For years, I've wondered and worried about how to keep grades and create a transcript for my kids. We plan to homeschool through high school so a transcript and a report card is a definite MUST! Very nice of this mom to share this template.
My grading plan is the easiest. My high schoolers take courses. I teach to mastery. When they master the material, they get credit for the course - they get an A. If they don’t master the course, no credit is awarded. When they get enough credits to graduate and the right courses, they graduate.
May I know if they are courses from one website or different websites?
So you don't grade their work at all?
@@mchobbit2951 I check their work for Mastery. They redo until it is right or they don’t get credit.

@@Peejayyesthetics I should add, you determine what mastery is. Have clear primary learning objectives for each class. If those are met, then it is mastered. There will be other secondary objectives that you just want to expose your child too, but they don’t necessarily need to retain all the info for life. For example if we are studying Ancient Rome, I may want my kids to know some key chronology- the change from kingdom to republic to empire and some key players. I may not care if they have dates of battles memorized or can recite all the emperors in order. I test their retention through oral narration (they tell me what they’ve learned) and by asking for reports - or Waldorf style lesson books with essays and illustrations. I don’t do a lot of testing. Enough that they aren’t freaked by the SAT, but it’s not the most helpful evaluation tool for homeschool in my opinion.

Oh my word. This weekend I'm definitely going to try this out. My boys are going into 10th and 11th grade..I wonder if I can go back and fill in things from the last couple of years to present?
Yes, you definitely could. It would take a bit of work to go back and fill in all of those course descriptions and grades but it would work!

This is so helpful!! The only problem im having is when I type in the grades the weighted grade doesn’t automatically type in like in the video. I’m not if it’s bc I’m using excel or what not. Actually I’m using google sheets. Maybe that’s the problem?
I am glad I came across your channel. My wife and I are fixing to pull our 11 year old son out of the public school system. We have three children, our two oldest ones have grown and out of school now. Having watched them go through the public school system and dealing with some of the bull crap that comes with public schooling we have decided it is about time to start homeschooling our youngest. I do not know anyone around near me who homeschools to learn from so I have been doing a lot of research. One thing I have been trying to find is how to do grading and how to keep records such as transcripts. Our state does not require reporting, keeping records, state testing, or anything els. Our state just asks that we teach at least 180 days and that we teach 4 things, language arts, math, science, social studies. Even though our state does not require record keeping we want to keep records for CYA reasons in the event something happens..Thank you for posting this program..

@@aplacetonest SO sorry to bother you with this. Have you got videos on books, ideals on books, and how to use them for records. Because our state has no requirements on anything other than giving our son an education. I have seen some books I think we would like to use for his education. They are on Amazon and we can order them according to his grade level. The books even come with tests in them at the end of each (I am guessing each lesson) chapter or lesson. Are those tests ok to use for his progress and records or is it better to create our own test. I would like to try and stay with you and your videos because I was really starting to get confused from all of the information out there and some information I was only able to find from you so far.

This is such a timely video! This is our first week of school, and I've been stressing about grade keeping. I know that transcripts really don't matter until they reach high school, but my oldest is in 6th grade. Did you use this for your 2nd grader? I have some forms I purchased from the company I bought my curriculum from, but no info on how to keep record of any of the grades on them. My daughters in 1st grade.

Yes, I used that method with my oldest daughter, starting in 8th grade, and I plan to with my youngest as well.
Thank you so much. I just began homeschooling my son in the first semester of his 10th grade year. It was not something that I had a chance to really prepare for. This is his second semester and I struggled with everything last semester. Thank God I can get things in proper order now!

How do i use the for two different kids in different grades i can figure out how to add my son
I have been wondering how to weight the grading I want to split it up among the different categories, does each state or county have a guideline on how to do it? I was thinking of doing the following: Daily work 15%, Quizzes 30%, Test 40% & 15% Projects. Do you have any advice? Thanks
That sounds like a good but of course, each parent should decide how things should be weighted and if that's what works for you....it's perfect! :)

I'm so glad it was helpful! I don't personally keep grades at those lower levels but you certainly could if you wanted to. It's also possible that your state might require you to keep grades, even at those lower grades. Ours doesn't but you'll want to check with your state to find out if they do.
How do you do the credits? Do you have to add the credits or does it do it after so much work?
You can assign a credit value to each course and it will automatically generate to a transcript within the program.

My biggest concern is legitmate credit. Are colleges or trade schools etc. accepting homeschool transcripts like this? We are in 5th and 1st grades, but I am just thinking ahead. In CA here and the school system is a mess so we could be doing this long term.

QUESTION:
I downloaded the version for Microsoft Excel, and COURSES Tabs do not populate in as needed? and I cannot manualy add them. Does anyone know how I can fix this? Thank you!
I'm homeschooling (mostly) by myself and I am so confused. Do you list all the classes taken or do some of the classes go under core subjects like Math or U.S. History? I have a transcript from my last school and they listed the subjects and credits.
I list everything she takes because even if it's not a "core subject" her other subjects do count as electives.

