff on top of them. Or they just drop them/spill liquids on them.
Well this was a waste to of time. I’ve owned every PlayStation since the beginning. And every single thing you have been yapping about never happened to any of my systems. So the only thing useless is you.

PS3 launch models had a design flaw that would cause the cell broadband processed to de solder from the MoBo causing the YLOD and the YLOD has killed about 90% of the launch model PS3s and is a problem in all fat model PS3s did Sony recall those unite and replace them no thy said their is no problem and that it was user error then thy released to slim model that dose not have this flaw
