I remember many MANY years ago, cleaning up an original NES that had this same problem. The cartridge connector was also completely rusted (something I haven't seen before or since), and required a complete replacement, but otherwise it worked great after a full cleaning.
I dropped my connector in vinegar 12% for 2/3 days or a week I don't remember correctly. The rust was gone, but there are just markings left where the rust was 😂 It's working perfectly ! Same for my N64 ! My family used to put alcohol-based parfum in there. Bad idea if you ask me
That was so satisfying. I used to clean controllers and keyboards in my off time at my old job, and this made me miss how zen that whole process made me feel.
After 15 months of owning a PS5 I finally cleaned it yesterday. Not a deep clean though, just the fan. A bit surprised that it's not as dirty as I thought it should, considering my play room is on the second floot (hotter), not air-conditioned, the console is near always-open windows, and I smoke a lot. The fan and ventilation grills are relatively easy to clean, not too many dust have accumulated. But the metal parts are yellowed and somehow a little corroded in a few places. No bugs though. Absolute bummer.
This is why i was just telling my cousin about setting up roach traps like these. Just let it run idle with a slight dust of diatomaceous earth around the device and eventually they'll all die off
Unless you live in space, or maybe the middle of Antarctica, there are going to be cockroaches. Those might be either American or German cockroaches - either way, nasty stuff. Peroxide, followed by an IPA rubdown, will make the clean-up easier. Not easy - just easier. It also does a fair job with removing the odor. And most southerners won't call them roaches - they call them Palmetto bugs, but those tend to be MUCH larger - same family, different species.
I think those were german cockroaches. Agreed, they do tend to live everywhere, but in colder climates they are not as common when there isn't an infestation. American cockroaches are common in Texas, they are huge. They don't usually infest like german ones do, more often live under decks or other damp places. When they sneak their way inside it can be quite jolting to see such a huge nasty creature.
I live in fl, bought my first house 9 years ago here and they included a stove with the house. A year or two later the stove quit working... i took it apart to fix, the inside of the circuit board that switches relays to the stove had been shorted out by a dead roach. Its possible leaving roach bits in the power supply could ruin it months or years down the line, it would seem their shells can actually conduct electricity pretty well.
Those are German Cockroaches. They come for the food, and stay for the warmth. Also, the power supply is the main thing the roaches are attracted to, so I bet there were quite a few dead ones in there. They go into the power supply because of the heat it generates, accidentally touch two points, and get absolutely fried. That's why a lot of roach consoles won't power on. The power supply gets fried.
I will have to agree with Shinoda about the bugs being German Roaches. They are extremely hard to get rid of. When you see one, there is a small nest around somewhere, without a doubt. It is not the warmth they seek, but dark & small places they look for. The best way to get rid of them is to get a Bug Spray Boom and place it in the Attic. Leave the home with your pets (even the fish) for a few hours.
I came over after watching TronicsFix's video. Wasn't dissapointed. As a proponent of Right to Repair (and not choking turtles with discarded heatsinks), I love watching videos like this! Looking forward to the next video.
Reminds me of my 1st place…had some paper plates on top of refrigerator and one evening i reached for 1 and knocked them over….the amount of roaches was unbelievable…after that the wife and i went to store and removed everything from kitchen and sprayed everything after that we never seen them again as we moved 3 months later
This is literally so gross. lol. I came over here from Steve’s channel cuz I just had to see this nasty thing cleaned. I don’t really have a soft stomach, but this one made it turn a little bit. Kudos for the patience and willingness to clean off the bug “cement”.
I'd definitely use a cutter and buff the outer black plastic case to remove the scratches; I did this with a super slim PS3 and all but the deepest scratches were removed.
Very satisfying video to watch. Keep them coming. Maybe not so gross with bugs but restoring ones. Although the bug ones are fun to watch. You can tell you take great care and like what you are doing. Great job!
@@crazysailer5350Yup had the same case here unfortunately. Had god awful neighbors that finally left, but they left fucking roaches which infected the entire apartment building. Their unit was literally a roach nest.
