Klipschrf35 my problem with a lot of the cleans in Core is that they sound really cheesy and overly dramatic to me. I'm also not a big fan of the "choppy" feel of metalcore, i prefer flowing rythms and melodies, which is probably why i like some melodic metalcore bands like Breakdown of Sanity or August Burns Red
And that's plenty cool too, what's your takin on the harder heavier guys in the metalcore scene then like Devil Wears Prada and As I lay Dying? For me I find these artists we both just mentioned by and large too heavy (from the songs I've heard) unless it's absolutely GO time. Time to lift weights or handle a busy kitchen rush, but not for easy prep work/chilling out. A bit of reference, my whole life I've been into classic rock, hard rock, trance, pop punk, punk and ONLY just started to appreciate the heavier flavors... And why the hell would new genres have to be a try at outdoing another one? It's just about exploring different sounds, jeez. Music isn't a competition.
That was the point of Metal to begin with. Metal has always been a rebellion against mainstream music to a degree. Metal genres have always tried to outdo each other in the spirit of metal. To people who created new genres, the previous became too "mainstream" so they made that sound heavier. And you shit on genres for doing that, but by bands creating new sounds and inventing progressively heavier genres, they're breaking the barriers of what metal can be and are in turn exploring different sounds. That's why we have slam, black metal or grindcore imo. Because those 3 genres are that fucking heavy to where they explore territories that push whether or not it's music or just noise, and I say that as a compliment. Anyone who is that closed minded to why metal needs to be "heavier" or the point of new genres is a gatekeeper who is missing the entire point of metal and why it exists

"The pit is starting wherever he is and I don't give a fuck blahblah" - That makes you sound like one of those metalcore/deathcore elitists who try to act tough.
Metal isnt a competition/a matter of who can out-do eachother. Its just a matter of preference between people. I like Metalcore, I like Deathcore, I do enjoy death meth and black metal but just not as much as other subgenres and I have my reasons for liking them. Just as you have your reasons for liking Death Metal and Black Metal.

What annoys me about your video is that you assume that the only point of extreme metal is to outdo and be more extreme but never took into consideration the completely different styles of music that deathcore and death metal are. I don't listen to metal only because its brutal and extreme but because i genuinely love the music. And thats what your missing here : THE MUSIC. The most important part of a music genre and you overlook it for something much more trivial like themes and brutality. Deathcore just has completely different musical and stylistic aspects. I love both death metal and deathcore equally and i listen to them both because they are so musically different. I think the problem is that you listened to only 3 bands and relatively generic ones at that. Try Rings Of Saturn, Black Tongue or The Contortionist
Out of Rings of Saturn, Black Tongue and The Contortionist, I have to say The Contortionist are the best. Their first album is well worth listening to if you want some deathcore that's actually interesting. I used to like Ovid's Withering but the main songwriter turning out to be a weirdo that creeped on teenage girls and the other band members' significant others makes it really hard for me to appreciate them anymore. Shadow of the Collossus are a great deathcore band that I'd recommend wholeheartedly, and Lorelei who are fairly similar to Ovid's Withering.
the thing is, when i listen to deathcore, reall the only thing there is to love about it is the extremety, there mostly isn't too much melody, complex rythms, good lyrics or anything else to catch my ear. So at least for me deathcore can only possibly deliver in terms of being brutal, and if i want music that's simply brutal, i go listen to brutal death metal or deathgrind. but maybe you could name some things you enjoy in deathcore apart from the brutality and maybe give some examples of bands? i'd genuinely appreciate it! :)
+Smartytyp May I ask you what you think about Bring Me the Horizon's (please ignore the band's current stage) only deathcore album Count Your Blessings? Sorry if it sounds stupid from me or something, you just seem like someone who is into the genre and knows something about it, so I'd like to know your opinion. If you do not want to listen to the whole album, just check songs "Pray for Plagues", (I Used to Make Out With) Medusa and the last one, Off the Heezay. Once again, sorry if it sounds somehow stupid or something.
Smartytyp i never considered the Contortionist to be Deathcore, but i guess they could be, i like Born of Osiris and really like Within the Ruins newest album. Rings of Saturn i don't really care for, they seem to try so hard to play fast and brutal, but kinda lose structure and complexity in the process, to the point where i don't really enjoy listening to them. Nevertheless i vastly prefer Tech Death if i want speed, brutality and complexity combined. Listen to songs like Dismantle the Dictator by Revocation, a Poem about an Old Prison Man by Decapitated, My Possessor by Alustrium or Bodiless Sleeper by Spawn of Possession if you want some examples of great Technical Death Metal. All in all i wouldn't deny that there are very great Deathcore bands, but i still think every aspect of it can be and has been done better in subgenres that have existed prior to it.
@@nordicshredder4128 true and compared to modern vocalists he's not in the same realm but still an og who helped build the genre plus he was also a really good person

