The symbolism of Batman Begins and The Dark Knight Rises is to learn from our mistakes and to do what's right. Simple: Falling, learning, and growing. That's the idea of motivation of never giving up.
This scene changed my life. I was struggling with numerous complications from a spinal cord injury. After once again finding myself in a hospital bed I saw this and the message of "I'm not afraid of dying, but I am afraid of dying in here" resonated with me. Shortly after I found the best trainer I could, got healthy, became successful again in business and ultimately met the girl of my dreams. I may never be Batman, but I aspire to be Bruce Wayne.
A simple but powerful detail to me is that he threw the rope down for others... didn't have to, didn't know what others were in there for but realized they all deserved to have their perseverance rewarded. beautiful writing.
I actually hated that part, some of those dudes were trying to rape Talia as a child. He had no idea who he was throwing the rope down to. They could have had an after credits scene where Gordon shows up with the local authorities and they agree to give all those dudes trials or something. As they are lifting them up via rope, who should come up but Joker, who tells Gordon “Funny meeting you here” LOL
@@alanpage4075 Since Bruce is a true blue character, and he had spent so long in that pit, we can assume that he knew everybody in there and there was no one at that point that he felt needed to stay.
This scene man. When the Bats came out. JUST WOW. Not enough words can describe this scene. Just chills. This scene alone made the dark knight rises the best of the trilogy.
Right! believe in yourself and you can do the impossible. You can fail a couple of times, but never give up ( I quit doesn't exist) you too can rise. :)
I love the moment right after 2:00 when the bats come flying out of that hole. It shows the end of Bruce Wayne's true inner journey of conquering his fear - the fear of bats. That moment (and music played) when he looks up and sees them flying above him is what this is all about, just like in that cave scene in _Batman Begins_. It all truly came full circle.
+Baville "Then make the climb, as the child did. Without the rope. Then *fear* will find you again." The bats fly out when he's about to make the jump, the bats are a brilliant visual touch to indicate that he's using his fear for his benefit once again, just as he did in Batman Begins when he choose his symbol. He's not necessarily overcoming that fear, but learning to use it to his advantage once again. Without this, he is not truly Batman and that's why I hold to it this is Batman's real first appearance in this film.
Its really clever what they did here. With Bruce's back broken he becomes a metaphorical child. He has to be suspended on a piece of cloth just as a fetus would be in a womb. And just like a baby trying to stand and take its first steps, Bruce makes several attempts to make the jump. Dam Nolan is a genius.
He was "reborn" as Batman once more, emerging from the trials of the Pit. It was Nolan's interpretation of the Lazarus Pit, since Ra's, in the comics, was reborn by its powers, Bruce emerged a "new man". It is all a metaphor.
I remember when I was watching this in theaters on the opening day this scene was so intense that everyone in the theater including my family and I started chanting with the prisoners and cheered when Batman made it.
THIS should have been the ending of The Dark Knight Rises, Part I. The film deserved to be in two parts, so much great stuff to stick into just one film.
the8thcovenant what would part 2 have focused on? Bruce getting back to Gotham? Joseph Gordon Levitt getting more time to become Robin? Banes authority in Gotham? More frozen lake deaths? More cat woman scenes?
RJ a better climactic fight than the police mass charging down one street to take out Bane. More focus on the “war” aspect, make it more than one battle, could also include Bruce’s return, a hint at the Joker and using the old criminals of Gotham to fight Bane’s authoritarian rule, more focus on Blake running an insurgency within Gotham, giving the GCPD better tactics than gathering into a parade and firing handguns at the rifle-equipped forces who for some reason are 99% concentrated at City Hall, giving Bane more control of Gotham and make him smarter, giving Talia a better death... We can debate something that didn’t happen and won’t happen, or we can agree that at the very least it would’ve been very possible to make a Rises Part 2 worthy of Nolan’s lofty standards.
Man The Dark Knight trilogy, truly one of the greatest Hero's journey movie of all time God Bless Christopher Nolan, Han Zimmer and The entire Cast & Crew for this.

This particular scene tells you all you need to know about this trilogy...the beginning of this trilogy when Bruce fell in the well was just a precursor in what he would face later on in his biggest challenge and not only would he not have his fathers help, but if he somehow could not beat his biggest fear, him and gotham city would fall. But the symbolism of the pit is just freaking brilliant.