First time ever visitor to your channel. I am just sharing my first impression(s). EVERYTHING within your video is great. The background, lighting, the crisp clean sharp quality, the presentation with the excellent monolog and commentary. Let's not forget what I perceive as expert and talented video editing of unnecessary scenes and seamless fade-ins/outs... the fast motion through time consuming tasks in the disassembly and assembly that keeps the viewer interested and not tempted to "click away" is awesome! The only thing - and I mean the ONLY editing choice I have issue with (and this is just me CONSISTANTLY across the board with almost all creators of video) is the edited in of looping background music. That's the only thing that made me want to leave at a couple points. In this viewer's opinion, the music is not needed to "set a mood" or to keep the viewers from getting bored. When the music stopped around 6:17 I was grateful until it resumed later. The soap being stirred into the water made me pause the video and visit the latrine, the truth be told....
This is always my favorite part of the repair process, it's just so satisfying. I'm not sure which is worse, a machine from a smoker or bugs. They're both nasty! Goo Gone helps dissolve a surprising array of disgusting substances btw, along with bathroom/kitchen cleaning sprays.
You should pickup some gun cleaning patches, they come in different sizes and clean just as good if not better than q-tips. They are made of cotton and come in very small to big sizes. Fairly cheap to come across and they definitely helped me cleaning my old consoles.
I once bought a broken PC at a yard sale and it had 100’s of live bugs in it! Suffice it to say I only was able to retrieve the HDD and the ram the little guys were running up my arm as I was removing the parts! I tossed the rest into my outdoors trash can had to and hosed it down with bleach which prompted an army of them to start running up the sides of the inside of the can! I had to use a big can of raid just to kill them all! 😂
Yep. Those are cockroaches. The worst kind…they love to get into electronics and short things out. A lot of people don’t realize this, but they are a fire hazard because of this. And all it takes to prevent them is not leaving food and water out, and some occasional light cleaning. A word of caution, if I was you, I wouldn’t take something like that for cleaning anymore, personally. The eggs those things lay are impervious to almost everything. In order to get rid of them, you have to let them hatch out of their eggs every 2 weeks and poison them before they have a chance to lay eggs. Usually, it takes 3 waves, 2 weeks apart.
Pretty fuckin nuts how difficult they make it to actually clean these things. I've had mine for 2 years and I'd love to clean it but this looks like a nightmare
Yes man, they are cockroaches. I live in New Jersey and we get a lot of cockroaches. That was a disgusting system. And this is coming from someone who sees them on a daily basis
Over here in England we have a thing called Brasso wadding. Its a mild metal polish in like cotton wool type material. Perfect for removing bug guts from metal then just wipe with IPA. Much faster I would think.
i think i can speak on his behalf, my old ps4 looked like this(dead roaches every where) but give people like him the benefit of the doubt. if his story is the same as mine we live in apartments and well if your neighbor has roaches so do you
Yeah i used to live in apartment with disgusting neighbors. It was a constant battle to keep them from infesting our apartment as well. As soon as we moved, no problems with roaches.
Thanks for the vid. But you should probably more careful with those bugs, if it's really a cockroaches, when they die there will be tons of bacteria that could infect you. My neighbor had his feet infected really bad after stepping one of those mfs, and those bacteria inside their body seeping through skin. Great video btw.
Came here from Steve's channel and I'm always looking for channels like this. Well worth the sub here after seeing the transformation of that nasty PS5.
Honestly speaking, i also found alot of cockroaches invested unit when buying used ps5. Idk if it just the design that attract some bugs/insect or its just the previous owner have terribly dirty room invested with bugs
Cant imagine how someone can let something get so bad. If this is how bad the inside of the ps5 looks, imagine how bad the house and everything thing else in that house is. And someone LIVES there in that filth!!
Definitely give it to you after the hard work if cleaning that v. gross bug debris! I like the fact you don't seem to skip as many of the tear down steps as TronicsFix does ;-)

In the United States under the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, manufacturers CANNOT void a warranty solely because a consumer has opened up the device or had it repaired by a third party. However, if the tampering or third-party repair causes damage, the warranty can be voided for that particular issue (this can happen regardless if sticker is removed or not, think of how they say that damage was your negligence, not our defect and void your warranty anyways).