We metal heads should stand as one to remove this cringey ass death core, it makes non metal heads look at metal like a joke 😂 they literally sound like dying screeching pigs
Better? Faster? DARKER? You sir, should check out Infant Annihilator. (Hope I'm not the 100th person that recommends them) Can't think of a band that tops them in the Deathcore genre. And Ill certainly wont give 10 bands to recommend like some other people do.
IA tries WAYYYY too hard to be edgy. Also, their drummer could never actually play their songs. Please don't tell me to watch the playthrough, because what you're actually hearing is the studio drums, and not his actual kit, nor even a live professional recording. It's completely faked. Especially their newest release. It's completely over the top ridiculous. The lyrics too... holy balls. Talk about going above and beyond to try and be edgy. Can't stand that band. There are many good deathcore bands that can actually play their music. I have no respect for IA.
They are just a side-project from some guys in black tongue (which is more of a serious band). I'm not gonna say anything about the drums because I dont know jack shit about drums. But however, I actually like the fact that they try "too" hard (the "story" in the TPLOP about christianity and that shit), and I don't really care IF they can't play their songs live, they never perform under the name IA anyway. They are indeed just some sort of gimmick, BUT their shit is heavy and brutal. But to each their own I guess ;).
SuomiPerkele They don't have a real drummer. They were programmed, possibly on Superior Drummer. They have a dude who claims to be their drummer, but he's not that great, even when he filled in for bands who are MUCH more simple than IA. He can't play that shit.
I'm not trying to attack your musical tastes or anything but I've always seen Infant Annihilator as a joke. I just always thought they were so bad it was actually funny.
Carnifex is pretty awesome. I saw them live and made sure to jump in the pit when they played Die Without Hope. Most violent pit I've ever been a part of, but it was sick.
bands like Whitechapel, Suicide Silence, and Chelsea Grin are the bands that transitioned me in high school to bands like Death, Cannibal Corpse, etc and are also the reason I'm still alive and making music. The point of Deathcore is to reach the young crowd. so, there you go:)
I listen to mostly black metal but I used to love deathcore. Most notably Through the eyes of the Dead and Carnifex. The reason It appealed to me was the combination of technical playing, monstrous vocals and the biggest thing is the variety. You can get riffs, chugs, breakdowns, monster vocals and it not be as abrasive as death metal. Malice by Through the eyes of the Dead is still a masterpiece deathcore album in my eyes.
UndeadCock breakdowns have existed long before the core scene started my friend, just look at domination from Pantera or raining blood from Slayer, there are countless examples I could name more but I just wanted to inform you fellow metalhead

I know that Nu-Metal gets a of shit from metal elitists , so i was wondering whats ur opinion on it. And do you think hip-hop and metal can go along with each other?
Honestly I've never really listened to Nu metal enough to make a judgment call either way. As for metal and hip-hop coming together I think it's pretty weird but I'll give it to the artists who can be creative enough 2 bring genres of music together like that. I'm glad you like my videos though!
Blackmetal Werewolf Yeah , i mean im a big thrash/death/black metal fan , but for some reason Nu-Metal is what gets me going. The cereal analogy was the best part of the video and if you agree or not (with what he said) you cant deny thatcereal analogy was great. ( as in very funny)
Instrumentally Deathmetal is generally much more brutal and resonating while vocally Deathcore is so much more intense. As a screamer I can say there is no comparison between replicating something like Whitechapel and Chelsea Grin versus a well known Deathmetal band like Cannibal Corpse.
reason a lot of people like deathcore is because of the grooves heavy down tuned and brutal breakdowns. And for some a lot of death metal bands seem generic and no meaning in lyrics. But it's all about preference and also plzz stop judging things based on few things listen to bands like nocturnal bloodlust and old bring me the horizon where they go so extreme and even have guitar solos. But hey at least this was not to bad of a video and this mainly my opinion though not fact.

