- Ogham is an ancient form of writing. It is an alphabet using lines and cuts in the stone. Ogham stones can be found throughout Ireland and there are a reported 400 stones covering the length and breath of the land.
Knickeen Ogham Stone is situated in the beautiful Glen of Imaal in County Wicklow. This stone has in its time been referred to as a long stone, a standing stone, and an Ogham Stone. It has been dated to around 400-550AD with Ogham writing on the North Eastwards facing corner.
Ogham is often called Celtic Tree alphabet and some of the markings refer to Irish trees. There are four listed Ogham stones in County Wicklow and I am very lucky to have two on my doorstep.

Greetings from Ireland! Welcome to my channel, that is dedicated to the history and culture of Ireland. This is not set out to be a history lesson, but a ramble through some stories you might find interesting about Ireland from an Irishman! Ireland has so many connections throughout the world from the emigration from this country over so many centuries, but those with Irish blood in their families always have a yearning to know more about thier "old country", this is my attempt to bring some of the history and culture they left behind. So if you fancy some tales about horsemen and highwaymen, banshee's and fairies, soldiers and rebels, legends and folklore, saints and scholars, please like and subscribe, I post once per month. Thank you for watching. Ronan.

👍Nice work!
I do love these ones about the stones, I just picture in my head the people of the time, grafting hard as hell to get them erected just perfect, Again thanks my brother from another mother for another quality vlog.
As always, thank you!
I remember watching Time team years ago and they were excavating a some old Roman town and found a plaque/board with a Latin menu of sorts for lengths/cuts of leather and down the side were Ogham markings and they figured it was a menu/list written in both languages as the Irish are known to have been trading with the Romans their leather and Beef for wine and other luxury goods.
Fantastic, thank you!
Brilliant
Thanks for the compliment

Early Coding , the Standing Stone with Ogham Script, Deelish, Aghabullogue Co. Cork found in 1826 now in British Museum, London. The Museum in Ireland should invite the British Museum, London to return it as in 2026 it will be the 200 th. anniversary since it was found. Thank you.
Thanks for the input, much appreciated.
The blood of Jesus can make monks drunk and forget how to write in Latin.