I found carpet beetle larvae (AKA carpet worms) inside one at work once.. they’re harmless to people but CAN start eating through the internal cables. Also extremely annoying to get rid of. No idea how the guy had them in his console unless he actually had it set up on the floor.
I used to work at a rental furniture company and knew customers that had them and to us they are just roaches. I used to go in my backyard and take my clothes off and shake them like crazy. Sometimes when I got back to the office I me and my coworker would strip down to our underwear and shake our clothes. That's why Tronics video grossed me out when I saw him open it up and I am still itching from it.
Like the videos. I notice the comments about the magic eraser scuffing the plastic. Have you considered applying some Automotive plastic polish at the end? Many brands can be applied by hand without a buffer. They are used to repair the gloss sheen on trim.
You should maybe think about getting one of those one handed battery operated froth / mixers I think it would faster, easier and more efficient than using your finger to mix the soap, great video I’m not sure if I could clean a console with that type of particular issue lol.
For anyone living in apartments, where those bugs are commonplace, keep your consoles in your bedrooms, and have glue traps near your setup. They come in handy. But, do clean your consoles once every year.
For those who don't know moisture attracts cockroachs so it doesn't matter how clean your house is if there is a leak or something they will decide to move in that being said a dirty house doesn't usually equal cockroachs
these are the kind of roaches that end up as infestations in most houses if you dont take care of it. i shudder thinking about it. anyways. i had to come straight here after steve posted the video link bc i needed to see this thing cleaned up. it looks amazing now.

Yes I work for Orkin pest control they are German roaches they love any heat source and also like the kitchen area and bathrooms as well (kitchen because of heat sources and food, bathrooms for moisture areas)
It's so strange to have bugs in a console.... This summer, after years of issue and errors message, I decide to full disassembly my mother's vorwerk Bimby (around 13 years of sitting in kitchen). When I start to disassemble, I smell the worst mell. It was really really FULL of bugs EVERYWHERE. I start to remove all park, clean with vacuum and then spray in each board the circuit cleaning solution. And then back everything together. I discovered that everything star to work as the first day. So no issue, no errors nothing. I can't imagine that bugs can be so districting for circuit. Do it yourself, is more funny, and cheap
At 1:19 Voided warrenty.... Those voided removed stickers are technically illegal, buy federal law. Other UA-camrs that I watch had that information. I dropped my connector in vinegar 12% for 2/3 days or a week I don't remember correctly.
The rust was gone, but there are just markings left where the rust was 😂
It's working perfectly ! Same for my N64 ! My family used to put alcohol-based parfum in there. Bad idea if you ask me
Oh yeah and, they had tiny bugs in them, like, worms, IDK how it's possible but, hey 😂
I used to repair electronics and every time I see an infested device like this, I remember the absolutely foul smell that emanates.
I don’t even understand how could one make electronics smell. It’s all metal and cables I don’t think they absorb odor that well
@@convection20cockroaches like these use an oily musk scent to communicate iirc. That in addition to their corpses creates the smell they mention
@@convection20its purely the biological stink bomb these rodents become/are
Stfg it’s like such a unique disgusting smell
From the south (Texas) we call them roaches/cockroaches
Imagine how much time the factory has to build one PlayStation..it’s soo detail and it’s also crazy how the bugs get soo deep into the PlayStation
I can’t even imagine in my worst nightmares what the house this console came out of looks like.
yeah my old ps4 was like this, it sucks having roaches we balm once every 6 months but if you neighbor has roaches you aslo will
@@crazysailer5350I’m sorry to hear that. I hope that this will be resolved 🙏
Exactly, Why even invest a lot of money to let the house destroy it. The owner probably fat as well. Clean and you'll have nice things forever.
How much does this cost seems likecitbwould be easier to buy a new one
@@100Bucks did you have to put that fat part in goddamn 💀
This is my first time watching your channel and I gotta say that I love when things are done correctly!! Amazing job!!
Buddy watching you put that back together was so peaceful and mesmerizing good job man
Wow! The inside of the disc drive looks waaay better. Actually, everything looks amazing after the cleanup! Well done!