Ras Al Ghul killed all the bad prisoners from Bane's time in the pit. Bane buy's the pit later and makes it his own, imprisoning people he thinks are his enemies. Very likely the pit is just now filled with people like Bruce Wayne and Doctor Pavel who opposed Bane's ideology and stood in his way. Likely good people.

Bruce fell down the pit (his home well) in Batman begins and started to fear bats, he thought becoming Batman would help him conquer his fear. In The Dark Knight he starts to feel he’s actually Batman and Bruce is his alter ego and fears the pain of loosing his loved ones because of the joker. In the Dark Knight Rises Bruce finally leaves the pit (the well he fell down) and learns that he is Batman, and that fear is something he can use, not something to be afraid of, hence the Dark Knight Rises once more.
The dark knight rises is the best movie in the batman trilogy. And this is the best scene. Deshi Deshi Basara Basara They should do a sequel to this film rather than another reboot.
This film was amazing. A lot of people say there are plot holes, but what people complain about are nit picks. This scene is fantastic, this scene is the best of the film, and this is my favorite film of the trilogy and my favorite Batman film of them all, those are all my opinions, but It is a great film. I think this film should have been nominated for Oscars, Best Picture, Director, etc. even the Actors like Christian Bale, Gary Oldman, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Anne Hathaway. It was a well made and acted film. There are moments that seem like they go fast, but I like those scenes, if they were longer they could start to drag, and nobody wants that. Over all, This is a great film. 5 out of 5 for this and the trilogy as a whole.
He couldn't climb across it and there is no point that he needed, not that he didn't need to. You're making it sound like it could've been done differntly, you're not the director that's number one. You're not in control of the movie.
Their wasn't a ladder nor any bricks for Bruce to use his hands to across over to get on that concrete stand, and where is this ladder? Because it wasn't anywhere in that scene. I'm choosing to deny this because I didn't see any bricks or a ladder Bruce could use, but their wasn't since the prisoner had already explained making the climb wasn't that easy. What I mean by my previous comment was you're not telling Christian Bale what he could've or should've done differently, than the way that scene was originally planned.
You can't climb the whole wall without jumping, clearly there is no other way to get out of that pit but to take the jump where you get to the concrete stand of another. No they shouldn't have done anything differently for the set fit, it was already done the way they had it and that's it. Yes I can be stubborn, but there's no way to climb a wall without jumping than you think.
I agree with everything you said. And the pit scenes great but there are so many other great scenes in this movie, like the very ending montage, too hard for me too pick, but the pit scene is definitely up there, maybe the best.
The way the music gets more and more stronger by the time he gets out of the pit, just wow. And the bats coming out, “DISHI BASARA” chants. No words to describe, so powerful.
I don't know why but I LOVE the moment when the prisoner guy tells Bruce "Ah, supplies for your journey, ah that's wonderful yes" and Bruce smiling always makes me smile so hard. I have no idea why Nolan would film this simple moment but I'm so glad he did.
As if this scene wasn't epic enough, the bats just HAD to fly out of their hidey-hole as if saying to the audience, "Yeah Bruce is gonna make this time." But I guess that's the point. This will always be one of my favorite scenes in this movie.
I will admit that I gave this movie too much crap when it came out because I thought it didn't live up to the Dark Knight, but I'll admit that it's still a good movie.
The Dark Knight trilogy is the best collection of superhero movies ever made better than than disney pixar of movie the Avengers. Chris Nolan took the world's greatest hero and made into a symbol of realism anyone can be batman if we enough determination and motivation, this scene linked to the Lazarus Pit, and made so real. If you think about the pit makes you strong and so young and come back from the dead, in scene shows bruce wayne overcoming his fear and learning how to become batman again so the breeze of bats becoming out of hole is a sign of overcoming just lk that doctor said 'then fear will find you again' and climbing out shows triumph
There is more to it. Bruce fianlly remembers what it means to be the Batman, what he learnt about fear in Begins in Ras'Al Ghul's training. Fear, fear of death, is the most important impulse. So far, all of his previous attempts to escape were trivial as he never put his life on the line, as he shied away from what and who he was meant to be. All of this is expressed in Bale's look (superb acting) and I agree, this scene alone is the best in all the Batman trilogy. The moment the bats fly from the rocks is also a reminder of Bruce being surrounded by bats in Begins: it's an allegory within the allegory that says that Bruce has finally reconnected with the Batman. And there he rises.