Black Magick Bats indeed glad you didn't attack me. I listen to all music, and hate it when someone calls me emo for like suicide silence. But yet I listen to everything except country and mainstream pop XD
I don't think that deathcore is a less extrem version of death metal but much rather its own subgenre. Thrash got heavier in its style of playing the instruments and as you said the imagery of lyrics and for example the album covers, while deathcore is basically an extremer version of metalcore including elements of death metal. I think comparing deathcore with death metal is like comparing metalcore to heavy metal...it's just different in the way the instruments are played and the lyrics are composed (which are secondary anyway...for me at least). Just compare for example Thy art is murder to cannibal corpse. I don't prefer one over the other but for me it's a completely different experience. But that's just my opinion. Sorry if my english is not that great, I'm german. Great video and interesting topic btw :D
That's what most people that seem to have a hate boner for "core" do. It's no different from someone saying "modern metal sucks" when the only band they've listened to in the 21st century is Disturbed.
If you don't like anything at all about metalcore than you're not going to like deathcore, period. Doesn't matter if every single cell in your entire body is devoted to death metal. If you hate metalcore then obviously you're not going to like deathcore. It doesn't really require much more explanation than that.
I listen to more deathcore than metalcore. Please explain what's happening here. Or is that just something you came up with to have an excuse to comment? Oh wait, I think it's just subjective.
In terms of the "core" genres I listen almost exclusively to Deathcore and virtually no Metalcore, yet there are aspects of Deathcore which are characterized by its undeniable relationship to Metalcore. For example, the inclusion of breakdowns and the presence of multiple tempo changes and time signatures throughout a song, drop tuning, and a focus on rhythmic riffing as opposed to an emphasis on melody (in regard to the instrumentation of the guitar/bass) are all elements which have obviously been defining in Deathcore's development as a subgenre of Metalcore. So as I was saying *in response to the video*, there is a reason for Deathcore to exist despite both Metalcore and Death Metal being their own things because it blends together aspects of the two which some, such as myself, may enjoy of the two, while forgoing other elements which said listener may not enjoy. You might say you hate Metalcore completely, but without these defining elements, Deathcore simply would not exist. It's like saying you love vanilla spongecake but that you hate vanilla. Whether or not you like vanilla doesn't change the fact that it's baked into the cake.