This is literally so gross. lol. I came over here from Steve’s channel cuz I just had to see this nasty thing cleaned. I don’t really have a soft stomach, but this one made it turn a little bit. Kudos for the patience and willingness to clean off the bug “cement”.
That was a good one. Loving the Collab between you and Tronix. You definitely got the full experience 😂
Great job!
We don't have roaches in the UK.
Didn't realise they would smell.
Always makes me think what the house must be like where things like this come from 😢
yeah my old ps4 was like this, it sucks having roaches we balm once every 6 months but if you neighbor has roaches you aslo will
@@crazysailer5350Yup had the same case here unfortunately.
I appreciate your feedback
I think it's fine
What a very enjoyable and relaxing video. Thank you Robert and nicely done!
I guess you'd much prefer dead bug bodies than some.... old tobacco smell?
@@EpicBunty I did say I wasn't sure which is worse. They're both frikkin horrible.
For me the smoker console would be worse. Absolutely kill my asthma
Lol, great/horrible story!
That's literally horrifying
I've had mine for 2 years and I'd love to clean it but this looks like a nightmare
it's really not that bad.
Usually they aren’t supposed to be this bad
Yeah without a vid like this I’d be second guessing every decision
Yes man, they are cockroaches. I live in New Jersey and we get a lot of cockroaches. That was a disgusting system. And this is coming from someone who sees them on a daily basis
Over here in England we have a thing called Brasso wadding. Its a mild metal polish in like cotton wool type material. Perfect for removing bug guts from metal then just wipe with IPA. Much faster I would think.
We have that too, it's by eagle one wadding polish
Would love to see you reacting to them fake videos where they clean stuff up and fix it.
Up
Those videos are so ridiculous!
Good call on the mask and gloves, personally I would've worn a Tyvek bunny suit, great video!
It blows my mind that I literally can't imagine the person who is able to afford a ps5 but also lives in such nasty conditions!
i think i can speak on his behalf, my old ps4 looked like this(dead roaches every where) but give people like him the benefit of the doubt. if his story is the same as mine we live in apartments and well if your neighbor has roaches so do you
Yeah i used to live in apartment with disgusting neighbors. It was a constant battle to keep them from infesting our apartment as well. As soon as we moved, no problems with roaches.
@@crazysailer5350move out you can do better in life stop being so comfortable
I'm so intrigued, how do you get to a point where you just know how to disassemble and reassemble every single thing? It's so cool to me
dang dude. You deserve WAAAAAY more subs that 9k. I just cant believe how many wires and screws you're taking out and still knowing where to put them!
You really deserve this console Steve really set you up with them bugs 😂
Thanks for the vid.
But you should probably more careful with those bugs, if it's really a cockroaches, when they die there will be tons of bacteria that could infect you.
My neighbor had his feet infected really bad after stepping one of those mfs, and those bacteria inside their body seeping through skin.
Great video btw.
That's disgusting 😂 nice job on this one.
Thanks!
Came here from Steve's channel and I'm always looking for channels like this. Well worth the sub here after seeing the transformation of that nasty PS5.
After all that grossy mess you had to go through I would have to say yes. You may keep the PS5 my friend. 😁👍
Honestly speaking, i also found alot of cockroaches invested unit when buying used ps5. Idk if it just the design that attract some bugs/insect or its just the previous owner have terribly dirty room invested with bugs
Imagine what the house looked like 🤮🤮🤮
Fr ew 😭😭
Nice job on your first PS5 deep cleaning. Very tedious job but always satisfying!
Cant imagine how someone can let something get so bad. If this is how bad the inside of the ps5 looks, imagine how bad the house and everything thing else in that house is. And someone LIVES there in that filth!!
Definitely give it to you after the hard work if cleaning that v. gross bug debris! I like the fact you don't seem to skip as many of the tear down steps as TronicsFix does ;-)
If you have roaches in your PS5, that speaks more to how you’re living. Like wtf 😂
Probably from a drug dealers house....
He should give it to you for sure. That one piece that had forty-three screws, that is worth price of admission right there.
