The hybrid between castle and manor house was the Fortified or Strong House..
The Tudors were determined to conquer Ireland, they "planted" English families throughout Ireland in the hope of colonizing new lands for England. The fortified or strong house was an important part of showing status with comfort , yet having the strong walls of a castle for defence from the Irish natives. This video examines two such houses; Rathfarnham just inside the pale, which does not have any documented attack and Castle McKinnegan, which lay outside the pale and was constantly under attack over the centuries.

Welcome to my channel, that is dedicated to the history and culture of Ireland.This is not set out to be a history lesson, but a ramble through some stories you might find interesting about Ireland. Ireland has so many connections throughout the world from the emigration from this country over so many centuries, but those with Irish blood in their families always have a yearning to know more about their "old country", this is my attempt to bring some of the history and culture they left behind. So if you fancy some tales about horsemen and highwaymen, banshee's and fairies, soldiers and rebels, legends and folklore, saints and scholars, please like and subscribe. Thank you for watching. The Annals of Ulster announced the arrival of the Viking Chieftain , known as Turgesius and Thorgest arrived at the head of a huge Viking fleet in 837. He would come to dominate large areas of Ireland with his ferocious Viking forces but would be ultimately captured by the Irish. Sadly, there is little known about this warrior except for fleeting entries to some of the annals and supported by m...

It was a lost Viking legend for almost 1200 years but in the late 2000’s a determined team of historians and archaeologists found the fortified Viking settlement of “Linn Duachaill”, using modern equipment. They finally solved the location of this ancient Viking settlement in the village of Annagassan, Co.Louth, after searches had taken place as far back as 1750. One of the historians that foun...
The Secret of Crossed Legged Medieval Knights

There are over 450 effigies of the tombs of Medieval Knights throughout Ireland and Britain. Local guides in the Churches where they lie will tell you that this marks the tomb of a Templar Knight or that of a Crusader. But is this true or just a legend? This video visits this subject by visiting some of the locations of these Knights in Ireland, but ultimately it seems the mystery will remain b...

Some historians describe the period of the late 1200’s as the “Gaelic revival” ( not to be confused with the Celtic revival of the late 1800’s), where the Irish clans began to push back against the Anglo-Norman settlers with devastating raids. It is a story often repeated in history, a mighty military force that sweeps all before it, finds holding the ground they've won the real battle as they ...

Effigy Insights into Anglo-Norman Armour

Firstly, Merry Christmas to you all! Great detail has been preserved in the knightly stone effigies of Ireland. In this video I examine some of the effigies in the South East of Ireland, these would have been of the rich and powerful who could have afforded these expensive monuments, the lowly foot soldier wearing "soft" armour would have never had a look in! What a great video to come across! I was wishing that when you showed the room that you said had a guard room in it, that I would get to see what that looked like. Interesting to think of living in such a place with guards all around. I would always feel like I am out in public, so it would be cool to learn about how they concealed the presence of so many men while living in peace and privacy.

      Thanks for the compliment and input. It is hard to put everything into a video but the house/ castle itself has been "modernised" many times and the "guard room" has no military type presence now. The second house though was in true bandit country and saw plenty of action!

    Strictly speaking, did the Irish then have "civilization" at the time? i.e. did they live in significant towns and cities? I can see it might be argued that they saved a particular part of Western Christian culture, but the hub of material civilization always remained elsewhere, surely?

    • @primalireland-histcult
      @primalireland-histcult 20 днів тому

      Hi thanks for your input. No Ireland didn't have cities or towns at this time,( it would be the Vikings of the 800's that would create them), so the monasteries were the closest thing to anything urban, "civilization" in the context of this video refers to learning and the copying of various works of Latin and Greek by Irish monks.

    My dad was an OConnor, mum a Conroy … O Dhia gach an cabhair” the OConnor family crest motto is … We descendents of the ANCIENT Gaels of Irish/British/Cornish/Manx/Welsh were genetically identical…our islands know truth, contain the historical secrets of humanity’s most ancient, most gloriously dynamic culture that was the true birthplace of civilisation …. “Far westward lies an isle of ancient fame, By nature blessed, and Scotia is her name: An island rich - exhaustless is her store Of veiny silver and golden ore: Her verdant fields with milk and honey flow, Her woolly fleeces vie with virgin snow, Her waving furrows float with verdant corn, And Arms and Arts her envied sons adorn” ‘In the present volume, several novel ideas that the reader should be aware of are presented. The first and most important argument concerns the West to East migration of the elements of civilization. This theory rests upon the understanding that there were, in prehistoric times, highly developed civilizations situated in the Western hemisphere. These civilizations were brought to an abrupt end approximately 13,000 years BC, by terrestrial upheavals of an unimaginable scale. The gnosis that had been accumulated by the advanced inhabitants of these hoary civilizations originated on the landmasses known today as Ireland, England, Scotland, and Wales. These countries were once part of Atlantis or, more specifically, of the great continent of Appalachia. From these locations the gnosis was eventually carried Eastward across lost land bridges into Europe and Asia.’ “The Irish Origins of Civilization, Volume One: The Servants of Truth: Druidic Traditions & Influence Explored” by Michael Tsarion… Tsarion is on yt,but he states that most of his research was influenced and inspired by the books of Conor MacDari (pen name of John Geran) there is a reason why all his books of the true historical Ireland have been suppressed, specifically one that is called : “IRISH WISDOM PRESERVED IN BIBLE AND PYRAMIDS From Hyksos” however he has other books that exposed how the bible was corrupted and co-opted by antichrist zioJews , Rome and English heretics in order to destroy the true Christianity that the monks of ancient Ireland in the first century had preserved and spread throughout the world, but has been systematically destroyed…. Be not dismayed, my soldiers, because my son Donough is avenging our wrongs in Leinster; he will return victorious, and in the glory of his conquests you shall share. On your valour rest the hopes of your country to-day; and what surer grounds can they rest upon? Oppression now attempts to bend you down to servility; will you not burst its chains, and rise to the independence of Irish freemen? Your cause is one approved by Heaven; you seek not the oppression of others; you fight for your country and your sacred altars. It is a cause that claims a heavenly protection. In this day’s battle, the interposition of that God who can give victory will be signally manifested in your favour. Let every heart, then, be the throne of confidence and courage. You know that the Danes are strangers to religion and humanity; they are inflamed with the desire of violating the fairest daughters of this land of beauty, and enriching themselves with the spoils of sacrilege and plunder. The barbarians have impiously fixed, for their struggle to enslave us, upon the very day on which the Redeemer of the world was crucified; victory they shall not have. From such brave soldiers as you they can never wrest it; for you fight in defence of honour, liberty, and religion―in defence of the sacred temples of the Deity, and of your sisters, wives, and daughters. Such a holy cause must be the cause of God, who will deliver your enemies, this day, into your hands. Onward, then, for your country and your sacred altars!

From The Irish Times,March 21,2020.."Some archaeologists have suggested that Agricola established a bridgehead at Drumanagh, an Iron Age promontory fort that juts into the Irish Sea near Rush, some 20km north of Dublin. The notion that Drumanagh was, at the very least, some form of Roman trading depot was boosted by the discovery of Roman coins, metalwork and tableware at the fort, including fragments of amphorae (pottery) from Pomponius Mela’s homeland in Baetica."
