    My kids love workbooks! We started out using an online program and I quickly saw that it wasn't going to work. So we switched and started using the workbooks from School Zone, which are also very inexpensive. I like them but I might check out the Evan Moor books, you have me intrigued!

    Thanks for being KIND and AUTHENTIC about some families wanting to 'try Homeschooling' vs those families who might want to return to Public in the future. I have been following you from the beginning and am now trying Homeschooling with it being hard to transition but LOVE your 'bridge the gap' videos and insight.

    Hey I am starting to love the simplicity and straight forward approach Evan Moor offers. I was hesitant at first comparing it to a lot of other curriculums out there but your video makes it more clear that it's doable. Do you have a daily schedule video somewhere? I would love to see how you incorporate all this in your daily routine. I have a 4th and 2nd grader I am planning our first year of homeschool. Also- I am not on any kind of budget and wondering if there was another one you highly recommend that is straight the point and basic that's similar to these workbooks?

    Thank you so much for your videos! They have helped me so much in this new homeschooling journey! We are new to homeschooling and I pulled my kids out of public school just after winter break. Virtual school was just not working for us! I am primarily using Evan Moor and Spectrum books and they are wonderful! I did not want to spend so much money. My 3rd and 5th graders love these books and the lessons. We are also loving Evan Moor history pocket books... so fun!! I hope to re-enroll them next year if school opens but for now we are happy homeschoolers.

    That workbook review was so helpful! And if YOU approve & like them, then I trust they really are worth using! It looks like the best thing about the Evan Moor workbooks is that they are not overwhelming for the parent or the child. Also is a good way to give your child some independent work, & get a break from all that "mama time." 😉 I have looked at some overly complicated writing curriculums, and for shorter term homeschooling it doesn't interest me, so I would love to hear how you used the workbook for writing. Thanks for the vlog today!

    • @aplacetonest

      That's such a nice compliment! Yes, writing is so hard to find a good fit for and it's such an abstract thing to teach. I plan to make the writing video as soon as I can. Do you feel that using Evan Moor exclusively for Language Arts could be cumbersome? I have a 2nd-grader that is using TGTB Level 2, and every day he says "let's just get it over with." I know that a lot of kids don't like LA (esp writing) because it is pretty dry. I'm really loving what I see with Evan Moor. Seems straight, to-the-point, no fluff/frill, but still engaging enough to be effective. Thanks for this video review!

    • @aplacetonest

    I am wanting to homeschool my first grader. I am so nervous I will mess her up . I’m college educated. But am I really ment for this ? Any ways . Could I SOLELY teach with these ? Or would I need more then this . I am wanting to teach them our homesteading and cooking and finances . As I invest .

    • @aplacetonest
      @aplacetonest  3 роки тому +2

      First of all, don't worry. I'm sure you won't mess her up. :) Yes, for some of these I think you can use them long-term. We use the spelling and vocabulary workbooks to fulfill those two subjects. The reading workbooks are more for comprehension and review but not for teaching anyone to read so if you're needing a program for that, I would highly recommend All About Reading. I have several videos about that in my homeschooling playlist. The Skill Sharpeners workbooks for science and grammar could be used for early elementary but you might need something more in-depth in the higher grades. I would recommend getting the book, "Home Learning Year-by-Year." It gives you a framework of what kids typically learn in each grade. It's really helpful when you're first starting out as long as you don't take it as 100% law-and-gospel. I hope that helps. :)

  • @rebeccaaxsom100

    One question I have is if there is a lot of content in these (particularly the reading and science) that would be offensive to Christians? I know they’re secular so that’s why I’m curious. I just don’t like to have to filter through every last page my child reads, but I’m intrigued by how simple these seem to be to use! What’s your opinion on this?

    • @aplacetonest

      I worry about that, too but so far I haven't seen anything regarding "the big bang" or evolution. That's not to say it isn't there but I've looked and haven't come across it yet.

    • @aplacetonest
      @aplacetonest  3 роки тому

      I'm not sure what your budget is but if you can afford All About Reading, I think it's the best reading program there is. Plus, it holds a really high re-sell value so you can always sell it when you're done with it. I'm not much help with math because we struggled to find a math program that we liked until my daughter started Teaching Textbooks. I love their math program but it doesn't start until 2nd/3rd grade. For spelling and science I would keep it very easy, probably with books from Evan Moor. I really love "Building Spelling Skills" and "Skill Sharpeners Science." You can't go wrong with any of the Evan Moor books!