Still beats owning a clean xbox
Lol
Also beats being able to play PS3 games in 720 30fps
Great video! Subscribed, thank you TronicsFix for sending me here!
I just found your channel because of TronicsFix. Jesus lord what a work. Subscribed!
I would’ve love to see the power supply cleaned. It’s really dangerous because if it’s charged you could potentially die. I'm looking forward on you teaching us how to clean ps5 psu the safe way. Thank for the video. BTW Steve brought me here 😁
In the United States under the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, manufacturers CANNOT void a warranty solely because a consumer has opened up the device or had it repaired by a third party. However, if the tampering or third-party repair causes damage, the warranty can be voided for that particular issue (this can happen regardless if sticker is removed or not, think of how they say that damage was your negligence, not our defect and void your warranty anyways).
Thanks to you, this type of cockroach will become common in your area. Congratulations 👏
Great job! Now some car compound and microfiber towel for the glossy part to remove all scratches!
Thanks for laying out the screws. I'm gonna use this video as a guide to put mine back together.
Guess UA-cam giving me a good recommendation, I’ll give this guy a sub since it was satisfying to see it cleaned after.
These and the grass cutting videos are so relaxing
having your console this dirty should be a punishable crime by the Law 😢
and whoever managed clean it should be a national hero
Like the videos. I notice the comments about the magic eraser scuffing the plastic. Have you considered applying some Automotive plastic polish at the end? Many brands can be applied by hand without a buffer. They are used to repair the gloss sheen on trim.
I'll have to check in to this. Thanks for the comment
TronicsFix brought me here, subbed. And respect for the cleaning i wouldend touch it not even for a million.
Incredible video here, Tronicsfix made a great choice sending it to you for deep cleaning.
4:23 at that point, just chuck the console. 😖
Nice job! It looks great!
Great job and fair play to you with the bugs 🐛 buddy I'm lucky if l find a spider keep up the fantastic work 😀
Thanks 👍
For those who don't know moisture attracts cockroachs so it doesn't matter how clean your house is if there is a leak or something they will decide to move in that being said a dirty house doesn't usually equal cockroachs
Damn didn't know that us there anyway to prevent this I wanna know how to keep the ps5 in the best possible condition for years to come
I’m afraid of taking off the plates and stuff so I don’t break it, then there’s this guy
i discovered u from tronicsfix and i absloutly love ur content, genius.
these are the kind of roaches that end up as infestations in most houses if you dont take care of it. i shudder thinking about it. anyways. i had to come straight here after steve posted the video link bc i needed to see this thing cleaned up. it looks amazing now.
Dude. Your video was amazing. It's show how the professional work. ❤
Oh, at first, I thought, Mr. Steve will do all the work then he mention that will give it to you. And, I am entertained and also gain some knowledge from your video.
So, thank you so much, for both of you
I bought a PS5 from someone last summer and when I opened it to clean it up... Multiple Roaches were crawling out of it...I was stomping on them, It was Crazy.
Something to try, when we clean birdstrikes and bugs off of aircraft, believe it or not, glass cleaner removes the remains and residue better than alcohol.
Where do you live where there are no cockroaches? I wanna move there
Nice work. I'm honestly flabbergasted at how this sort of thing happens to consoles!!
I’m flabbergasted at how disgusting some ppls homes are yuck
@@Astro1554 Some people can't help it. I have never had them but I've been to houses with them that were clean they just lived in an area with bugs. Once a few get in it's like impossible to get rid of them lol.
Excellent Job with the Restorish-on (Ha!)! That PS5 was in a horrid state. I've cleaned some heavy smokers electronics before but I think Bug carcasses/feces are several magnitudes worse. I'd wonder how it got this bad and how long it took to get there, but my gut tells me I'd hate the answers. Steve should definately let you keep this console - He might fight you on the SSD, though! :D

Voided warrenty....
Those voided removed stickers are technically illegal, buy federal law. Other UA-camrs that I watch had that information. Apparently there is up to it either a $5,000 or $10,000 fine, per incident.
You should look that up, maybe you can get Sony to give you some money....
