@Caspar Smith They're easy to rebuild if you need them, and generally you'll want them to make shapes at a bigger scale anyway, so there's no real point to keep them after you've reached the higher tiers. If you ever need to rebuild them it should be quick and easy since now you should have templates with the faster machines in mind.

To produce a full belts of a 4 layer shape, with paint on all quadrants, you need 16 paint lanes running full tilt plus the 4 shapes that you are painting. That means that you need a total of 20 lanes for each full belt lane that you want to produce. That's absolutely atrocious. To produce the same amount of shape using cutting and merging, I would have needed only 4 lanes of paint and the 4 shapes. That means that a 4 painter uses 3/5 more paint than what we were doing until level 20. If one of those color happens to be white, then you end up having to raid an entire quadrant of the map just to produce enough paint. Its insane. The last machine that I built a total of 36 lanes. It was a total nightmare to build. I went back to cutting for the next one.
That looks a lot like how factorio plays, except it's just the design element, which happens to be my favorite part. Which means given the number of hours I have in factorio.... I should not try this game, or all my time would be gone.

4 shapes * 8 colors = 32 combinations for a quarter of a layer a quarter could also be empty. so add one. 33 combinations each quarter can be independently picked. 33 ^ 4 = 1185921 different shapes per layer 4 layers means 16 slots for a quarter to fill. 33 ^ 16 = 1.9779852e+24
"it shouldnt matter what side this goes in on" if only that was true. there is a glitch where if you put it through the left the small square becomes a normal square. you got lucky. it took me way to long to figure out why it wasnt working
You'll love the next version. You'll be able to hook a sensor up to determine the next shape which will let you automate your build everything machine (that's going to be my goal which is why I stopped playing it until that update)

It was the very beggining of the wires update and he also put a "?" at the end of his idea for that! Thats why i said its propably not going to be implemented into the game.
I believe you can change the long lines of stuff to tunnels and that will really help with the frames. You wouldn't have visible moving objects all over the place.
Due to the wires update, you can now configure a "make anything machine" to, well, make anything much easier! You can now press a few buttons and force the correct shape and paint through to make any shape!
I was working on one. However cause of belt speeds not being what they actually say(bug) it doesn't work as intended. It's simple just get the 3 shapes onto 4 lanes each then paint 3 of the 4 for every color and split them into quarters. Then you just need a machine for merging. That was when I noticed the big and put my project one hold
I don't think you broke the game. Your machine probably died for the same reason mine did - You stored an intermediate product, and ran out of storage for it. Those storage containers? They only hold 5000 shapes. If there's any imbalance in what's being made, they'll eventually stall your machine to a complete halt. I had to remove all of my storage to fix everything. And honestly, I don't even know why they let you store things, especially when the storage cap is so low? Like, what's the point? I can just extract things at maximum speed. You'd need a different challenge than "deliver all of these things as fast as possible" for it to make any sense to use.

I didn't think it was possible to drop frames on such a simple looking game, but you did it. Although I'm not sure how much of your cpu is dedicated to rendering videos/uploading/other projects at the time of your recording.
it's JavaScript based and runs in a browser, so the options available for optimizing performance are pretty limited - I don't think it's possible to make the game multithreaded as it's currently implemented, for instance.
@@LoreleiBlaine Hopefully, they end up remaking the game with something more robust, like C++ or C#. It shouldn't be too hard, considering the game isn't all that complex, but it would do wonders for performance, especially at the rates the game is approaching simulating at.

That's not saying it isn't work, but it's not like we are taking an in depth physics engine and remaking it from scratch in a new language. And guess what, that gets done all the time too. Additionally, he doesn't even need to rework everything from scratch to get better performance. He can use c/c++/c# modules to carry the load in the more intensive processes in the game while still maintaining the base overall js structure. Platform support on the c languages isn't even that bad. Cross platform libraries already exist, and his code, as you said yourself, is already open source, so technically, any c source is already cross platform. Not to mention this is something aspiring devs should learn to deal with anyways, and as far as im aware, the only two places the game is currently available is on steam and a demo in web browser. Doesn't sound like cross platform will be an issue to me. Besides, looking at the game as it is currently, most of the pitfalls associated with cross platform code don't seem to exist. He's not making use of any file structures or OS specific features/featurettes or hardware. The code base isn't overly complex, it doesn't really interface with any other programs, etc. This is the best case scenario for reworking code. In short, he can get a lot of benefit for fairly minimal work, and it isn't particularly difficult to do in his case. It's basically the perfect example for when you might want to do this sort of thing to begin with, and is also a useful skill to learn.
The dev is planning in adding wires and logic, like programmable extractors and shape filters. I would love to see something like an horizontal cutter, or an splitter (breaks any shape in quarters) and more colors
When I first see your video of MakeEverythingMachine, I was amazed and learnt how to make very efficient production line with tiny space. Now I see the Ultimate Upgrade Machine, I find that my machine is more compact than yours. This makes me feel very happy lol
The reason it was stopping was because it was too efficient at some points and couldn’t give an out put at specific machines because it would output into another machine like the triple rotation

The devs could add a late game coding system... So you can add computer logic to your game, one use I could think of would be a storage order system so you can stock pile shapes untill you need them super late game

If you run them all into trash cans, you can easily build enough stuff to bring a computer to a crawl. Otherwise, you are limited to 16 full belt lines into the hub. So having 50 would just rotate between what 16 of the 50 are running.
Did you luck out and get it right first time, or did you run into the situation where the stacker "flattens" the shape down to one layer? (Solution is to swap the stacker's inputs)
Maybe you really should make a machine that makes everything. Let's see... There are 5 basic shapes (circle, square, star, windmill and empty). That makes 5^4 different combinations, but each one can be colored in 8 different colors (red, green, blue, yellow, magenta, cyan, white, gray, except for empty). So that's (4*8 + 1)^4 different combinations for one layer. There are 3 layers. So that's ((4*8 + 1)^4) ^ 3 = (4*8 + 1)^12 different combinations. But luckily all empty is invalid, so we can subtract 1. We can not subtract layer 2 being empty though. Sad. In total that makes 1185920 different possible shapes. That said, making each one by hand in a dedicated machine seems like a total whackjob. So it has to be done by sharing the same machines and feeding different items. One idea would be to color all the complete shapes in all the colors available and then just merge them all into the same machine to make all color combinations with that shape. or suchlike. I have no idea. That's just whack.
This game is a lot of fun but desperately needs optimization. Trying to build machines that will fill a belt with the output product shouldn't require wallowing in HORRIBLE frame rates. I even destroyed everything pre-endgame since it seemed useless once you're on Tier 19+ and have all your speed upgrades, but it didn't help. Looking at any screen-filling builds will drop me into the single digits.

It's not a glitch, it's a deliberate puzzle that used to have a glitch before the game was updated to remove it. It should be fine now, I believe.

This game is a lot of fun but desperately needs optimization. Trying to build machines that will fill a belt with the output product shouldn't require wallowing in HORRIBLE frame rates. I even destroyed everything pre-endgame since it seemed useless once you're on Tier 19+ and have all your speed upgrades, but it didn't help. Looking at any screen-filling builds will drop me into the single digits.
Just go play factorio it's better