I try to keep an open mind about most styles of metal. I'll listen to pretty much anything so long as something about it grabs my attention, but similarly, I will stop listening to it if something negatively grabs my attention. i like thrash, death, melodic death, blackened death, black (with decent production i.e. Gorgoroth), heavy, groove, core, djent, whatever. If its got merit, I'll give a listen. There are good and bad bands in every subgenre. I personally am pretty selective with the deathcore i listen to, but to me, the vocalist is the most important part. Deathcore low growls are actually some of my favorite metal covals. Thy Art Is Murder and Whitechapel definitely do it for me. Suicide Silence and the like, not so much. I also found a band called Black Tongue. Insanely heavy in every respect (besides perhaps speed). Definitely worth checking out. Metalcore usually isn't my thing for one reason. Autotune. Half of the fuckers can't sing, so they pretend to, with exceptions being bands like Killswitch Engage and Bury Tomorrow. If they have singing chops, then I'm interested. For the same reason as metalcore, I don't like Periphery. The cleans are too manufactured for me. But I love Animals As Leaders and Meshuggah to death. I like the concept of Black metal, but I hate the production. I can't blast Bathory in my car and get pumped up when the band sounds like it was recorded underwater. I need the quality to be there or the message is lost on me. Thats why I like Gorgoroth, Nergal, some later Mayhem, and blackened death metal like Behemoth and Belphegor. Those guys do it right. My point is that it really doesn't come down to a genre. Look hard enough, and you will find excellent musicians with awesome talent. Some genres just have more shit to wade through than others.
I just want to say you are one of my favorite youtuber. I love deathcore because it has blast beats, Palm muting and lots of break downs. That's what I find amazing in metal, but if you want the metal to be extreme and heavy, that's fine.
Just listen to Misery Index (The old Retaliate for more raw grind music style or the new The Killing Gods for more of a death metal type) and do this video again :)
DecrepitOrigin888 One of the best bands on the planet! Even the production is awesome, I don't know how they do it but every song feels like my speakers explode from pure awesomeness!
@@kbzzanother thing about cord genres I can't stand is the people that listen to it and enjoy it... I don't want to go listen to that band or song I Don't like core bands.... I've already heard that band to begin with and song.... I still don't like it.
The point of deathcore? The same as any other genre of metal, to play it loudly in your car or room, have fun, find some bands you like to go see live, and fucking mosh. Suicide Silence, Whitechapel & Carnifex are bigger names because they were some of the earlier Deathcore bands that got popular fast. I almost wouldn't consider Carnifex Deathcore at this point, they're reaaaally pushing to be Death Metal. Death Metal isn't too extreme for most Deathcore fans, at least not in my opinion, it's just a different style man. Try Thy Art is Murder's "The Adversary" or Ingested's "The Surreption", that's some pretty gnarly Deathcore. Don't knock ALL Deathcore bands say it's all "Nesquik", just because you don't like it as much as you like death or thrash metal. There are soooo many shitty thrash and death metal bands, and there are some really good deathcore bands that aren't generic. I still love thrash and death metal, as well as deathcore, I'm just one of those weirdos that loves all types of metal, so maybe this just doesn't make sense to you. Not saying you're wrong, it's your opinion, I just hope you can find a couple Deathcore bands you like, as well as Metalcore. I swear on my future grave they're out there lol.
People, stop hating on the poor guy. He said he THOUGHT grindcore was just another name for metalcore. He doesn't think that anymore. Get your facts straight before leaving hate comments.
Sup man, I just discovered your videos and you really seem like a cool dude, I will keep watching some more of your videos. Regarding to the topic of this particular video: I do see the point to Deathcore. I listen to almost every subgenre of Metal, my favorites being Groove and Death metal. It's funny becouse actually my favorite bands do not play those genres (Gojira, Slipknot, Killswitch Engage), and my least favorites being Black Metal and Deathcore. I don't like these last two becouse of their simplicity. I find the composition of most songs that fall into this category are just lacking in terms of complexicity, rythm and melody, which is often what I look for when listening to metal. I see Deathcore differently than you tho, I do appreciate the style and I do think it deserves a spot in the Metal universe, why? becouse it's just different, not worse. I don't see metal as a competition, I see Metal as a world of different colors of extreme. For example saying that Black Metal is a step forward from Death Metal is nonense to me becouse those two genres are after different things, and you cans say that for any other Metal subgenres, they're just after different things. Picture it like this: A rocket is not better than a Car. If you need to go to work and you need to get there fast you can pick on of many ways to ge there, you would thin ''duh, a rocket is better becouse it's faster'' but it just isnt practical, a car can do the job a million times better and not destroy the whole city doing it like a rocket would. Hope my opinion is of some value to anyone. Keep up the good work, man!
I'm going to just be honest, and feel free to correct me if I misunderstood your point, but since when was it every band's goal to be more extreme than the last? If my band wants to play music that we enjoy but it's not as brutal as another's, does that mean we have our priorities wrong? How is that any different from the dreaded "mainstream appeal" metal elitists talk so much about? In addition, if deathcore doesn't have a point because it's not as extreme as death metal, then why are bands still making thrash metal, traditional heavy metal, etc.? And why do people still care about that?

