Can anyone tell me if Sony are fobbing me off? Thanks in advance
@LuisMartinez-dw8qx PS5 contains liquid metal that is sealed to increase the performance of the console and I think also to keep the console cool. If you put your PS5 vertical, there is a chance that the liquid metal will seap through the seal and fall onto the motherboard and or the bottom of the console while the console is warm from using it. Once it dries it will remain in those places and dry up. Which will damage the system and is unrepairable unless you get a new motherboard and clean the bottom I think
So it doesn't raise the console a bit to make room for the vent at the bottom? The only reason I got mine horizontal is because I thought the vent needs air to not overheat the power supply.
I have my PS5 (launch model) set up vertical with the stand, but it was more of a "hey this is here, might as well use it" type of thing, it really isn't needed very much, but it does feel sturdier with the stand.
I have an issue with my new PS5 slim digital version, let me know if the same happens to you but when I stand it vertically (without stand) the floor is pressing against the left cover and sometimes it is easy that it detaches. It seems it’s not sturdy enough to stay vertically on its own otherwise the left plate can detach easily. I’m wondering if the stand fixes this
@@buttermilk5364 yeah, it’s on the floor. Seems stable, the plate only seems to easily detach if I start playing around with the cables or try to move it which makes it lift up and detach. :( might have to get the stand I guess
ive kept my base model horizontal for a long time because there were reports that the heat from the cpu sometimes caused the thermal paste to leak out onto the motherboard when vertical
Airflow there are small vents on the bottom of the console so when you set is vertical without the stand yes it may look like it’s not hurting it but in the long run it will eventually start overheating
I had mine vertical for 13 months and it was fine, but then month 14 it started dramatically overheating in every game, warning about overheating and shutting down. The fans would get 10x louder than they ever did before. The air that was being blown was not even warm, meaning the only two options were a temperature sensor failure, or the Liquid Metal leaked out of the seal leaving no heat transfer to the heat sink. But for the first 13 months it was perfect. I don’t know if this was some rare defect or if it is common.
this makes me think the stand is more intended for the digital only consoles the disc drives basically act as a stand in its self 😄 I want to make my own stand though out of a chunk of aluminum
Before vertical stand: my slim ps5 disc drive was rather loud in vertical with no stand. With cheap clip in horizontal stand: disc drive a little quieter. With vertical stand: whisper quiet. Good enough for me.
playstation 5 don't like being vertical, the liquid metal used to make contact with the heatspreader very often pour on the rest of the motherboard after reliquefying under heavy prolonged load
What about just adding like 4 small siliconne feet direclky to the console just to get the anti-slip effect, and also raising a bit for more airflow? It can be seen in the video that the stand actually blocks all the air vents on the bottom, besides the small gap on the rear part of the stand....
One big reason: earthquakes. Especially with rhe adhesive strips, it'll allow further stability for those wanting it vertical. Living in earthquake prone area (iirc sony is Japanese, which is such an area), this is a big concern. I have my horizontal in a cabinet. My tv is wall mounted. I live in San Francisco, which a big one is overdue 😵💫
And yet the same Spawn Wave was complaining the PS5 Pro didn't come with a stand when it announced, and yet 10 months ago it was useless...so many contradictions with gaming content creators
Fast forward 10 months later, everyone is upset a near useless stand is not included. The launch PS5 is the only time a stand was ever included, because it was needed to set it horizontally.
Don't you think that with the stand, the vents at the bottom are more exposed to expel as much heat? Perhaps without the stands, the vents at the bottom get blocked?
I also have the OG PS five in vertical mode and nope no issues since day one it runs like a champ….. if you have one that works and you take care of it, it will last…..
Simps are going to buy it though. Almost as bad as the $1000 Apple stand. Take things away then charge more for a replacement. Or make something not needed and flashy then taunt the user base with the word “premium.”
What really bothers me is that for the same price, you can buy stands on the internet that come with cooler fans, LED lights and buttons to control the system (on/off). Some of these “parallel” stands also offer controller charger stands built in. Not the best quality, but way more functional.
I bought my Slim via eBay and the stand was included in that auction… I ended up reselling that stand 😂 the slim stands perfectly fine without one as well
I think the only console I ever kept stood vertically was the Wii. Every other system I've sat down horizontal.

I’m confused my launch PS5 came with vertical stand in the box
The ps5 slim doesn't come with a vertical stand in the box like the original one did, that's why this exists
Living under a rock huh?