What did you think about the Notgrass Bible curr?
We loved it and used it for years. Right now we are getting ready to start something new but I still love the Notgrass Draw to Learn Bible curriculum.
We know the Notgrass family personally. They run the Homeschool Dramatic Society here where we live. Mary Evelyn(their daighter) writes a huge play every year for the homeschool kids and directs it. They are such sweet people and sooo talented. I have never used their curr but I figured it would be great. This year our play is gonna be about the life of Amy Carmichael. Last year it was George Mueller. I'm always excited to see their production. My daughter loves it.
How would I go about making a disk or usb backup of this record? Can you do that?
You would just need to save the file to "save as" on your computer or usb.
Do you just save as a different file for each student you have?

Have you had any troubles with longer course names? It won’t fit a three word long course name and cuts it off on the summary and grade report. I can’t find a way to edit those columns to be wider, they seem to be protected in excel with no way to enable editing.
I haven't had that issue but perhaps check the instructions she includes with the download because there might be a solution on there for you.
hello! I did my freshman and sophomore (9 and 10) from a different school and junior and senior(11 and 12) from different. I will be giving improvement exam for 12 because I was sick and could have performed much better, plus I'm taking a gap year anyway.
How will I get my transcripts? Will they have new marks and my school will have to make a marksheet with the new data or is it fine if it just sends the marksheets of 11 and 12 separately? Please answer me...
I'm not really sure. You need to ask your parent or guardian and the school you attended for high school. I wish I could be more helpful but every state is different in how they keep records.

Yes, but in 2nd grade I'm not sure you need to keep such thorough records unless your state requires it. In our state, I didn't start recording grades until 8th grade but that's just our preference.

I’ve been wondering why some people who don’t live in states that require a specific number of days keep attendance records? We always just did completed work, wondering about other styles of recordkeeping
In our state we are required to school a minimum number of days and keep attendance but I guess every state is different.

No, once it's downloaded it's all done on the computer, not the internet.
I want to ask a question that I really want you to answer it please. I'm in 8th grade but I'm homeschooling because I feel others are very immature or I am more mature then people my age. My teachers have been saying it for years. 1 thing I want to get straight is the credits because I will be going to a on campus school next year. I'm going to be taking an algebra course and hopefully a geometry one to and during the summer algebra 2. I wanna know if the school will give me credits for those and also let me take trigonometry to
Your parent or guardian should be keeping your grades and the credits that each class is worth. Once you're done with high school, they should turn those grades and credits into a transcript that colleges will require before allowing you to attend there. So each math class would be 1 credit. In our state, high-schoolers are required to take 4 math classes so that would be 4 math credits on the transcript. Does that make sense?

I love this and have been using it since july but my harddrive in my laptop crashed today and my quick and affordable fix was to buy a chromebook till I can replace my laptop. Does anyone know how I can use this with a chromebook.
Microsoft Office is available as online software on a monthly subscription, so you can use Word, Excel, etc. in a Chrome browser. That's how I do it on my Chromebook.

Wait so what exactly are transcripts? I don't have a highschooler yet just tiny people lol is it just grades?
You have to keep record of their courses, credits earned, grades, etc. as it's something the college or university will want to see as part of the admission process.

ok , so ive downloaded .. can anyone tell me how to use this for more then one child?
You would just need to make two copies, one for each child.
Actually I had to download one for each child and name the file a different name and save them separately. Little difficult but worth it
Also mine didn't enter in as A's when I put in 100% it would enter in as a .1 not 1.0 and on the summery it will show as an F. I followed everything to a t. Even where it said don't enter the credit until after entering grades . It doesn't make sense .
So basically, the grade is showing as .80 or a .95 which is an F bc it isn't even 1 point yet instead of showing as a 80.0 or 95.0 or 100.0 does that make sense? It's frustrating
So what I did is download it for excel, then I opened it in google sheets to use it there :) that way I can access it from anywhere.
But how would this create a transcript? The summery?

It depends on your state. Kids do need a transcript of high school to get into college.
Every state has different rules about what records you must keep so you'll want to check with the Board of Education in your state to find out what records you're required to keep. And yes, the other comment was correct as well. Your child will need a transcript to get into college. I hope that helps!

Im from Uk and dont know how to use the corses section please help. How do i grade work by %
You label the things that you’re going to grade at the top column like: tests, quizzes, etc. Once you have some grades for those categories, you enter them into the fields and then go and designate percentages at the very top. If you designate percentages before you have any grades typed in, the formula won’t work.

It takes a bit of learning in the beginning but the creator of it includes instructions that are helpful.