Well Deathcore is a combination of Metalcore and Death Metal. While Deathcore may not be nearly as gory as Death Metal it is in my opinion way heavier than both Metalcore and Death Metal because it combines the two. Deathcore fans (including myself) believe that Deathcore is the heaviest of the heavy especially because of Deathcore's breakdowns. The Deathcore bands that you checked out (Suicide Silence, Carnifex and Whitechapel) are extremely fast Deathcore bands and they do include breakdowns especially Suicide Silence. However MANY Deathcore bands like Black Tongue, Traitors, Chelsea Grin, Sever The King play very obnoxiously slow. I HIGHLY urge you to check them out! After checking these bands out, I guarantee that your opinion might change. Anyway good video bro, keep it up!
I agree. Personally, I find deathcore heavier just because it makes me angrier and makes me want to headbang more. However if some people death metal heavier without the metalcore influence, then ye good for them
John Kienle deathcore is NOT heavier than death metal and it certainly is not the heaviest genre/sub genre, you apprently have never heard of grindcore then lol
Whitechapel is a step down? What the actual fuck are you on? Not only do you have to appreciate the heaviness of them but the lyrical content. Whitechapel is far far above death metal. Non-debateable. I've been listening to them for over a year and can say they are one of the most extreme bands. Albeit, their new album coming out isn't nearly as heavy in terms of how the music is performed and produced but the lyrical content is still far surpassing. It's very much on par with their old albums. May I recommend listening and reading the lyrics to Diggs Road? You'll see what I'm talking about.
have you tried checking out a band called cattle decapitation? if not I highly recommend them I'm not quite sure what to classify them as musically whether it's deathcore death metal grindcore deathgrind but I happen to think they are a great band.
I think that Whitechapel is just as hard as other Death Metal bands, maybe not with just as gory lyrics, but with deep lyrics, going within the deepest dark disires of man (so deep :o). Also their newer stuff is actually more modern Death than Deathcore imo, wich I really like. You definitely need to check out the Our Endless War album, it has some nice twists within their songs.
Deathcore has by far the best vocal versatility. If you wanna talk about pushing the boundaries then deathcore definitely pushes vocals to a different level than other genres. I see you made this video 7 years ago, I'd like to see you remake this video with bands like Shadow of Intent, Lorna Shore, and Shrine of Malice.
Metal is not about getting more and more extreme with each generation. New genres aren't created necessarily in order to out-do the ones before them. It's about where it touches people, and not about how fast or brutal it is. Deathcore didn't try to be more extreme or less extreme, it just tried to combine two different metal styles and see how it goes.
When it's all broken down, it's just soundwaves and emotions captured with a microphone. Why argue as to which genre "sounds better" when it really doesn't matter as long as the artists in question get an outlet for their creativity. Same goes for people who say that "this person paints better than this person" or whatever kind of artistic undertaking you may have, it's all dependant on the one who produces the art in question. Consume the art, like it or dislike it, no other person is ever going to feel the same way you feel about that particular piece of art anyway.
what i really think deathcore metal is, is its not trying to be a step up from deathmetal but more of a bridge between metalcore and deathmetal

Absolutely love their leads and everything they do buuuut, the breakdowns man... Why??? They just ruin the music and the composition as a whole :(
What annoys me about your video is that you assume that the only point of extreme metal is to outdo and be more extreme but never took into consideration the completely different styles of music that deathcore and death metal are.
Shadow of the Collossus are a great deathcore band that I'd recommend wholeheartedly, and Lorelei who are fairly similar to Ovid's Withering.
i agree, beacause "why would i listen to death metal when i can listen to slamming brutal death metal"
the thing is, when i listen to deathcore, reall the only thing there is to love about it is the extremety, there mostly isn't too much melody, complex rythms, good lyrics or anything else to catch my ear.
"I thought Deathcore and Grindcore ect. where edgier names for Metalcore."

I listen to mostly black metal but I used to love deathcore. Most notably Through the eyes of the Dead and Carnifex. Carnifex is going black metal, and it sounds fucking good!

Disturbed is fucking awesome.