+TikTok Gaming But he would learn nothing in the process of doing so. The lesson always comes from the journey and the struggle in the midst of hopelessness.
+TikTok Gaming Oh my lord the classic argument. "Super man would just fly out." If Doomsday broke his back and Lex made him a ordinary man Clark would never find the strength to climb out of the Pit. Never. He simply doesn't have the mental strength.
This scene is peak cinema and brings the trilogy full circle. Not just with the Thomas Wayne flashback but the idea that Bruce is using fear as a weapon again. Except this time he isn't turning "fear against those that prey on the fearful" he's using fear to make himself stronger. TDKR is wildly underrated and I'm getting sick and tired of people sleeping on it.
The best scene I have seen in entire holly wood movie so far. The chores in the back ground and the escalation in the music in the right pitch are in perfect sync with the scene. Cheers to the director who made such a wonderful movie.
I love the triology ... this scene is so motivated .. we all have barman inside us who always says "rise" ... never give up .. Thnx to whole the dark knight triology team to make this masterpiece... Nolan's direction + Zimmer's music + bale's acting = a great motivational scene ... love this movie ..love barman ..
This is definitely one of the most powerful scenes in the entire trilogy. It shows Bruce conquering his fear and making the climb. It is extraordinarily brilliant how he linked this scene back to a very early scene in the first movie. Also genius how he intended the pit to be the Lazarus pit, just in a more realistic and literal sense. People are trapped there, but those that find the inner strength to make the climb emerge stronger then ever - both mentally and physically - and it shows when he was able to defeat Bane.
The idea of it being the Lazarus Pit is a huge metaphor too. Ra's legeacy lives on with it, giving him a sense of immortality. Also, Bruce is healed both mentally and emotionally, and he rises from the pit as Batman...from the dead.
I don't think you could ever find Batmans equal. I don't think anyone could make the climb. People will say that the Supes could but if you make him a normal man, break his back, break his spirit and throw him in the pit I don't think he could find the courage to make it out. The only one I can think of who MIGHT be able to is Green Arrow. But that's just me. If anyone can think of anyone else and it's legit please tell me.
Aaronstark19 if you are talking about will you guys are forgetting one key person the masters of will powers them selves any green lantern. those guys are crazy enough to do anything it takes to win/save people with or with a ring.
Christian Bale = BATMAN... I can't see anyone else playing the role as batman apart from him.. So sad that he wouldn't be in the Superman v batman movie.. :(
Haha I like how that guy is like "Oh supplies for your journey, that's wonderful" as if to say "yeah right as if you're even going to make it out of here" and then you see his face at the end and he's like "well shit..."

Legend ends. The Dark Knight Rises.
Freaking amazing...one of my favorite movie scenes ever.
Inmates: Basra, basra, deshi, deshi, basra!
Bruce: What does that mean?
Old Prisoner: Rise.
Love that. It literally means: "Rise up!"
They’re saying Deh-shay basura basura
What language is it
The dark knight rises is the best movie in the batman trilogy.
***** That jump wasn't easy make.
2:35 The doctor's reaction is priceless!
When he rises out of that pit, something in my pants rises also...don't judge me, badassery can do that to a man!
Admirable..... but mistaken.
This is why Batman is Batman. This is why he will always be, The goddamn ..... Batman
The dark knight has truly returned
I cant see anyone playing the part as batman apart from Christian Bale
+mrFalloutFan95 Luke Evans would have made a pretty bad ass Batman in my opinion :D
+Hunor Kicsi Possibly Keanu Reeves as well! :D
+mrFalloutFan95 God in Heaven yes. Christian was Batman. What a terrible choice for what will be a stupid movie.
+David Kempf Batfleck wrecked the guy in a military suit (batbale).
Still to this date, Christian Bale is still irreplaceable.
As if this scene wasn't epic enough, the bats just HAD to fly out of their hidey-hole as if saying to the audience, "Yeah Bruce is gonna make this time." But I guess that's the point. This will always be one of my favorite scenes in this movie.