I have my PS5 (launch model) set up vertical with the stand, but it was more of a "hey this is here, might as well use it" type of thing, it really isn't needed very much, but it does feel sturdier with the stand.
I have an issue with my new PS5 slim digital version, let me know if the same happens to you but when I stand it vertically (without stand) the floor is pressing against the left cover and sometimes it is easy that it detaches. It seems it’s not sturdy enough to stay vertically on its own otherwise the left plate can detach easily. I’m wondering if the stand fixes this
You have it sitting on the floor?
@@buttermilk5364 yeah, it’s on the floor. Seems stable, the plate only seems to easily detach if I start playing around with the cables or try to move it which makes it lift up and detach. :( might have to get the stand I guess
ive kept my base model horizontal for a long time because there were reports that the heat from the cpu sometimes caused the thermal paste to leak out onto the motherboard when vertical
I have the slim and was wondering if I switch the plates to digital (disk drive removed) can it be set in the horizontal position?
Airflow there are small vents on the bottom of the console so when you set is vertical without the stand yes it may look like it’s not hurting it but in the long run it will eventually start overheating
The stand actually covers most of the vent
I recently switched my PS5 from vertical to horizontal because I heard that the liquid metal slides off the cooler when its vertical
It’s misinformation.
I’ve had my PS5 in the vertical position since it launched. Haven’t had any issues.
Watching this now knowing the pro doesn't come with the stand lessens the blow knowing you dont need the stand to keep it vertical
that thing can stand on itself very well dont need one
Horizontal always seemed safer and just made more sense considering everything else connected to the tv is horizontal.
this makes me think the stand is more intended for the digital only consoles the disc drives basically act as a stand in its self 😄 I want to make my own stand though out of a chunk of aluminum
If you set the console down on carpet, that extra stability helps.
Before vertical stand: my slim ps5 disc drive was rather loud in vertical with no stand. With cheap clip in horizontal stand: disc drive a little quieter. With vertical stand: whisper quiet. Good enough for me.
He says "why does it exist" while not realizing it has vents on that side of the system. Having the stand helps with airflow if placed standing up.
I just bought the PS5 slim along with the stand. It's always some extra support which really matters when you have a small kid around and a cat lol
playstation 5 don't like being vertical, the liquid metal used to make contact with the heatspreader very often pour on the rest of the motherboard after reliquefying under heavy prolonged load
@@Tigerhearty I'll have to take my chances.
Makes sense considering PS5 is a toy designed specifically for young children and entry level gamers
Cats are jerks
@@Kubush1 what? If that's the case then so is every console ever made just a toy made for kids and entry lvl gamers.
What about just adding like 4 small siliconne feet direclky to the console just to get the anti-slip effect, and also raising a bit for more airflow?
It can be seen in the video that the stand actually blocks all the air vents on the bottom, besides the small gap on the rear part of the stand....
The portal was a waste of money !
5:04 oh god... that triggers me .. LMAOOOO!! my neck goes itchy and all.. it was so uneven
It allows for proper airflow to prevent overheating, there you go
not really
There's very minimal air flow through the bottom vents. It isn't a primary intake and all exhaust exits the back.
Ok then why not design it to be able to stand upright better or have a plastic stand included?
So the OG PS5 comes with a stand, but they couldn't include it in the new version?
Like I said cash grab
Playstation has lost it's way...hopefully under new management things will eventually turn around
It almost pisses me off how much wasted materials and effort go into garbage products like this or their ps portal.
I have cats. The digital version is definitely going over sideways without a stand.
Don't you think that with the stand, the vents at the bottom are more exposed to expel as much heat?
Perhaps without the stands, the vents at the bottom get blocked?
Sony moneygrabbing at it's peak... wait, that's the Portal.
Mr Krab would say. MONEY.
I took my base ps5 off the stand and never put it back on
"hating money.". classic. It does look like a whole bunch of fun and $$.
No one:
Console manufacturers: how many cool things can we not make that people want in favor of some other random junk accessories
A use case I could imagine is PSVR 2 since you’ll have cables going everywhere.
Imagine being the engineer behind the slim vertical stand vs the engineer behind the slim horizontal stand
they're dating. vertical is the top of course
i thought that it was needed bcuz there were vents underneath and the stand would not allow contact between the vents with the ground