I'm aware =P

Hmmm... @ Blackmetal Wereworlf, what exactly is the difference between Death Metal and Deathcore? Im not too sure, can you please explain? Also, would an album like Bring Me The Horizon's debut album be something considered death metal, or deathcore? Thanks !
Yup...i see a MAN of culture
breakdown after breakdown is just boring

The point of deathcore? The same as any other genre of metal, to play it loudly in your car or room, have fun, find some bands you like to go see live, and fucking mosh. Suicide Silence, Whitechapel & Carnifex are bigger names because they were some of the earlier Deathcore bands that got popular fast.
If you wanna hear a good deathcore band, listen to the first EP by Job For A Cowboy.
Yeah,Early JFAC is good for death metal listener to start death core.
Is parkway drive death core or metal core. I'm referring to the older albums like deep blue and horizions.
Are you a fan of Deathspell Omega?
I'm going to just be honest, and feel free to correct me if I misunderstood your point, but since when was it every band's goal to be more extreme than the last? If my band wants to play music that we enjoy but it's not as brutal as another's, does that mean we have our priorities wrong? How is that any different from the dreaded "mainstream appeal" metal elitists talk so much about?
In addition, if deathcore doesn't have a point because it's not as extreme as death metal, then why are bands still making thrash metal, traditional heavy metal, etc.? And why do people still care about that?
I think melodic death metal is best metal genre
Inferi is best fite me (no don't please)
@@goldsrcorsource2551 Inferi is probably the sickest American Melodeath band I've ever heard. I love all their albums but damn, Divinity In War is a masterpiece.
@@nickhyland9765 And yet it's not on their spotify...
guess it doesn't matter because I bought it, but still.
WHO Cares ?
Totally agree.
I used to hate deathcore when it first blew up because of the bro culture that went along with it, but then I dug deep into it and found some bands I really liked. It's not my favorite subgenre, but it's also far from hated.
Do you play any instruments by the way?
you should check out Acrania and a band called And Hell Followed With, I'd really like to know your opinion on them. I'd also like to know your opinion on Miss May I and Bullet for my Valentine 😁😁
Hey, I love nesquik.... x(
Well Deathcore is a combination of Metalcore and Death Metal.
By the way early Thy Art Is Murder (Infinite Death) and Infant Annihilator contain the extreme goriness and speed of Death Metal.
Infant Annihilator is Technical Deathcore.
Lmao
not much to do with the video but what genre is Marilyn Manson and motionless in white
I say listen to whatever you want & not care what people think.
Exactly
Whitechapel is a step down? What the actual fuck are you on? Not only do you have to appreciate the heaviness of them but the lyrical content. Whitechapel is far far above death metal. Non-debateable. I've been listening to them for over a year and can say they are one of the most extreme bands. Albeit, their new album coming out isn't nearly as heavy in terms of how the music is performed and produced but the lyrical content is still far surpassing. It's very much on par with their old albums. May I recommend listening and reading the lyrics to Diggs Road? You'll see what I'm talking about.
Death metal is way beyond better than deathcore.
I like some Deathcore (sometimes), but as a whole... Nah!
Death Metal gives Me a feeling of testosterone more than ever!!!!!!
I would love to see a video from this guy showing his opinion about certain bands like boy eats girl :)
have you tried checking out a band called cattle decapitation? if not I highly recommend them I'm not quite sure what to classify them as musically whether it's deathcore death metal grindcore deathgrind but I happen to think they are a great band.
Dude xD.... that comparison.
We're metalheads, not ittle children xD.... Nesquit for the win, I hate cinnamon :3.
You should give a review of Infant Annihilator's upcoming album. I really, really enjoyed their first album, the singles so far are perfect.
Metal is not about getting more and more extreme with each generation. New genres aren't created necessarily in order to out-do the ones before them. It's about where it touches people, and not about how fast or brutal it is. Deathcore didn't try to be more extreme or less extreme, it just tried to combine two different metal styles and see how it goes.
the reason why we listen to death core over death metal.... one word BREAKDOWNS!!!!!
Thoughts of Vildhjarta?