Best scene of the whole trilogy !
What a powerful scene.
I will admit that I gave this movie too much crap when it came out because I thought it didn't live up to the Dark Knight, but I'll admit that it's still a good movie.
this was badass on so many levels
"Why do we fall?"
So that we can learn to pick ourselves up
Leonardo castillo no so god can get a good laugh
"because someone pushed us" Nightwing/Dick Grayson
"This is Awesome. Awesome."
Rio B. Ur awesome
I would love to try getting everyone in the football stadium to chant this
And this ladies and gentleman, is why Batman will shit on Superman anyday...
+Kelvin T Superman would just fly out of there...
+TikTok Gaming But he would learn nothing in the process of doing so. The lesson always comes from the journey and the struggle in the midst of hopelessness.
im a fan of batman as well but think again like superman has superpowers so...... u know
+Kelvin T well superman is pretty built if you think about it and has learn lessons from the pass through his struggles to fit in with the world also
+TikTok Gaming Oh my lord the classic argument.
Once more into the fray. Into the last good fight I'll ever know. To live and die on this day... To live and die on this day...
robert lockhart The Grey
So doesnt matter how deep we fall, if we honed our strength and focus..we can get out from the pit in no time.
Never give up !
I love the triology ... this scene is so motivated .. we all have barman inside us who always says "rise" ... never give up .. Thnx to whole the dark knight triology team to make this masterpiece... Nolan's direction + Zimmer's music + bale's acting = a great motivational scene ... love this movie ..love barman ..
but the real question is...can mr wayne still pick up a bloody log?
"Do you even lift, master Wayne?"
+Antidisestablishmentarianist No, he does bloody push ups
traven64 If he couldn't then what would be the point of all those bloody push ups?
Damn Hans Zimmer. How do you that magic you do?
I never thought I could learn so much from a man who does not exist
Lol I had no idea such masterpiece was being filmed just 4-5 km away from where I live! Wish I had been more aware 😭😭😭😭😭
Absolutely love this scene, for me rises is the best in the trilogy
*Goosebumps*
Everytime dude.
the music fits so well with this scene it gives me an eargasm
Thank you for uploading this was epic watching this part at the cinema!
Ascend to the sky and beyond by only doing so without the tether of fear.
"Pasta! Fish fish pasta! Pasta..."
The Ethannator LMAO
Sounds like there saying "This is Awesome, Awesome" to be honest
Best movie EVER!!!!!!!!!
I fucking love this scene, but i hate the fact that the one guy at 2:32 did a quick glance at the camera.
The spirit of a bat, when mixed with the spirit of a man, it's a powerful combination
I hope superman v batman doesnt make enough money so Nolan can come back with Bale and do another epic real Batman movie...this trilogy is badass
Bale is a footballer
batman vs superman hasnt even come out yet..how can you judge it
Inayat Ali I've always wondered if Gareth Bale and Christian Bale were related, both were born in Wales lol!
***** ( I think you get the point. I think Ben Affleck needs a chance to do his performance and then responses come later after seeing the film.
No.
Totally agree, Batman and Arrow are the epitome of will...
Aaronstark19 if you are talking about will you guys are forgetting one key person the masters of will powers them selves any green lantern. those guys are crazy enough to do anything it takes to win/save people with or with a ring.
If we were talking marvel I would say Spider-Man and captain America without powers
The Darkfrost Spider-Man.
Aaronstark19
Christian Bale = BATMAN... I can't see anyone else playing the role as batman apart from him.. So sad that he wouldn't be in the Superman v batman movie.. :(
Not old enough
Most Powerful Scene EVER
Haha I like how that guy is like "Oh supplies for your journey, that's wonderful" as if to say "yeah right as if you're even going to make it out of here" and then you see his face at the end and he's like "well shit..."
The Climb is all there is.
If that was me, when the bats came out of the wall I probably would've gotten so scared I would lose balanced and fall forward.
Same!! XDDDDDD
I can't define the awesomeness of this scene.. nolan is a genius... Those bats are the sign that batman is back... The dark knight rises...💪💪
A definite beautiful scene. Everything comes full circle here.
Once Bruce climbed out of the pit he must have thrown a rope down to allow the other inmates to escape.
well none of them looked malicious at all when they were chanting at bruce
