Byrna is a great alternative for a CCW, especially in California, since the state is currently attempting to ban concealed carry completely with SB 2. California is attempting to ban concealed carry in all public places, business, and anywhere there are gatherings of people, even if you have a valid CCW, you won't be able to carry anywhere. This essentially bans concealed carry in California. The Byrna is the next best option since it is not a firearm. I'm a former police officer, and I have used pepperball and impact rounds in my job, and they are very effective. I encourage everyone to own a Byrna, especially in states like California, where crime in out of control, and the state is unfair to law abiding citizens.

I know this response is late. But in all honesty man. There’s grey area with a lot of states and how they handle home defense situations. For instance I live in a state where they have home defense but if that person isn’t posing an immediate threat, is breaking and entering or isn’t brandishing a weapon and looking to put your life at risk that’s a problem if you take lethal action against that person. Now, if you seriously hurt or killed them you’re held criminally for that and get charges put on you, jail or prison time and life altering moments unfold after doesn’t matter if you felt justified its what prosecutors think and how they go about it. Im personally not taking that risk. I read up on my laws and how they handle home defense. Touch up on yours and be safe.

I am going to research and determine if this is a good choice for me. I am a senior citizen no longer able to defend myself with my hands. Nobody wants to deploy lethal force if less lethal can remove the danger.
I had the Byrna HD for years until last year when i had to use it in Chicago to defend myself from someone trying to steal my truck, that I was sleeping in... Im a homeless, U.S. Marine Veteran.. Anyway, i didn't even have to fire my Byrna to get them to run and I didn't pursue, because just the look of the Byrna was intimidating enough to scare the attacker away, but in a turn of bullshit events, because its Chicago, where I had no idea that Byrnas are not legal, I was arrested and my Byrna confiscated... I was released after 12 hours with no charges, but lost my Byrna.... Real smart Chicago, take my non lethal defense away and leave the only other self defense weapon I have at my disposal. No they have a first pierce technology, meaning your co2 cartridge wont be pierced until you fire the first shot. Some have noticed that very rarely that when firing the first shot in a new C02 cartridge when using pepper rounds, the round could break within the gun so you would get a whiff of pepper. So if you want to be 100% safe, load your mag with a kinetic round on the top.
@@lasthope9295 But what if let's say, you load up 2 Clips and go target practice with it (I know they say that the CO2 Cartriges are good for 35 shots/5 reloads of 7rd clip, right?) and then after the 2 mag target practice you reload a clip put it in there and go on about your daily business with the Byrna on you. Pepper spray, tasers, and pepperball guns (like the Byrna) exist for a reason. 9 times out of 10, lethal force is not necessary. For those many instances, stuff like this is better than pulling out your pink camo 9mm and pretending like you're a tough guy lol. That will send you to jail in many states. Byrna is good for dealing with unarmed attackers, attacking dogs, punk teens that are physically intimidating/harassing people, and drunks causing trouble in bar parking lots.
