Borough Market, originally a wholesale Fruit and Veg market, my Great Grandfather and Grandfather had a pitch there at the end of 19th. beginning of 20th. C. importing then exotic fruit and veg.
When I had it the first time I thought it was like American mustard and lathered a table spoon into my ham sandwich....it was surprising to say the least.
@@shahyadesfandiary7234 I was always really surprised to see Americans spread a layer of mustard on their sandwiches. I thought they must have lead-lined mouths to deal with the spice! Now I know the truth!
I never thought about it, but yes, English mustard is much hotter than American mustard (which is similar to German mustard). The ready-made stuff in bottles is hot, but the powdered Colman's stuff that you make yourself is even hotter (not seen so much these days).
as a chicken keeper I can tell you the darker the yolk the healthier the eggs.....the birds that are allowed to free range and get lots of bugs in their diet produce the dark orange yolks....chickens fed nothing but chicken feed make the yellow yolks and are not high quality
Thanks for that! I once heard from an egg guy that if the shell is soft that's dehydration, whereas if it's hard the bird is well-watered... is that right?
Finally visited Borough Market last week, and tried most of your recommendations, plus enjoyed all the other stalls that provide samples of cheese etc. What an amazing place! Thanks for your tips. My wife had to roll me home.
I went to Borough Market today and found the doughnut stall! I had the vanilla and it was delicious but so was the raspberry jam variety. The jam is homemade and you can taste the fresh fruit. Thanks for the recommendation! Love you guys!
@@sie4431 I agree........ American mustard is more like 'mayo-mustard' (which i love!)....... whereas Colemans English mustard is super bitter and spicy! .....amazing on a ham or beef sarnie, or with crisps!!...... the mustard on this vid though was too pale, runny, and too bigger quantity in one portion to be straight colemans. ............... colemans english is a dark yellow colour and very thick n pasty. ;-)

I'm guessing each of the stalls at this market pay silly rents to the market owners. And there is zero parking around the market so getting all the food and equipment to the market must be real hassle. Then there is VAT, taxes etc etc. When we are out and about we all tend to compare eating out prices to what we can make it for at home, im guilty of that! But having said all that, yes, the food in this market is expensive. I live and work all around London and always take a flask and my own grub even on my days off when I go walkabout.
I don’t think it’s expensive if you are looking for quality street food. You can get most thing for under 10£ better than 5/7£ McDonald’s menu anyway. But if you want cheaper options and still pretty good quality you should visit Brick Lane. There are lots of food courts and stalls with amazing food!
Despite the prices and crowds (although it looked quiet when you guys were there...even Monmouth) Borough Market is one of my favourite places - always a good friendly vibe, and the sights & smells are amazing!
I am definitely jealous. If I could have done anything at all today, I would have considered ideal, I would be eating street food at the stalls at a public market in London. Coleman's yellow mustard is absolutely incredible, and listening to someone try to pronounce bagel with a cockney accent would be like attending a symphony.
HAHAHAHHA I felt so bad for you as you bit into that bagel- could see your eyes watering with the spicy mustard! Proper English mustard has a real kick to it!!! xx

Haven't been to Beigel Bake in years. In the 90's I used to work a night shift near by and we took turns to get salt beef bagels for our 3am "lunch break". So happy to see it still going. Best bagel's on the planet!

I live in London, and funnily enough have visited Borough Market many times (it has some bloody amazing pubs nearby too). One of the more memorable experiences there though was when my mate and I were visiting a cheese stall. A family were also there, and their daughter (about 8 I reckon) produced a bright pink projectile vomit which went over much of the cheese. My mate and I wandered on; I imagine the girl's parents were wishing the ground would open up.
You should visit Chester. It’s up north where things are always better and is close to Liverpool and Manchester! A city full of history and is so beautiful x
