      Hi Yeriika Areliiz!! My son and daughter both go to a Christian school. My sons been in preschool daycare since he was two. I lost my job because of the virus. We decided that I will homeschool my son he’s 4. He has really bad asthma and we are scared to send him back to school. Since I’ll be at home why not I’ll give it a try. Fingers crossed everything

    I WOULD NOT talk to state or local education officials first. Go to hslda.org, find your state and read what the laws for your state are. HSLDA stands for home school legal defense association. These are lawyers and paralegals who are experts on homeschooling. They defend homeschoolers, testify before and lobby state legislatures; so they have current, accurate info for each state.

    • @tiffanyboivin6295
      @tiffanyboivin6295 4 роки тому

      Why do you need someone to defend you legally? What happens when you decide to homeschool?

    • @crystalwalker6496
      @crystalwalker6496 4 роки тому +2

      Tiffany Boivin homeschooling is like any other human right that gets protected by civil rights attorneys. Most school districts are fine. Mine has not bothered me. Then there are the districts and officials that harass homeschoolers because of bigotry of “how dare parents teach their children”. Anyway, hslda stays current on laws and won’t give you bad information like officials might. They will also explain laws to you and if the need were to arise, explain laws and case history to school officials who simply didn’t fully know. For those few who are being confrontational against homeschooling parents, they will help resolve the issue, through the courts if need be.

      Tiffany Boivin All states have compulsory education laws on the books. Homeschoolers have to provide an education for their children. They can choose for that to not take place in brick and mortar schools, but they cannot choose not to educate their children. Homeschool parents must comply with their state’s homeschool laws.

      So to homeschool, you look up the laws for your state and make sure you are following them. It helps having hslda, a local homeschool group or to go to a homeschool convention in your state to ask questions of veteran homeschooling parents.

      You are SO RIGHT! Before I pulled my kid out to homeschool, I read everything I could from that sight, spoke to the school my child was attending at that time about utilizing some of their resources, and of course they told me no! I went to a board of education meeting here and spoke to those who could do something about that and of course I was given different responses (the responses I needed to hear in the 1st place)! And I did not have to show them what I had read on the HSLDA's site for them to do what's right!

    I have always toyed with the idea of homeschooling my two boys (so I always enjoy your HS videos) but we are really fortunate to have had a Christian school that we love locally. With the current climate homeschooling is definitely back on the table. These videos are very helpful! Thanks, Becky!

    Hey Becky- love your channel! I have a quick question for you, and I can’t remember if you’ve addressed it before. What made you go with Teaching Textbooks as opposed to BJU Math Distance Learning? I’m thinking about transitioning from BJU parent led Math to either distance learning or Teaching Textbooks.

      Check with your local laws. Nothing is free. Been my experience. There are some places that do have some free resources, but every state has its own ordinances.

      Every state is different but from what I've heard, no, most states don't provide homeschoolers with anything for free. There is a program called K12 that some states participate in and if so, they do have some things they provide but for the most part, it's up to the homeshooling parents to purchase what their kids need to do schooling at home.

    • @kimmerrou
      @kimmerrou 4 роки тому +2

      K12 is considered distance learning, and there is a difference between homeschooling and distance learning.
      There is Ambleside Online, but some of the items you will need to purchase. Other than that, I've bot heard of free homeschooling curriculum. The K12 is public school at home.

      We are a part of a homeschool charter in California. Because charters are public schools, they do provide free curriculum that are aligned with state standards. In addition, they also have special order requests that can be submitted for pre-approved materials that are not religious. Those are also free to the families. Any religious materials would have to be paid for by the family, but our school library does have many readers and encyclopedias that religious based curriculums have scheduled that are available to be checked out. So yes, materials can be free in certain circumstances but a majority is not.
