At first when i heard i thought it was bad for game console perservation but if you gonna think about it it just makes sense because you need the software/firmwire to remarry the disc drive to the console just like on PS3 and PS4 you cant just swap the disc drives you need to remarry them its just like the drivers for peripherals or gpu on PC I think Sony did a great job for the modular disc drive but they need to do an offline tool to remarry the drive just like their firmwires on PS3, PS4 and PS5 you can install it without an internet if you download the file and put it on and flashdrive then put the flashdrive on your console then install i think that is the solution for it Sony is gonna find a fix for that in the future dont worry

There is still a high chance the data will be corrupted by disconnecting the disk drive like that. I reckon if you disconnected it then immediately unplugged the PS5 it would corrupt and data left in the RAM.
if the ps5 is turned off (not sleep) or unplugged without any power there is no data left in the ram anyway so no corruption can occour other than faulty game files which nowadays even consoles verify the data after copy, that means if u reuplug and continue the install / download it checks where it stopped & verify the last couple gibabyte or so, also a reason why ur console wont start the copy/download immediately - tho it still can happen but very very rare, maybe if u unplug - insta replug & unplug over and over again

Wii U discs are essentially identical to Blu-ray Discs with minor modifications so Nintendo didnt have to pay the Blu-ray Disc Association for every disc printed, I believe the modifications are that it uses an irregular file system , the thickness is different and a smoothing technique is used on the rim of the disc.

Curious fact: the ps4’ and the ps5’ optical drives lack the IR laser needed for CDs, since the ps1 game is a CD, not a DVD or blu-ray it just thinks the disc it’s damaged and tries again, when it’s in fact incapable of reading it. They just have the red and blue-violet lasers for DVDs and blu-rays respectively.

Is this a function that I can access off the dashboard or is it just accessible only when I put in say a region B or C Blu-ray ( I have a bunch of region locked Blu's in storage). If you change the region of the discdrive will it be specific for that seperate discdrive or is it the entire console? Lets say you want one discdrive for europe region games and one for usa. Please test that out by swaping the discdrives back and forth.
4:04 my ps5 is horizontally but i plan pn getting a vertical stand didnt care for it being vertical until recently where i thought it would look much better standing vertically
It struggled with the ps1 game because PS1 games are CD, and ps4 and 5 don’t support CDs of any kind, even music CDs, because they don’t have the IR laser inside, Blu Rays, DVDs, and CDs all use different wavelengths. PS4 and 5 only support blu ray for games and movies, and dvd for movies.
lol yeah I wasn’t even thinking about the disc being in there spinning while I moved it. I’ve moved consoles plenty of times with discs in them, but they’re always off

You can move a PS4 with the disc in and nothing happens that's an Xbox that scratches up the disc I move my PlayStation 4 while it's on all the time never had a scratch on any of my discs
I'm happy to see that replacing your disc drive is now an option in case it breaks. But ofcourse sony releases a 700-800 dollar "upgrade" without a disc drive

You won't risk changing the region code but you will unplug the disc drive while it's running and you will flip the console around while it's reading a disc lol
they have this limited amount of region changes on the ps5 because technically the 4k disc drive in the console is region free for all discs it’s just a software limitation so people don’t buy dvds or blurays with foreign region codes cheaper from elsewhere than their place
It hardly seems anticonsumer to not have backwards compatibility, more like just a missed opportunity. Even if they did offer it, it would just load up a PS1 emulator anyway. It could probably emulate PS2 as well, but PS3 would be very difficult to do; at that point, just keep your PS3 around and you can still play your PS1 and PS2 games no problem

The reason why the ps1 disc wasn't exactly reading correctly is probably because the ps1 used CD's to store games not DVD's

This Blu-ray drive isn't setup to read CDs that's why it won't read a PS1 game at all, it's totally unreadable
