If you, or anyone else, wants a good very cheap sightseeing bus tour I recommend Megabus’s one. They’re open top buses, with good commentary (only in English, so only wouldn’t recommend for those who want/need a foreign language commentary). 2 hours long. I’ve lived day-trip distance from London all my life, so been many times, but there were things in the commentary I didn’t know before. I only paid £2 (the lowest price including booking fee), booking a couple of days before. (I lost a small bit of the tour due to a road closure, but obviously no fault of Megabus, and at that price...) 3 choices of start location (you end at the same place you start at (it’s non stop)).

Strange as it may sound the strawberry jam goes directly on top of the scone and the clotted cream is then placed on top of the strawberry jam. After I retired I lived for an extended time in a village in Devon and a lady who had taught Prince Charles how to make Devon Clotted Cream instructed me on the proper way to prepare and eat it. She also made her own strawberry jam. Amazing.

Welcome back to my wonderful city! You must do ‘proper’ afternoon tea at one of the big hotels some time. The Ritz is the most famous one, but it’s very touristy and you feel a bit like cattle. Browns do a really good one, so do Claridges. It’s expensive, but unlimited. Don’t eat all day before you go, then make the most of it! One for next time you’re here perhaps.

Notting Hill was famous in its own right long before that soppy Richard Curtis movie came along! It was the heart of Caribbean culture in London since the 1950s, hence the carnival connection. And more recently, it was and probably still is home to a shop called the Music and Video Exchange, which in the pre-digital days was renowned as the place that would buy literally any piece of secondhand music from you - any piece of vinyl, cassette or video tape. As a result, you could find pretty much any music there. Most Londoners of a certain age will have whiled away a few weekend afternoons flicking through some of their thousands of crates of second hand records...

Living in England as I do I get a lot of friends and ex colleagues visiting who want to ‘do London’ with me guiding. This is a great idea 2 hits in one. High tea and bus top tour. I’m in for the next visitors. Thanks for the vid and the idea.

When I read "afternoon tea in London" I thought, oh ohh, the comments section will be inundated with lectures on tea etiquette from the Brits and I was right LOL. Great video guys.
